The Sesame Street Gang Prove That Size Doesn't Matter

"It's Not Easy Being Big," a Bright and Early book from Random House and the Children's Television Workshop, takes the basic concepts of big and small and puts them both in a fun, brightly illustrated tale for youngsters. Big Bird, obviously, reveals the perils of being too big. Elmo tackles problems on the other end of the spectrum. While big and small are the focal point of the book, similar concepts like high and low and up and down are also briefly touched on.

This is an excellent story to read to youngsters in the early stages of reading. Stephanie St. Pierre has kept it simple enough for some pre-K and Kindergarten kids to read this story with little to no adult assistance. John Lund's vivid active illustrations of Big Bird, Bert, Ernie, Elmo, Harry Monster, and other Sesame Street favorites will also help your child's reading development.

Overall, this is a fun book that children will love and parents will enjoy reading to them. Highly recommended.

This is such a cute book. My toddler asks me to read it to her all the time and I don't mind reading it over and over. It has a good message about the challenges we all face but is done in a light-hearted, very cute way. It also is a good teaching tool to compare things of different sizes.

The book Its not easy being big is a very good book for anyone no matter how old they are i think because to me it seems like it shows that no matter how tall you are or how big or small you are you can accomplish anything in this world. somethings that small people can do tall people cant..but there is nothing wrong with trying. and that is what they do in this book. try even if they dont accomplish they still try. They dont GIVE UP!!!

My daughter is nearly 19 months old, and we purchased this book for her around her first birthday. She loved it from the first time we read it, no doubt due to all of the balls inside. She loved identifying each and every ball. She still carries it everywhere she goes, and now she's old enough to point out and name a variety of objects in the book. I'd recommend this book to any mother.

In this story Big Bird tells his friends that it is not always easy being big. He tells how he is too big to swing, too big to ride on a bike, and too big to hide.
Elmo comes on the scene to share with his friend that it is not always easy being small. He tells him that he is too small to see above other people, and too small to reach somethings.
They realize that sometimes being big is easy and sometimes being small is easy, sometimes it's hard, but working together is the best of all. No matter what size you are, you are just who you are suppose to be.
Good lesson to learn.

This was definitely as good as the first novel. It's fast paced, the characters are clear in your mind, and although it does contain detailed parts, it doesn't distract from what's going on. Love the show...Love the book.

I THINK ROBERT TINE DID AN EXCELLENT JOB WITH THIS BOOK. I COULD IMAGINE EVERYTHING HAPPENING AS I WAS READING. I FOUND IT HARD TO PUT DOWN WHICH I FOUND HARD TO GET USED TO SINCE I AM NOT A READER OF BOOKS AT ALL. THIS IS THE FIRST BOOK THAT I ACTUALLY FINISHED AND IT HELD MY INTEREST ALL THE WAY THROUGH. I CANT WAIT FOR ANOTHER BOOK TO COME OUT AND I AM STILL LOOKING TO FIND BOOK ONE AS I KNOW IT WILL BE AS GOOD AS THE FIRST.

Thisis an excellent read. I've been searching for it to reread for a couple of months now but these prices are too high! Amazon should look into this because it seems like price fixing to me. I love the series and this title is hard to come by, however, at these prices I'll look on Ebay. I'm sure I can find it for about $2.00 there. Take my advice, read the book. It's great! But look on Ebay or Half.com for it. These prices are crazy.

Having read the first TV Tie-In for JAG I was excited to continue on to the second. I was hoping it would be just as exciting and fast paced as the first. Thankfully, I was not disappointed.

Again, I feel that Robert Tine really has a knack for capturing the feel of an episode of JAG. The characters were true to form and mirror images of the ones I've grown to love through the show. The dialogue was authentic -- funny when called for and serious when it had to be. Something I love about JAG is the tendency to jump from humor to drama and Mr. Tine captures that feel very well in this novel.

