That basically sums it up for the approach taken by Kostenberger, et. al., in this book. Most interesting is the survey across secular literature regarding the NT hapax /authentew/ (pardon the transliteration). The arguments and conclusions are not based on emotional appeal but rather on cold, hard examination of the text of the original. Several chapters by several authors examine different aspects of a complete interpretation of this troubling yet frequently written about text. No matter what you think about the issue of women in the leadership of the church, Kostenberger et. al. demand your attention -- and you'll be glad you gave it. This book helps immensely in seperating the wheat from the chaff when examining this particular issue.

The editors of this book did an outstanding job of compiling authors of the highest caliber and those who would take the exegetical task seriously. This book offers the serious reader an opportunity to see the gold availabe in 1 Timothy 2. If anyone is willing to push aside their emotions and ready to see what scripture has to say regarding women's role in the church, this book will give you an historic, but exciting new look at 1 Timothy 2.

"By Their Fruit You Shall Know Them." This book is currently OUT OF PRINT. That should tell you something! Instead of wasting your time trying to find a copy of this outdated and biased book, take a look at the bestselling title called "Why Not Women?: A Fresh Look at Scripture on Women in Missions, Ministry and Leadership" by Loren Cunningham to find the truth about the difficult scriptures regarding women.

Rarely does a book earn the status of the definitive work on any subject as quickly as "Women in the Church." Heralded by scholars and theologians like D.A. Carson, Scott Hafemann, Peter T. O'Brien and John Piper. The design of this book is to walk a reader through all the various hermeneutical and exegetical stages in interpreting any text of Scripture. The reader is expertly guided through stages like historical research, genre analysis, word study, syntactical analysis, etc. . . The real challenged posed by this book is not ideological but exegetical. You may not like the conclusions of the contributors, but their conclusions result from careful, detailed, and sound exegesis. This book is the standard exegetical work on 1 Timothy 2:9-15 and has yet to meet any serious rival. In fact, because of its enduring contribution a revised second edition is slated for publication.

As a student utilizing this text for class, I found it extremely insightful, as well as challenging in content. The book is subdivided in to various topib headings related to corporate finance, everything from debt and equity offerings to derivative risk management. After a chapter introduction outlining and reviewing pertinent academic information, there are several case studies on real companies. The book closes with three case studies which incorporate multiple topics highlighted in the book.

This is definitely the book of classic cases in Finance. Using Harvard case method, it covers a wide range of fundamental issues faced by today's finance executive or CFO. A must for MBA second course in Finance or advanced undergraduate. However, this textbook is lacking in a few pedagogical aspects. Firstly, in every section (key topic), there is no comprehensive chapter of important theories and key concepts (e.g. formulas) for students to brush up before embarking on the cases. Moreover, there are no check figures or guidelines (at the back) on how to tackle the problems. The format of the pages are rather dry and uninviting plus there are so many typo erroes in the financial statements. More importantly in this 1997 edition, the authors have decided to leave out the Carrefour case, which was an excellent example of cash flow management. Lots of important lessons missed out, especially from a multinational which has been very successful in today's global retail hypermarket industry. Our professor had to make photocopies from an earlier edition for our MBA. May be the authors can put back this case in future editions.....

We used this case book in our MBA course for corporate finance. The real cases are exciting. The topics are very broad and ranging from cash budgeting to financial risk management. Most of the cases are supported with good background material like charts and income statements. The book is excellent for class discussions, but not for the ambituous reader who wants to teach himself corporate finance. There are simply no right or wrong answers why there's no solution provided. It's a great book to work with, but deadly boring if you want to read it page by page.

This trade paperback reprints the recent comic book mini-series Captain Carrot and the Final Ark. Before the mini-series, the book features a few pages of "Whatever Happened to Captain Carrot?", which appeared in two issues of Teen Titans comics. This was an attempt to parody the "grim and gritty" trend in comics and didn't really work for me, especially the mischaracterization of Alley-Kat-Abra. After this brief prologue, we get the actual mini-series. This is more like a traditional Captain Carrot comic book, although it still parodies recent comic book trends like the government banning super-heroes and "Crisises". It also manages to fix some of the wrong-headed things from the prologue. I enjoyed this series quite a bit. The mini-series was only three issues long, so this book also reprints some classic Captain Carrot comics; specifically the group's origin and their team-up with the JLA (Just'a Lotta Animals).

I found this text to be very helpful in designing interesting and meaningful ways for students to enjoy content area reading and developing ways to help them gain better comprehension of the read material. It was organized in an easy to understand format but the authors consistent use of graphic organizers throughout the text did not seem to necessarily help in my understanding of the chapters. I did like, however, many of the techniques they mentioned, especially for vocabulary and writing. The reading roulette and different word puzzles and anticipation guides mentioned are good ideas that are easily incorporated into any lesson in any content area. This text, at the very least, provided a good basis for any teacher to design interesting activities to make reading in the content areas a little less intimidating and a lot more interesting.

