This is a book full of time tested techniques for dealing with adversity.

If he had written the book today, I think that he would have focused more on the development of resilience. That concept was in its infancy when he was writing, but in fact many of the practical methods in the book form basic biulding blocks of this important personal attribute.

Not just a book for people in trouble: it wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark!

Great Book!

Great book! Very inspiring! If you use the book's bottom line, to never give up, and repeat it to yourself so you eventually believe it, the book will work miracles! It is a must read!

"Tough Times Never Last, But Tough People Do!" and the "Be Happy Attitudes" are the best of Robert Schuller. I give out the Tough Times book to friends in tough times. It was a real help to me, and the folks I talk to find it helpful. Easy to read, easy to remember, and easy to apply. This book has the 'how tos' that are needed in the real world -- not high sounding theory.

beautiful, angry, and painful

This is an awesome collection of poetry. If you've had enough of cheesy, happy-ending love poems, this book is for you. Some of these poems are so raw they are painful. The poems in this book span the emotions of anger, jealousy, longing, bitterness, desire, and a little bit of love and forgiveness. Another thing I love about this book is that the poems are taken from a wide variety of poets of many different nationalities. I found many of the poems unique, new, and fresh to my eyes (and heart). If you've been searching for a way to express the raw feelings of a broken heart or intense longing, check out this book!

A necessary book for anyone who's ever been heartbroken.

This book is the ultimate collection of poems for those who have either been heartbroken or are bitter _because_ they've never had the chance.

The poetry is all something to which many can relate, which adds to the whole experience of reading it since on almost every other page, you find something you at one point felt and didn't know how to express.

Here, a little taste for everyone to adore and egg on to get a book that should be manatory for living, the editor includes a poem called "After Years of Listening, a Stone Comes To Life" by James Tipton, and in there, there is the best line I think I have ever heard in my entire life: "I will no longer apologize for loving you."

That line right there is grounds to buy this book, and at the price it is offered on here, it makes me compelled to return my copy and buy it from here.

:)

This book is perfect for captivating all the foolishness and heartache associated with falling in and out of love. With poetry and quotes by Noel Coward, Pablo Neruda, Robert Frost, and other well known writers, this book is a must have. Perfect Valentines gift for anyone between the ages of 18-35 who are dealing with a heartbreak or appreciate dark humor. ...

got in touch with my ex-girlfriend and she derisively threw this little gem at me: "trying to pass yourself off as an english poet, are you?" i replied "no!" because i wasn't, even though it looked like i was.
you see, dear reader, she had done a search on google for my name a while back (she still cares!) and this poetry book anthology came up, with one of my very old poems under a very old title (the poem is actually called "layla's poem" now). i never thought i had ever gotten anything published. hell, i haven't even written poetry in years (after i figured out that nobody really gave a flying rats backside about my rants, entertaining as they were)!

be that as it may, it's a good poem, in my stable of good to mediocre poems, so i give michelle lovric lots of credit for knowing how to pick em. at least she didn't put one of my stinkers in there. props michelle!

just one more thing: the book apparently lists me as an english poet, but i'm not an english poet. i am a floridian poet who once lived in london and got kicked out for working as an illegal alien. in the grand scheme of things, there's not alot of difference, i suppose.

now, i'm off to try and get a complimentary copy of this book (still can't afford to buy poetry) so i can impress my friends, chicks, and influence other people! yay dale carnegie! yay poetry!

Wonderfully neurotic!

Finally a collection of love poems for those of us not gifted (or plagued) with perfect love lives. This book does not paint love in a bad light altogether. It is a realistic and humorous view of love from the pens of those not afflicted with soppily sweet and cloying views of love. Huzzah!

MAID IN MANHATTAN ***

This is a relatively pleasant, though eminently forgettable, once-upon- a-time romantic comedy. Not even its excellent supporting cast can make this tepid movie better than it should be. Ralph Fiennes, with his sometimes British, sometimes American accent, and Jennifer Lopez, with her beauty marred the minute she opens her mouth, are the would be mis-matched lovers.

Fiennes plays Chris Marshall, a wealthy, to the manor born, silver spoon, political candidate. Lopez plays Marissa Ventura, a working class woman and single parent with an adorable, precocious, ten year old son named Ty (Tyler Garcia Posey). Marissa works as a maid in the posh hotel in which Marshall is a guest. When her son accompanies her to work one day, he runs into Chris Marshall and recognizes him. They start up a conversation and before you know it they are going to go off for a walk together, only Ty has to ask his mom. They go to the suite in which she is cleaning, only thing is that she has tried one of the haute couture outfits belonging to a wealthy businesswoman named Caroline who is staying in the suite.

Naturally, Marissa looks gorgeous in this outfit and is wearing it when Ty and Chris enter the suite. Chris is smitten, and all three go for a walk in the park. Chris does not know, and Marissa does not disclose, that she is one of the maids in the hotel. Don't ask. Don't tell.

When Chris, thinking that his dream woman's name is Caroline, forwards an invitation for lunch to her ostensible suite, the real Caroline (Natasha Richardson) responds. Let the games begin! Marissa spends quite a bit if time avoiding running into Chris in her work clothes. When she finally runs into him in the street, Chris instructs his aide to find her and invite her to a glittering soiree. She gets the invitation via the hotel butler (Bob Hoskins), along with some advice, and decides to go for the gold. With her fellow employees at the hotel acting as collective fairy godmothers, she gets the proverbial ball gown, diamonds, makeover, and emerges a princess, making a dramatic entrance at the ball, further entrancing Chris. When she runs off before the ball is over, he pursues her, and what then follows is a night to remember.