As per the first novel, the plot was enthralling and intricate and kept me guessing and completely involved right up until the very end. This story line would really make an exciting episode of JAG!

Again, I was well pleased with Mr. Tine's ability to capture the chemistry between Harm and Mac perfectly. Their banter was just as witty and captivating as that on the program.

An added bonus in this book is the increased inclusion of Bud Roberts -- a character I've grown fond of and who adds much to the story by way of levity.

Once again I was sad to note that a picture section had not been included in this book either -- I still say this would make a nice addition to these highly readable books!

All in all, _Clean Steel_ was a superb read -- on the same par with the first book in this series. I was quite impressed with this book and will read it again. Once more I was able to picture the actors who play these parts while I read the story which is a exceptional accomplishment on the part of Mr. Tine -- he captured their essence so well.

_Clean Steel_ was a first class read that I completely enjoyed. I certainly hope there are plans to continue with this line of TV Tie-Ins. I, for one, would definitely buy them!

Once again, a great JAG novel!

I was just as pleased with the second JAG novel as I was with the first. It picks you up right from the start and dosen't put you down 'till it's over.

There is no court room action this time, the story is based aroud and investigation, but it has lots of action none the less.

I think this book was edited much more throughly than the last, although there are still one or two small mistakes that a deticated JAG fan would pick out :o) Though once again, Harm does not fly an F-18!

Oh well maby they'll get it right in the next book, and I hope there will be a next one!

This is a great story for girls (and boys) because it tells the story of a girl who follows her dream regardless of what the people around her say. Jane perservered even though she was told "girls can't be knights". The story is told lightly and the drawings are sweet.

My two and a half year old does not watch much TV but she loves Jane and the Dragon on Saturdays (she also likes Jacob Two Two and we have ordered those books as well). She was very excited when she saw the books as well. In a time when TV execs could not allow Dora to be on top (by giving Diego his own show) it is nice to have a female lead that is strong and brave but also sometimes makes mistakes and learns from them.

The stories are interesting enough for older kids too.

As the mother of a young daughter, I am always aware of how hard I must work to ensure that she sees herself as a person and not an object. I absolutely love how this book turns convention upside down and how Jane is true to herself even when everyone else--her parents included--is trying to tell her to conform. This book served as an excellent introduction to a brief discussion with my daughter as to how she can be anything she wants to be, no matter what others tell her.

The comprehensive 448 page book shows you how to spot fakes, determine value, and care for your collection. It also discusses where to buy movie posters --- collector shops, mall shows, conventions, catalogs, and the internet --- pointing out the pros and cons of each. There's even a section with ads for many of the most reputable poster dealers.

This is currently one of the few books available to the poster collector, and fortunately it covers a vast range of topics in depth.

LEARN ABOUT MOVIE POSTERS is a great guide to collecting authentic movie posters. It is useful for the seasoned collector and the film enthusiast who is just warming to the idea of owning a few movie posters. Written by Ed and Susan Poole, the book distills the important information about collecting film posters and brings the entire subject into focus. What's an authentic poster? Where did these posters come from? When did people begin to collect them? Do posters come from all countries? Are there cartoon posters? Did famous artists work on these posters? Can you still get silent movie posters? How do you buy a movie poster, and where can you see them? Is the internet useful in trying to find movie posters? Who are the great dealers in film material? What makes certain posters valuable? All the information in the book is useful, and if the book doesn't answer every last question, it addresses the areas in which questions naturally arise. This one should be in your library. The information in this book is of great help and is written in a clear and concise manner.

This book was absolutely hilarous. It captured the life of a 11 year old genius surrounded by his family of idiots. Including the dimwitted Reese. The overbearing screaming Lois. The somewhat dumb dad named Hal who's just a bumbling big kid at heart. The cute(or so they say)little brother Dewey. The eldest brother Francis who attends military school after his reckless behavior in the past. And it all comes down to the kid with the IQ of 165! This book is all about the normal----did I say normal?--family of the Wilkersons.

