I was a seasoned HTML programmer a few years ago. Since then, I fell out of the craft and needed a book to start from the beginning so I wouldn't miss anything. This was that book. Examples, references, and meaningful information pertaining to the language. Recommended to anyone looking for a place to start on their own webspace.

I am surprised no one has yet post a review for this one....

Honestly, I just got the book today. But guess what, I've been glued to my desk for 5 hours by now... First of all, if you know what it feels like to have ALL of your questions answered regarding the webpage you're working on then you know how I feel right now. This book is every bit competent as it was written to be - an html "reference." I am no newbie in html but still, I like how the book organize and explain the syntax and methodology of this language. My favorite section of the book was on style sheets, not only did I learn quite a few new tricks (or maybe they were simply not listed in my other reference) but I also found the cross-browser reference very useful. This is a fantastic reference that's full of examples and thoughtful materials. Just so you know, my other reference is the well-know "html 4 for the world wide web" by Elizabeth Castro. I must say it is well deserved the praise and hypes because nothing I've seen can topper this champ for for it's purpose -- it'll get you started in no time. But trust me, after you start programming in html for a while, you'll need a more in-depth reference. well, look no further, this is IT. At first I was hesitated to buy this book because there's no review on it......now I'm just a happy reader.

Dog-eared already.

This is the only book for HTML 4.01 needed. Written and arranged so that information is easily found and understood. An excellent, comprehensive resource for both novice and experienced alike as it touches on everything one would need to know, forms-tables-style sheets-deprecated's, etc.

Combined the fictional flavor of Frank Peretti and C.S. Lewis. I love the Peretti set of Piercing the Darkness and This Present Darkness, but this was much better.

The best book I have ever read

It makes you realize the spiritual warfare that is amoung us. This book is a facinating expeirience of self discovery through one man's struggle.

The Last Prophet's Book puts a whole new twist on a story thousands of years in the making. When war between Hamartia and Plenarius breaks out, the strain on Plenarius is too much. They fight armed with a prophecy, which is about to unfold on a lesser, meaningless planet, called Earth.

The Last Prophet's Book is one of the most intriguing books I have read. This book is so jam-packed with biblical names and hints that you can't help being caught up in the words of Calvin Oliver Wilson.

Sci-fi action and a Christian worldview together

While it may begin slowly, the book has exploding action! The first couple of chapters set the scene for the rest of the book. The action doesn't end before the last chapter.

The book is sci-fi and yet tries to hold to certain components of Christianity. There are quite a few aspects of the sci-fi following in the book. Ships, planets, and futuristic technology all find their place, even within a Biblical worldview.

Wilson mixed different languages into the book, making hidden meanings in many of the names. For example, Hamartia, the name of the evil planet means sin from Greek. Or the name of Zaragiah's adoptive parent, "An" is from the Chinese for peace.

A Great Book

Wilson crafts a space saga where the universe is not devoid of God but created and centralized around Him. While much of the story borders on a Star Wars type novel, the protagonists in this book use the power of God instead of the "the force'. Fortunately, it pulls this off without being too cheesy or preachy.

Jim is the last living prophet on our world, who works out a very meager living on a ramshackle farm. His prophetic visions tell a story of two other inhabited planets created by God and their inevitable encounter with our planet.

The blending of science fiction and religion makes for an entertaining story. The development of the main character hero Wesley, who overcomes immense obstacles and plot points, keeps the pages turning.

Although I enjoyed the compelling story of the hero, I would have liked to have found more history and information about some of the items and technology used (but thats just me, I'm a geek).

If you enjoy fantasy or science fiction stories such as Lord of the Rings or Star Wars this book will have you racing to the end.

Outstanding book on Brief Therapy for Christian Counselors

I am a Christian psychiatrist who found this book to be very well written. The authors offer practical insights and avoid the use of technical jargon. The theoretical orientation is solution-focused which can be used alone or in combination with other treatment modalities. I really liked this book and highly recommend it for therapists new and experienced alike. It is a must have for every psychotherapist's library!

Too many books on counseling talk about theory and more theory. While counselors need a good theoretical base, we desperately need practical ideas for helping the people who come in to see us. This book provided that kind of help for me. A central theme of this book is about undestanding how people change. If we know this, we can help them change. The book encourages you to look for even small changes, because change is generative. The book even gives an outline of what the first few sessions of solution-focused therapy should look like. As the authors state, the avearge client only comes six to eight sessions anyway, so therapists need to focus on making the most of those sessions. This book helps give you a plan for making that happen.

MOST NECESSARY, MEN OF GOD!

Review Date: 2008-06-14
This little, powerful booklet includes Biblical examples, and personal testimony for the necessity and power of accountability to God, first and foremost, but also among groups of Godly men.
*It is ESSENTIAL to have more than a group of TWO men, i would say, as two can easily begin to rationalize sin where three or four are more likely to stand strong and call unholiness for what it is.*
In these 39 pages are given recommendations for men of accountability to seek other men after God's own heart who seek to remain accountable and grow in their spiritual walk! I HIGHLY recommend this booklet!!! Don't just buy it, but let it transform your daily walk as you JOIN WITH OTHERS in courage and boldness, daily pleasing Christ the King!!! -b

This edited book brings together pastors, psychologists, physicians and counselors in a "conversation" about addiction and spirituality. It blends current scholarship on addiction with personal stories of spiritual growth and insights into how to develop spiritually. Bravo!

