I am excited about Do Hard Things because for too long Christian teens have been thought incapable of doing significant things for God. My experience with students is that they are passionate and gifted. They just need some encouragement and equipping. Brett and Alex Harris are to be thanked for writing this book. Of all people, Christians should attempt great things for God, and trust him for the results. And there is a lot to be excited about as the next generation steps out in faith to follow Christ.

Do Hard Things by Alex & Brett Harris is an amazing book by two amazing young men. These teenage twins are determined to shatter the image of teenagers as irresponsible and lazy. They've already interned at the Alabama Supreme Court and worked on political campaigns. They have a top-rated blog at The Rebelution. This book is a powerful read, not just for teens, but for their parents as well. All too many teens, and even those in their twenties, are underachieving with society's permission. Alex & Brett use examples from the Bible and history like King David, Timothy, George Washington, and Clara Barton to prove that young people can do amazing things by listening to God and trusting Him. They also include several stories from young people they know who have made a difference in their community and the world. Along with these anecdotes they include lots of Scripture and encouragement to find your own calling and do your hard thing. This inspiring book should be required reading for all Christian teens. I'm impressed by the Harris brothers aside from their book. Alex just joined Shelfari on Saturday, and I was one of the first people he asked to be his friend (probably because I had Do Hard Things on my reading list), and he included a warm message. These are young men who are going to do not only hard things, but great things as well.

The Harris Brothers have written a book that is truly connected to the seeking hearts of the Millinial Generation. It is written by teens, for teens. My 13 year old son reads a few chapters then chews on what he's read. He's sharing with us (his parents) what he's reading. He is inspired to step out of his comfort zone and go against the flow of culture and society to do what God has put on his heart to do which is generally not "popular". Oddly enough, many follow his leadership because it is trustworthy and right - which is what this generation is craving - righteousness.

As a parent I am so thankful the Harris brothers chose to live out their calling by delivering this imperative message to their generation. Parents, get this book for your teens.

"Do Hard Things" is written by Brett and Alex Harris. Both are only 19. And both speak the language that teens speak.

I JUST got done reading "Do Hard Things" and it was one of the most inspirational books I have read. Alex and Brett's story is one that makes your jaw drop. But, then they tell the story of other teens who have done "Hard Things". The stories are incredible. It makes you realize that not only can teens make a difference but we CAN affect the world.

The Harris' brothers approach the teen years with the mind set that most teens have. Most teens say, "Hey who cares? I'm a teen I'm supposed to be reckless!" Teens think that since we turn 13 that we can now throw our lives out the door until were 20. Alex and Brett correctly show that not only is that wrong but un-biblical. Teens were leaders in the Bible's days(but we weren't called teens). We are supposed to be the influence for the older and younger. These years make or break our lives!

Alex and Brett prove to so many teens that have the "I can't do it" attitude that, YOU CAN! If God calls you to do something than do it and don't worry about the obstacles that will face you. Have faith and you shall overcome it!

Alex and Brett correctly approach the Take A Stand attitude. They tell the story of one teen who insted of joing the group and seeing Beerfest, goes with his friend to see Invincible. That is the examples kids need. That is something that evryday teens can do. To say "No" isn't shameful but prideful in God's eyes! Go against the crowd!

"Do Hard Things" is a book I will not only pass around but tell people about. Every teen, parent and/or church member should pick up this book. Join the Rebelution! It's never too late to do Hard Things.

I am a mom of 4, so what am I doing reading a book by teen boys?

Well, I have an "almost" teen age daughter. Hannah will turn 13 this year, and let me tell you, that life is wild for tweens and teens. They are crossing lines, dressing older, dating younger, and facing the challenges we may have faced in our late teens in their junior high years.

I was very intrigued when I heard of thios book by two twin brothers who are 19 years old. What could they have to say?

Well, a lot! And it is exactly what I want Hannah to hear. And I can guarantee that she will listen more to these two teen boys quicker than me.

Do Hard Things is a must read for every mom or grandma with a tween or a teen. I am almost done reading it, and will pass it on to Hannah to read next, Then she and I can go out to dinner some night and talk about what she learned.

This is a book that gets to the heart of the matter - living for Christ no matter what your age. As a forty year old mom, I learned a lot myself, about what teens go through, and about some of my own struggles as well.