Based on the "Pilot" and "Krelboyne Picnic" episodes, you can re-live both episodes just from reading the book, which is why i loved it! Experience the humilation and humor Malcolm goes through, just from reading the book! I am 14, and i love the series! (well maybe cuz im a big fan of the show but ya know...). The reading level is very easy, so it is a "kick-back-and-relax-while-you-read" kind of book. It is not confsuing so you don't have to think while you read. I'd recommend this book as well as the other books in the series. Definitley check out the "Water Park" book in the series. (#2) You can surely re-live that episode easily!! :)

Introducing you to the Unfair World of Malcom in the Middle
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2002-02-06
"Life is Unfair!" is a novelization by Tom Mason and Dan Danko of the first two episodes of the Fox television series "Malcolm in the Middle." The authors do a very nice job of taking that initial pair of teleplays for "The Pilot" (by series creator Linwood Boomer) and "Krelboyne Picnic" (by Michael Glouberman & Andrew Orenstein) and turning them into a seamless whole. Thus we are introduced to Malcolm, who is horrified to learn that he is not simply weird but a certifiable genius. This means being untimely ripped from his relatively normal classroom and being sent to the class for the "gifted" students, which is just a way of hiding the fact that everybody in the Krelboyne class is a nerd a freak or possibly both. Malcolm gets off to a bad start with his new classmates and the prospect of a talent show in front of all the parents does not make our hero any happier. Besides, we have not even mentioned Malcolm's parents and his brothers, who are all apparently conspiring to make things even worse.

There has also been a definite effort to clean-up things a bit for the juvenille reader in this first "Malcolm in the Middle" book. For example, we no longer have the litany of past offenses for which Francis was banished to the Marlin Academy in Alabama and Lois greets Ms. Miller wearing a bit more than she actually did in the pilot. Such things are to be expected I suppose. However, . . . I do . . . not think . . . that Stevie . . . ever spoke . . . in bursts . . . of only . . . one word . . . I think . . . he always . . . does two . . . words at . . . a time . . . Although I . . . may be . . . wrong about . . . that. Ultimately this book is an interesting trade off. On the one hand, Mason and Danko have provided a more realistic version of the television show, but on the other hand it is the manic zaniness of this collective of crazed individuals that makes the show so compelling (just think of the opening of the episode shown after the Super Bowl where Hal and Dewey try to get a spider out of the house only to succeed in pitching it out the front door and right into Lois's open mouth). However, there is really no way to capture such inspired lunacy on the printed page, which means the authors made the right choice. Then again, maybe the show has become more surreal as time goes bye and maybe this is something we must remember.

This is the first in what I hope to be many in this series. Linn Random has taken us to the small town of St. Gabrielle, Florida. It is the perfect setting for the contrasting worlds of Sage McCall of chaotic Los Angeles and Police Chief Jon Maddux of peaceful St. Gabrielle, Florida. Sage McCall is on a security assignment with a reality television crew from Hollywood, California. St. Gabrielle is buzzing because Hollywood has graced its presence on them.

However, not everyone is happy to have them in town. Head of Security, Sage McCall and Police Chief Jon Maddux are constantly butting heads over because of the show. They don't see eye-to-eye until the two are thrown into a sultry and intense investigation of passion, longing, and mystery.

This is yet another great novel from Linn Random that will leave you on the edge of your seat and biting your nails until the end. So grab a chaise, a glass of wine, some chocolate and smile for your close up with another Linn Random novel. Cheers!

Sage McCall is providing security for McMasters Studios, who is in Florida taping a new TV show. Things were going along fine until she discovers the body of a member of the production crew and has to call the Police Chief in the middle of the night! They go down hill fast after she finds the second body!

Police Chief Jon Maddux doesn't want the studio people in "his" small town - they bring back too many bad memories of his days as a DEA agent. When he receives a call in the middle of the night about the dead body, it just confirms his suspicions that his peaceful life is over, until they get done filming and get out of town!

