This book should be read by anyone not just girls. It teaches
people that if they are molested or abused it is not their fault
especially if they are kids. They didn't do anything wrong. I would recommend this book to anyone who can read.

Jesus, Nina sure wen't through alot! My blood ran cold when her uncle said they were going to adopt a child! Luckily, Nina spoke up. i would have been afraid to tell. Let's hope what Christopher was doing didn't mean any thing. Anyway, it was great!

Nina won't tell is an excellent book from the series Making Out, all written by Katherine Applegate.

It deals with 2 separate topics that Nina won't talk about:

1.) Her crush on her sister's ex, Ben. He happens to also be her best friend's brother.
2.) Her uncle molesting her when she was much younger.

With the help of her friends, Nina is able to confront her past and come out ten million times stronger. By the end of this book, you will be so proud of Nina, even though she is a fiction character.

Nina Won't Tell is basically 2 stories about Nina.

One is that Nina loves Ben, Claire's old boyfriend. Nina has loved him for the longest time, but she hasn't got the guts to tell him. She's afraid that if she tells Ben, he won't love her back and she'll be embarrassed and alone.

The other is a deeper problem that Nina experienced while staying with her Aunt Elizabeth and Uncle Mark in Minnesota after her mother died. The problem probably wouldn't have come to anyone's attention if her Aunt and Uncle wouldn't have come out to Maine to visit them. Nina lives in fear until the end of the book.

By the end of the book, you'll have laughed, cried, and mentally said, "You go, Nina!" millions of times!

Somebody should have told Christopher, if he is going to play the field. You do not do it on a small island wherer everything is accessible by foot. He should have kept that on the mainland. I was so glad when Nina blew the whistle on her slime ball Uncle, and when she finally told Ben how she really felt. I like Nina and Ben.

Practical, insightful advice to help grads assimilate to the real world. Great to learn about the professional climate and how you can fit in!

At age thirty-two, I found this book to be enlightening, informative and life-changing. Alexandra Levit writes in a wonderfully warm, readable style that's the perfect combination of personal and professional. I've been working for over fifteen years, so I've had to learn some of the corporate world's lessons the hard way-developing a corporate persona, maintaining a positive attitude, and not "shoulding" all over myself. I also appreciate the excellent advice for goal-setting, saying no gracefully, and polishing my interpersonal and communications skills. Throughout the book, Levit clearly and concisely outlines how to get ahead and what mistakes to avoid. My only complaint is that I didn't have this book when I was in college! I urge all college students to read this and refer to it often, because the knowledge and skills you'll learn will help you not only at work but also in transforming other areas of your life.

Great practical advice about how to navigate the often heavily steeped in politics world of corporate America. This author is insightful, but has a sense of humor as well. Readers will benefit from reading this book because she offers key pieces of advice that can be applied immediately. I especially like the section that deals with how to get along with co-workers, and why it's important to have friends at work. Too many books advise not talking too much to anyone at work, and she gives a more realistic viewpoint that twenty somethings can relate to.

This book would be perfect required reading for anyone who intends to work in a business after they leave school. For those of us much longer in the tooth than the author, we forget just how much newbies do not know about the business world. Her insights are honest, refreshing, often humorous and absolutely bang on. I can just imagine how fantastic an employee she became through this introspection. If you read it so it helps you guide new employees, or for your own growth, there is something for everyone in it. Organized, easy to read and quick.

Managers searching to work with GenY employees would greatly benefit from reading this book. Why? Because it helps them bridge the gap and understand how Gen Y thinks. GenY wants two things: They want to be productive, and they want to succeed. Some traditionalist and baby boomers have a hard time understanding why Gen Y needs tools like a Blackberry to be productive. GenY wants these tools because they grew up with them. This is the generation that grew up IM'ing, texting, e-mailing, etc. They are most productive with these types of tools, and will blow your minds with their accomplishments if you provide them with what they need. Gen Y wants to feel useful and productive - you need to challenge them and their abilities and give them room to prove themselves.

Simply put this book is outstanding. I have given two copies to direct reports and would not hesitate to recommend.

