A great lesson! I bought this book to refresh my memory of screenplay style as I begin to prepare writing my own. Tarantino is known for his dialogue between characters and that is why I purchased this. It was a good read and did not disappoint. I took away from it several lessons on screenplay style.

Do not be swayed by the Tarantino haters out there. If you want to learn style he is one of the best today. There are many that throw around the terms "boycott", "overrated", etc. I am still fascinated by the number of people that go out of their way to drag down Tarantino's work yet they still see his movies. You would think by now that they would have learned to just not watch them. In reality these people are just jealous of the success he has had. Tarantino very often is referencing other movies that he watched while growing up. He is usually not doing anything original but is instead giving a film history lesson giving us glimpses of the movies of the past.

Follow your own path. Make your own decisions and do not listen to the haters.

Sweet screenplay!!!

If you like Tarantino, you'll like the Screenplay he has written for Death Proof. Simple as that. Plus, it helps young screenwriters to know what to look for and what to do when attempting to write a screenplay of their own.

This is an amazing piece of screenplay literature to own! I am a music major and after reading this and viewing Grindhouse several times I am seriously considering changing my major to film. This is an amazing addition to your library as it weaves you in and out of action, horror and sex; the "100% Death Proof" Tarantino way.

A great screenplay to a great film.

Wow. Tarantino does it again, and is still at the top of his game. Quentin took a break from his smooth dialogue in both Kill Bill films. But he returns and scores gold once again. I recommend this to anyone interested in Quentin Trantino.

When Tarantino blew up in the early 90's, there were slews of quickie books written to cash in on his enormous popularity. This is not one of them. Jami Bernard has done one of the most thorough and detailed biographies ever done on a celebrity. She misses nothing. The only problem this book has is the same problem almost all Q.T books have- they were all written 2 to 3 years into his career, so there is no recent information. This is one book I'd love to see updated and re-released.It is a richly detailed and fair account of Tarantino's life and career up until 1995.

Excellent, well written book, with a lot of information.

I just finished reading this book, and it is a fine work of reporting. It interviews people from both sides of the Tarantino debate (those who love him and those who hate him), and allows you to draw your own conclusions from all the statements. It covers Tarantino's life from his birth up to the moment when he made Four Rooms.

Too bad this book is out of print. I hope there will be a reissue in the future, probably covering the latest works of Tarantino.

This book is a must-read for every true Tarantino fan.

Jamie Bernard's book is simply amazing. It covers Tarantino's life from childhood till about 1996. The book is well-written, and goes deep into detail and uncovers Tarantino's life as hyperactive kid, movie theater regular, fatherless child and genius moviemaker. This is the single best book ever written about Quentin Tarantino. No other book delivers such great information, biographical facts and stories about the making of his early movies and involvements in projects. If you want to read a good book about Tarantino, get this one first. It's the best!

trust me on this...

What more can I say? Anders is awesome, as are Rockwell, Rodriguez, and of course, Quentin Tarantino. This is a marvelous screenplay, definitely one of my faves. I'm so glad they produced this screenplay!

I'm also a big Tim Roth fan, so I decided to pick up a copy of the play when I saw it being auctioned. I'm so glad I did! There's some great storyboards as well as some black and white pictures of the film.

It's a great bargain! If you loved the movie as much as I did, you'll love this! A+!

The idea was conceptually unoriginal but the actual screenplay turned out to be a magical thing that could not, with all our trying, become what it was in the text; An imaginative piece where all involved brought something worthy to the table. The film which it subsequently became is not even on par with what we could call a "movie". A mess is more the truth. Rodriguez' segment is the only worth viewing and then Quentin's second only because this was still when he was hot and feeling like the character he portrayed. 'Jackie Brown' humbled him. I know it did. The screenplay is a stand-alone and should be approached as such. Do not view the film once done. This diminishes all previous effort.

One of the very best books about Tarantino's movies to day, Smith manages to both analyze his movies from a point of view noone else before him has done, and take a look at the man's work in a numer of contexts that matter to his fans. Well-written, full of insight and not too short, this book might very well make it to the top of must-read Tarantino books. (www.tarantino.info)

Virgin film continues to be the best information one can aquire when interested in a filmmaker. Tarantino may only have released four films as director to date, but he has been a great presence in the film world for many moons.
This book covers everything Tarantino has touched or been a part of in movies. From his own four films, to screenplays directed by others (True Romance, Natural Born Killers, From Dusk Till Dawn), to movies he has acted in (Destiny Turns On The Radio, Dusk again, ect.) and more. It also includes some information on unfinished scripts and projects he's thinking of directing next.
Quentin Tarantino is a major presence in Hollywood and a brilliant young filmmaker, I have read every other book there is to read about him and this is by far the most detailed, complete and easy to read account of his life and career thus far!
Kudos to Virgin Film.
Other great virgin film guides: The Complete Hitchcock, The Complete Scorsese, The Complete Coppola, Tim Burton, The Coen Brothers, Animated Films, Comic Book Films, Gangster Films, Film Noir and Horror Films.