Linn Random is one of the best when it comes to combining romance and suspense. I loved Sage and Jon and the "sparks" that flew whenever these two were together! Looking for a good romantic suspense to read? Grab LIGHTS. CAMERA. MURDER! It'll have you begging for more!

LINN RANDOM
Rating 5 stars

Lights, Camera, Murder by Linn Random, is a spine-tingling, suspense filled, sensual romance. This story combines suspense with the most titillating sexual tension between the two main characters that it kept me riveted and at the edge of my seat.

Jon Maddux is the Chief of Police of the small coastal town of St. Gabrielle, Florida. When McMasters Studios decided to film their, popular reality show Murder in Florida, in St. Gabrielle, Jon was opposed. He did not want his small quiet town over run with Hollywood people and for it to become a tourist attraction; well that is, until he has the opportunity to meet Sage McCall the head of security on the production set. Will Jon be able to keep his cold "business only" demeanor? Moreover, will he allow Sage to show him that not all people in the entertainment industry are all bad?

Sage McCall is the head of security on the set of the much-anticipated Reality show Murder in Florida. Sage is one of three daughters of the famous Jack McCall, the owner and founder of a prestige's security firm in Los Angeles. Sage is very aware of the Chief of Police's strong dislike for the production company, and she knows the he tolerates them because he has to. When Sage has to wake him up in the middle of the night to report a murder on the production set, the last thing she expects when Jon walks onto the set is to feel this strong attraction for the gorgeously rugged Chief of Police. Will Sage be able to put aside some of these intense feelings in order to help find the killer?

Linn Random is a wonderfully talented and creative author. Lights, Camera, Murder is a story that begins with a murder on a television production set. It instantly grasps you; then keeps you riveted and guessing as to who the killer is. There is even one point when all clues lead to one person, and you, the reader think, that you got it, well then comes Ms. Random's ingenuity to foil your solution and expose a completely different twist. Ms. Random also has the delicious ability to intertwine a heartwarming love story in the midst of this murder. I am eagerly awaiting the next book in this series; I hope it will be about Mallory McCall, one of Sages sisters. If you, like me love a suspense packed story, with a little romance then this book is for you. You will not be disappointed.

The Lizzie McGuire Movie by Susan Estelle Jansen is an awesome story about one girl that is to clumsy to do anything and then she goes on a trip to Rome and finds out otherwise.

Lizzie is just about to graduate from junior high and she messes up real bad! Her brother tape records it and sends it to Good Morning America. Then she goes on a class trip to Rome and she tells her best friend Gordo that they need to find adventures. Then Lizzie bumps into pop superstar Paolo and she does find adventures. He tells her that she looks just like Isabella the girl he sings with. He tells her his story and she agrees to help him. She becomes Isabella for a couple of days dodging her new principal while doing so. Gordo covers for her and gets himself in tuns of trouble. Read this wonderful story and find out what happens with Lizzie and her singing career and Gordo and Isabella.

The characters really jump out at you. Lizzie is so clumsy and she seems to always fall down. The characters were really believable and the story seemed to be real to me. This book is really hard to put down you always want to know what is going to happen to Lizzie and her friends. You have to pay attention very closely so you aren't lost or confused. The plot is so interesting and the ending will blow you away. I really believe any girl who reads this would want this to happen to them.

I am truly grateful to Douglas E. Harding for this superb book, which is a collection of articles by Douglas over nearly four decades. Every one of these is a gem. Mr. Harding teaches you how to look inward and how you can come to the realisation that what you are really is an infinite capacity for love. The Advaita concept which is not that easy to grasp has been lucidly demonstarted by this articulate sage. This book is a must for any seeker.

Love and best wishes.