"The Art of Business: In The Footsteps Of Giants" is a feel-good business book. That's meant in a nice way. It's not a `do it this way and you'll be wildly successful, then you'll feel good' book. It's a `here are some great stories' book that you'll feel good about after you read it, but also be able to practically apply whether you're a one-(wo)man band or leading a division of hundreds.

In this book, Yeh successfully marries Eastern life philosophy with Western business philosophy. One of Yeh's inspirations in writing this book was Sun Tzu's "The Art of War", an immensely influential ancient Chinese book on military strategy. Early on in his career, Yeh said he noticed that many top Japanese executives read "The Art of War." Yeh's other inspiration in writing this book was his frustration with the cold, systematic approaches outlined in so many popular management books. By blending these two cultures, Yeh is able to apply the Eastern ideas of balance and organic wholeness with Western business management ideas.

In the prologue, Yeh states: "Although many books attempt to translate Sun Tzu's wisdom into systematic guidelines for business, the wisdom of this ancient teacher actually needs to be experienced rather than simply analyzed. To offer you, the reader, that experience, I have chosen to present Sun Tzu's teachings in story format. These stories describe how the best companies in the world have put Sun Tzu's strategies to work, allowing you to follow in the footsteps of giants...". And that's exactly what Yeh delivers in "The Art of Business: In The Footsteps Of Giants".

Yeh divides the book into five sections: The Art of Possibility; The Art of Timing; The Art of Leverage; The Art of Mastery; and The Art of Leadership. At the beginning of each of the major sections, Yeh spends some time laying out his ideas of the topic and their relationship to both Eastern and Western ideals. Then he tells three different stories about three different organizations (or in the case of The Art of Leadership, people) that all relate to the topic at hand. The stories aren't prescriptive; they're illustrative, giving great examples of his ideas in action. The stories are easy reads, like reading a good novel instead of a `here's what's good for you, do this, do that' run-of-the-mill management book.

As someone that has read many business and management books, some chosen for me and many chosen by me, I would rate this book in the top-tier, primarily because of its simple, eloquent way of bringing balance to business. It's worth the time and money you'll invest in it, and worth keeping in your library to re-read in the future.

Leader who are centered, self aware and live "in the moment" have a unique presence. They make an a big impact on people because of their stillness, clarity, and humility. This book does a wonderful job of revealing how certain leaders have acquired the inner soul and spiritual presence to transform organizations.
Leadership is an "art" and this book teaches you how to become the artist! Many great stories and examples are included in each chapter.

There are a lot of books out there which are geared toward the businessman that can mold their corporation around a universal example which may be obtainable in both theory and practice; however for a small enterprise like mine finding a business book that quotes examples relative to the scope of my organization are impossible to find. In order to utilize my experience from reading The Art of Business I found it necessary to throw out most of the physical examples and concentrate on the underlining theories.
Perhaps the most dramatic jump I was able to make was at the example of Singapore. From the books example Singapore's only natural resource was its uneducated and untrained population. I was able to implement the Singapore model by evaluating my workers ability to receive and implement education and advanced training. The resulting workforce became an in-house force of loyal employees.
Personally I can only recommend this book to those who can think outside the corporate box. If that happens to be who you are get a copy and don't follow the examples to the letter. Allow your business to flow through the examples till you find one that works.

I bought this book soon after the original television program was first broadcast and it's one I re-read often -- it remains one of my favorites. Although it is a very faithful (almost word-for-word and image-for-image) presentation of the material in the series, to have the information in a book to read at one's own pace (instead of being forced to absorb information at the pace of the television production), to carefully consider what Dr. Bronowski says, and to see what (if anything) it means to the reader makes the book an almost indispensable companion to the series.

As has been pointed out in earlier reviews, the high impact of this book (and of the television series) is the passion Dr. Bronowski brings to the material, how it's clear he truly believed that it is necessary for everyone to understand how the development of society is the product of generations of people pursuing knowledge ("science"), and that this understanding is critical to the future of civilization...the scientific imagination, standing always at the edge of the unknown and unsure, versus absolutism and dogma.

