My 3-year-old always selects this book as one of the 5 books we read each night before bedtime. The illustrations are beautiful and colorful and the story is well-written without being too long and drawn out.

My son loves books, but has a short attention span (as 3-year-olds do) and has, in the past, preferred books with only a sentence or two on each page. The Rooftop Rocket Party is so engaging that he pays close attention to the story, even though there are several small paragraphs on some pages, and asks a lot of questions about what's going on. There are enough fun characters and memorable lines that we act out parts when we read it together. We borrowed this from the library but he loves it so much I will have to buy it for him!

Young children love it.

My two-year old son asks for this book all the time. He likes the pictures and the story and has now started noticing "rooftop rockets" on buildings. An exceptional, imaginative, intelligent book.

Beautiful, whimsical pictures, a strong, sympathetic hero and a charming, inventive tale about science and imagination make this a wondeful book for children, and a lot of fun for adults! The Man in the Moon playing his pale violin will become an icon for those who read this as children - this has the makings of a classic.

A great humorus book. All children would understand the logic behind the events that occur. To hear all of the characters say "No I won't. Why should I", Gave the book a good sense of childish humor. Makes a great sequencing activity for students.

Children will love the event series as one event leads into another. The pictures are very beautiful and colorful. This is a story that children of all ages will want to read again and again

This book is for Sinatra fans. It has a wealth of information on the singers friends, life, and has everything the man has done in this entertainment world. The only problem I have is with the reviews about his music. The writer gives too much criticism about the cds and I dont think there is more then a few that the author like as a complete album. I enjoy Sinatra and have mostly everything the guy has recorded (Harry James, Tommy Dorsey, Colombia, Captial, Reprise) and I know he has a few crappy songs out there. This guy just disects everything and it gets annoying to read after a few albums.

As I read on, I have a problem with Chris Ingham. His book is probably the ultimate Sinatra book with all this information. It seems though that after the 60's, Ingham has nothing good to say about Sinatra. I got mad reading the book because I can not find any good words about Sinatra after the 60's

A SUPERB SINATRA BOOK!!

I certainly agree with the reviewer, C. Hanlon "frankie-machine." I've
followed Mr. Sinatra's stellar career since 1949 and this little book
gives the reader tremendous insight into the greatest singer/entertainer
of the twentieth century! The music section will provide the collector
with a checklist of 99% of Sinatra's commercially released studio
recordings. The author, Chris Ingham, has done a very good job of
providing us a glimpse of 'Ol Blue Eyes and his tremendous body of work!
The songs, the films, the style! It's all here! Buy this little gem!

The Rough Guide to Frank Sinatra is a small book that manages to be over 400 pages long, and is packed with loads of information on Frank Sinatra. Each album and film is reviewed, and from a fresh and interesting perspective, by British writer, Chris Ingham. And that's not even a third of the book! There are also all sorts of great pictures, interesting chapters, tidbits of info, and I highly recommend this book to both novice and expert Sinatra lovers!! It is a fun, informative read, small enough to take with you everywhere you go, yet bursting with info!

This was a great book especially for young girls. It tells the story of a female hero and all her adventures. Even after marrying Davy Crockett, one of the most famous folk hero's, Sally Ann remains independent and the greatest hero in the book. I highly recomend it to anyone, especially those interested in folk tales.

This Bible is so beautifully made! I do enjoy the fact that it lays open easily anywhere you are reading. It would be a bit heavy to carry to church, but is a lovely, exquisitely made Bible for study at home! And such information!! Maps pertaining to the subject are scattered throughout the scriptures with larger, more detailed color maps in the back. Maps are so helpful. I have a fondness for the KJV translation and appreciate the foot notes along the side of the text. I'm very happy with my purchase!! I highly recommend this Study Bible!!!

A look behind the myths and legends, Lee's groundbreaking book relied on extensive interviews with the women who sought and obtained abortions -- legal, illegal, quasi-legal, and self-induced -- in the days before legalization. Lee examines the factors that led women to choose abortion, the means by which they found an abortionist, and their attitudes toward their experiences. This book is a must read for prochoice and prolife alike.

It's perfect for my toddler, who delights in funny sounds of all kinds. The book brings our kids' favorite sounds to a new level. It's very artfully done. We read this book several times a day and it continues to captivate my daughter. A great choice!

Embracing simple sequential storytelling, strong graphic design, and the inexplicable joy of onomatopoeia, "Sounds Funny!" is a board book that's sure to keep little ones entertained. Like all good comics, the book works on two levels - the Liechtenstein style artwork is visually engaging, but beneath it lays the rudiments of cause and effect that help stimulate young minds in their early stages of development.

