This is one of the most in-depth and well written books on the entire sales process I have ever read. Brian Tracy knows what he is talking about.
The chapters cover all aspects of sales,
1). The Psychology Of Selling
2). The Development Of Personal Power
3). Personal Strategic Planning For the Sales Professional
4). The Heart Of The Sale
5). The Profession Of Selling
6). Motivating People To Buy
7). Influencing The Buying Decision
8). Prospecting: Filling Your Sales Pipeline
9). How To Make Powerful Presentations
10). Closing The Sale: The Endgame Of Selling
If you read and understand this book and then use what Brian is teaching you, you will have a much better chance at being successful in the sales world.
two other sales book I highly recommend you also read are Zig Ziglar's Secrets of Closing the Sale and How to Master the Art of Selling

If you are going to buy one book on sales, this ought to be it. Tracy manages to pack in an amazing amount of material with first rate practical suggestions and excellent, clear writing. Unlike many sales and marketing books, there is almost no self-serving fluff in here, and he covers all the bases.
Excellent companion piece to "The Psychology of Selling"

For my personal preferences, there are two acknowledged masters of sales. The first is Zig Ziglar, the second is Brian Tracy. While I find great value in the works of Jeffrey Gitomer, Frank Rumbauskas, Tim Connor and others, all roads eventually lead back to Zig and Brian (as well as Napoleon Hill...see below).
Tracy's "The Psychology of Selling" is one of the few books I honestly classify as "essential," and I do so without reservation. Like Ziglar, Tracy wants salespeople to see the craft of selling as a series of relationships, not drive-bys. You have to learn how to sell. The biggest challenge is "un-learning" the garbage you've been fed by snake oil peddlers.
The title "Advanced Selling Strategies" is important, because "strategy" is what's often lacking. You have to do your homework. You have to build a relationship. You have to create a sense of buying urgency. You have to know when it is time to close the sale, and when that time comes, you have to know how to do it.
And you have to do this uniquely for EVERY client you sign up. Forget the "Sales Scripts That Close EVERY Sale" books. They're garbage. If you're dealing with a prospect who's not bright enough to spot a script a mile away, that prospect should not become one of your clients.
That said, here are the chapters in "Advanced Selling Strategies."

8). Prospecting: Filling Your Sales Pipeline
9). How To Make Powerful Presentations
10). Closing The Sale: The Endgame Of Selling
Those are the "bones" of the book, and trust me...there's plenty of meat on each of them.
If you're serious about sales...serious about being the best, serious about challenging yourself and being an achiever instead of someone who makes excuses for limited achievement...I recommend the following:
1). "The Psychology of Selling" by Brian Tract
2). "Advanced Selling Strategies" by Brian Tracy
3). "Secrets of Closing The Sale" (2003 Updated Edition) by Zig Ziglar
4). "Over The Top: Moving From Survival To Stability, From Stability To Success, From Success To Significance" by Zig Ziglar
5). "The Law Of Success In Sixteen Lessons Complete" by Napoleon Hill
Happy selling!

