I could not read this book without absolutely bawling. It's a tender and sweet memoire of love, and of all the lasting things that a parent or grandparent teaches one---those things that stay in your head your whole life. I especially liked that as the grandparent in the book get sicker, the little boy finds ways to take care of his grandpa, to be kind and loving to him, and to continue creating beautiful memories while they have time left together. I'm crying as I'm writing this, thinking about it! I would have a hard time reading this book to a child without weeping myself, but it is a truly lovely book.

This is a wonderful book for young children because of the love it shows between generations. Yes it was a tear jerker at times, but the underlying message of love in a family is what grabbed our attention. I read this to my grandson the last time he visited from colorado, and the part that made the biggest impression on us was to make the memories every chance we can. We touched each other on the noses when he left to go home and repeated the words "till we meet again." My husband just returned from a visit to colorado, when he said good bye to Garrett (age 5)..they again repeated those words!! So, thank you susan for writing this book, we have adapted your advice into our relationship with our grandson!

Susan's book is a neccessary addition to all family libraries. It tells an important lesson about making special memories so those we have lost can be remembered in small but incredibly profound ways. Having recently lost my Dad, it warmed my heart and helped me to see the importance of the circle of life and how it brings us hope and joy.

As a son, a parent and a grandparent, this book brings home the importance of making memories with those you love. It made me realize that I should make more time with my father, and spend that time as real quality time to capture those memories as ones that I will treasure forever. It helped me to take the time with my father in rekindling childhood experiences that we shared growing up and we spent many hours laughing and reminiscing over those times. I sincerely hope that other readers will benefit from this book and take the time to make memories with those in their lives who are so important to them. Now that my father has passed on recently, I am so fortunate that this book has given me the chance to pass these memory making traditions to my children and grandchildren.

After reading this book, you realize the Author has brought her own experiences with death to help children figure out that most times death doesn't come fast, its a long, drawn out process. She uses 64 pages of full-page-Max Lucado-style pencil drawings of real people to tell her story. By having the child who is telling the story grow up to become a Grandfather with a Grandchild of his own, Author lets children know that death is part of life and that they will survive. The use of memories to help ease the pain of death is a immediate technique children can use to cope. The balloons remind you of the children's book "The Red Balloon" but they are actually something the Author did for her Father. Older children can read the book themselves as the writing flows easily and Author uses a lot of recognizable everyday action and details going on between the three generations to move the story along. Children easily understand and quickly grasp the concepts of surviving death that the Author wants to get across to children. That is one advantage of having a teacher write a Children's book. Written for the secular audience, you can easily put "God" into various sentences for the religious audience. As a professional, certified librarian, I really like this book and recommend it.

This is a GREAT reference for medical students!! Let's be honest, there is SO much to memorize and be able to pull out of at a moments notice. It's nice to have a little pocket cheat sheet to look at before you blurt out your answer to the attending and make a dork of yourself if you say the wrong answer. Definitely helpful to have!!

ECG Success: Exercises in ECG Interpretation

I love this book! All the illustrations and ECG strips are in full color. My students and the staff in our five hospitals use this book in class, during clinical rotations, and for CPR, and ACLS recertification.

The bonus is that it includes current CPR and ACLS protocols, emergency medications, and emergency skills (i.e., pacing, defibrillation, etc.). All this packed into a 200 page waterproof pocket guide. All the arrhythmias are covered, over 100 real-life ECG strips are included, plus 12-lead. And you will never get confused with lead placement or measureing ECG tracing intervals again...this book has it all! Healthcare providers use this handy guide during CPR and ACLS recertification all the time. Plus it helps them sharpen their skills. As we all know ECG interpretation takes practice, practice practice!

This is a great book for anyone who is a fan, but also a real treat for people living in the metro-Detroit area, as a few of the celebrities asked are local TV and radio stars. She wrote to a lot of people over the years and has a great collection of stars' heroes, from Soupy Sales to Les Paul and of course Davy Jones! It's neat to find out who inspired the celebrities to be who they are today.

What a great concept for a book!

Mary Guerra is an authority on fandom as she is a member of a fanclub or two herself. I know this since she belongs to the fanclub I run for Davy Jones, Davy Devotees. Though the concept of fandom is normally perceived as being something the nonfamous possess, Mary spent years contacting various celebrities asking them just who they consider themselves a fan of and what fanclubs they would join if they could! She received personal responses from legends in the field of entertainment like RoseMarie and Phyllis Diller to Les Paul, inventor of the electric guitar, Richard Petty, of racing fame, columnist, Liz Smith and "Mr. Hockey" Gordie Howe. Shirley Jones, Peter Noone and Mary's personal favorite, Davy Jones of The Monkees, are just a few of the many other highlighted celebrities. If you've been a fan of anyone at anytime, this book gives you an interesting look at who those we admire actually admire. At times the featured celebrities provide laughs and at other times intriguing revelations. Overall this is a fun read with a lot of heart!

This book is fabulous. My husband and I found it to be a quick, entertaining read. We particularly enjoyed the entry from Mike Clark, our favorite radio DJ. It's interesting to see what people celebrities find heroic, and it conveys more of an inside look into their personality as well.

ECG Notes: Interpretation And Management Guide

This book saved me during my ECG rotation! I think the author tells it all in her preface to the book:

No one is born knowing how to read ECG strips. We learn to do many things in a lifetime, and nearly all of them get better with practice. If you're planning to use this book, ECG isn't completely new to you--you have a good idea of what's involved in generating and interpreting a tracing.

ECG Success covers all the information you will need--anatomy and physiology, practice, and case scenarios, and relevant emergency care--to help you feel competent and in control, whether the situation involves an emergency or just a nonthreatening ECG. This book has staying power. You will find its content useful across a spectrum of situations, from classroom study through clinical experience and later in actual practice.

