The bad news first: this is NOT in widescreen.
Aside from that, (and the fact it's not available on DVD), this is an AWESOME movie for Dragnet fans. That is, for fans of the ORIGINAL Dragnet (1951). Joe Friday is a little bit rougher than the clean-cut model of decency who crossed the TV screen in the late 1960s. Here we have a tough, hard-hitting crime fighter who is not afraid to push some serious boundaries to get the job done (and it's stuff you could NEVER get away with today). But - no spoiling! - you've got to see it to believe it.
A bonus for those who grew up seeing the broadcast TV version is that this is a COMPLETE version (there were several scenes cut from the broadcast version - some of which are critical to the plot). But once again - no spoiling - you'll have to see it yourself.
A definite must-have for the hard core Dragnet fan!

This was one of my favorite films growing up. And now that I am older not only do I still like the action and the suspense of the piece but I understand more of the science behind it. Basically this is a must for DVD collectors and Arnold lovers. In my opinion it is one of the best films of the eighties and helped define Hollywood!!

Although I purchased the Lenticular edition, I received the regular DVD.
The PROOF OF PURCHASE code on the case is 1001182, which is for the regular DVD.
The UPC sticker that is taped to the plastic wrap has the Lenticular edition code, but the case itself has the UPC code for the regular DVD of 00027616854735.
I'm asking Amazon for a refund of the price difference of $5.50.

I have been waiting for a decent film transfer of this movie since the original DVD which was non-letterbox stereo. Boy did that one suck. I am sure the 2001 DVD release re-mastered from HD and 5.1 audio was much better. But I waited for this one and it's 100x better. The menu is cool but would have been even better with a faster interface response like HD-DVD provided. Let's hope Java-BD offers better menu speed/quality/consistency that all of us were used to on HD-DVD.

In my mind when you are just slapping dvd auality on to a Blu-ray disk you are false advertising and ripping the public off. No one needs or wants a blu-ray film simply for the disk itself but they want a better movie. Sure they have the uncompressed audio but the picture quality sucks. If you have the DVD keep it and foget this.

If you read in the reviews that this was one of the worst movies of Pam Anderson and of all time, don't believe it. I first saw it about 3 or 4 years after it's release and I saw it on cable. At that time I thought it was new until I saw the date at the end. I asked several people if they had ever heard of Barb Wire and all answers were no. Obviously when this movie came out it didn't get much advertisement. Pam Anderson doesn't play the dumb blode in this one. She's a woman in control with plenty of brains And brawn. If you like movies of the future and what happens after the Big War then you'll love this one and Pam. Her favorite saying in this movie is "Don't Call Me Babe" and watch out guys if you find a gal saying that to you. This movie should be rereleased and given the credit and advertisement it deserves and Pamela Anderson deserves. Her performance should have won her an award. If you only listen to the critics you'll miss the best movies and this is #1 on that list. DON'T CALL ME BABE!

Holmes on the other hand, is treated like, "Oh, yeah, better mention him once in a while!" I have no doubt of Mr. Paxton's credentials in the field of graphology. But even the fact that my copy is personally signed by the author (not to me, which tells you that the person he did sign it for didn't keep it) doesn't make it of much value. It's a curiosity, nothing more. A little less graphology and more writing would have made a credible story. Quoth the Raven, droping a black feather...

This book was a complete disappointment. It is apparently self-published and self-edited and the errors in grammar and continuity fairly scream off the page. The author fails to capture Victorian England of 1896 by making several errors of historical fact. Most distressing of all is the total failure to capture the characters of Holmes and Watson in the style that Conan Doyle created them. The personalities are all wrong and the dialogue completely misses the mark.
If you are ready to move beyond Doyle's canon this is NOT the tome you wish to peruse. There are too many other excellent Holmes collections available.

This book is nowhere close to the style of Doyle or other Holmes authors. It is a self-published (and poorly self-edited) ego trip by Paxton so he could expound his theories of graphology, of which he claims to be an expert, and his personal family history. His used his wife as "illustrator" (see cover for her style, does that look like Holmes ?) and he probably wrote off a trip to Europe as "research". His writing style is atrocious (eg: Holmes starts 3 sentences in a row, in the same paragraph, with: "I have been..."
He completely fails to capture the Holmes style and instead lulls his readers into disinterest with long, boring dissertations and completely unrealistic dialogue.
This is about as phony a Holmes volume as ever hit the market. Try John Dickson Carr or Nicolas Meyer if you're ready to expand beyond Doyle's original canon.
