An Enjoyable Mystery

I wonder what hasn't already been said in over 500 previous reviews, but here's my cent-and-a-half: This is my first exposure to this author and I found myself quite involved with the story by the time I got 75 % of the book read. Stephanie Plum is a very down-to-earth, likable character, and Janet Evanovich seems to have quite a knack for steering the reader's affection for the other characters as she chooses, thereby setting up an effective who-dunnit.
This book was very interesting and fun to read. By appealing to the reader's desire for a just and orderly world, Janet wraps up the story with an appetizing dessert. The story is comical, occasionally absurd, and easy to follow. If you're searching for deep philosophical messages, however, look elsewhere.

VERY QUICK, INTERESTING AND OFTEN FUNNY READ...

I liked the wise-cracking main character and I'm very happy that I started reading this series from the beginning. I definitely look forward to reading the entire series. One aspect of the book that's interesting reading in 2008, the book was written in 1994, is that you can anticipate the growth in the story-lines as Stephanie (the main character) incorporates more technology and modern conventions in her crime solving.

As for the book I really enjoyed the writing style and story-line. Although there were quite a few implausible plot-points they didn't detract from the entertainment value of this book at all. I was surprised at the number of times that I caught myself laughing out loud at the reactions that Stephanie has to the different situations that she's in from family matters to being poor to learning how to be a bounty hunter. I would recommend this to anyone who wanted a fun, quick read with a good story attached to it.

A cute, page-turning, easy read

After having this book recommended to me by, well, everyone, I decided to give it a chance. I must admit, I wasn't very interested with the description of the book (I'm not for the cute heroine-types) but I found the book to be very interesting. Despite what many of the reviews on here say, there actually is a plot, and something seems to be happening in every chapter that makes it such a page-turner.

The disrespect towards women that some reviewers describe is definitely there (and upsetting) but isn't that what books are supposed to do? Give us a look into what can truly exist? Though Plum isn't the smartest lady, she does pretty well for the situation she is in and it's clear that she wants to learn as much as she can.

I started book two right after I finished one, and am looking forward to reading more. The best thing about this book is that there is a series to continue to enjoy! :)

I'm hooked!

One For The Money was such a delightful book, that we had to purchase five more titles in this series.. we will then have to find the remaining Number books in this series.
I recommend that you start with One For The Money and then proceed without haste to finish the series. I'm planning on doing this.

I would have liked to have known the difference between abridged and unabridged. Otherwise, all was great. I received the product in minimum time and was satisfied.

Highly recommend!

Janet Evanovich writes another humorous, plot driven tale with excellent character development. Stephanie and Joe team-up to find the latter's cousin who is accused of murdring his best friend. Yet Kenny proves difficult to find. Grandma Mazur and Stephanie have some hilarious adventures tracking down the allusive cousin through the funeral homes. Some may say Two for the Dough isn't as funny as One for the Money One for the Money (Stephanie Plum, No. 1) and funnier than Three to Get Deadly Three to Get Deadly (Stephanie Plum, No. 3)), but I say this is a great trilogy worth read reading. Highly recommend!

Stephanie's still learning...

Likes:
'Two for the Dough' was a fast-paced, exciting read. There was not one boring section in the entire book. Grandma Mazur and the rest of Stephanie's family is hilarious and I liked how they were a lot more involved in this book than they were in the first book. Grandma Mazur even helps Stephanie with catching Kenny Mancuso. Stephanie is still learning the trade of being a bounty hunter and 'Two for the Dough' is filled with laugh-out-loud moments of her trying hard to be a good bounty hunter but completely failing. Even though she still needs the help of Joe Morelli and isn't ready to work on her own yet, you can see that she is getting better and has improved since the first book.

Dislikes:
Ranger and Eddie Gazarra were almost nonexistent. Ranger wasn't involved in the story at all. In fact, if I remember correctly he was only in about 2 scenes in the entire book. Eddie was maybe in 1. I expected Ranger to play a big role in catching Kenny Mancuso.

This Stephanie Plum book was just like the others, great! I thought it started out a little slow, but it definitley picked up and had a great ending. Don't give up on it for the first half, it is worth the read. I purchased the next 3 in a boxed set, can't wait to keep reading!

Easy reader. Stephanie is a likeable, believable character. The story itself is a bit crazy and unbelievable, and it is really less of a mystery per se and more of a crime story. Take it for what it is.

I love Janet Evanovich! Funny, quirky, and believable characters. This book is no exception. The only thing I don't like is the OCCASIONAL rough language. However, for me, the good outweighs the bad BIG TIME.

I love the Stephanie Plum series of novels. I really hate reading so I purchase them both in audio for me and paperback for houseguests and friends. I'm drawn in with the excitment and adventure of the story that Janet seems to capture in every novel. It has twists, turns, Lula, mystery, wonder, and of course two very "HOT" men! Who wouldn't want a mix of both men. :} I would recommend the "Plum" series, her "Full" series, as well as her earlier novels of mixed titles. They're all great fun and keep you as a reader at the edge of your seat waiting to see if a cars going to get blown up, who's died this week, who attends the pot roast dinner, who she sleeps with next, what will burn down next, and will she get her man (love or bounty). I hope you enjoy them as much as I have. I look forward to #14 in the "Plum" series, the next "Full" novel, and the new novel Janet recently wrote with a new author being released this October. Thank you!

Not really impressed

After enjoying the first two Stephanie Plum stories, I eagerly jumped into this one. It did not meet expectations. It was just not believable. Stephanie continues to make the kinds of mistakes that you would think she would learn from by now. And while I was able to laugh at the irreverence of the earlier books, I agree with others who said this book was a bit TOO crude. I am undecided as to whether to move onto the 4th.
