I love this show and have been a fan for years. When a character leaves that has been on for a really long time it feels like we lost a member of our family. I do want to thank NBC for Actor Jesse L. Martin - Detective Ed Green for not killing him off or finding him guilty. That would ruin this show for me. Why I'm thankful because he can comeback if he wanted to (I hope). It did seem that since the death of (my favorite) Actor Jerry Orbach - Detective Lennie Briscoe he really hasn't found a someone to compliment him even though he did work with a few partners one can see he could use a break. It cant be easy. When NBC finally found someone (new character) Jeremy Sisto - Detective Cyrus Lupo to partner with I thought it was a perfect fit they complimented each other. One quiet, the other not and so on. But he seemed to be hired to late for I think Jesse (burned out) needs the break. I hope he has a very good retirement from the show (hopefully it's just a break) for we will miss him, greatly!

They got it right this season! Linus Roache and Jeremy Sisto are great additions to the cast and Sam Waterston as the new DA is fantastic. This was my favorite show back in the Jerry Orbach days and it has become my favorite show again. It's back to being entertaining with twists and turns and wondering what the EADA is capable of. The writing is back along with great acting. Maybe being a bubble show was enough to wake up the powers that be. Whatever the reason, Season 18 shows why "Law & Order" will break the record set by "Gunsmoke".
Great start, but where are the rest of the seasons?

I was thrilled to see that Law & Order on Unbox. I'd say Law & Order was great for maybe fourteen of its eighteen seasons, which is an amazing record when you think about it. The last few years there has been a mad shuffle of cops and AADAs (assistants to the assistant district attorney - there's a mouthful) that have made the show less enjoyable.
I'd say I've seen probably 95% of all episodes on TNT re-runs, but I found a few here that I'd missed. I love the fact that you can buy individual episodes, since it would be a huge waste of money for me to buy the full dvd when I've seen most of the material already.
After picking a few from seasons 1 & 2, I looked forward with great anticipation to combing though seasons 3, 4, and 5. Perhaps you can imagine my disappointment when I saw that Amazon only provides five of eighteen seasons, and only two of the early ones. This saddens me especially since I consider the last few seasons of the show to be almost unwatchable. I hope that I will see more seasons available for Unbox soon.
For those of you who haven't seen seasons 1 & 2, I'd urge you to take a look. The show started out with a grittier edge, and focused more on the fine points of New York law. They also have fewer "ripped from the headlines" episodes, and of the ones that are, you're much less likely to remember the original events, which makes them more fun.

Thank you so very much to Amazon for bringing this fabulous show to us. I have neer seen a show with the longevity that surpasses and great behind the seens production that has made the show what it is today. Any show that can say it's been around for 18 years is nothing short of amazing. All the cast, past and present, deserve all the accolades possible. I hope L&O does surpass "Gunsmoke" and make it for 20 years. If anyone has never seen the show, I recommend buying one episode to try it out. It's a good $2.00 investment. Thank you Amazon, NBC, and all the incredible talent that makes the original the best.

First of all: The book's content is o.K. and provides a lot of information on Meg Ryan's life - private and work. Although some of the details seem to be "borrowed" elsewhere and do not match to other sources the author still tries his best to cover all you can get about actress Meg Ryan.
It is a strange book (see my review title) because it seems to be "handwritten" in layout and style and the pictures are the worst copies I ever saw. The "typewriting" is hard to read because the quality is poor.
Nevertheless: content is what counts - four stars...

When I first decided to buy this book, I really didn't know what to expect. I am a Meg Ryan fan, but I didn't know much about her personal life - until I read this book. First I want to say that this is the best written biography I have ever read on anyone. This book not only talks about her films, but also her career, past loves, troubles, childhood, etc . . . Everything! It is also very interesting and keeps you turning the pages! All in all, it is a masterpiece! Highly recommended!

Meg chose to violate her mother's privacy, and I give her mother cudo's for speaking out and defending herself. Like Meg, Susan chose to leave an unhappy marriage; Unlike Meg, she was not making millions of dollars, and I am sure had to make some choices based on survival. How many of our mothers had the choices that MEG has now, my mother sure did not. Life is not perfect; nor is anyone. I can only hope Meg can avoid the pain of losing a parent one day without saying goodbye, like I did. I think the other reviews on this page do not show any depth of character- but then again, movie stars are "perfect", right? History indeed does repeat itself; good luck Daisy.

