I loved this book especially since I've read the Christy Miller books. I think it was awesome how Doug proposes to Tracy and Todd & Christy get to be the best man and maid of honor. I really identified with Sierra in this book. I can understand how she felt left out like that and jealous of her sister. She realises that she needs to pray about her relationship with her sister and let God take over it.

This book is soo cool and encouraging!! Definitely neato!!

I think it's the best of all the Sierra Jensen books. okily dokily!! well, hope you enjoy it as much as I did!!!!:0)

I bought this book for my daughter last week (9/27/03) and she has requested it about 10 times already. She is a Dora fan and loves the lift-the-flaps effect of this book. Great colors and pictures. A definite Halloween read for your young child.

My two year old loves reading this book all through the year. He just loves halloween and loves saying "ooooh..." when he sees a spider or bat, or "Boo" when he sees a ghost. This delightful little lift-the-flap book follows Dora on her quest to find Boot's bag of Halloween candy that has been stolen by Swiper.

As in the show, she needs to consult with the map to find the way. Through the woods with Owls and Bats, into the pumpkin patch where you lift the flaps on the pumpkins to find Halloween treats, to finally the spooky haunted house witha ghost waiting at the door. Once inside, the little ones explore the haunted house by lifting up flaps and searching for the stolen bag of candy.

As delightful as the TV show, kids will just love following Dora on this spooky adventure and encountering all sorts of Halloween creatures along the way. Very enjoyable and already getting worn out in our household.

A Real Treat! Excelente!

Swiper has done it again! Where did that sneaky fox hide Boots' bag of Halloween candy? This board book of the immensely popular Latina explorer is filled with surprises for young readers. Lift 19 flaps to find a trick or a treat. Match the faces in a pumpkin patch. Guess who are the mystery guests waiting at the Haunted House, including the ghost with the orange tail. One of the better Dora stories. My daughters, ages 4 years 8 months and 2 years 10 months, have never met a Dora book they didn't like. This one is no exception.

It's Friendship Day! On Friendship Day friends around the world have parties and wear special friendship bracelets. The problem is, sneaky Swiper has been swiping friendship bracelets from all over the world!

Dora's World Adventure follows Dora, Boots, Diego, and Swiper the Fox to four locations: the Eiffel Tower in France, Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, the Winter Palace in Russia, and the Great Wall of China.

In each country, Dora interacts with various friends, saying "hello" in the native tongue. For example, when in Tanzania, Dora meets up with her friend N'Dari; in that country, "jambo" means hello.

Dora's World Adventure is an excellent book for introducing children to world geography and world cultures. My son has been asking about the various countries, relating various cultural aspects and landmarks that he learned from the book.

In the back of the book is a perforated glow-in-the-dark bracelet that your child can wear, which is a nice added touch.

My son also also has the CD-ROM game of the same name, which is also very good.

My son got this as a favor at a birthday party when he was one. He loves this book and wants us to read it to him over and over. Now, when we say "Elmo says touch your nose!" He will do it! The best one is when "Elmo says do a shimmy shake"! You have to see it. I just wish it was a board book instead of pages, since he has ripped out several pages and now I need a new copy.

For a book that covers so many disparate types of daytime programs (game shows, soap operas, sports, cartoons and kids' shows, and so on), the volume is remarkably accurate, well-written and heavily researched. You'd think the author was an expert on every genre. Maybe he is, but more likely, he just cared enough to get everything right. How refreshing.

An excellent, well presented translation
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-08-15
There are many people who believe that Epicurus is the author of the dominant school of philosophy in 21st Century Western Civilization. That might be true. Even though it's unlikely that the average American or Western European knows much about Epicurus, this ancient sage certainly expresses ideas that are held to a certain degree by many people today.

Certainly, Epicurus' thoughts were heard again in the writings of many thinkers of the Enlightenment Era, and any student of the late 17th and the 18th Centuries will take great interest in Epicurus' words. This little work could have, in fact, offered readers some passages from more modern philosophers to better help readers connect with Epicurus. I don't regard this as a flaw or fault however. The citations and excerpts from more ancient sources that are in this book are considerable for such a short book. This book delivers what it intends to, the works of Epicurus.

This translation is very readable. We don't have a lot of his writings, and this little work conveys what is extant in a language that is approachable. The addition of material excerpted from other sources is also well done, if not presented extensively enough.

An informative but much too enthusiastic introduction, one that turns into something of an endorsement, by D. S. Hutchinson should be read with respectful reservation. Do read carefully the many detractors of Epicureanism. Cicero's Nature of the Gods is a forceful response of great power not conveyed in this little volume's excerpts of that great work. The Stoics and Christians both fiercely rejected Epicurus' philosophy while generally agreeing that he was himself a man of great virtue and character. Plutarch, as the introduction also mentions, was also a harsh critic. So why did Epicurus' ideas receive so much bad press? Please do find out why.