SPC Simplified came along at just the right time. I needed help developing statistical analysis that I could interpret to upper management. I used this text to assist me in constructing my first run charts, variance analysis, error analysis, root cause analysis, brainstorming session and my first Process Cause and Effect Analysis. Great job. A good buy for anyone in Performance Improvement.

Makes SPC easy and accessible to anyone

Review Date: 2001-02-18
SPC is one of the most powerful tools available to any organization or workgroup that wants to implement continuous improvement. Unfortunately, it is not widely used outside of manufacturing or companies that are committed to quality. One of the reasons is that is perceived to be difficult to learn. This wonderful book changes that by introducing statistical process controls in a clear, gentle manner.

The book is divided into modules, each of which builds upon the preceding one, and can be used as a training text or as a self-study guide. The first module covers the basics: causes of variation, tools (historgrams, control charts, variable and attribute charts).

Modules 3 and 4 go deeper into the tools, explaining why you would use them, how to use them and how to interpret them. This is the heart of the book.

Machine and process capability, the subject of module 5, can be applied beyond the shop floor. For example, I work as an information technology consultant and was able to apply the knowledge from this module to project estimation and controls, service level measurement and quality assurance processes. This information is also applicable to other areas and will be useful to anyone who works at a company registered as ISO-9000.

Module 5 covers all of the common quality problem-solving tools ranging from brainstorming to scatter diagrams. IT consultants and practitioners will find the sections on cause and effect diagrams and Pareto analysis useful for process improvement for defect identification and removal, and other related objectives.

Elements of a TQM system covered in module 8 may have been better placed in module 1, but it is thorough and a good starting point for anyone who is new to quality.

This book finishes with a module that provides the answers and solutions to practice problems from the preceding modules, which underscores its value as a class test or self-study guide.

I recommend this book to associates who either have never heard of SPC (and there are a lot of them) or think it is beyond their ability to grasp. It is impossible to have a viable, effective program of continuous improvement without SPC. The authors have done a remarkable job of writing a book that lives up to its title by simplifying SPC. As such they have made an important contribution to quality by making this effective tool available to anyone who will take the time to read the book and apply what they learn.

From the SQUEEEEEEAK of the door to the WAAAAAHs and WOOFs and OINKs - it''s impossible for the kids to refrain from joining in the telling of this tale. Wonderful illustrations tell more of the story than is written in the text. I highly recommend this book.

The Door May Squeak, but the Book Sings!
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2007-12-20
I admit to being astonished that no one's done a review of this marvelous picture book yet. The Squeaky Door is a delightful addition to the collection of folktales from around the world that have been put into picture book form by the remarkable Margaret Read MacDonald. It is also one of the best read-alouds I have discovered this year. Ms. MacDonald is a storyteller and folklorist as well as an author, and many of her stories come from those she has heard and told over the years.

The framework of the tale is simple. Little Boy is staying over Grandmas, and gets to sleep in the big brass bed by himself. But all it takes is aformentioned squeaky door to ruin a good night's sleep. Grandma tries to help by bringing various animals in to stay in the bed with him. First the cat, then the dog, then the pig and finally, the horse. This growing menagerie finally overloads the bed--and it breaks. And Grandma finally takes care of that squeaky door. What makes this work so well, is the magic of the words. Everything is written to be read aloud and easily falls into a rythym that the audience will catch onto quickly. Most lines are repeated several times throughout the book, guaranteeing that children can join in with the words after the first or second repetition. As the title says, the book sings--even a reader not particularly adept at reading books aloud should be able to read this without too much trouble. The words remain fairly simple, and the story straight forward, but hilarious. It's a good read for children 3 to 6 years old. For older children, the best approach may be asking them to join in on Little Boy's responses to Grandma each time.

Then there are the pictures created by Mary Newell DePalma. The pictures are crafted to complement the text, with smaller images being placed on the pages with text and full page illustrations used for the sound effects of the door squeaking or the noises of Little Boy and the various animals. The illustrations for the door squeak gradually get larger and larger until they overtake the entire two page spread by the end. The pictures really add to the overall mood of the story and the hilarity of so many animals in the bed with Little Boy. While a large audience will appreciate what's going on, they may miss some of the more amusing details that an up close read reveal. My particular favorite is the cat tucked into bed with an eye mask on, but the horse in pyjamas is worth a chuckle too. Overall, this is a book with images that can work for a large audience, but can offer a one-on-one reader the advantage of discoveries with closer inspection.

For parents, librarians and teachers with young children to read to, I can't recommend this book highly enough. It is likely best for the 3 to 6 age group as it's a bit long for younger children and may not keep the attention of older children as well. If you like this picture book, you may want to check out "Little Rooster's Diamond Button" and "Tunjur! Tunjur! Tunjur!" also folktales retold by Margaret Read MacDonald. Here's hoping this book finds it's way into many bookshelves in the future!

Happy Reading!^_^ Shanshad