Thank you Douglas Harding.
After years of 'see-king' via Buddhism, Taoism, and other 'eastern' concept spiritualites which simply didn't work for me, I now 'see it' and I am so thankful to Doug Harding for saving me years more of endless searching (but not finding).
Jung said eastern spiritualities are not the best vehicle for the western mind and Douglas Harding has proved it.
A couple of important notes:
Note 1: I came across Doug Hardings work a couple of years ago and didn't 'see it' - I have since learnt about nonduality, and now 'see' thanks to Harding - for me, the concept of nonduality was an essential primer (but not the journey).
Note 2: Also indispensable to my 'see-ing' was a visit to Harding's web-site and the viewing of the marvelous films by Richard Lang (available via web site). I hope amazon will include this note in this review because the films were indispensable to my 'arriving at the other side'.
Want to be enlightened today? Than buy this book!

An interesting approach to the duality of experience

At first glance Harding's "headless" approach looks more like a gimmic than a spiritual exercise. Pretending that one has no head seems like something for children to do. Harding's methods help one break through the subject/object duality of experience. All experience begins with the "I" thought. With Harding's headless method the "I" is no longer idenfied with it's customary location in the head but with what one experiences.

I admit I had a hard time with some of his language as there seems to be a slight communication gap (for me anyway) between British and American english. It wasn't until I actually has a headless experience that I saw the profundity of his work. With so many spiritual texts sounding like the other this is truly a unique work and perspective.

mr harding has for half a century traveled the world sharing his view of our ultimate identity. he has also found time to write some great books. this is one of his best. for that matter it is one of THE best. he simplifies the in-seeing into our truest and deepest identity. with that seeing and realization comes a great clarity of who and what and where we really are. you could sit in zazen for 10 yrs or read this book in 3 hrs. either method has a very good chance of helping you know yourself in a truly new and wonderful and freeing way. most problems will shrink into a manageable size once you realize WHO has the problem. most joys will be increased when you see the wonder of their SOURCE. this book is profoundly spiritual without being dogmatic, sectarian, or emotionally icky. there's no superstition here, just a clear sweet insight into WHO you are and what I AM.

This One's A Dandy!

I got bored with books on philosphy and eastern mysticism a few years ago because of the sorry collection usually carried by bookstores. I ordered this one, along with "I Am That" by some Indian chain smoker with an unusually long name, from Amazon and these two books make a great combo.

If you have an interest in philosophy, Buddhism, Advaita, or just someone on a spiritual search of any kind - this book is a must have. I would consider "Look for Yourself" to be in the same vain as Alan Watt's "The Taboo of Knowing Who You Are" & "The Wisdom of Insecurity". It's every bit as intelligent as Watt's writing but more accessable for the the western mind to comprehend. "Look for Yourself" offers clear explainations on exactly HOW you have become disconnected from yourself and also gives you practical advice on returning to the true nature of who you really are that has always been right in front of you.

Someone not familiar with eastern thought might find this book a bit confusing at first. But this book is a great companion for those who already have an understanding of concepts like "emptiness" and "no-mind". It's a shame this book only has five reviews and is so hard to find. It's much better than most of the popular spiritual literature you'll find at your local Barnes & Noble.

This one's a dandy and get's my highest recommendation.

Excellent concepts that can be applicable in any topic or situation. A must buy in you want to have your grips on acturial mathematics and concepts

When I took a job to model prediction of loss reserves for workers compensation insurance, I began to realize that the traditional statistical methods that I generally relied n would not help me (without modification). The required modification would be either to transform variables or to model long-tailed probability distributions. This is because in the insurance business you have to reserve for those big catastrophies. The cost data for workers compensation data generally show a high frequency of low to moderate costs... . However occasionally there are a few cases of sever injury causing permanent disability which could run over 1 million dollars. Even though the probability of occurrence is small the cost is so high that it cannot be ignored. Such claims will surely be found when large insurance company cover millions of employees over many years.
The problem occurs when insuring for floods, earthquakes, fires and other disasters. Stuart Klugman and Bob Hogg in 1984 wrote the first introductory text to acquaint statisticians with such probability models that are important in the insurance business. Other books covering the subject were covered in books on risk theory designed for actuaries. This book covers all the topics and assumes mathematical and staistical knowledge at the level of the book by Hogg and Craig (so some calculus is required).