Since I enjoy acting and actors, I was given this book out of my grandfathers vast collection of books. I knew Katharine Hepburn was a popular actress, and Spencer Tracy stared with her in a few films. I had seen 'The Aviator' film about Howard Hughes, from Martin Scorsese. Cate Blanchett is incredible in her role as Katharine Hepburn. I'm so thrilled she won the Academy Award for her portrayal of someone who really didn't thankfully act like a star. She was just an ordinary person, and that is a great aspect of these fine actors. While this book only touches a little on that aspect of Katharine's life with Howard Hughes, it is the witty comments from Spencer Tracy and really a great friendship and love between this special pair of actors that is examined and admired here. Before reading 'Tracy and Hepburn' I read 'Audrey: Her Real Story', by Alexander Walker. The two Hepburn's are quite different and really don't have anything really in common. That isn't a bad thing at all. Except for the same last names, and acting in the Golden Age of Hollywood. 'Tracy and Hepburn' is a rare book. It is luckily authored by Garson Kanin, who has worked with and been wonderful friends with the acting duo, and neighbour to Katharine Hepburn for many years. Katharine certainly seems like an admireable woman and understandable risk taker. She, like her family isn't really content to just do nothing. She makes things happen. She also likes to skateboard and has even attempted surfing. Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn loved to have a meal with friends at home and chat. 'Tracy and Hepburn' shows us a simplier life in those days. I didn't live through the Golden Age of Hollywood with all of these seemingly wonderfully talented people, but we should all aspire to be like them. I really haven't seen many Katharine Hepburn or Spencer Tracy films. I've seen most of the great 'Guess Who's Coming To Dinner', with the two of them. I've seen 'Boy's Town' with Spencer Tracy. I've seen Katharine in 'The Philadelphia Story', and 'Little Women'. That's really all I've seen of these two great actors. I am a fan of Humprey Bogart and Lauren Bacall and both love Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn, so I was very glad to read about 'The African Queen'. Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy keep it real. There isn't anything fake about them. I understand their appeal to others in the movie business, and those out of it. So I'm now a fan. I remembering prefering 'High Society' with Grace Kelly over 'The Philadelphia Story', but I'm certain to enjoy both films equally now. I'm not sure if I'd read another book on Katharine Hepburn or Spencer Tracy, but I'll never say never to it. I'm really not sure what would be the best aside from this book. I'm sure there are many that expand from this book, because Katharine is still alive at the end of this book. If there are any favorite books Katharine Hepburn fans enjoy please contact me and let me know. I'm very interested. I'm not sure if there is any truth about Katharine not enjoying the lack of privacy about her life in this book, but I'm sure nothing hurtful was meant by Garson Kanin writing it. He has captured these two real-life characters beautifully. Katharine also hated doing interviews but loved to travel and make plans. Keeping her life in order, and staying fit and healthy. She also loved to give gifts, but her birthday seems unknown. My Mum was born on the 12th May like Katharine so there's something special I can take from reading about Katharine Hepburn. I'm glad I share both Katharine Hepburn's and Spencer Tracy's love for acting. These two special people from the Golden Age of Hollywood are irreplaceable, but how fortunate and enjoyable for all of us that we can still watch them shine on screen. I love the immortality of cinema. Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy really must be the best in the business. I'm so glad I've shared the earth with some extraordinary people. Thank you both for such happy productive lives and thank you Garson for recounting it for others to enjoy.
Yummy, but...

I enjoy this book immensely, but I wish Mr. Kanin hadn't constantly been upstaging himself throughout. One review I read of this book said (aptly, I thought) that the title of the book should have been called We Three. I'm sure that he and his wife Ruth Gordon were good friends of Tracy and Hepburn's; I'm also sure that Tracy and Hepburn had other friends they were close to as well. I do know that the invasion of privacy made Katherine Hepburn furious when this book came out - she refused to speak to Mr. Kanin for several years as a result. I don't know - the stories are good, but it puts a bad taste in my mouth all the same.

This is a delightful book filled with anecdotes about Kanin, his wife Ruth Gordon, and their relationship with Tracy and Hepburn. But, of course, no mention is made of the fact that Spencer and Katherine were having an affair and no hint of the "A" word (adultery). This is a cleaned up version of reality, but nonetheless ceaselessly entertaining. Tracy, however, comes off as he usually does: melancholy, dark, and troubled. Only Kanin's affection for him redeems Tracy in the reader's eyes. The parts about Hepburn are the real treat here; she must have been a riot to have as a friend.

And I've probably read it 12 times. Spencer Tracy's abrupt nature is described in great detail, but with real affection by Garson Kanin. By the end of the book, we understand why Bonaventure was more than just Tracy's middle name. Hepburn's unwavering love and willingness to put Spen-SAH first often seems hard to reconcile with her solid will and staunch intellect. Through Garson Kanin's eyes, we see why the couple's differences made for a fascinating life together, on and off screen. No slouch in the talent department himself, Kanin's asides on his and Ruth Gordon's antics with the formidable Tracy and Hepburn could make for an exquisite book, in and of themselves.

Garson does a great job showing off Tracy and Hepburn in this delightful book. You get to take a look inside Kate's life from a good friend of hers. Garson passed away in March of this year and he left many wonderful things behind. This book just being one. He also wrote several of the screenplays that Tracy and Hepburn stared in. This book is a must for all.