As a 40 year old mom, I want to know more about what is in my teenager's heart, how I can help her through these tough years, and point her to Christ.

And, as a 40 year old mom, I want to Do Hard Things, Too!

This book is a must for all people of all ages. Whether your a Chuck Norris fan or not. As one review put it, he lays his emotions and home life on the table. I found it so intriguing that I couldn't put the book down for long periods of time, because I wanted to know more. This book has begun to open my eyes to look inside myself. I'm so motivated that I am going to get his second inner strength book about ZEN! This book is easy to read and he is an inspiring teacher. It's so good that I don't want to give the book up!

I have seen Chuck Norris interviewed on several TV shows and he comes across as a very soft spoken shy man, yet you can tell he has a very powerful inner strength. In his career he has helped countless young people who doubted themselves to pick themselves up from despair and a feeling of uselessness and to believe in themselves and to do something great with their lives. He cares for his fellow man and has given of himself when he didn't have to. This book allows you to see inside his heart and to see and feel the struggles he has gone through and conquered. Chuck Norris is a Winner and so is this book. It is definitely a must read. Someone should do a movie on his life! He started at the bottom (he failed his first black belt test) and came out on top.

I like action movies, and TV. Chuck Norris is reliable and delivers in his films. But this book reveals a depth of character that seems to be depressiongly rare in the entertainment business.

In the end, Mr. Norris is an optimist.

He thinks that things will eventually work out OK.
He thinks that people can overcome adversity.
H thinks that people can succeed if they really apply thmeselves.

But he notes that success is rarely easy. Persistence and attitude are everything, and that strong character is essential. What are the elements of a strong character? According to Chuck Norris, they include the same qualities that The Boy Scouts and other institutions which claim to build character stress: Honesty, bravery, humility, humor, loyalty, commitment to truth, learning, duty, assissting others, etc.

If this book has a cental falw, it is the long (and often tedious) sections detailing some of Mr. Norris' films. But woven in wiht the narratives are some excellent insights into the value of strong character.

In the value free world of entertainment and media, Chuck Norris is not afraid or ashamed to state that "right" and "wrong" are valid and applicable concepts. He gives several concreate examples to express his life philosophy and the validity thereof. Being didactic and judgemental are often frowned upon in media, entertainment, and publishing. But Norris makes a case 9with anecdotes and examples) that sound judgements premised or rooted upon well-formed values, are a positive thing.

In the end, a portrait emerges of a man shaped by his values, not his past. And Chuck Norris had a very hard start in life. But he decided that he would not fall into despair; instead, he would rise above expectations, and succeed.

I can recommend this book for many reasons. THe two main reasons I do so are that it dispels the cyncial belief that honesty and good values are no longer worth anything. And in the end, Chuck Norris' life story serves as an inspirational motivator; to go out and make something of oneself.

This is a very positive book, and one I highly recommend.

Martial arts and film buffs will enjoy this book, which is a straightforward autobiography (written with the assistance of Joe Hyams). Be forwarned that this book was published in 1988 (at least my hardcover version), so the filmography doesn't cover his more recent works.

Norris describes his experiences from childhood, to the time spent in the armed forces, where he originally took up the matrial art of Tang Soo Do under Jae-chul Shin (who today runs the World Tang Soo Do Association).

This volume describes Norris's tournament days, including quite a bit about his competition experiences. There is also information about his family life, his entry into film making during his time as a karate (Tang Soo Do) instructor, and his experiences as a self-made actor in Hollywood. Throughout, he is honest as he describes his triumphs and mistakes.

Chuck Norris is the quintessential all-American guy who worked his tail off, took a big gamble, and came out on top. This book describes his journey from average joe, to martial arts instructor, to professional film star. This book includes two sections of photographs which show Norris from childhood, with family, in the services, in karate competition, and during the filming of his movies.

I thought I knew Chuck Norris before buying this book. But what I found was nothing that I ever expected. Chuck had a hard life and had health problems that he had to over come, talk about bad luck, nothing came easy for him, not even being born! If you are into self improvement or want a really inspiring story, buy this book and read it over and over again, the knowledge contained is great. It has a whole system of self development contained within, I have so much to say on this book, but read it for yourself, it's worth every penny!