I very much liked the book Escapade by Evelyn Scott. Although it does get rather dull at some points because it has no plot line, I was very enthrawled with the way the main character thinks. Evelyn Scott gives an accurate description of how the mind functions in a stream of conciousness.

Scott's fictional account of her time is Brazil is a fascinating precursor to the Existentialist fiction of Sartre, Camus, and Walker Percy. A brutally Freudian portrayl, 'Escapade' is not the fun-filled read the title may lead many readers to believe it to be, but it is an honest and compelling account of a rough period in the life of a courageous and daring woman.

Encounters with the paranormal or supernatural are self-validating for those who experience them, but raise many questions for those of us who hear about them secondhand. This book is no exception.

First of all, in most of these encounters, the being identified as "Jesus" does not explicitly claim to be Jesus. Rather, the entity is assumed to be Jesus on the basis of his physical appearance, on the basis of statements which imply that he is Jesus or call to mind the words of Jesus, or - most often - because of the profound sense of love, peace, and acceptance which the being bestows.

"Jesus" appears in many forms, or even without a form: sometimes his presence is merely felt and not seen; sometimes a voice is heard, but nothing is seen; sometimes a voice emerges from a brilliant light; sometimes a vague human shape is seen in the midst of a brilliant light; and sometimes Jesus appears as an apparently flesh-and-blood human being.

Skeptics will note that a large percentage of these encounters occur in dreams, raising the possibility of a subjective origin. Nonetheless, a number of the experiences do occur in ordinary reality, and their life-changing nature suggest that they are more than momentary psychological abberations.

Traditional Christians, while open to the reality of the supernatural, may suspect that some of these encounters with "Jesus" are in fact experiences of angelic or even demonic entities. We encounter multiple Jesuses, some of which are bizarre or disturbing, e.g., a Jesus accompanied by a flying saucer; a Jesus who claims to be identical to the Buddha; a Jesus who morphs into an East Indian sage; a Jesus who counsels a woman to divorce her husband; and - strangest of all - a bald-headed, beardless Jesus, wearing a pin-striped business suit as he speaks to a crowd in a circus tent.

So this is indeed a Jesus with New Age overtones, and that fact will make him more - or less - attractive depending on the religious beliefs of the reader. For me, the book has value as a chronicle of the paranormal, not necessarily as a conveyor of messages from the real Jesus.

This book is an interesting and thoughtful compilation of modern day Jesus encounters. I found it to be inspirational.

This book is a classic and I found it to be very informative. A significant portion of the data is obsolete and therefore should be taken in that perspective. If you work in this field you will find this book of worth. It also offers a perspective into the pioneering attitude of CSIs and latent print examiners from 'back in the day'. If you have read the FBI science of fingerprints and survived, you will love this textbook. Untill 2005 this was required reading for the IAIs Crime Scene Analyst certification exam. I assume they pulled it in favor of more up to date material.

This book is an awesome text for anyone who conducts crime scene investigation. The reason for the 3 star rating is the sad truth that this book is simply out-dated. Originally written in 1978 it was ahead of its time. Unfortunately it has not kept up with the advances in technology. The book is full of references to film and and cameras that are no longer available as well as suppliers that no longer exist. The book is written from a practical use viewpoint that is rare under any circumstances. I read this book as a requirement for the International Association for Identification Crime Scene Analyst certification exam and enjoyed it very much. Anyone who investigates crime scenes or conducts processing or comparisons will find this book of value. The book is comprehensive in that it discusses comparison, lifting prints, taking inked prints, fingerprint kits and equipment, chemical processes and case studies. The IAI has phased this book from its required list due in part, most likely to the fact that there is simply too much information that is out of date. Some things are still right on though. Fingerprints are unique and persistent! If you are interested in the science of fingerprints this one should be in your library.

As a French teacher, I have used this series for a few years. The exercises provided in this workbook are generally good review exercises to help students practice and gain proficiency. However, I tend to pick and choose very carefully because some of the activities are not level-appropriate or age-appropriate - too dorky for high school kids. In all a generally good workbook.

Great book for beginners on the subject... even for experts ! Even if this book was edited in 1997, it is a good apoptotic reference ! You like cell death subject ? You'll like this book. Based on pharmacology, you will take a look around lots of areas.. heart, GI tract, genetics, brain, AIDS and signalling pathways... You will like this book.

As a former TESOL tutor I would recommend this book as the basis of teaching English idioms having to do with gestures. The book comes complete with exercises, discussion topics and final review. The book is organized very well into units pertaining to gestures of different body parts and would be appropriate for advanced students of English. Illustrations of the gestures in simple line drawings are included. This book was not very useful for my initial purpose which was as a reference regarding Body Language; however, for the purpose for which it was intended I would give it a "Thumbs Up".
