I haven't seen this in over 20 years and was thrilled to stumble across a VHS copy of it. Candy and Levy really shine with Flaherty playing a solid Second City back-up. Really funny stuff, despite being dated. Just good old fashioned silly and fun. Sad to have lost Candy so young. He was an all time great. Any John Candy fan should own this film!!!

One of the funniest movies EVER by ANYONE ! NOT ON DVD ???

I dare anyone to keep a straight face throughout this movie!

As one who has seen all of John's work, I was flabbergasted to find this film at, or near the bottom of his film's popularity list. I can only attribute this awsome oversight to the fact that it hasn't been released on DVD. Why? Perhaps the 1984 release date? Or could it be a conspiracy by some "Anti-Candy-ite"? Who knows.

I am one who seldom, if ever, cares to see a film more than once, regardless of how great it might be, but "Going Berserk" changed all that. This non-stop roller coaster ride thru the most bizzare mis-adventure ever to befall human kind, is one I can't get enough of!

I daresay that if ya can't get it on DVD, Buy the VHS, and use that as an excuse to buy a DVD recorder as well!

Although somewhat dated, this is a hilarious film and one of John Candy's best. It is nonstop, madcap humor and slapstick with some funny sexual situations thrown in for good measure. Who can forget the twisted "Father Knows Best" sequences shown to brainwash John Candy's character against his father-in-law Ed Reese? Another memorable and hilarious character is Mohammed Jerome Willy, outlaw, who meets a rather unusual but stimulating demise.

Featuring a stellar cast, this is one movie you'll enjoy watching over and over again.

If you are lucky enough, also record it on TV--there was a different version made for television (cleaned up, of course), but the TV version features different scenes from the theatrical release.

Please release this on DVD!!!

This early John Candy masterpiece is two hours of solid laughter. Ignore the silly plot. The main character (Candy) just goes from one improbable situation to a more improbable one. And they're well-written: You can't really predict what will happen (at least, not the first viewing...). If you like SNL, then this is the equivalent of two hours of SNL-like skits. You just keep laughing. John Candy is magnificent.

Anyone born between 1955 and 1970 HAS GOT TO SEE Dazed and Confused.

And this book adds to the fun. Plenty of real live Mad Magazine stuff, real live ads from the time period, with a bunch of side splittingly funny made up stuff based on the characters from DAC. Enjoyed the heck out of this book. Just wish it was longer so my trip through memory lane could go on another hour or so.

Great stuff! Where's Wooderson today, by the way?

JUST AWESOME - I LOVE THIS BOOK!

It was in a fit of Dazed And Confused mania that I purchased Richard Linklater's tie-in book to his cult classic 70s adolescence movie several years ago. At the time I basically flipped through the book and then put it aside. Until earlier today when I was going through a stack of old college texts I was planning on getting rid of and wonder of wonders came across this one mixed in among them for some reason. So I decided to take a refresher course in 70s stoner adolescence and then offer up my take on it.

What I especially liked about Dazed And Confused the movie was the way Linklater managed to sneak in some profound truths about life amidst the nostalgia. In the book, the most profound and honest part is Linklater's introduction where he writes: "Let's face it, no matter where you live no matter at what time high school is a light prison sentence to be served. Once paroled, you don't look back".

From that point on, any social observation basically goes out the window as we are treated to a crash course in all things 70s as well as stuff related to the movie itself. All of the major characters are profiled and there are excerpts of a yearbook page from the high school they attend. Although it might seem redundant to most people, die hard fans of the film should enjoy it. Pick up a copy! Also recommended -------> The Losers Club by Richard Perez, an offbeat small press novel that you will truly dig. Like far out!

Dazed & Confused is a classic movie about the day in the life of high schoolers in a small Texas town on last day of school in 1976. This book that is a companion to the movie is just like the movie itself: funny. Designed as part high school yearbook, part 70's era teen magazine, it is a nostalgia filled, quick and enjoyable read. There are tons of pictures (the yearbook pictures of the cast are great) and everyone of the major cast member contributes an "article" to the book. If you are a fan of the movie, then this book is a must for your collection.

MUST HAVE FOR ANY "DAZED AND CONFUSED" FAN.

Let me just start by saying that I just bought this book no more than an hour ago. As soon as I got home I picked it up and didn't put it down forr the next hour. As a huge "Dazed and Confused" fan, I was extremely happy when I saw that there was a book to go along with the movie. But the book is not just about the movie. It starts out with a great introduction by the director and writer Richard Linklater. In this intro he explains the time period, the pros and cons of the 70's, and where the idea for the movie came from. Also in the book are synopsis's of all the basic charactar (the best is Clints, the guy who beats up the nerd). This book doesn't just follow along with the movie, it is an explanation of the 1970's, I enjoyed it considering I wasn't alive yet. So if you are a hardcore fan of "Dazed and Confused" or a collector of 70's memorobilia, than you need this book.