Absolute Must Have

As a professional in the field of addiction, it has been my experience that the subject of spirituality has been lacking in treatment programs, and this book assists with all aspects and religions. This text not only has a fresh perspective on presenting and addressing spirituality in relation to addiction, it also is a valuable therapeutic resource, to assist the therapist in practical application with the client. I have found spirituality to be a necessity in any successful recovery program. The only problem has been that this subject varies from person to person. This book helps every individual find their own definition to the word "spirituality."
I would recommend this book to anyone who comes into contact with the disease of addiction.

Be The Leader

If you have always had questions about how to be the man in your home. Always wondered what the bible said. Didn't really know how to be the father, husband or just leader this book is the best that could have ever happened to you. Be ready for change that will help you in your marrage. No more Divorce No more Fights. Okay maybe not fights but you get a great way to learn how to lead your family the Godly way. The key is that you don't give to your wife first. You read it and go thru it then when you are ready to accomplish the task let her read it. This is a real blessing.

One of the best books on male leadership ever.

I first read this book about 2 years ago and I now I have started my second reading. The truths contained in it are very precious. You will find yourself coming to it over and over again. From cover to cover there is a wealth of information in it. Four chapters really stand out to me - 1) The Leader in His Home, 2) The Priest in His Home, 3) The Provider in His Home and 4) The Encourager in His Home. In a world where most men have somehow "abdicated from the throne" and handed over the issue of male leadership to our wives, this book sets out how a man can lead his family effectively. It has nothing to do with male machoism but everything the Lord intended it to be. Let me briefly share with you a portion from the chapter The Leader in His Home.

"The Leader of the home builds a cohesive unit out of varied interests and age groups of the family. Peter calls that coalition building. The leader sees that the new priorities set by his teens don't get lost in the old priorities of becoming a grown-up. He listens, encourages and reinforces. But more than anything else, the leader of the home is visible when things are falling apart in the lives of his family. He is the glue that holds the family together. But when things are clicking along well, the leader steps back, encircles his family with his arms and leaves the center stage to others."

I could go on and on but I would highly recommend this book to any man who is serious about leading his family to get this book. Don't just buy one; buy two, three, or even five to give out to your friends ;because if you buy only one and after reading you lend it to a friend, chances are that you may not get it back. The book is worth its weight in gold. And something else, if you buy the book read it first before your wife does otherwise you are in trouble.

I'm not a big fan of most inspirational books because they don't have enough substance. This one, however, caught my eye because it's so different. I was also familiar with the author, Stephanie Stokes Oliver, from her work as editor of Essence and Heart & Soul magazines.

This is the kind of book you'll want to curl up with in a comfy chair. It manages to be warm, personal, and inspirational as well as practical. There's a LOT here, and it really runs the gamut--everything from domestic violence to spirituality to your more typical health and wellness topics. Ms. Oliver lists lots of useful resources, including Web links, and adds touching, often funny personal anecdotes to the mix. Her experience as a women's magazine editor really shows. And this isn't just a book for African-American women--I think that any woman would find plenty of material in here to interest her. A very welcome addition to the inspirational market!

I picked this book up as soon as it was released and make it part of my daily rituals. Even when I travel, I always make sure to pack it and take it with me so I won't miss my daily inspiration. However, I need to bring to the author's attention that on the message for Feb. 28, she mentions the 1963 Democratic convention was after the assassination of MLK. That was not 1963 but 1968. Or does she mean after the death of JFK? Please clarify for your readers.

GREAT FOR INTERACTING WITH 4 TO 8 YR OLDS

Review Date: 2008-04-23
This is a great little book for interacting with 4 to 8 year olds. First, it's a nice little size with bright colors. Each story has 4 sections: 1. Time to Think: simple questions to discuss before reading the story. 2. Time to listen: Bible story and illustration. 3. Time to Talk: questions about the story. 4. Time to Pray: ideas for prayer and scripture verse related to the lesson. Each lesson is easily presented on a 2 page format, so everything is seen on a one page opening. Some of the topics discussed are: God Makes Us Happy, God Loves Us, Helping Others, Helping Jesus, God Speaks to Me, Making God Happy, Living for God, God is the Greatest. This is the best devotional/story book I've used with my small children.

A "Must-Have" for Every Christian Family with Young Kids!

This book has proved to be an indispensable tool in helping to lay the foundation of regular bible study for my 6-year-old daughter. Each devotion provides a very practical "Thinking Step" with questions to spark the child's interest. From there, you go to the "Listening Step" which is a short, easy-to-understand bible story. Next, the "Talking Step" stimulates honest discussion. The devotions end with the "Praying Step" which lists suggestions for prayer. Also, each devotion has a memory verse. The structure of the devotions has been very helpful in training my child in how to have daily quiet times and how to think spiritually. I know the fruit of these devotions will continue to be seen in her life as the years go by. This book is a MUST for any parent interested in training their child to love God and meditate on His word!

I had purchased this book from Dr. Oliver recently at a woman's tea she spoke at and she wrote a prsonal note in each book purchased that night. I liked the book so much, I wanted a couple for gifts. There were a couple 'nicks' in both of the book bindings and the covers were a bit bent on the ones I received in the mail. They perhaps could have been packaged a bit more carefully since they are soft covers. However that does not damage the contents!

So touching and sweet!