Mathematics for property and casualty insurance actuaries

"Loss Models from Data to Decision" is an excellent book that covers many of the areas of mathematics and statistics that property and casualty insurance (aka general insurance) actuaries are required to know. Topics include: frequency and severity models; aggregate loss models; ruin models; Bayesian statistics; credibility and simulation. The theory is well explained; with worked examples throughout and numerous exercises at the end of each section (these questions are based on past SOA and CAS exam questions, so are directly relevant to people studying for either of these exams). Solutions to the exercises are not provided in this book, but a separate solutions manual is available.

I am a lecturer in Actuarial Studies at an Australian university and set this book for one of my (later-year undergraduate) units. In my opinion, this is the best General Insurance text book available and students whom I have spoken to tell me that they like this book very much, too. I highly recommend this text for all student actuaries.

In this 5th istalment of the "Love Comes Softly" series Janette Oke continues to take her characters to new levels. Each having their own strengths, weeknesses, and trials. As always a great read and hard to put down. I just want to read from start to finish and start the next book.

Ellie, Clare and Arnie share the Davis Legacy.

Marty and Clark are home from Missy's, and the re-adjustment takes time. Luke has finally left home, studying to become a doctor. Arnie and Anne have married. Nandry is withdrawn and refuses to be a part of the family anymore and Marty is unable to find out why. Clare and Kate are super-anxiously awaiting the birth of their first baby. Are they prepared if things go wrong? Will their faith survive? The LaHayes have decided to visit Willie and Missy in the West, and much to everyone's surprise, they love it! In their absence, we again meet Lane, the humble, trustworthy, handsome young cowboy who works at the Hanging W. Missy and Willy now have three children and Clae and her preacher husband are in the east.

This particular book focuses on Ellie, her strong points and her dreams. She has adequately assumed the role of homemaker and caregiver in spite of the fact she is probably the prettiest, most eligible young woman in the area. Her heart is pure, her motives are right and she is a real blessing to her parents. Will this continue? Or change when she is faced with a life-altering decision? This book makes the reader hurt with Ellie, dream with her, and finally, well, you need to read the book.

There is one major bombshell in this book, but that would spoil it for future readers. Way to go Janette Oke, and keep the books coming in, they are a wonderful escape to a simpler, quieter time. This book ends with the Davis family in awe of passing on UNENDING LEGACIES....not just material, but spiritual as well.

This book was focused on the other children of Marty and Clark.
Very little was mentioned of Missie and Willie, and I didn't know if I would be interested in it. I was!!! I love Ellie and Lane. There were heartbreaking moments, also. Overall, must read again.

I love this series but this is one of my favorite books only because it is so full of fun and surprises. I think that love that Ellie finds is sweet and true. I also love the biggest suprise of all.

Well written, with a multitude of unexpected twists.

This fifth book of Janette Oke's "Love Comes Softly" series continues the story of main characters Clark and Marty Davis. In her dealings with the issues surrounding the family's acceptance of Clark's new handicap and the occurance of other difficult events, Janette Oke gently teaches lessons of faith readers can apply to their own life. Whether describing the emotions of a mother sending her grown children off to fulfill their dreams, or tackling the agonizing question of why God would permit tragedy in the lives of those who serve him, Janette Oke's writing draws the reader into the story and plays those emotions directly upon the strings of the reader's heart. Unlike many lukewarm prarie-era stories, this book does not shy away from unpleasant subjects. Instead it tackles them head on, forcing the reader to grow in his/her own assurance as s/he identifies with the characters in the book, and with their tragedies and triumphs. A must read for anyone who has ever asked the question, "Why, God?"