Fight The Good FightHaving been a member of Prestonwood Baptist Church and sat under the ministry of Dr. Jack Graham for four years, I believe that he is truly a man of God. A great leader who has served as the President of the Southern Baptist Convention for two terms. My wife and I have purchased this book to give to others.

This book is must reading for every man! It speaks of our relationship with God and how that relationship is carried over to that with our wives, children, employers, etc. Guys, God expects certain things from us. I encourage all men to read this book!

I couldn't be happier with the purchase of this book. It is by far one of the best sources on godly living for men. His style is personal, yet powerful. And just in time for Father's Day, it has inspired me to include all the essential priorities listed by Dr. Graham into my own life and family.

This book is more than your average book. It covers topics that every man wants to know more about. It digs deeps into Scripture and offers Christian men the basic essentials to living sold-out to God. I couldn't be happier with this book. On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being the highest), I give it a 12.

Jack Graham is pastor of the massive Prestonwood Baptist Church which boasts a membership of over 23,000 and is thus one of the world's largest churches. He has written several books, the latest of which is A Man of God (which releases today). To provide a clear idea of the target audience for this book, one does not need to look much farther than the list of endorsers. The list includes Roger Staubach, Gary Carter and Pat Summerall. Neil Clark Warren (founder of the online dating site eHarmony.com) is added for good measure. And Chuck Norris enters the fray to write the foreward. And if you still aren't sure, perhaps this quote will bring added clarity. "The Christian life is more important than the Super Bowl, the World Series, the NBA Finals, and the Stanley Cup all wrapped together" (page 12).

This book is obviously intended for the American "everyman" - the average guy with average interests who attends the average church. Graham intends this book to be a wake-up call. He tells us early-on that he has always firmly believed that "if revival was to come to the church, and if the Good News of Jesus Christ was to spread to the nations, it would be because men became godly and began living their faith with passion and integrity" (page 13). He seeks to encourage men to step up to the challenges offered to the faith in the twenty-first century and accept responsibility for the church.

The book is divided into four roughly-equal sections, each containing three chapters. The first, "A Man of God and His Master" challenges men to know, understand and commit to God. Graham teaches that men need to commit to maximum discipleship - discipleship that impacts the whole life. The second section, "A Man of God and His Integrity" challenges men to live upright lives marked by moral purity and free from captivity to temporal possessions. The third section, "A Man of God and His Family" speaks of the importance of prioritzing family relationships. The final section, "A Man of God and His Ministry" challenges men about in the areas of mentorship and evangelism.

The book is written in a conversational tone and is simple both to read and understand. Stories and examples abound. Scripture examples and proof-texts are also in abundant supply.

There were a couple of small theological issues I found with the book, but I can see that these arose because of my Reformed understanding of salvation. On page 201 Graham writes, "People are incredibly interested in something that will fill the void in their hearts." While this may be true, in no way does this indicate, as he seems to indicate, that unbelievers are genuinelly and spiritually interested in the gospel. But beyond such minor concerns, I found the book quite Scriptural.

I am not convinced that Graham says very much in this book that has not been said before by other authors. In fact, there are probably quite literally one hundred books that deal with this same topic in a similar way. However, judging by the churches of today it seems that plenty of men have still not accepted the challenge, so perhaps this book can serve to wake a few more from their spiritual slumber. If a man in your life is not a reader, and has not already read several similar titles, this may be the type of book that will challenge and motivate him. It is certainly more biblical and more challenging than Wild at Heart and so many others.

I am pleased to announce that Byron Coley's biography of Chuck Norris is still considered definitive.

A must read. Very inspirational. Shows that in this life you should never give up. You must always believe and have faith. Eventually you will succeed. I would recommend this to all those who are serious about life, serious about achievement, serious about helping others.

A good book, espically if your a Chuck Norris fan. Easy read, went through very quickly. Truly enjoyable.

I admire Chuck Norris very much. I think he sets a fine example for young and old alike. Personally, I would have liked to have read more about the personal side of his life and just a little less of his martial arts story. The segment of "Walker, Texas Ranger" was way too, too short. Still, I'd like to read more of his material. Now, Chuck, in my opinion, is a real man!