Of course, Natasha, who is also at the ball, sees Marissa and Chris together and realizes that she looks familiar. Consumed by the green eyed monster, she contacts the hotel authorities when the morning after the ball she sees Marissa, exiting the suite occupied by Chris and still wearing the diamond necklace she wore at the ball. A review of security tapes leads to her identification of Marissa and a host of other things. Chris is now faced with a choice, as is Marissa.

The film is pretty formulaic in that it is filmed as a fairy tale. Of course it has the proverbial happy ending. The film is saved by the very funny performance of Natasha Richardson and her pre-menopausal, obnoxious friend played with relish and delicious abandon by Amy Sedaris. Stanley Tucci is excellent as Jerry, Chris Marshall's campaign manager. Bob Hoskins is very good as the prim and proper hotel butler, though the film strikes a false note towards the end when he gives Marissa a final speech that is ridiculous. Tyler Garcia Posey is a totally adorable child actor who gives a very natural and engaging performance.

Ralph Fiennes gives a decent performance but has difficulty maintaining an American accent. Jennifer Lopez gives a better performance than she usually does but that is not saying a lot. It is unfortunate that to date she has been unable to replicate the level of performance that she gave in "Selena", the film that propelled her into stardom. She is, however, totally drop dead gorgeous when she is all gussied up, looking every inch the princess.

Still, if one's expectations are not too high, one should find this to be a mildly entertaining, romantic comedy. Rent it rather than buy it.

FOOLS RUSH IN ****

This is a delightful romantic comedy. Matthew Perry is a charming, self-effacing leading man. Salma Hayek is a most fetching and winsome leading lady. Strong performances by the supporting cast help make this a most enjoyable movie.

Alex Whitman (Matthew Perry) lives in New York and has a high powered job as a field agent for a builder that specializes in the construction of night clubs. He is sent to Las Vegas to supervise new construction. While there, he meets a fiery, latin beaty, Isabel Fuentes (Salma Hayek), with whom he has a very memorable one night stand. This is totally out of character for both of them. In fact, she is so embarrassed by what happened, that she sneaks out of his house first thing in the morning. Before he even knows it, she is gone, never to be heard from again, until she shows up on his door step three months later to announce that she is pregnant with his baby.

Alex tells her that he supports her right to choose. Isabel chooses to have the baby. She asks nothing from him other than he meet her family, so that it is not such a shock when she announces that she is pregnant. He agrees to do so. He meets her traditional, Mexican-American family and is taken by their warmth, a quality that is sorely lacking in his family. He rarely sees his own family, except for the obligatory holidays, while Isabel meets hers once a week for dinner.

Alex and Isabel fall in love and have a quickie marriage ceremony performed in Las Vegas. Naturally, as they are now husband and wife. they move in together. Then reality sets in. They contend with cultural difference, with pain in the you know what in-laws, and with the every day adjustments necessary, when living with someone one does not, as yet, know. Then, the trust that had developed is violated, and they each go their own separate ways.

What happens with the baby? Does the marriage survive? Watch the movie and find out. The experience will be an enjoyable one.

Review Date: 2006-02-21
In a stunning gift book format, one of America's best-loved authors offers a glimpse into a deep love of her Savior. Anne Graham Lotz has filled her work with original poetry, stories, and breathtaking insight into the life of Christ. To those in need of encouragement, this book offers a concise message of hope.

The rich blue color of the cover is carried through the pages of the book with photographs and drawings of Celtic crosses. Every page is a work of art, accompanied by the unique writing that sets Lotz above the rest. The price of the book also includes a CD in the back, which allows readers to listen to the author's voice, as well as enjoy Fernando Ortega's inspiring song, Give Me Jesus.

What I like about this book is that it's also useful for people involved in any type of ministry. The quotes, Scriptures, and prose all tie into the theme of loving Jesus, and those who need a fresh dose of inspiration will find much to glean from this work. Group leaders could allow their classes to listen to the CD as a springboard for discussion.

Though this small gift version doesn't offer as much depth as Anne's longer Just Give Me Jesus, this format is immensely readable and useful for gift giving. Drinking deep from the well of Scripture, this best-selling book is sure to captivate readers of all ages. - Heather Ivester, Christian Book Previews.com

I discovered an earlier edition of this truly great book in my local book shop and have since walked most of the walks in both the earlier and this current edition. It has to be the bible for anyone wanting to experience the joys the State of Victoria in Australia has to offer. The track notes are concise, yet easy to follow and are accompanied by useful maps for each walk. The publishers would be advised to re-think their layout designs as the book has a decidedly old fashion feel about it, BUT this does not detract from the usefulness of the book. WELL DONE MR THOMAS !

Review Date: 2000-12-12
I received this book as a gift, and after seeing how special it is, I decided to buy a few to give as gifts as well. It allows you to personalize the gift by writing specific things about the gift receiver in the book, like "This is how you have made a difference in my life, "You bring happiness to others by, " and "Here are some of the wonderfully unique things I appreciate about you," just to mention a few. The illustrations are colorful and cheerful, and the quotes are very meaningful. It's definitely a feminine book, so I think it would go over better with the women. The friend that gave it to me also wrote other things in the book that went along with a picture or a quote, and that made it even more special. When I received "I Celebrate You!" it was so meaningul that it brought tears to my eyes. This book is a perfect small gift for that special friend in your life!