I have a 4.5 year old and we bought the Prilla doll and gave her the book with the doll. It's a fun book to sit and read a chapter together and so she gets to "know" her doll and she becomes more real. We liked the book so much my daughter gave her friend a copy for Christmas too! It's not an easy reader book, but it's a book that makes sitting and reading together so much fun, these stories are really good!

What a charming book! It features an engaging story, has some fine artwork and is printed with extra touches that respect its reader. It's sure to delight young girls.

The story tells a gentle lesson about honesty. To avoid having to help her friend Nettle with the boring job of shearing caterpillars, the fairy Prilla tells a white lie and says that she likes butterflies better. This leads to a day of herding butterflies, when everything goes wrong.

The best parts of the story, however, don't come from its plot, but its descriptions of the fairies' day-to-day lives. They use caterpillar fuzz for their clothing and bedding. Every morning, they each get a level teacup of fairy dust, which is "shivery and cool" as it settles on their heads and shoulders.

The book is quality production in every way. The cover shows the redheaded fairy with her wings slightly textured and sprinkled with sparkles. The pages have a nice matte feel, and are sprinkled with intricate and delicate color illustrations.

The Disney Fairies series presents an interesting, lovely fantasy world for young girls to imagine. It's not too sappy sweet, since the fairies do make mistakes and and one of them, Vidia, is a real snip.

I have been looking for this book for months. It's out of print and couldn't buy it because I couldn't remember the author's name and there were many books withthe same title, but no description of the plot. So here goes some help. It is the story of Marla Crandall and Eric Westbrook. They team up to separate two lovebirds who happen to be her mother and his younger brother. What they don't know it's that they are going to fall for each other....Very good storyline and characters development for a romance novel. No inconsistencies at all (which I don't stand)

I am a first year mature age medical student with a bit of biochemistry under my belt and with several other degrees completed in the past. I have read through dozens of weighty tomes in my lifetime and this is one of the best I have come across in any discipline.
This book goes into more detail than is perhaps required in first year medicine. However, I found it worth trying to read through because I find biochem one of those subjects where its difficult to just have a simplified explanation of things, sometimes the gaps in a simplified text mean nothing makes sense at all. In that case you may as well have put in the extra time to get the full story.
I found this book well laid out with excellent diagrams that sum up important relationships in biochem in a very accessible way. Unlike some review format books this one maintained a thread of explanation and I did not find myself becoming lost despite the complexity of the subject.
In all one of the best laid out effective, and clear textbooks Ive ever come across in many years of studies.

Im studying medicine and my proffesor recomended the Harper`s Illusrated biochemistry from Lange. This is a very detailed book with a scientific language, withOUT too many explenations for beginners in this subject. Therefore my and my fellow classmates found this Lippincot book to be far better. One of the things I always appreciate in this kinds of books is if the index is large and easy to use and of course that I find what I am looking for. And Lippincot`s index is good.

This book is very good about applying biochemistry to clinical settings. It is very easy to read also. Although sufficient for my biochem class, it may not get deep enough for other biochem classes. If you are in a master's program for biochem it probably isn't sufficient.

Disclaimer: I am writing this review from the point of view of a first year medical student, having taken a fairly detailed course in undergrad biochemistry.

Having said that, I find Lippincott's Illustrated Biochemistry one of the best books written on the subject. The main advantage of using Lippincott's is in its concise and clear language. It explains almost everything you need to know about medical biochemistry in a very easy to understand language, with the help of some great illustrations. I absolutely love the chapter summaries and the concept maps at the end of the chapter - very useful for a quick review. Highly recommended for a medical students!

I'll preface this by saying I'm not in med school or even in the medical field. I took a year of Chemistry for freshmen engineering and a graduate biomedical engineering course but never Organic Chem or any level of Biology. I bought this book to give me a better understanding metabolism hoping to provide me with unbiased information I could use to tailor my diet and for a quick sanity check of my suppliment use.

On metabolism, I certainly feel like I have a better, truer understanding of my body's different modes of operation specifically the role each part plays, especially the liver. I haven't seen the cycles presented in this book elseware, mind you I haven't been looking too hard either.

As to my diet, the section on the feed/fast cycles reinforced my belief that more frequent smaller meals are the way to go. I've reduced my protein intake based on the information about the Amino Acid pool and how anything not used is excreated.

For suppliments I've actually increased my use. I re-introduced creatine based on the section which shows how it is used to turn ADP back into ATP and also began taking Alpha Lipoic Acid again. I am continuing my use of Glutamine and I've added Arginine and Acetyl L-Carnitine.

Will any of this help? Who knows, but if nothing else it'll keep me interested and motivated.