Now that the television series has been attractively remastered and is now available to the general public, the book has an even greater utility. The captions on the DVDs are very poorly done, to the extent that some of the errors make significant changes in Dr. Bronowski's statements and points. It's clear that whoever prepared the captions did not refer to the shooting script OR TO THIS BOOK! In other words, the book is important to correct errors in the captions. If one needs the captions this book is a valuable resource to ensure the viewer gets the correct words and, therefore, understands what Dr. Bronowski is presenting.

This series has been available on DVD for about 2 years or so from Ambrose Video. The price is high.

Previous reviews don't do Bronowski justice. He began as a mathematician; but after being sent to Hiroshima, as part of a team studying the aftereffects of the nuclear blast, he switched to biology. He was warm and articulate. A poet himself, he was one of the few people who truly understood the English poet William Blake, although (unlike most of his writing) his essays about Blake could use some explaining themselves. He was a highly moral man and did two original things you don't see many others even attempting: He saw the "doing" of science as an act every bit as creative as composing a symphony or writing a poem -- and he explained it in that way -- and he sought a structure for rationalizing morality and ethical behavior that did not rely upon religious precepts. The Ascent of Man is a very personal work, and it says so in its subtitle. It pretty much echos word for word what Jacob Bronowski spoke extemporaneously as he was sent around the world to the places he needed to be in order to explain the ideas he needed to express as he filmed his material for public television. Ironically, I said that very badly: I meant that HE could explain very complex notions with terrific elegance and simplicity. Period. By the way, the process of making the series for TV must have taken a toll, as JB died not long after completing the necessary travels. The Ascent of Man is all excellent but has many especially moving moments. Only one example occurred when JB walked fully clothed and shod into a pond at Auschwitz in acknowledgment of family and friends and fellow countrymen whose ashes were dumped there by fascists who laid claim to a handle on absolute certainty. Read this topnotch book, then find more by him. And if you're thirsty for more, try a little Loren Eisely as well. The accomplishments of humankind as explained by thoughtful scientists can prove wonderfully exhiliarating.

If you're looking for a book that will show you how man made it from day 1 to the present, while encomapssing ALL disciplines and not science alone, you've found the right book! It's is incredible how simply and interestengly Mr. Bronowski has accomplished such a feat. You won't be able to put it down!

This is one of the first, and one of the better, history of science sorts of series. If you enjoy history and science, then its worth watching. But the program, and to a lesser extent the book, in my mind suffer from a serious flaw: namely; that the author can not seem to divorce himself from his own religious views, which intrude at a number of times in the program. How can I take someone seriously who is speaking about archeological history, while at the same time speculating about the Biblical conquest of Jericho? There is a disconnect here that leaves you wondering. One can always quibble about what major scientific advances are noteworthy, and different authors have seized upon various individuals; but we have in this series nothing out of the ordinary. Looking at "Cosmos" or "The Day the Universe Changed" is much more fulfilling, from an intellectual standpoint, but its still worth purchasing and enjoying.

This is not only a great period read, but a truly outstanding novel. I thoroughly enjoyed every page of this book. Caldwell's research of the time period helps make the novel more believable, and makes the reader feel as if they were in the first century Roman Empire. Caldwell pays fine attention to detail when describing her settings, emotional natures, and physical traits of her characters. An example can be found on page 493; "The earth danced in heat waves; the sea flashed like blue fire." Here Caldwell personifies the earth, and uses simile to provide imagery of Lucanus's searching, and his attempts to record the life of Jesus. Again in the journey narrative, Caldwell uses metaphor to bring an ominous atmosphere to the mind's eye saying, "The moon was a yellow skull in the dark sky." Caldwell is careful not to clutter the work with description; she develops the plot well. I found her writing style easy to follow, which engages the reader and keeps them wanting more. There is no overwhelming theme of the novel; the book follows one man's journey, Lucanus (St. Luke), to come to know God and document the life of Christ. Although the book is religous in nature, Caldwell gives an objective perspective and does not preach to the reader. This is a great novel for people of all walks of life.

This book is to be read and re-read!!! It contains so much wisdom, insight, and all of it written in such a powerful way.
If you are curious about one of history's most fascinating time periods, this book will definetely enthuse you. It is filled with so many visual descriptions capable of transporting you back in time as you read! I could not put it down
Luke's story is inpiring and Caldwell's treatment is sublime.

