I watch the whole series on dvd and the storyline is fascinating.
The whole story has unity and the characters evolve and show complexity
and more than one dimmension. The special effects are not the best, but
that is understandable considering the year of production. Basically
the story is so good that you forget a little in paying too much attention to the details of the effects. The ending is a little rough,
but truly emotional. You really end wondering what will happen next.
There are written novels that fill those gaps and I am plannning to read
some of them in order to know what happens with those loose ends at the end of the TV series.

Past its prime

I remember B5 when it first came out. It was a great series in a desert of unimaginative TV sci-fi programming. I loved it and it was a feature in the short-lived fanzine, Split/Image, which I published back in the 90s. BUT the times have changed. While trying to rewatch old taped programs I have realized that the old charisma is simply no longer there.
Subject matter seems lame and irrelevant and even boring though i enjoy the antics of some of the characters.
This is a different age for a different audience. B5 is best left the relic it has become. If you purchase these videos be sure to understand
their place in the evolution of the genre as they do stand as a testament to a time when G'Kar and Mollari were the only game in town!

Best all Time Science Fiction Saga of All Time as Compelling as the Dune Novels

This is a great show there our 5 Seasons plus spin offs. The shows Five Seasons our best described like a really good Spaghetti sauce. Most shows of this type have a reset botton push each week. But Babylon 5 lets the plot simmer. Alowing the sorry to go place no other show of the time could go. By having things in the 1st season writen into the polt and paying out in later Season and spin offs. Further more Watching Babylon 5 changed my life and maded me a better person as the story is quit powerful. I know if you watch it and give it a chance it will enrich your life for the better. In my Life I have always like Science Fiction before Babylon 5 I only really loved Dune. Which I thought could never be out done. However I Love Babylon 5

Shoddy transfer - strongly advise against

The downloads are all compressed at 24fps. All CGI sequences in Babylon 5 were originally done at 30 fps and thus *all* of them are jerky and highly unnatural. It is incomprehensible how such decision was made and the series botched. I am a big Bab 5 fan but the quality is both so bad (compression-wise) and transferred inappropriately (should have been NTSC) that I can give this only two stars, if not less.

Shame on the distributor, this is short of a scam. Not even the series credits have been properly done. Get the DVDs, this is a rip-off.

One of the Best Sci Fi shows ever on TV

Babylon 5 is often overlooked by mainstream as it was shown totally in syndication and was overshadowed by Star Trek. It was also hard to follow the detailed story as the show was bounced around, pre-empted and shown at odd hours by idiot station managers.

The 1st season might be considered a bit slow as time was taken to introduce characters and situations that became more fully developed in the later seasons. This is made up for by the organic looking ships - something that was completely new at the time and that they spent time to create alien looking aliens - again something new at the time.

Strazynski had to make changes to the main arc of the story to accomodate fans dislike of the actor playing Sinclair which was replaced with Bruce Boxlitner playing Sheridan.

The shows themes are current as they follow how a democratic government slowly becomes a dictatorship and asks questions about good and evil - order and chaos. Patriotism, sacrifice and redempton are also explored making this a very thoughtful show with several moments of humor and beauty. I recomend this show for anyone who likes good Sci Fi.

Hilariously written, entertaining, and somehow plausible, this story is much better than the one borrowed... er... written for a movie with a similar plot. The authors obviously had a great working relationship with Keith's technical mastery and humor paired with Jurasik's Hollywood insight. If you like humorous sci-fi and fantasy a la Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett, this is a must-read!

After a slightly slow start this book takes off making a lot off fun of those who believe in vice all knowing super intelligent aliens. Also one gets a bit of a hilarious alien perspective of our world, i.e. those who like to see a litle fun being made of Hollywood may get a few laughs. In addition, those believing in alien conspiracies get to know one thing that these bigheaded, bigeyed, small, gray ones ultimately may be doing over here.

Slow Start, but worth the wait

Since I like both the authors I decidec to pick up this book. Despite a somewhat slow beginning, this was an excellent book. The wonderfully thoughtout alien that is just not a human in an alien suit is a William H. Keith hallmark. Delightful Alien aliens make this book a keeper. The advanced technology is not used as a crutch to cover a lack of story. This book gets better the second time around, and I found things that I missed the first go 'round. While somewhat implausable, the suspension of disbelief is complete, and you find yourself identifying with the various aliens in this hilarious romp through Hollywood's darker side. Well worth the price.

Got past the cover and loved it.

I'm a fan of Sci-Fi, although not particularly interested in Babylon5. But Pete's an old friend so I thought I'd give his book a try. It takes a little while to get started, but it's great entertainment once you do. The Hollywood and standard space alien cliches are wonderful targets for satire. What emerges is a warm and amusing story. The alien-on-earth and human-in-space storylines were juggled very well. I really had a great time with this one. Way to go, Pete!