* Minor Spoilers Ahead *

I thought this book was great. It starts off with Chuck's early life at home with his mother and father. The story gets interesting to read since Chuck lived a very poor life as a child and on top of that, his father was an alcoholic. He talks about his time with his brothers, and his mother, and his relationship with God. At the next stage in the book, Chuck talks about his development as a martial artist and his career as a America's top martial artist champion. Then he gets into his acting career as well as his political career (although he never ran for anything, he has a very good relationship with many former and current president, Bush).

I was disappointed with the ending of the book though. It seems Chuck spent a great deal in the first half of the book explaining his outlook on life, his relationship with God, his family, and his career choices. In the ending though, Chuck seem to trail off that road, and get more into his relationship with his new wife, her children, and their new born twins. Although that was interesting, I think he left many details of his life in question. For example, his relationship with his father ended with his father death, and it seems like there was more to the story and I'm guessing perhaps it is too personal to tell. Another example is his relationship with God. He said many times that he didn't follow God fully. What prompted him to change his outlook in life? Did he have some type of moment where he suddenly realized that his relationship in the Lord was all that mattered? Also, in the end he didn't fully explain what his future plans are. He indicates that he plans to be a full time parent, and on top of that get his martial arts in public school program going, and doing business roles in his school.

Overall, I was pleased with the book. I feel in the end he left many things in question. Perhaps it's too personal or maybe he doesn't know what he wants to do or his thoughts. I liked the book and recommend it to anyone interested in Chuck.

Chuck Norris's life story will make you laugh, cry and realize what Jesus Christ can do in your life. Thank you Mr. Norris for sharing your story with the world. A must read for everyone. Recommend 100% to all.

Excellent book. Does an excellent job blending timeless Zen lessons to practical life situations. Helps you to stop the daily grind of life and take what is truly important to yourself each day.

This book is straightforward, short and a great reading experience. I dog-eared many corners, and underlined a lot of the text.

The "secret power" and "solving problems" parts are a bit light, but the book was so good on many other points that I did not mind. This book has earned a place in my library. Recommended reading.

Being a Chuck Norris fan his book "The Secret Power Within" was enjoyable and an easy read. Chuck told stories that were touching and poignant. He talked about Zen and Meditation which help him keep his cool in the ring and in life. I saw him win the World Championship in Dallas where in the preliminaries he knocked out ten competitors with no signs of nervousness or fear. Chuck is a true champion in the ring and in life.

Chuck Norris is not only a martial arts and action icon, he is now a culteral phenomenon. Few people know the man behind the immense reputation, this book will take you there - like a roundhouse kick to the face.

Chuck Norris is a man who has succeeded at everything he has done, which
makes him a person I want to know more about. In this book he reveals his
methods of achieving his goals and meeting life's challenges. His advice
may not always be easy to follow, but it is always good and wise advice.
This is clearly one of the most beneficial books I have read.

My son requested this book (bonus enough he ASKED for a BOOK!) :) for Christmas, & he was ecstatic to get it! He's really enjoyed reading it & says to please tell you it is an honor to read about a real life American hero in his own words, & is (he told me to capitalize this) CHUCK NORRIS APPROVED! WE LOVE CHUCK!!!

This book is very inspirational, easy to read, full of Chuck Norris pictures through his career. a very interesting story. I'll recommended.

I bought this book for my wife for Christmas. She is a fan of Chuck. She finished the book in a matter of days and gave it to me to read. I'm glad I did. Learned tons of things I never knew about him. I would recommend this book even if you are not a big fan because it tells a good rags to riches story.

I gave this book to my adult son when he achieved his black belt in karate. He found it very inspiring and hard to put down! He has suggested that I read it which I will.

Chuck Norris is undoubtedly a stright shooter of high moral character.
It would have been more interesting if he had gone into more detail about his life from childhood to when he started with the martial arts. Bottom line, I did enjoy the book.

This is a great book. It is honestly one of the funniest, most heartfelt, demented and strangest novels I've ever read. Although I've finished it, I keep flipping through it and reading pages and chapters over and over. A great debut book from a talented new writer.

A real page turner, poignant, insightful and FUNNY. Laugh-out-loud yet, in way, touching. Anyone who's ever been perceived as the underdog - which is most of us - can relate to this collection.

I read this upon a recommendation from a friend (because four of my five brothers were Altar Boys) and I'm glad I did. I hope to see more from this author.

My only real complaint is I wish the book was longer. Which is exactly the opposite of the way I usually feel after putting down a book.