Let me say at the outset that Epicurus is hard to understand because we have only fragments of his work.

Epicurus is important to people living in the third millenium because he realized, as most of us do, that traditional religion is not very believable.

In his time the Hellenistic and Roman world was about to fall into a morass of Eastern religions, spiritualism, and superstition familiar to third millenium people living amid Tibetan and Zen Buddhism, Wicca, and New Age.

Epicurus has two huge virtues that make him worth reading even now.

He is ferociously smart for one. Some of his insights about physical phenomena millenia before the invention of real scientific instruments are astonishing.

The other is that he is unrelentingly honest and rigorous. His premise is that we only know what we can find out from our senses and our reason. This is immensely liberating from all the causistry, tradition, authority, and sentiment of both culture and counter-culture.

To the ultimate rationalization for religion, "Well, it is a comfort for the simple." he responds, "Truth and honesty are better than comfort." He dismissed death as nothing, and proved his point by showing legendary courage in facing his own.

Amazing prayer book

Review Date: 2004-12-28
It is difficult for me decide if this is the best prayer book ever. "Queen of the Apostles Prayerbook" is in a close tie with it.

The "Essential Catholic Prayer Book" is the best prayer book to give some one as a gift or to purchase for yourself if you are seeking gudiance in your prayer life, or are looking for new ways to pray, or returning to prayer after a long absence. It includes many traditional staple prayers and devotions, and those that are less well known, such as the Divine Mercy prayers, the Chaplet for the Infant of Prague, and the most recent set of mysteries that were added to the rosary.

"The Essential Prayer Book's" advantage over the "Queen of the Apostles Prayerbook" is its inclusion of essays on methods of prayers, which provide helpful guidelines. This section encompasses such topics as: how scripture can complement prayer life, how meditatively praying with chaplets differs from basic vocal prayers, and the use of meditation as a source of prayer. Great information for some one who does not have the time or familiarity with writings of people like Theresa of Avila, John of the Crosss or other inspired authors who have written books on approaches of prayer. It also has a great dictionary of terms. This would be a wonderful gift for parishes to give to their faith formation classes.

This is a wonderful summarized book of Catholic Prayers. The author has attempted to really include biblical quotes, as well as quotes from Saints and Doctors of the Church. The author uses a wonderful use of ideas on how to pray, and different ways to pray, while stating that it is the reader's preference of prayer that is best. The chapters discuss the following:

Basic Prayers, Morning Prayers, Daily Prayers, Evening Prayers, Prayers Before Mass, the Order of Mass, Prayers Before Communion, After Communion, After Mass, Before Confession, After Confession, to Jesus Christ Crucified, to the Sacred Heart, to the Holy Name, to the Child Jesus, for Divine Mercy, to the Holy Eucharist, to the Holy Spirit, the Blessed Trinity, Prayers to the Mary, Saints Prayers to Mary, Prayers to Mary Under Special Titles, Devotions, Prayers for Personal Needs, for Particular Groups, for Holidays, Prayers for the Sick, Dying, and Deceased, Prayers for Saintly Intercession, to the Holy Angels, for Friends and Family, for Special Intentions, and lastly the brief manual of ways to pray.

I highly recommend this book!

Essential Indeed!

This book is a lovely compendium of centuries of Catholic tradition in the form of prayer. The book starts off with an introduction to prayer, why we pray, why we should pray, how prayer is found in both the Old and New Testaments and how we can overcome difficulties to prayer. The book ends with a brief "manual" of ways to pray; whether it be praying at a certain time of day, reflective prayer while studying an aspect of life (be it physical or spiritual), different types of prayer (thanksgiving, intercession, contritiion, etc etc).

Between these two chapters are 250 prayers that are steeped in Catholic tradition. Prayers range from everyday prayers known to every Catholic (Our Father, Glory Be, Hail Mary, Apostles Creed), to prayers to Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, prayers to Mary and the Saints and prayers for specific intentions (for the sick, confessional, before/during/after the Mass). There are a number of devotionals and litanies in the book which I found especially spiritual, as well as some of the more well-known chaplets (prayers using rosary-beads as a structure for the prayer) and novenas.

Overall, this is one of the most complete books I've ever read on the topic of prayer. It was well worth the ... I paid for it, and I've spiritually recouped my expense with the first week of use of this book. For someone who relies on structured prayer, this book will be invaluable and will offer some nice tips and guides to help nurture your prayer life. I would (and do) highly recommend this book for anyone who wishes to deepen their prayer life. I think this book would also make a great gift.

It is really written to keep u interested and puts the good and the bad in, which is important. Excellent book!
