One For The Money was such a delightful book, that we had to purchase five more titles in this series.. we will then have to find the remaining Number books in this series.
I recommend that you start with One For The Money and then proceed without haste to finish the series. I'm planning on doing this.

Wanted to love it but...

This is another one of those books I wanted to badly to love and cheer about. Unfortunately, I was so put off by the flippant way the author portrayed a six year old being molested that I found myself unable to enjoy the rest of the book. The character lost my interest, and I found her actions predictable and juvenile. I am one who can willingly suspend belief for the sake of a good plot, but the idea that anyone could just become a bounty hunter overnight without any training (or brains) just didn't work for me. There were some humorous parts but they were not enough to earn more than two stars from me.

Enjoyable

In ONE FOR THE MONEY, Stephanie Plum is out of work, out of money, and out of choices. Six months behind on her Miata payments, she begs a repo man to give her until the morning before he confiscates her car. It's that or be stuck at her parents' house all night. Given the reprieve, she scrounges enough cash, along with a few kitchen appliances, to buy a Nova that lives up to the meaning of its Spanish name. If that isn't humiliating enough, she is forced to beg a job from her cousin Vinnie as a bounty hunter. With no experience, she stumbles into her new profession.

I've heard about these books for several years. Although there were sections that were a little thick to wade through, this was an enjoyable read. The characters were great and well drawn. I laughed out loud several times and gasped when a few things occurred that were unexpected.

Miss Evanovich's writing style is enjoyable and easy to read, very similar to another author that I enjoy a great deal. I love the side comments that Stephanie gives. It helps the reader connect to the character. The setting and situations are very believable with secondary characters that are a riot. Gotta love grandma.

Overall... This was a very good read.

"One for the Money" is the first Stephanie Plum novel by Janet Evanovich. I had read many reviews for the Plum series but many sounded like it was geared mainly toward women readers, but I enjoyed it much more than I expected. Stephanie Plum, a thirty year old woman who has lost her job and sold off most of her personal belongings, goes to work as a bounty hunter for her cousin Vinnie who is a bail bondsmen. By blackmail, she gets a case that would pay her $10,000 for bringing in Joe Morelli, a cop who is charged with murder. Morelli was also one of Stephanie's former lovers who took her virginity. This novel is funny and I really enjoyed reading it and will continue to read this series that is up to number Thirteen at the moment.

Janet Evanovich writes another humorous, plot driven tale with excellent character development. Stephanie and Joe team-up to find the latter's cousin who is accused of murdring his best friend. Yet Kenny proves difficult to find. Grandma Mazur and Stephanie have some hilarious adventures tracking down the allusive cousin through the funeral homes. Some may say Two for the Dough isn't as funny as One for the Money One for the Money (Stephanie Plum, No. 1) and funnier than Three to Get Deadly Three to Get Deadly (Stephanie Plum, No. 3)), but I say this is a great trilogy worth read reading. Highly recommend!

TWO FOR THE DOUGH by Janet Evanovich
In Janet Evanovich's TWO FOR THE DOUGH, Stephanie Plumb is staking out funeral homes and discovering detached body parts. Her latest bounty: Kenny Mancuso, Joe Morelli's cousin. She'll have to decide if Joe's loyalties are to his family or to the law.

I liked seeing the characters once more and couldn't wait to get to know them better. But by the time I finished the book, I didn't feel like I knew them any more than when I started reading. There was limited action and suspense and when the third body part showed up, I rolled my eyes and put down the book. From listening to other readers, I'm aware that there is a love triangle with the main character's but at this point in the series, I didn't feel any chemistry between Joe and Stephanie.

Oh, well, I did give the series a try with two books.

Decent for what it is. Don't expect to build your word power. Grandma gets the laughs, and the heroine is a believable character you could have gone to high school with, only you ended up with job X and she ended up a bounty hunter. A decent beach read. Probably should read these Stephanie Plum books in sequence.

Imagine your favorite TV sitcom. Now imagine reading it instead of seeing it on the tube. That's this book and the rest of the series.
I can't imagine why this hasn't already gone into production, especially now during the writers' strike--no adaptation is needed.

This is not a slam against the book--it is what it is!

I never liked the sound of this series. The only way I picked it up is through a friend. All I can say is better late than never. If you haven't read one of her books, you are really missing out!

Easy reader. Stephanie is a likeable, believable character. The story itself is a bit crazy and unbelievable, and it is really less of a mystery per se and more of a crime story. Take it for what it is.

I love Janet Evanovich! Funny, quirky, and believable characters. This book is no exception. The only thing I don't like is the OCCASIONAL rough language. However, for me, the good outweighs the bad BIG TIME.