When you hear the title, Dirty Little Altar Boy, what comes to mind is a tween or teenager that is a misfit and probably did some wild stuff when he was in middle school. What you get with Christopher's novel is a tired, worn-out plot about a 12-to-13-year-old malcontent who really doesn't do anything wrong. He attends parochial school, is an altar boy and is friends with two other rag tag, unpopular boys.

His friends steal the host chalice and wine from the priest, but that's been done before. The reader can't get close to Christopher, we catch glimpses when his father gets angry, once, but we don't get a full and complete picture of this boy, or why he'd consider himself a "dirty little altar boy." The book is a scattered glimpse into the life of Christopher, his love of Chuck Norris, finding girls attractive and generally doing what most young adolescent boys do.

The most deeply written story in the book is when Valentine boxes are on each child's desk and Christopher is left out, not getting one Valentine. It shows the brutality of other children, the pickiness and fickleness of girls and Christopher's heartbreak.

Armchair Interviews says: A decent read for a malcontent teenage boy, but otherwise a pass for the rest of us.

This is a great book covering a time of change we have all been through. The author mixes humor with insight to take you through those troubled times between adolescents and the teen years. One will never know how he, his family and, friends ever survived these stories. Great fun!

When I finished the last page of this book, misty-eyed and smiling at the same time, I was ready to start over and read it again. Not only is it funny and smart, this book stays with you. It's a coming-of-age story that dodges the cliches, and it isn't afraid to get its hands dirty, just like the 13-year old protagonist himself. It touches on such a pivotal age, and through a series of short stories creates a large, vivid, and fulfilling novel. The characters are colorful and unflinchingly truthful, and the situations (from the hilariously surreal to the painfully too-real) are relatable and clever. The writer handles his subject matter with subtle brush strokes in some stories, or with the unbridled enthusiasm of a Rick Springfield concert when necessary. You can't help but connect with the protagonist, an outcast hero whose observations of his increasingly complicated world are written with a pitch-perfect voice that encompasses everything from innocence to cynicism, hope to disgust. This novel is funny, heartbreaking, moving, imaginative, and mischievous.

I think that this is an o.k. book, however not what I really expected. I though that it would be better.

This book is loaded with excellent exercises and illustrations for the martial artist to give a strong, lean appearance without sacrificing any flexibility or speed. I purchased my copy when it came out and have followed many of the exercises over the years and they have helped me a great deal. Most can be done in a small hotel room using only a chair and a belt as equipment!

I think Total Recall is a classic movie. I was extremely excited when I saw it had been released on Blu Ray, and I immediately bought it. Overall, I think the upgrade was nice, and of course I liked the movie itself.

This is cool comes with a metal tin that holds your DVD. I got this & cause of the tin. Get it, better then the DVD in the Normal DVD case.

This is a Blu-ray disk, but "Total Recall" is NOT a high-definition transfer! The picture quality is at best as good as a regular DVD, but is often very grainy with faded colors and much worse that a DVD picture. This is a complete rip-off and greedy Lionsate should be ashamed of themselves for pawning off this shoddy, low-quality transfer as hi-def Blu-Ray. What a disappointment. "Total Recall" would be beautiful in hi-def, too bad Lionsgate is too CHEAP to do the job right.

I always wondered how they made old movies into high def and the short answer is that don't. The movie was slightly (very slightly better than the DVD upconverted version).

No special features, no reason to buy the Blu-Ray version. Just buy the DVD version for a fraction of the price and it looks the same.

Great movie though :)

I noticed many 1 star reviews for this movie and I was disappointed as I already ordered it. The deal is this, people are calling it a poor transfer with lot's of grain, which is probably true...but the big problem is that they are saying in many cases that the dvd is better. I have both, I compared them side to side (although I didn't have to). Besides some grain the movie looks AWESOME. Not as good as a newer transfer like a transformers or across the universe but awesome nevertheless. You have to ask yourself if a little grain really bothers you considering that the resolution is incredible? The truth is the detail is ten times better then the dvd! There is grain, but it is not anything to worry about unless you are some sort of purist. Personally, I don't care, as many movies in the theater have serious grain (Sometimes intentionally on behalf of the director). For the price, this is totally worth it, I am also going to buy Stargate despite the bad reviews.
