The author of this book, Larry McCabe, is re-releasing books that have gone out of print for one reason or another. This particular book is an old friend. After I received it, I went into my library and found a copy. It has been in print in one form or another for 25 years. Most instruction books don't last anywhere near that long. First, this book (as the author warns) is not for beginners. You need to be familiar with the movable blues scales we all use. If you are playing out, and feel comfortable with the whole neck, get this book. The style of lead is closer to Gatemouth Brown and Freddie King than anyone else. If you don't know who these men are, buy their CDs. You are in for a treat. Please read the author's introduction. There is a lot of good info there. The Tab system is the older style. It should take about 30 seconds to adjust. It's actually easier to read than the current form. If you consider yourself a Rock guitarist instead of Blues, you really could use this book. If you use these solos as a "how to", instead of just memorizing them, they will give you some new weapons. You know, for scaring the heck out of other guitarists.

Advanced High Frequency Radio Communications - ALE

This is by far, one of the best books available that covers the
Automatic Link Establishment (ALE) protocol and other "leading-edge" developments of the integration of data communications and internet connectivity with HF radios and HF radio network design.

This book is densely-packed with technicial information that is useful to the communications hobbyist, and the professional who is involved with HF radio.

For any member of the Amateur Radio Community that may be interested in using ALE techniques in the Amateur Radio Service,

The New Anthropology and the Human Predicament
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2004-03-10
This neat little volume, by the author of __Sons of the Shaking Earth__, is "neither a history of anthropology nor a review of traditional anthropological subject matter," according to its cover synopsis.

At the time of writing, Eric R. Wolf was Distinguished Professor of Anthropology at Herbert H. Lehman College of the City University of New York.

The General Editor, in the Foreward, makes the most profound summary of this little work, when he writes "Professor Wolf shows how scientific investigations, imaginatively pursued, ends in a quasi-religious vision of the human predicament and the human future."

Chapters are these: The New Anthropology, Human Design and Cultural Code, The Transformation of Culture, with an Epilogue, Bibliography, and Index.

While exploring on the Saturnian moon Rhea, Derek Kuroda discovers the first alien artifacts found in more than a century of space exploration. Tests on the enigmatic object suggest that they are either energy packs or weapons. One thing is certain: they are sources of immense power. And so Kuroda joins forces with Sieglinde Kornfeld-Taggart, whose scientific skills and inventive genius helped to form the Island Worlds group of orbiting colonies. Following what had at first seemed a successful Asteroid Belt Rebellion, Liberty has somehow become no more than a word in the Belt as well as on Earth-so the plan is to use the newfound power of the artifacts to launch dozens of asteroid worlds to freedom among the stars. But repressive elements throughout the Solar System are just as intent on stopping them...
Eric Kotani is the pseudonym of a noted physicist. John Roberts is a well-known science fiction writer.

GREAT EDITION OF A GREAT WORK.

It would be interesting to find out just how many editions of this particular work have been published over the years. Needless to say, this work by Robert Louis Stevenson is one of the granddaddys of all poetry books for young (and not so young) children. If you do not have a copy in your child's library, you really should have. This particular edition is illustrated by Eric Kincaid and of the several various versions published that I own or have read, this is one of my favorite. I simply like the art work. Mr. Kincaid has used soft colors and presented his illustrations in a true Victorian style, something I like. The clothing of the children, the background, etc. are all very well done and done in fine detail. Not only do you get a book of classic writing, but you also receive a feast for the eye with this one. Very much recommend this edition.

Helpful Theory

Review Date: 2004-09-07
This earlier edition is much better than the later one, because it has truly canonic essays that are really necessary for an introductory theory course. The psychoanalysis section was particularly helpful, with essays by Lacan, Jerry Aline Flieger, Peter Brooks, and others. Highly recommended. If you are teaching, get this edition rather than the later ones, which are more idiosyncratic in their selections.

Another outstanding record of a famous ship.

Review Date: 2004-09-21
Of course, Dr Robert Ballard will forever remain the man who found the Titanic, but in this book he also provides the reader with an extremely well documented account of the loss of the Lusitania.

Mysteries are mysteries and whilst there are those experts which insist such and such happened, there will also be those who assert the opposite. I shouldn't say this I know, but it the way in which Bob Ballard takes such a thorough approach to his subject, it leaves one feeling that the only book you need to read on the entire subject of the loss of the Lusitania is this one.

Exploring the Lusitania - yet another four-funnelled passenger liner built before WW1, is a large coffee-table book approx. A4 size. Just a glance at the pictures throughout the richly illustrated pages (227 altogether) reveals the extent of the research to which the author has gone on behalf of the reader. There are many historic pictures of the ship itself - including when she was no more than a keel. Others include paintings of the day, newspaper cuttings and postcards showing internal and external views. Then there are the photographs of the tragedy itself and the effect it had upon the people of Ireland. Photographs of seemingly unimportant people at the booking office and individuals such as the Captain. Dr Ballard has been equally thorough when it comes to detailing the U-Boat which sank the Lusitania and we are treated to almost the same level of coverage of vessel and individuals and their trade of war.

Once again, however, the author has put together the most outstanding collection of artwork created by Ken Marschall. From thousands of photographic images taken from the wreckage itself, Bob Ballard created a complete montage (i.e. a big photograph made up of thousands of little photographs) of the various sections of the wreck so that Mr Marschall was able to provide us with the most accurate paintings of various sections and even the entire wreck. The one painting I had to look at again and again was the painting of the sinking across pages 96/97. For a moment there I thought the world's greatest photographer had been on hand to capture the event.

I congratulate Dr Ballard on another excellent and professional job of work. Another outstanding book and yet again 5 stars are not enough.

Good reference for senior year engineering projects
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2001-12-11
With its brief but insightful coverage of the various stages of the design process (including requirement analysis, system design and relevant project management skills), this book eases the transition from studying to the real world of engineering. While the examples given are more relevant to electrical enginnering, the concepts laid out are sufficiently generalised to be useful to anyone. Every engineering student should read a book like this; I wish I had during my undergrad days.

This is the book that got me hooked on the entire RPG genre. It is very well laid out and provides very clear instructions. Compared to AD&D, this would be a little complex. A wonderful book and game.