Pattern recognition lies at the heart of ECG interpretation. This skill develops with experience, gained through repetition and variety. You need to see the same patterns over and over again, but you also need to see as great a diversity as possible. In ECG Success you'll find more than 550 ECG tracings.

The book is organized into four units. First, two introductory chapters review the background information you need for working with ECG. Chapter One discusses heart anatomy and physiology, including biomechanics and electrophysiology. Chapter Two gives you the basics of ECG: limb and chest leads, electrode placement, cable connections, components of a tracing, rhythm strip analysis, and more.

In Unit II, seven chapters explain and illustrate the different types of rhythm, some dangerous, others merely troublesome, and a few even normal. Each of these chapters gives you a group of nine practice strips to analyze, with the answers given at the end of the chapter. All types of arrhythmias are discussed and illustrated: sinus, atrial, junctional, and ventricular; atrioventricular and bundle branch blocks; artifact; and artificial pacemaker rhythm. The section ends with a chapter on myocardial infarction and the 12-lead ECG.

The chapter practice strips will warm you up for Unit III, the working core of the book. You'll find four test chapters with a total of 300 strips and the answers given at the end of each chapter so you can check your work. In case you're hungry for more, the two chapters in Unit IV comprise eleven real-life case studies, followed by multiple-choice questions and illustrated by more ECG strips. Four appendices round out the book: Healthcare Provider Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Advanced Cardiac Life Support Protocols, Emergency Medications, and Emergency Medical Skills.

As you page through this book you'll find some special features to guide you. In Units I and II, frequent Clinical Tips provide valuable information on how an arrhythmia can affect the patient. Hints on rhythm interpretation appear throughout the first practice strip chapter.

I couldn't have written this book without building up a track record of my own ECG successes. The secret: I had a good instructor who was patient and explained everything in detail. She kept emphasizing that we had to follow every step when analyzing a rhythm; shortcuts are dangerous because you can miss critical details on the rhythm strip. Then we had to practice, practice, practice. That repetition, combined with careful attention to every step, was the real key to my success.

Take your time now, and use ECG Success to improve your skills. Once you run into a genuine emergency you will have only minutes, or less, to interpret the ECG correctly and ensure the right treatment for the patient.

Most up-to-date fantastic ECG book!

ECG Notes: Interpretation And Management Guide

The key to ECG interpretation is pattern recognition, and pattern recognition is developed the same way as any skill--through repetition.

ECG Success illustrates the key features of all arrhythmias and presents multiple practice strips to allow the student to learn the subtle findings that help distinguish one from another. Organized by the seven categories of arrhythmias, ECG Success reviews the basics of ECGs (anatomy, physiology, electrophysiology, etc.), and provides a diverse group of strips for practice and testing pattern recognition. In addition, the book includes four practice tests, each with 75 randomized ECG strips, and a unit with more than ten case studies with multiple-choice questions and more ECG strips.

ECG Success covers all the information needed--anatomy and physiology, practice, case scenarios, and relevant emergency care--to help the reader feel competent and in control, whether faced with a nonthreatening ECG or an emergency situation.

Key Features
* 272 pages, soft cover, full color
* 455 full size, real life ECG strips
* Strips presented three ways: identified by type of problem, randomized, and embedded in case studies

This book, by new author Shirley Jones is absolutely a fabulous first work outlining her experience leading up to, and during the events of November 10. Better than Eadie's "Embraced by the Light", this is a very real account of an Iowa woman, who in the early 1960's establishes her home & family, yet the birth of the couple's first child brings about a unique and unexpected twist. About the length of "Jonathan Livingston Seagull", yet Jones' "November 10" is huge in depth, eloquence and interest. Pick it up for your next flight. Highly recommended.

This novel by Shirley Jones is a compelling novel that you will not soon forget. The author writes in a manner that allows the reader to enter her life and participate in the joy and excitement of her life with her new husband as they await the birth of their first child. Reading the novel is like finding a new friend and I shared both laughter and tears with the author as I read this book. I keep watching and hoping that Shirley Jones will be on a book tour this year so I can have her autograph my copy; I'm anxious to meet her because I feel we're already friends.

I have read this book cover to cover several times and take something different from it each time. This book is an incredible and fascinating combination of humor and tragedy -- and even humor IN tragedy, showing all of us that even those who may appear to have perfect lives of the television or silver screen face real-life problems when the cameras are shut off. What makes this book fantastic is seeing the real people behind the personas and the ability to benefit from the important lessons learned in this unique relationship.

The amazing story of two people who make each other happy although they are totally opposite. America's sweetheart and the often misunderstood, agoraphoic comedian who won her heart. Told from both sides of the relationship - frenzy and flowers. The writing style is engaging and you'll see people you know - you'll feel like part of the family.

This collection of thoughts from around the world emphasizes that wisdom is not limited to technologically advanced society but, in fact, is often found most profoundly in the simplest of cultures. The editor has assembled words of many people in a manner that shows clearly how related all peoples are, how our thoughts, emotions, and perceptions are not limited by the physical and cultural barriers we normally perceive, and how humor, grace, and insight light up lives in all cultures.

This is a very interesting and fascinating story of a lady who over-came tremendous odds to accomplish a very different task which lead to her becoming the first woman to coach an all male football team. Her great perseverance, dedication, faith, and family seemed to have provided the foundation for success through out her life (particularly in her education and career). She never let anything pervent her from reaching her goals regardless of the difficulty. It's a wonderful story of one becoming anything they want to with faith, confidence and persistency. A must read for all ages!