How dumb are the vast majority of us all these days? Rhtorical question, but you know the answer, lets not say it out loud.
With this CD in the car, I GIVE YOU MY PERSONAL GUARENTEE (sp? apologies) THAT EVERYONE CAN AND WILL LEARN FROM THIS CD AND, AT THE VERY LEAST, *CONTIMPLATE* PURSUING GREATNESS, EVEN IF IT ONLY LASTS UNTIL THE END OF THE RIDE IN THE CAR.
For very fortunate others, the impact will last a lot longer.
It is truly a GREAT thinking person's answer to the subject of what should I read tonight - or what should I ponder, where and what should my mind fixate and focus upon.
If I was stuck on a dessert island and I had to drive my car around in circles, this is the CD I'd want in the car.
Kids should hear this CD in an environment where they can't escape and tune out. Children, above all, should at least once in their lives get a taste of what is great and why it has been called as such.
This is THE quintessential, absorbing, though-provoking CD on the subject of self and success and, frankly, the way of the world and the meaning of our pursuits through-out life.
A serious must have. The book is good too, but I love the audio version. For more information on the content, see the book and many better reviews on it than I could write myself.
EXCELLENT. JUST EXCELLENT.

This is the first Butler-Bowden book I bought (audio cd), and I bought it on a lark. I appreciated it more than many of the more expensive "success" audio books I bought. It has wonderful breadth, and I've since bought many of the books it covered as well as the print form of the audio CDS (so I can highlight sections!).
Kind of gimmicky, I'll admit, but I found it quite useful! I've since listened to / read several of the books that are covered, and found that I've gotten as much from this overview than I did from the full material. Mostly.
I'd recommend this, as well as some of the other 50 X series by this author.
That being said, I'd say that I found only 35 or so of the 50 books interesting to me personally.

Engrossing, charming, nostalgic, a page turner, well paced, detailed, and a cliff hanger. What more can be said? From a genre point of view, this is a great combo of sleuths -- so much in any series, depends upon the empathy between the two detective types and the reader. Gossip about the rich and famous of another era fascinates me and the economy of the narrative almost suggests the motion picture world and its techniques. It's a fact that MGM actually held a World Premiere in West Orange, New Jersey, but it was a brilliant idea to set a mystery novel against all that pandemonium. This is very good stuff and it has everything that would make it into one heck of a movie. The newspapers reported a screen version was once in the works and that a script had been completed. I wonder what happened? This would be a terrific American installment to the PBS series MYSTERY!

This is a thoroughly entertaining and solid mystery novel which not only gives the reader a vivid, sometimes humorous, picture of life in a small town during 1940 but also describes the lengths old-time Hollywood studios went to promote their movies. The premise is fascinating. The characters are well-drawn, very human, believable and engaging.

My mom sent me this book as a gift (thanks mom!) and it was just what I was looking for....something to help guide me through my pregnancy without "telling" me what I should be doing or feeling. It helps me to figure out my own feelings about what is going on with my body. The suggestions and exercises make your transition into motherhood more real and make you more aware of the changes that will come about. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for all of their options when it comes to fertility and pregnancy and finding their own way through this magnificent and amazing time!

I was a little dubious about this audio-only version of Tea at Five, having seen the play live. However, it's very well adapted to audio. There's just enough narration to make up for the basic missing visuals, and a few other bits are just left out (i.e., no awkward pauses where something visual is happening).
Since it's adapted so well, this version retains the charm of the live show, which is considerable. Mulgrew is just enchanting in the role, and she's working with great material.

Consciously Female is a book that is as interesting as its title. I am not a doctor, nor do I have any medical background, yet I was totally able to identify with most of the information (if not all) that Dr. Gaudet mentions in the book. It is a great book and an excellent read.
Dr. Gaudet is right. Women health issues have been marginalized in social and professional systems. For example, a woman suffering from PMS is not considered a reason good enough for her boss to give her the day off. She's expected to carry on being productive, regardless of the hormonal, physical and emotional turmoil stirring inside her.
A pregnant woman is expected to tolerate morning sickness, but not yet educated about the reason why it happens, or how to embrace it.
More interesting issues Dr. Gaudet raises are inside this valuable book. I highly recommend it to anyone who believes they should listen more to what their bodies tell them, and schedule their actions accordingly.

