I've read Elvis and me probably about 7 times and I never get tired of listening to this love story. Elvis by the Presley's was very interesting and I finished it in one night. I am also going to buy the dvd version and encourage anyone interested in Elvis' family life to do the same.

Priscilla Presley is best known as the 14 year old girl that Elvis met and became infatuated with when he was in the army in Germany. She ended up living with him in Memphis and marrying him when she was 21. Six years later they were divorced but stayed friends to bring up their daughter Lisa Marie. Priscilla went on to become a well known TV and film actress and the woman who saved the Presley estate from near bankruptcy. This book could be an exploration about the author's life both pre- and post-Elvis and about the difficulties of living with such a well known name. Recommended.

Good, but Jerry Schilling is missing from this book...

This book is a very good companion to the DVD set. I enjoyed both and felt I got to know lots more about Elvis and Priscilla (a talented and charismatic woman in her own right). However, I was wondering why there is so much of the excellent Jerry Schilling in the "Elvis by the Presleys" DVDs and nothing from, or about, Jerry in this companion book. Jerry was clearly a great and devoted friend to Elvis for so many years and he is mysteriously missing from this book -- even in epidodes which we know he was involved in (as he tells the stories himself in the DVD's). Most notable of these episodes is Jerry's relating of the time that he and Elvis went to see President Nixon at the White House so that Elvis could volunteer his services to combat drug abuse. Jerry tells the story so well in the DVD, yet his presence at this event is omitted in the book. Priscilla fans will be delighted by a fascinating photo of a long letter written by the teenaged Priscilla to Elvis from Germany when she was about age 16. Anyone who reads it can never believe any of the nonsense out there about Priscilla's parents wanting or encouraging her to live with Elvis at such a young age. The letter makes it clear that she is most determined to do this despite strong resistance by her father (especially) but she intends to persevere until she convinces him to let her leave Germany and finish high school in Memphis. All in all, the "Elvis by the Presleys" book and DVD set are highly enjoyable for the true Elvis fan.

Fairly interesting. Some side stories from family members & friends some photos that weren't very interesting (photos of everyday objects with no real importance to the story of Elvis). Funny that they focus so much on his spiritual side, considering that they are into the "Church of Sciencetology" (or however you spell it). Can't imagine anyone being serious about that group. But it makes me wonder how Elvis would have felt if he'd known about his ex involving his daughter in such a group. I hope on some level these women believe in something other than aliens conjured up by some science - fiction writer. Anyway I just thought it was funny that these two would focus so much on that side of his personality. The book was ok but not as interesting as I thought it would be when I ordered .

As an Elvis fan, I have read a great number of books about Elvis and his life. What makes this book stand out from the others is the fact that the reader gets a good look at how Elvis Presley, the person has grown into Elvis Presley Enterprises, the money-maker. It is well known by now that Colonel Tom Parker hindered Elvis' career in many ways. Even though he helped Elvis make it to the top, Elvis had the sheer talent to make it with or without Parker. In this book, it is revealed how much Parker actually took from Elvis in the monetary sense. When Elvis died, his estate was nearly bankrupt due to his lavish spending and poor management of his money. But as you realize when you read this book, Elvis Presley Enterprises has gone to great lengths to make it the money machine it is today. O'Neal gives details on lawsuits EPE has won and lost and tells you of some of the future plans EPE has in store. There is also a chapter on Elvis' only heir, Lisa Marie and there is a detailed account of her inheritance as well as the "relationship" with Michael Jackson. I would recommend this book to anyone, Elvis fan or not. Every page had something interesting and new and I found it hard to put down.

ELVIS INC. is one-stop shopping for anything to do with Elvis and money. All but the first chapter deal with events after Elvis' death. Especially good are the sections on the estate's lawsuit against manager Parker in the early 1980s, and on the stratospheric rise of Graceland after near-bankruptcy in the two years after Elvis died. There is more detail in this book on these subjects than I have seen anywhere else. Toward the end I did feel that the book loses a little focus, and is not quite as pertinent as the first half. As, O'Neal goes off on some tangents, such as the marriage of Lisa Marie to Michael Jackson. To be fair, though, more recent events are just not as salient. But O'Neal keeps it always interesting. And I love that pink cover - groovy, man!

I have always been one that was intrigued by Lisa Marie Presley. Probably because the media spotlight has always been on her and her story has always been so mysterious. The only thing that anyone new about her was what the media has said, and some parts of the book address that. The book takes it's information through interviews and other books (about the Presley's). The only thing that would be better is if LMP would write an autobiography, but maybe a few more scandals and mishaps later, she might. But it is definitely an entertaining read, showing a side of Lisa Marie that isn't seen that often. Definitely a page-turner.

I only saw this book offered once for sale. It was in a full-page ad in a tabloid during 1998. I was heartbroken I didn't have the money to purchase the book back then, and I finally obtained it recently -- thanks to Amazon.com. It is an easy read - a book you simply cannot put down.

I don't understand why people are so disbelieving about this young woman and her plight to be reinstated back into her own family. With Elvis' vast wealth, how is it not even remotely possible that Lisa Marie was transported to Sweden? Elvis had withstood all sorts of threats, and no doubt, he received many threats with regard to the potential kidnapping and harming of his beloved daughter. Of course he would wish to tuck her away, out of sight, in order to keep her from danger. It doesn't sound very far-fetched to me.

Lisa Johansen knows way too much, in terms of tiny, minute details, for her book not to be based upon fact. While everybody is entitled to their own opinions, I cannot imagine anybody would go to such lengths to want to go to the bother of writing such a book, let alone being able to compile such a manuscript.

I HIGHLY recommend this book and I have Amazon.com to thank.

Its amazing the nutjobs out their as this author is. The fbi arrested her can't really remember the exact charges but I assume it was for identity theft or something similar. Just look at this mental case's website (I think by now it has been taken down) but the person that you see in that website looks nothing like Elvis Presley or Priscilla Presley, just has a nutty tale that is so out there how on earth could it be true?? Maybe Lisa Johansen should get together with that doctor that claimed in 2003 that he was treating Elvis, saying he was alive and living in Missouri. That doctor was also arrested for fraud. This book isnt worth the paper its printed on don't be fooled