The single review on Amazon for this screenplay is about three words long and doesn't discuss the merits of the literature AT ALL. I'm starting to think Amazon should place word limit restrictions so reviewers can't submit comments such as, "cul movie!"

If you've read my review of Tarantino's PULP FICTION script you'll see that I called it very addictive, and the same is true here, in fact it's more enjoyable to read. I printed it out off of my script website (wiredonmovies.com) and read it rather quickly. The movie itself disappointed me, and seemed like a fanboy's "wet dream" as some have described it. All in all the elements don't quite add up and the film (directed by Tony Scott) has an edge but lacks the humor of Tarantino's edge.

The screenplay is a blast, and differs from the film sometimes, especially the end. I imagine Quentin's version of the film (he originally planned on directing it but turned it down for RESERVOIR DOGS and used the money he made off this script to fund that project) would have been superior to Scott's own outcome.

Excellant biography. Its objective, funny, interesting, and well researched. A must read not only for fans of the hot shot director, but for anyone interested in the process that goes into making movies. My only quarrel is that it ends before the making of From Dusk Till Dawn or jackie Brown.

I am a big fan of the "popular culture and Philosophy" series and I own about eight volumes. This is one of the best in the series. I read these books, both to expand my knowledge of specific philosophers and their theories and ideas as well as to peek at the depths of meaning in some of my favorite works. The decent books in the series will have essays that say "here's a philosopher, here's his idea, this is how it applies to the work in question". which is fine for the first reason i read these books. The really good books in the series have essays that say "here's some things that happen in the work, this is how it illustrates the theme of the work, here's how it relates to the big questions of life, here's how it defends/opposes this philosopher's work". That is precisely what all the essays in this volume do. Whether analyzing Kill Bill as a modern retelling of Oedipus by way of female empowerment, discussing the structure of Pulp Fiction as an analysis of the compartmentalization of time, or using the crooks of Reservoir Dogs to compare group morality, all of the essays truly elucidate Tarantino's movies.

the reason i like this movie is because it has alot of big name actors of the 90s samuel l. jackson, john t, bruce willis, ving rhames, uma thurman, and tim roth i enjoyed when uma thurman got high and was listening 2 some cool music n her house 2 celebrate her and john winning the dancing contest at the restuarnat this movie made me respect samuel jackson more because like denzel most of his movies are outspoken characters in this movie he plays a religious guy who has strong belief in Jesus Christ so with that he tells his partner john during their conversation at a classy restuarant that he is going to retire and walked da earth and john told him he was crazy because da people that walked da earth are known as bums which was kind of funny 2 me and bruce willis breaking on his adorable wife was also funny when he got very mad at her for leaving his father valuable watch at the hotel he had 2 go back and get it and got into so trouble on his way there pulp fiction slightly turned into die hard because bruce was all bloodly up like he was in all of his die hard films ving rhames was the king in this film but later he was raped by a gay guy but bruce saved him and he told bruce that this was between them there was some other scenes but the scenes that i mentioned all my favorite parts of the movie

This is the original screenplay of 1994's top movie, Pulp Fiction. If you haven't seen this flick, do so. Right now. Afterwards, buy this trade paperback and relive all the high points of the film. The stories are great, the characters leap from the pages, and the dialogue is tight and witty. It's $12.95 well spent, if only so you can deliver all the cool lines at parties. My favorite bit of dialogue involves Butch, a boxer, and Esmerelda, a cab driver.

Butch: ...Esmarelda Villalobos--is that Mexican?
Esmerelda: The name is Spanish, but I'm Colombian.
B: It's a very pretty name.
E: It means "Esmerelda of the wolves."
B: That's one hell of a name you got there, sister.
E: Thank you. And what is your name?
B: Butch.
E: Butch. What does it mean?
B: I'm an American, baby, our names don't mean s***.

I've already written a review for the movie which I gave five stars and now i'm giving the same to the screenplay. The scrrenplay had all of the same things the movie had and some stuff that was left on the cutting room floor in the final cut of the movie, but the screenplay is always good to read to see the way the story was told and then put on film. For example, the Marcellus and Zed scene when you see it you are utterly disgusted and strangely mesmerized at the same time and when you read that part in the screenplay the way Quentin Tarantino wrote and explained the scene was magnificent although I try to skip that entire scene while watching the DVD.Quentin Tarantino is not
only a great director but he is also the definitive screenwriter
and Pulp Fiction proves that the man can write.

