I as well struggled to make sense of my own life and chronicled what I learned in my just-published book "What Everyone Believed: A Memoir of Intuition and Awakening". What I came to understand is not only that we have these pre-birth contracts (or soul agreements) with others, we now have the incredible opportunity to "congratulate ourselves for the roles that we played" not only when we're "on the other side" but right now, right here, physically on this planet. (Imagine the level of love and gratitude this will create.) We can complete the cycle of these hardships and challenges (sometimes referred to as "duality") and create a new world by bringing forth our soul potential, accessed through our intuition, our inner knowings--because it is now time for this. Living from this new consciousness is what the term "ascension" actually refers to. Then you don't feel like you want to "stop the cycle of reincarnation" (why would you want to??) because life becomes a joy. Courageous Souls is a wonderful and uplifting contribution towards this not-so-distant future.

What I love about this book is Peck's writing style. This is certainly not a book to fall asleep to, neither is it the BORING CUT AND DRY book that gives you long worksheets to fill in about your character - it entertains and dazzles you while giving you practical advise that I have not seen in many of the other books that I stole from the library.
Just to tantalize you, I will give you a few points he touches upon in the book. One is giving your hero a tool. This tool defines the character, it is something they carry with them, something they care about. This is something they use professionally as well. Think of it as the accessory that would go with your character if he was an clam-shelled action figure. Peck shows us how to write the character as he is using his tool to show the reader his personality.
Peck also devotes chapters to types of characters and how they can stir up your story soup. You have the show-off, the teacher, the ghost and the nobody kid. These are common character types used in some of the most successful fiction out there.
Stop reading right now, buy the book and feel both enlightened and entertained. I told you to stop reading . . . why do you persist on reading? Hurry and buy this book!

Harry Potter Who?Review Date: 1999-12-31
It's a shame Soup & Me and the other Soups are out of print. These books will remind you of Huck Finn; they're about clever, rural boys with cool names and the writing's just as good, but funnier.
I recommend the Soups to everybody, including Rosie O'Donnell and my nay-saying girlfriend. Most of all, I wish all pre-teen boys could read the Soups -- to actually read something that can be considered fine writing, and to learn how to construct a corn cob pipe in a Vermont corn field.
Enjoy!

deep look at the Depression Era southReview Date: 2004-05-26
However, circumstance lead to Tug going to his grandfather's house, which is near the place where his parents died. Bro worries about his younger devastated brother and does not believe his grandfather will care for Tug. Bro escapes from prison with the objective to insure that Tug gets the help he needs to overcome the tragedy.
BRO is a deep look at the Depression Era south that will leave the audience needing a bookcase worth of tissues. The cast tugs at the readers' hearts as each one struggle with what life has dealt them; Tug especially will receive much empathy. Though character driven, historical fiction readers will want to join the pack of new fans that this long time top notch author (see A DAY NO PIGS WOULD DIE) will garner.