This book is REALLY awesome. I like how Taylor makes St. Luke ( Lucanus) like a real person instead of some holy guy that you can't relate yourself to. It's full of Israelites, Romans, and Lucanus' quest to find who he is and what God calls him to do. It's truely hard to put down and is a beautiful story. I'm 13 and I reccomend this book to kids my age and up. If you want a really good book to read... this book is for you!

I just read this book and found it hard to put down. Ms Caldwell's description of the Roman world along with the portrait of the main character make this novel a must whether you are a religious person or simply a lover of history.

Even though I am agnostic I enjoyed this book a lot. I read it in under a week. It is a wonderful story, not overly religious. A fascinating look at life 2000 years ago.

I had to pick this book up for my yoga instructor certification course. Initially, I approached like I do all textbooks, with dread and out of necessity. I expected it to be WAY over my head, especially since I am relatively new to rigorous practice of yoga. However, Desikachar's writing style and tone make this book completely accessible. I have learned so much from this book and what I have found is that Desikachar's words are very easy to incorporate into my dharma talks and apply to my yoga practice. The book is very well organized and very well laid out with each section building on the previous section's information. There is even a Sanskrit pronunciation guide in the back of the book! In addition to that, Desikachar's gift is his ability to share his knowledge and his passion in a way that engenders hope and allows the readers to have faith in their abilities, at whatever level of their yoga practice. It's not so much that he tells you what to do and places an expectation on you to do it. No, it is more as if he shares what he knows and wants the reader to be able to experience the joy and the profound effects of yoga. I highly recommend this book to any level yogi who practices any style of yoga.

I have used this book both a teacher and a student. I use this book for all our teacher training programs with huge success. This is a gem of a book. A necessary read for students and teacher's of Vinyasa. Having practiced at the KYM mandiram and having met Desikachar makes this book even more amazing as he is a living vibration of this book.

This book is interesting but is a somewhat detailed read. It teaches the background of yoga and ideas toward developing a personal plan toward practicing yoga.

This is really the best book on yoga asana by someone who had a long experience with it. Very easy to read and user friendly. It is one of the
best gift from India to the world. I can say only one word to the author

The Heart of Yoga presents a clear understanding of the teachings of yoga from a perspective that respects the individual and the stages of life. It also has a commentary on The Yoga Sutras which I thoroughly enjoyed. The book and commentary are written in a manner which is easy to understand. I would recommend this book to new and experienced yoga practitioners.

Julia's Kitchen Wisdom: Essential Techniques and Recipes from a Lifetime of Cooking

While this book has many basic techniques and basic recipes, it is essentially a condensed version of the more-comprehensive book by Julia Child: The Way to Cook. If you purchase The Way to Cook, this book will disappoint you in comparison. It's a great cookbook on its own, but an unnecessary purchase if you already own The Way to Cook, since every recipe in Kitchen Wisdom is included in The Way to Cook.

When a cook stops regarding his work as
a process of rote food preparation from basic recipes, and
instead views it as a disciplined craft that transcends
way beyond the kitchen confines, then he/she is ready for
this book and others like it.

I have an enormous cookbook collection, but I still buy more... The title of this book says it all - Essential Techniques and Recipes from a Lifetime of Cooking. It's slim but every page has valuable wisdom from Julia Child - you can almost hear her as you read each page. I have already purchased three additional copies of this cookbook as gifts for my two daughters and my mother. It is totally appropriate for the beginning cook as well as the most experienced.

This instantly became my favorite cookbook and I use it so much that it doesn't spend much time on the shelf. This cookbook transcends the "collection of recipes" style of most cookbooks; its style is more "how to improve your cooking skills."

Even so, some of my very favorite recipes are in this book. All the recipes adaptable and are presented in a way to make your own adaptations easier. For example, I love the braised rice recipe and found it easy to adapt the recipe for brown rice by a few minor adjustments. And this rice is good! Really, every recipe that I have tried is good.

