V.S. Naipaul is arguably the greatest author of our time. Yet although a world traveler and a master conversationalist, he is reserved and enigmatic -- a hard man to get to know. Professor Jussawalla's book compiles interviews with Naipaul that date back to the '60s, shedding light on his personal as well as literary progress. This is 'must' reading for anyone with a serious interest in V.S. Naipaul.

This sits on my shelf next to another book I use for inspiration. I reach for this when I'm tired, or frustrated, and I re-connect with one of the most wonderful women this county ever knew.

I just finished reading this book. I could not have read this book at more important time. I have been serving as a senior pastor for two years now. It's as if John Chandler has been reading my mail. From the opening thoughts on listening, being patient, and having courage this book had me. These days of restructuring as a pastor have been weary, and at times painful. This book encouraged me. It opened up several more questions I have yet to ask, and the interviews affirmed I am on the right road. Thank you for putting a book like this together. It has breathed some inspiration and courage into my heart again. Round 10 (ding! ding!). Thanks for being an amazing encourager and a leader!

This is an utterly fascinating book, written by someone who has been watching television for more than 40 years. In that time, he has interviewed just about EVERYBODY in the business. So, if you're in the business, or want to GET in the business, or just have a fascination with the producers, directors, writers AND stars, get this book. You won't be disappointed.

I'm intrigued by the variety of people Bob Kubey has chosen for this book.

This can be nothing but a valuable resource to all who study media and television.

(Please excuse my bad English: I'm a normally French Writer) As Historian writing a thesis about the Historical meaning of several peoples in the all World, I was very excited by the reading of interviews and documents concerning so much essential filmmakers from US, from EUROPE, from Asia, etc... It's very important for a searcher on movies historical interpretation to find so powerfull texts about directors and other filmmakers - out of the Studio era and influence. I will write more after having read the entire book I received by mail just today. But I confirm just now it's a capital contribution for my future University Thesis. Months of writing my thesis and reading these dense theorists, it is so helpful to read them in a more converstational way. These interviews really add a much needed presective to their theoroes and the ideologies of writing in general.

"Crititical Vehicles" by Wodiczko is an excellent book to become familiar with this very exciting polish artist, now living in New York. Wodiczko is an interesting artist that crosses several catagories; sculpture, multimedia, industrial design, video, projection, performance art, and funtional devices. This book covers Wodiczko's work from the early start of his career and up to late nineties. It explaines in depht what the artist are trying to achieve, why he his doing it, and with which methodes. Wodiczko is a thinker and a well-reflected man. In this book not just will the reader have the pleasure of seeing Wodiczko's art, and the details of each project, but most of all, the reader gets to know Wodiczko's reflections and critical thoughts of our soceity today. I found his arguments refreshing, thought provoking and pleasurably challenging.

Interviews are a very rare genre in literary criticism. However, Salusinszky created an astounding gathering of the top critics in the U.S. The book is not based necessarily on individual interviews, because the points of view of one critic about the others are included. This, of course, allows a clear, direct source on the opinions that Said has on Bloom or Lentricchia on Hartman. A must have for anybody looking for a comprehensive and personal approach to contemporary critics.

What a wonderful book!! Ricoeur talks about his life, his journey through philosophy, his thoughts, feelings and much more. He talks about his encounters with some of our centuries great philosophers, such as Heidegger, Jaspers, Marcel and Gadamer. From his childhood to his experience as a prisioner during W.W.II; talks about his teaching years in both Europe and USA (he makes an excelent analysis of the two cultures). A must read for anyone interested in philosophy, ethics, history, phenomenology, psychanalysis, religion, art, education, politics, european and american culture. A great introduction to his work and life. Very pleasant book. I highly recomend it!!