Not sure what the other reviewer is referring to about support -- this book is about stuff you can do on your own to be healthier. You don't need anything (or anyone) else! I loved the "tools," which are easy ways to pay attention to your needs. It's all about paying attention. Learning to think about myself this way helped me to quit taking my body for granted. I think this should be required reading to anyone starting a weight loss program!

I worked at University Hospital Labor and Delivery in San Antonio for the first eight years of my nursing career. Every year 7-8 new doctors would begin their residency. Most were competent or became so over their tenure but a handful were truly fabulous, so much so that I remember them to this day (I've been a nurse 17 years now). I would have chosen any one of them to be my personal OB/Gyn had they been in private practice. One of those physicians was Tracy Gaudet. I was so pleased when I heard she had joined with Dr. Weil to form an integrative medicine practice in Arizona after her residency. I finally got this book and I'm not surprised at how good it is. The book reflects the kind of physician she was then and the even better physician she is now. She is more than just a doctor, she is a healer.

This is a film made by liberals for liberals who want to feel patriotic about fighting the last war. It should be noted that, at that time, most liberals were as squeamish about confronting soviet aggression as they are about confronting the Jihadists today. Ironically the actors, writer and director who made this film are uniformly liberal left and opposed to our Iraq policies, so it's hard to buy them as tough guys.
There is also no mention of the fact that Reagan was the one who approved those ever-increasing budgets.
Kudos should go to Congressman Charlie Wilson, one of a vanished breed of Democrat who took freedom and the need to protect it seriously enough to actually fight for it. The only one left today seems to be Joe Liebermann.

i have been reading reviews about"Charlie Wilson's Wars"since it first came out in America and then in Europe..All of them were mostly positive. As I live in Spain,I knew it would take a long time before I could see it here ,and then it would be dubbed in spanish. On top Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks beeing among my favourite actors plus of course that we have also Philip Seymour Hoffman and Mike Nichols as dirctor(Imagine that I have seen him with Helen May in Detroit around 1960),I preordered it as soon as it was available in DVD.Well,I certainly was not disappointed. All the way through it is fun, witty, very believable. The action develops like a slow menacing tidal wave(for the russians)On top you discover the real Charlie Wilson as an adorable scoundrel on the surface, but deep down a serious dedicated and profoundly honnest man.You have no idea how much and often. I have recommended it.

"Charlie Wilson's War" is a political comedy about Texas Congressman Charlie Wilson (played wonderfully by Tom Hanks). In the 1980s he developed a scheme to funnel money and weapons to Afghanistan rebels to help fight the invading Soviet Union. Mr. Wilson is the man who knows how to get things done, by knowing the right men, and knowing how to play the political system. Helping him with the weapons is eccentric CIA agent Gust Avrakotos (played hilariously by Philip Seymour Hoffman), with Joanna Herring (Julia Roberts) providing political influence in the Middle East to get Charlie in the area he needs to see in Afghanistan.
As for the movie, it is great fun, funny and warm with sympathetic characters at its center. (One suspects that the characters may have been slightly sanitized for dramatic purposes.) Hanks is brilliant as womanizer and hard partying Wilson. Despite his flaws, Wilson is highly intelligent and committed to the cause. Hoffman's Avrakotos is great too, a smart guy who is burned out by the bureaucratic system. And of course Roberts turns in an elegant performance. The cast is excellent all the way around.
If there is a problem, it is not one the film makers did, it is one of history. Everyone knows that the weapons and money the U.S. gave the rebels were eventually used against American forces in the War on Terror. I in no way hold Mr. Wilson responsible; no one could have predicted what would happen in the 1980s. But it still puts a damper on the humor of the film.

Of course, I love just about anything that Philip Seymore Hoffman is in. But it's the entire cast, especially Tom Hanks as Charlie that makes this flik shine. Excellent movie.
