This really is the most elegant book I have seen. What a better example of excellent technical graphic communications from the authors to any reader, than the magnificent design of the textbook itself !!!.
This book, written in a clear and understandable language, covers everything you need to learn about traditional and computer-based techniques used today in real world companies, since more than never technical graphics communication is an essential area of expertise that will make you a highly competitive technologist.

I bought this book as a recommendation of Aho's Foundation of Computer Science in order to develop intelligent recursive algorithms. However, this book is not a programming book (althought it helps programmers a lot) but a very interesting mathematical book showing a whole new way to think with the aid of some classical examples.

The reader will learn about the lives of Signoret before and after marrying Montand, historical facts about the German's occupying France, how civilians survived war, and a good insight of life in France. Signoret also gave a remarkable clever statement when the press asked her about Montand and Marilyn Monroe's tryst. Signoret was a talented, funny, and smart woman.

This book has zero content. It is not a kit, there are no templates. There is a great deal of hyperbole about the author but the only useful function this book could ever have is if you need an expensive door-stop that is not terribly water proof. Here is my PR Kit for free. Dream up a promotion that gives the public something entertaining, pleasant or helps the community. Get out the phone book. Look up your local media. Call them and tell them about your event. That's it. More than this book contains.

This book is stupendous! It covers a tremendous amount of information to get you started in real estate investing. My wife and I are starting a real estate holding company and this book has been the foundation of our learning.
The only strange thing about the book is that for some reason the authors decided to only use the feminine pronouns "she" or "her" when referring to general individuals, such as "It's very difficult for an owner to lose her home and it's often even more difficult for her to..."
At first this was just odd, but it became a real distraction and annoyance that they never use "he or she" or the common practice in English of using the male pronoun for such situations.
Despite this sort of printed verbal tick, this is an excellent book with a lot of information.

This book is a great companion to other books of a more thoeretical nature. Many real estate books focus on why you should invest and the benefits of investing.
This book does that, but then goes one step further. I think the authors and the 'For Dummies' team need to be congratulated as they have given everyone enough detail to make some very solid decisions about your investing.
Very worthwhile and definately well worth the $$. And very solid to know it's written by investors not salespeople.

Real Estate Investing for Dummies is yet another excellent real estate book in the Dummies series. I have "Home Buying for Dummies" and "Property Management for Dummies." Both are highly valued, and frequently utilized, volumes in my investing library.
I have long thought that "Real Estate Investing" by McLean and Eldred was perhaps the top book for beginning real estate investors. But after reading "Real Estate Investing for Dummies," I now think the Dummies is equally as good, although it may not cover quite as much ground. Dummies is excellent in what it presents because it written in a manner that is easily understood, it provides sufficent depth, and it covers the key topics.
I particularly like the chapter on "Due Diligance." The chapter does an outstanding job of describing the components of reviewing books and records, and inspecting a property that you have bid on and have had the bid accepted by the seller. Purchase contracts provide that the sale can be canceled without loss of earnest money if the buyer's physical inspection isn't satisfactory. Following the suggestions in this chapter assure that you won't be surprised with what you get, and gives tips on how to cancel or renogiate the deal, if you need to.
I also like the final chapter, which lays out in plain English the time tested (non-infomercial guru) principals of how to make money in real estate. Buy when market conditions are conducive to buying, when properties are distressed and available as forclosures or on favorable terms with seller financing. Add value to properties. Hold on to properties that offer long-tem stable growth in rental rates. Refinance to tap into investment property equity and to further your real estate investments.
Good solid advice.

This, along with the guide available for free from the CBOT, give you insight on why markets trade as they do and a framework for using that data to understand how well they are trading that way. You only see mention of market profile in passing in other books, since it is not flat out buy/sell here system but more of a pattern of occurring and probable market action.

This is simply the bible of Market Profile. Jim Dalton has laid out the Profile in a clear, usable way. I have been involved in futures trading for over 35 years and some of the concepts (i.e. the effect of other time frame traders) were particularly helpful for me.
I strongly recommend this book and Jim's newest book, Markets in Profile as must-reads for any serious trader.

To pay for the book on the first day read the "Special Situations". Do those when you see them. The rest of the book will make you a better trader for all those other times. Some of you may be put off by the piano metaphors, but the key (sorry!)is that when you see the patterns over and over again, you'll know what to do without thinking overmuch.