I bought the widescreen version of the DVD and have no complaints. For the most part, all I look for in my DVDs is a quality picture, widescreen and/or the choice of it. I don't necessarily buy for the extras, which didn't come with my early generation wide-screen version of "The Jerk," one of those movies that never gets old. That applies only to the unedited version of course. The successful formula for this movie has been imitated, but never duplicated. Martin was at his comedic peak when this movie came out, and that's obvious throughout The Jerk. And perhaps my favorite female celebrity (yeah, yeah. I get lots of slack for that) of all time, Bernadette Peters plays Martin's love interest, perfectly setting up Martin's unique sense of humor throughout the movie. There are times I merely scroll through the movie just to watch her scenes. Complete infatuation. The whole ensemble in this movie is perfectly cast, as they deliver regardless of amount of camera time. The funniest scenes are gutbusters, many of them embedded in pop culture history. I lost count of how many times we quoted scenes from this movie whenever the opportunity presented itself, often in a drunken delight I'll admit. There's never a moment in this movie where you didn't drink your beverage carefully for fear of spitting it out in sudden subtle, or explicit hilarious moment, and many of those moments have aged well. It's shame Martin has become so reluctant to doing comedic material and given us more paternal roles as years haver rolled by, though it's understandable that he'd stretch himself out. And to be fair, Martin comedies that followed were hit and miss for the most part. They all paled by comparison to the gold standard set by The Jerk. And if that's all you're asking from you're DVD, you'll be more than happy. If you want more extras, I've seen several versions of this since I bought mine varying in content.

I owned the 1999 DVD release of the Jerk (1.33:1 Aspect Ratio) and this 26th year anniversary is nothing but a wide screen pan and scan of this version. If it wasn't for the fact that I rented this movie and didn't buy it I would of been trying to find out who the fool at Universal decided to make this decision.

I haven't seen the HD version but I wouldn't be surprise if universal utilized the 1.33:1 DVD and just pan scan with wide screen to resell it.

For those that own this Anniversary Issue, I would seek a refund from Universal. They should write everyone a check by hand, just like Nathan Johnson had to do in the movie.

Deception is deceptively good. Not great, but good. If you were to offer me a novel framed as a diary of a vain, whiny, pathetic and ineffective protagonist, I'd say forget it! But I took a chance with Denise Mina whose highly-praised novels I'd not read before, and I'm glad I did.

When psychiatrist Dr. Susan Harriot is convicted of murdering her patient, Andrew Gow, husband Lachlan frantically searches for proof of her innocence amongst her papers and computer files in her home office. Gow was a self-confessed serial rapist-killer whose modus operandi was eerily duplicated on two other victims while he was in prison. This and Gow's insistence on his innocence and that the confession was made under duress result in his release. Shortly after, he is found murdered and his new wife, Donna, has vanished, presumed dead as well. Prosecution contended that Susie had been having an affair with Gow, and in a fit of rage over being passed over for Donna, had killed him. Lachlan doesn't believe any of it. He knows his Susie. Or does he?

Deception is a story not just of murder, but of a marriage in peril and what we choose (or not) to divulge to those we're most intimate with. As he realizes how little he knows his wife, Lachlan writes: "It seems all we learned to do during our marriage is not talk." Susie kept her secrets well, so well that if Lachlan doesn't discover them his wife will languish in prison for life.

I will admit the diary format with the inclusion of transcripts, clippings, reports, etc. can be rather tiresome. After about 200 pages of it, my mind was wandering. Lachlan writes about everything--the incremental discoveries he makes (which are critical to the story) and the minutiae of his everyday life since Susie was convicted. I suppose the steady stream of consciousness ramblings lost its novelty for me after 30 chapters. The last few chapters were, however, the meat of the story and I devoured them in short order. The ending was fantastic and the resolution satisfying. There are some humorous bits as well which I thought were caustically hilarious. Altogether, a satistactory read.

I found myself wanting more, wanting to know what happened between Lachee and Yenni. Wanting to Know what more happens to Suise. I am really sad That I do not know! It might sound crazy, but the Author really drags you into these lives and makes you want to be apart of them. I loved this book.

Denise Mina is an exceptionally talented writer. She spins an interesting yarn, told from the perspective of the husband of a convicted killer. There's plenty going on here. My one complaint is that half the book felt like prologue. The quality of the writing makes that easy to endure. A hilarious voice in spots, and an intelligent premise. Reminded me of Barney's Version, by Mordechai Richler. Another good read, if you like this one.

'Deception' (marketed as 'Sanctum' in the UK) is an engrossing mystery.

Lachlan Harriot is seeking evidence of his wife Susie's innocence following her conviction for the murder or a paroled serial killer who had been under her psychiatric care.

In Susie's home office, which Lachlan has previously been forbidden to enter, he discovers a disturbing documentary history: transcripts of conversations, photographs, letters and files.

What is the truth? And who, utimately, survives?

While this is Denise Mina's fourth novel,it is only the second I have read. I am keen to read the rest.