I love the Stephanie Plum series of novels. I really hate reading so I purchase them both in audio for me and paperback for houseguests and friends. I'm drawn in with the excitment and adventure of the story that Janet seems to capture in every novel. It has twists, turns, Lula, mystery, wonder, and of course two very "HOT" men! Who wouldn't want a mix of both men. :} I would recommend the "Plum" series, her "Full" series, as well as her earlier novels of mixed titles. They're all great fun and keep you as a reader at the edge of your seat waiting to see if a cars going to get blown up, who's died this week, who attends the pot roast dinner, who she sleeps with next, what will burn down next, and will she get her man (love or bounty). I hope you enjoy them as much as I have. I look forward to #14 in the "Plum" series, the next "Full" novel, and the new novel Janet recently wrote with a new author being released this October. Thank you!

Not really impressed

After enjoying the first two Stephanie Plum stories, I eagerly jumped into this one. It did not meet expectations. It was just not believable. Stephanie continues to make the kinds of mistakes that you would think she would learn from by now. And while I was able to laugh at the irreverence of the earlier books, I agree with others who said this book was a bit TOO crude. I am undecided as to whether to move onto the 4th.

Grandma Mazur ... I'd like you to meet Lula!

It was a slow day in the bounty hunting business and the best that Stephanie could do was an FTA. "Uncle Mo" Bedemier, well-loved owner of the local ice cream parlour, was a "failure to appear" on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon. Stephanie didn't like the idea of having to chase down one of the burg's most respected citizens and the local populace, thinking the charge bogus and ill-advised in any event, certainly weren't tripping over themselves to give Stephanie a lending hand finding her man. But business is business and Stephanie is Stephanie. She leaped into the deep end of the pool and soon found herself up to her neck in murdered drug dealers, vigilantes, bible-thumping snake-charming country preachers and the porn industry. Plenty of room for fun and games in this little story!

But from the first moment a grateful reading audience read Stephanie Plum's exploits in her debut novel "One for the Money", the plot never has been the thing. "Three to Get Deadly" doesn't change a thing about that. Character development, slapstick comedy, earthy blue-collar New York dialogue and sticky wickets that would do "The Perils of Pauline" proud are what has rocketed this series to the top of the best-selling lists. No doubt about it. Janet Evanovich continues her string of successes and laugh-out-loud hilarity reigns supreme from first page to last.

Did you like Grandma Mazur in the first two books of the series? Then you'll die for Lula, former juiced hooker, newly minted office assistant and bounty hunter in training under Stephanie's dubious tutelage. She's "f"-ing amazing - funny, frolicsome, free-wheeling, full-figured, feisty, fired-up, frantic, in your face and fabulous! She's got a salty mouth and an attitude that any self-respecting trucker would be might proud of! What a piece of work.

Highly recommended.

FOR STARTERS, LET ME SAY THAT I THINK PRETTY HIGHLY OF THIS FILM. HOWEVER, THIS IS NOT A FILM THAT WARRANTS THE EXTRA MONEY TO GO BLU-RAY.

I OWN THIS TITLE ON DVD AND BLU, AND FRANKLY, I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE MY BLU MONEY BACK. THERE IS NOT A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN EITHER PICTURE OR SOUND QUALITY. WITH A FAIRLY LARGE COLLECTION OF STANDARD AND HIGH DEF FILMS, THIS IS JUST ONE THAT IS NOT WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY IN MY OPINION.

I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THOUGH, THIS FILM IS WELL WORTH THE COST OF A STANDARD DVD AND WOULD BE AN EXCELLENT ADDITION TO ANY COLLECTION.

Mel Gibson is a pacifist who live in South Carolina circa 1776. His pacifism was caused by the violence he saw during the French and Indian War that he fought in. Heath Ledger plays his almost grown son.

Highly recommended for fans of the American Revolutionary war, Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger.

I like how he doesn't want to fight. He just wants to live in peace and raise his family and tend his crops.

Just like American patriots to this day he did not want war. No, we are a God fearing, peaceful people. But, if our freedom is under attack and our country needs us then we will accept the call to duty. Freedom is not free.

This is the true American spirit and even though Australian, Mel Gibson understands it very well. Perhaps it is his faith that ties him together with us. As in a previous film, "Braveheart", Gibson is a good man forced into action by circumstances beyond his control to fight the English. And when he does, put on your rain coat because there will be blood, and lots of it, pouring and spraying everywhere. If there ain't a lot of blood shed it's not a Mel Gibson movie. Farmer Mel does the Lord's work, quickly turning into an axe weilding colonial Rambo killing machine. I suppose one shouldn't be surprised at his dispatching of a fairly large number of Red Coats with such efficiency. The peoples' blood lust shall be satisfied with just killings of the wicked. And the English surely are wicked and cruel, at one point burning to the ground a little white chapel filled with innocents. No wonder our brave countrymen fought the Revolution. And watching this vivid and moving history you know God was on our side.

Actually, the movie is pretty fascist in it's conception. Leni Riefenstahl would love it. It does make you wonder when something like this is popular what percentage of the masses, particularly the peasantry, is inherently fascist in it's politics. Or if not inherently, at least very prone. Scary.