In addition to producing wonderful tasting food, these recipes aren't the type that take hours of elaborate preparation. You can use this book to prepare full, decent meals after work in a reasonable amount of time.

This book is suitable for nearly all levels of cooking skills. It assumes some familiarity with basic cooking techniques, so a first-time cook might need a little help.

T. R. Pearson is probably my favorite author -- I look forward to reading his books and stop by amazon on a regular basis to check for his new works. Augie's Quest was a most interesting read for me for two reasons -- Pearson was the author, and I have been personally touched by ALS (my father and one of my brothers died from the disease). The story of Augie, his journey with ALS, his drive and determination to work towards a cure, to pursue new paths in search of a cure -- is most captivating -- and knowing T. R. put the words to paper assured me that many people would find this book and come away being touched by Augie's story -- for the story itself and for the superb writing. When you finish this book, think about a donation to Augie's foundation, and then come back to amazon and search out Mr. Pearson's other writings -- mostly fiction -- you will be glad you did.

Augie: Thanks for sharing your world past and present! Your book gave me a terrific insight into ALS and your fight for life and significance. You are an inspiration to us all and I came away with a better appreciation for my own life and what is important!

I was a little disappointed in Augie's Quest. I saw Shirley McClaine on a talk show and she was so hyped up about the book and about how Augie was so instrumental and amazing in his quest. True, Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS) is a horrible and quickly invasive disease, but I was more interested in how Augie dealt with his disease than with the tremendous amount of research and technical aspects of ALS that are given in the book. I was looking for a more personal insight into Augie and his wife, Lynne, in their daily dealings with this disease. However,if you know someone with ALS, you will find this book very informative.

"Perhaps no other disease takes the physical and emotional toll quite like ALS, and I can think of no one who understands this more fully than fitness pioneer Augie Neito. This is a different read compared with Tuesdays with Morrie. It contains a wonderful mix of narrative and personal testimony. While it tells the story of Augie's life, it is much more focused on what Augie has chosen to do with his life: find a treatment for ALS, and, cut through some of the academic/scientific red-tape that slows the process. As I was reading I kept thinking of a friend in Idaho who said, "I would never trade what I have learned from this disease for anything in the world!" I was especially struck by the quote: "Life is not measured by how many breaths we take, but by how many moments take our breath away." Thanks, Augie! Well done!

I've been reading this genre (i.e., paranormal young adult fiction) with a vengeance and am writing reviews for the few that really kept me reading (like this one.) Intriguing with a nice romantic sub-plot.

i absolutly loved this book and it made me have to read the others knowing that legacy of lies was just as good so if ther where others who knows they could be better i cant wait to read the others

Lauren Brandt returns back to Wisteria, a small town where she was born, seven years after her famous mother's mysterious drowning. But Wisteria isn't like what Lauren thought it would be; it's not as peaceful as before. For some reason Aunt Jule, Lauren's godmother, refuse to get help for her mentally unstable daughter, Nora. Holly, Aunt Jule's other daughter, seems to be in charge of everything in their family. Nora seems to be haunted and obsessed with Sondra, Lauren's dead mother, and disturbs Lauren about it.
They said Sondra's death was an accident, but who knows. Soon Lauren begins to be curious about her mother's death and thinks it's not an accident but an, murder.
Dark Secret-Don't Tell is similar to The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes because they are both about mysteries and murders. But except Sherlock Holmes is more of an old book and Dark Secret-Don't Tell is more modern.
I think readers that like mysterious, murders, spooky, and fast-pace books would like this book.
I chose this book for this assignment because my classmate, Ariel, said it was so interesting that she finished in two days and I tend to like interesting and fast pace books.
The best parts in this book would probably be those scene where Lauren asks Nora about some but Nora just replied, "Don't tell, it's a secret." This is an awesome book overall and I would rate it a 10/10.