Reads like a book; very addictive. Great dialogue.

PULP FICTION, the film, is one of my favorites, and I own both the DVD and the screenplay by Quentin Tarantino. Now, as with most things, since Quentin has become ultra-popular, it's suddenly become "cool" to dislike him and his movies (particularly FICTION). Quoting Dave Thomas (SCTV), "Let's get down to the nitty gritty here": Whether or not you like the film, Quentin DOES have a knack for superb dialogue, and here is proof.

Recommended on all levels - one of my hobbies is scriptwriting and this is a definite inspiration as it was written by a man-child who never took a single screenwriting course. He just did it, and that's always been my own strategy when it comes to these things.

The reason why bad movies are so fun is that they are made, ostensibly, in earnest. This double-feature is not. It's an homage to such movies, made in a tongue-in-cheek fashion. I don't find this particularly clever or funny. Why should someone be paid millions to make a bad movie, let alone two for the price of one? I will say that Tarantino and his partners should be praised for marketing genius. I'm not going to force laughter or awe for something that is so obviously forced and terrible.

Grindhouse: The Sleaze-filled Saga of an Exploitation Double FeatureWhat a great way to remember & celebrate two awesome films by producing such an amazing book. It is like re-living the movies.I just absolutely love how the book cover looks old and torn...typical Q.T..authentic to the last detail.Great pictures showing every detail and by the look on Kurt Russell's face it shows just how much he obviously enjoyed himself while making "Deathproof" I would say he was having the time of his life playing such an 'over-the-top" villain.Congratulations Q.T you've done it again!!

An associate of mine had picked up this book and I had thumbed through it. I kept thinking about the book after my brief glance and had to purchase the book. The designer did a magnificent job with the layouts of this book. I really enjoyed the design. The book captured that "B" movie feel with torn edges and worn pages, and poster layouts that looked very authentic to the time and type of film the directors were mimicing. Everything was aged just right. The book like the films is split in half and the info and backgrounds are just great. A+ design job.

I really enjoyed the RR/QT Grindhouse release, so after getting the special editions of both films (the extra disc best buy ones in a tin case!), I just had to grab this book too. The book reads like the DVDs' special bonus features play. Interviews with cast and crew, nice on-set color photos, and some 'promo-art' pages (the kind you want to tear out and put on your wall) make up the book with the inclusion of Planet Terror and Machete screenplays. Death Proof, Thanksgiving, and Machete each have their own sections; also a RR/QT POV exploitation film experience discussion is included. Each film has a breakdown of Stunts, Special Effects, and the main players. The layout fits with the films' atmosphere, with psuedo-worn pages and nice graphics. The book is manufactured well, sturdy binding with a nice durable semi-matte hardcover.

So for the film's fans who want a little extra bonus features this is a good buy. There is some film-making insight, but this is more of a glimpse, and some of it is in video form on the DVDs. It supports the involved, and since its box-office revenue was less than desired, I loved these films and the idea behind their conception and would love more of them. So please, if you love these films, buy this book, buy the DVDs, and hey even push your local niche-theaters to rerun Grindhouse come halloween! -SOB

From the Elmore Leonard book, Quentin Tarantino is the best filmaker to take his work and turn it into the perfect movie that it is. Leonard's book was already good, but Tarantino understood how you need the extras in the story to make it great and the movie does all of that and more!

Wow...based on Rum Punch by Elmore Leonard, this hardboiled but tamed Tarantino script has just about all you could want in a Tarantino film. But the finished product lacks a real raw power like Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. Even True Romance was a little better than this.

Jackie Brown is a wonderfully acted movie! It does go a little too long and is a little boring at times. It's a movie about a girl, a killer, a cop, and a loan man trying to get to the money (robbing it). Kids wouldn't like this. They wouldn't get it. Rated R: for language, violence, a brief scene of sexuality

I saw this movie. In fact I watched it several times, because it was near perfect. One of my favorite scenes was the bailing out of jail of Jackie Browne by the bail bondsman. Here is a guy who is firmly fixed within his niche in life, is used to dealing with criminals in a professional capacity - purely business wise. Then he meets Jackie Browne.

As she walks toward him from her cold confinement, compassion for her plight embraces him, not effusively, but tentatively. He is a professional bail bondsman, after all. But he wants to get to know her, and so he does. The intersection of their lives is arrived at from two quite distinct cultural lines. Yet they become friends, for both want it, mostly him. He even stops into a music store and buys a Motown sound, the Shawndells (sp?). That is great characterization, simply superb, for it is a real parsing out of the humanity even the most lonesome, the most calloused of us can at times feel for another, and rendered in the movie perfectly. They are basically decent people and it shows. That's just one of the things about this movie I like.