This book is a richly detailed memoir of a particular woman and time... it is the story of the author, growing up in 1950's New England, who felt obliged to obey the dictates of her family, religion and society and who suffered the loss of her own self-worth. It is a fascinating portrait of a woman who discovered her true self through her life threatening illness and literally willed herself well. The author is a 28 year breast cancer survivor. The book has recently been honored with an Arts and Excellence award from the Heal Breast Cancer Foundation, which is studying it as part of their research programs. The book is in the reading libraries of hospitals and the author has been a spokeswoman for The American Cancer Society and The Susan G. Komen Foundation. The author describes herself as "a classic breast cancer personality who became a classic breast cancer survivor." The book is a deeply personal and inspiring account of one woman's triumph over lessons of her past in order to recover her health and a joyful future. I recommend it highly.

As has been stated by so many reviewers before me, "Gosford Park" is a wonderfully written, acted, produced, and most importantly directed piece of cinema history. It comprises a truly stellar cast all delivering solid performances in astonishing surroundings. Especially is the effulgence of the great Maggie Smith hard to ignore.
Other reviewers have described the plot in fine detail, so I shant bother you with that. I'll get straight to the important bits: the directing. Robert Altman was, in my opinion, one of only a couple of directors who could have made "Gosford Park" in a proper way. The character driven story is made believable through his unique style. Especially the dialogue, which bears his trademark clatter, chatter, and ambient noise, really gives the impression that we are in a real, busy household with lots of things to take care of and all the rest of it. You really have to concentrate to hear what they are all saying, and still you're probably going to miss some things. Yet this is what makes the film work so well. It plays on the gossip that drives both the upper and the lower classes. On the rumours, the hearsay, the beliefs.
The writing of course is equally good. Great characters and witty dialogue. I am laughing out loud every time I see this film. It is funny but not ridiculous, it is dramatic, but not shakespearean. It is, in a word, great.

Robert Altman's 2001 Academy Award-winning "Gosford Park" defies easy characterization. Nominally a closed house English murder mystery taking place during a 1930's weekend shooting party at a country estate, it features a huge cast of developed characters, a variety of colliding subplots, and highly detailed period sets. Shot in typical Altman style, the camera ranges upstairs among the aristocrats and downstairs among the servants. There is so much going on that the actual murder almost gets lost in the near chaos.
Each of the guests gathering at Sir William McCorkle's (Michael Gambon) estate for the weekend shooting party has an agenda. Many are financially dependent to one degree or another on the coarse and selfish McCorkle. Rivalries are fought out in politely understated but often vicious conversations. Much of the story is told through the eyes of the servants below stairs, headed by Alan Bates as the head butler and Helen Mirren in a magnificent turn as the housekeeper. Each of the servants has his or her stoutly defended place in the hierarchy of the house, and his or her own secrets, which are suspensefully doled out over the course of the film. Clive Owen, a valet with an attitude, will turn out to have both a leading role and surprising connections with several members of the household. Kelly McDonald, as a young lady's maid learning her trade serving a waspish but financially needy Countess played by Maggie Smith, provides an innocent viewpoint on much of the goings-on.
The murder itself is something of an afterthought, ineptly investigated by a pompous police inspector (in a typically humorous performance by Stephen Fry). Its solution will play out among members of the household in unexpected ways that have little to do with law enforcement.
This is a challenging film to watch. Viewers will want to take advantage of the extra features on this DVD for more insight into what is going and how "Gosford Park" was put together. It is in the end a highly entertaining movie, most apt to appeal to fans of Robert Altman's unique movie-making style and to fans of ensemble British movies.

This well-directed film, Robert Altman's last, I believe, is rich and delightful in many ways. I almost feel that I am watching a documentary of the period between wars in the English country house. From the costumes to the cars and servants, the details are right on.
Maggie Smith and Derek Jacobi give remarkably fine perfomances. Actually, everyone does, even the funny almost over-the-top, Stephen Fry.
I enjoyed seeing this DVD at a friend's house and I knew I wante to view it again and again. So I was happy to find it reasonably priced at Amazon.