I think the reason that at least one reviewer mentioned this book and the phrase "holy grail" is that this books contains an exhaustive exposition of the types or forms of days that the market can have with respect to different time periods. Trading strategies and technical analysis, which are really the only tools that readers can cull from popular trading books, don't really provide a frame, or thorough way to look at the market. Market Profile on the other hand thoroughly explains the auction process in terms of buyer and sellers without recourse to some filter--it's market generated information, not imposed rules. In this sense, it's invaluable. The trading rules thereby procede from what the market tells you. Of course, the market can still fool you but what the book teaches you is how to listen to the market and interpret in its simplest, particulate forms.
My review is at a very abstract level, but the book provides, with maybe too many examples, the types of days that a market can have and their implications and indications. For example, the authors would say that if the trading in the first half hour is within a limited range, then it has a high chance of trading outside that range; if it goes out of that range to the downside, then we have a strong seller presence. If buyers don't step up to buy in this new range, then we would anticipate that sellers are in control of the market, at which point we should place a short position. Now, the market can continue its trend, establish a new range, or buyers can step in to create what is called a buying tail, which is a sign that buyers find value at the new lows. This is a bit complicated, but once you read the book and understand the possible market movements, then it all becomes almost algorithmic and intuitive at the same time. A better title might be "market sense," in the same way that common sense tells us how to frame everyday human situations.

This book, aside from the tiresome lecturing tone on an analogy regarding a pianist striving to reach perfection, WAS EXCELLENT. This book helped me understand how markets perform on an hourly basis, and how that creates a 'value area' where the bulls and the bears seem to agree. This methodology for charting seems to indicate the best place to place a trade (entry) and where to put your stops. Its methodology was indepth, and will require a fair amount of stamina, and intelligence to be understood. I could have done without the "amatuer to competent to proficient" stuff that the book breaks its theory/teachings into. But, aside from that, again, this is a must read for anyone that is serious about trading. I am a beginner trader in the Futures and Commodities markets, and at this time, the Market Profile appears to be the best methodology for when and where to place your trades. I highly recommend this book. Keep in mind, my mentors in this field recommended this book, AND recommend some extensive reading (over 15 books) before you actually start trading.

A sampler box of mountain climbing stories

This book is like a sampler box of climbing stories. It's not a bad collection, but in the end it's a rather unsatisfying meal.
The problem is that most of the stories are excerpts from books, making it hard for readers to fully understand the context of the events they're reading about. It's as if you're suddenly thrown into a dramatic scene on the edge of a mountain without knowing who your climbing partners are or how you got there. Also, several of the stories leave the reader hanging at the end.
The best story of them all was John Climaco's "Dangerous Liaisons," a tale of his exasperating battle with the arrogant Pakistani liason officer who ruined his expedition. (Ironically, it is only tangentially about climbing.)
I also liked Art Davidson's tale of being pinned down in a storm on Mt. McKinley, one of those stories where you can practically feel the chill wind down your back and the frostbite in your toes. Still, it is one of the excerpts that leaves the reader wondering what happens next.
In all, readers interested in mountain climbing stories will be better served by seeking out the original books from which these stories are taken.

Willis' compilations include well-chosen "high points" from selected mountaineering books. Serious climbing-book readers will already have most of the books, but those who just want to get to the solo bivouac scene in which our hero freezes all his toes after losing his partners to an avalanche will find Epic a good buy.

This audio book took me six hours down the road to Mobile without pain. It was so riveting that time disappeared. These are stories of men's struggles to climb the highest mountains in the world, complicated by sheer ice, blinding storms, lack of oxygen, and extreme cold. These authors are the actual climbers so that we are able to understand them as their emotions rollercoaster from elation at the start to deepest despair as they contemplate not only not being able to summit but their very possible end on the mountain. For those who can live vicariously it is the limit.

This book is essentially a compilation of short stories from books written by world class mountaineers. Anyone who is well read in this genre will immediately recognize these short stories from the books they were taken. The stories are exceptionally well written and edited. Some are epic survival tales and others document the never ending string of tragedies that befall many mountaineering expeditions. The format works well even though the stories are in no particular time sequence. I highly recommend this book, and many of the other books from which the stories have been excerpted. Pick some of your favorite short stories from this book and follow up with the complete tomes. You will not be disappointed.

This book is a collection of short stories about some very very very dificult climbings in the most dangerous places(mountains) under the most terrible conditions.
Among the stories are some classics like: The West Ridge-Everest(1.st ascent - Hornbein & Unsoeld); Annapurna(1.st ascent - Herzog version); k2 The Savage Mountain(The Schoening belay - by Bates and Houston); McKinley winter's ascent(by Art Davidson).
The book provides a good taste of the dificulties a climber must surpass in order to succed(survive), the only downpoint is that some stories just missed a more tradicional ending, basicaly because in the end you don't know what happened to the climbers, you can only assume they survive.