Lauren comes to Wisteria to live with her godmother, Aunt Jule and Jule's daughters, Holly and Nora. Lauren reunites with Nick, their childhood friend, who seems to want to be more than friends with her but then later on in the book he sides with Holly and Lauren is confused. Nora has been acting very weird towards Lauren and Holly tries to convince Aunt Jule to get her psychiatric help because she is also afraid of water and keeps saying that Sondra, Lauren's mom who had died here 7 years before, is still here. Lauren keeps finding everything in her room tied in knots, just what happened to her mom near the time she died. The news had claimed that her death was just an accident and Aunt Jule had stopped the investigations, but Lauren doesnt believe that, she believes it was murder. She has to find out the truth before she dies too, because the things that happened to Sondra before she died are happening to Lauren as well. Whenever something strange happens or Nora does something unexplainable, and Lauren asks her about it, Nora says "dont tell, its a secret". So to find out what really is going on and if her mom really was murdered, read this book.

Don't Tell is one of the Dark Secrets series that I highly recommend to be read - in fact I also highly suggest that everyone read all the Dark Secrets books. Don't Tell is about a seventeen year old girl name Lauren, who has finally came home to where her mother had died mysteriously seven years ago. While just arriving there, she meets her old friend Nick who flirts and tease with her before realizing that she was his old playmate. When she finally arrives to her Aunt's Jule's house, everyone seems to be very warm and welcoming - everyone that is except Nora. Lauren discovers that she wasn't the only one that finds Nora's behaviour strange, Holly, Nora's sister, does too but Aunt Jule doesn't believe that Nora really needs medical attention and wasn't planning to do anything about. Then unexpectedly Lauren finds things in her room twisted in knots - just like what happened to her mother before she died. Nick at first seems to be nice and acting more than a friend to Lauren, but then all of a sudden turns cold and hating towards her and starts to stick to Holly and take her side. Then Lauren experience many horrifying collisons - which she was told to be only 'accidents'. Was her mother's death really accident just as everyone told her? Someone wants her dead, just as someone had wanted her mother... Lauren better hurry and find the killer before they get her...

I find this book to be very thrilling a moment then strange the next. I read it in two hours or so because I kept wondering about lots of things and so I couldn't put it down. When you read this book everything may seem strange and odd, but at the end it gives you answers to all the questions you have been wondering about. I didn't really understand the whole book till I read the ending. However, I don't suggest you skip to the end till your there, it ruins the value of the book and then you won't find it thrilling any longer. Don't Tell definitely deserves a rating of five stars. In most hte Elizabeth Chandler's books the person you always least expect to be the 'bad guy' always end up being it, I found that many people have written that they don't like it. Well I find it an excellent way of writing, it keeps you wondering and guessing who actually did the crime, and at the end it makes you go oh why haven't you thought of it, and thats partly why I read her books so I don't really know why people are saying they hate it. In reality thats mostly what happens, the person who you mostly suspect ends up to be innocent. If Elizabeth Chandler writes that the person everyone suspect is the bad guy then it won't really surprise me and it won't be that good. I just wanted to clarify that. Other than that I hope everyone reads this book because is worth taking time to read!

An absolute necessity for any fiction writer, whether new to writing or used as a refresher. Easy to understand with crucial points listed at the end of each chapter. Discusses the pros and cons of using mystery and suspense elements, pacing, prologues, creating a hook and completing the cycle of hints, red herrings and resolution. This would be a perfect book for a writing class. After manuscript completion, every writer should revisit this book to evaluate their project before submitting to agents or publishers. There are many books on how to write mystery or suspense, but this is by far my favorite. Well Done!

This edition covers just about everything to do with the craft of writing. Serious and succinct, it covers all stages of the craft and offers valuable insight.

This book is a terrific primer for first-time or relatively new writers -- and not just writers of mysteries, but all fiction and even non-fiction. The examples of poor choices and better alternatives that Chris Roerden chooses are clear and relevant. My only nit to pick is the negative construction of the book: with some background in teaching, my preference is always to suggest the right thing to do first, rather than to point out what not to do or how not to do something. A valuable addition to the library of anyone who wants to become a better writer, editor, or reviewer.

DON'T MURDER YOUR MYSTERY is a remarkable book. Not only is it a boon to mystery writers, but also it has excellent examples, techniques and tips for authors of all genres. I plan on gifting this book to friends and all authors who write for Dog-Eared Publications. Nancy Field, Publisher
