These extracts from Angelina's journal provide a unique insight into the plight of refugees all over the world. It is heart-wrenching to read about the terrible ordeals these people have faced during war & continue to face even after the fighting is over. The courage they show during such adversity is humbling & inspiring to the last page. A must-read book if you have any interest in the plight of your fellow man.

Angelina Jolie has a very personal connection with those who are in hard circumstances like the poor in Africa, one can speculate why but cannot realistically claim it is not sincere. She spends a lot of her time and money there and writes with warmth and humility. She expresses appreciation for those things in other areas that help keep poverty and related problems at bay. A good read as a eyewitness account of what people are going through but also a meaningful social commentary, most of all I find this book an inspiring example of how to bravely contribute whatever one can.

One of the most treasured books in my home library, Angie's courage and compassion for those less fortunate comes alive in every page of this book. This book is very inspiring and very humbling at the same time. My respect for Angelina has increased a thousand fold from reading this gem...plus she is donating all her proceeds to the UNHCR! I hope she writes more books!

Everyone interested in humanitarian work should read this!

This was a great book, i am soo glad i bought it. It really made things real and showed you the reality of what goes on in the world outside the bubble of your own perspective and own country. I would recommend this for everyone, even if your not an angelina fan because everyone should know about these living conditions that are how a large portion of the world are subjected too and it really makes you appreciate what you have. I wish that the book was longer i loved it so much!.

After having read Mariane's book "A Mighty Heart" and after have seen the movie as well, what else could I say but this : Mariane is a great person who would have all the reasons to hate the whole world but instead of that, she tries to understand people in distress, people confronted to huge problems. This book perfectly shows us that if there is goodwill, there is hope for solutions, there is hope for a better world.
I really recommend this book to those who believe there is no hope for a better future !

I was very impressed when I received this book in 2 days instead of the usual week or so. I love the book too! It is a beautiful book, and very inspiring. I gave it to a best friend who is lending it to me and then will lend it to others to see. The author made a beautiful book and her words are very touching. Women and men need to read this book! The world needs to get inspired by women who have made a difference in this war-like civilization we live in!

I ordered 3 or 4 of these for Christmas gifts for women I knew of all ages, and the hardcover version is a really nice gift, large enough in size and quality made to make an excellent gift. They all were quite honored to receive them.

Many people know Mariane Pearl only as the widow of Daniel Pearl, who wrote a memoir, and had a movie made about her life starring the megastar Angelina Jolie. People forget that Mariane Pearl is a journalist and a good journalist at that.

Pearl has been faced with the kind of hatred that makes it easy for someone to give up. Mariane Pearl never gave up and she disarms her enemies by writing this book, filled with beautiful, moving photographs, and earnest, honest accounts of women all over the globe making a difference. There's women fighting against human trafficking, oppression, violence, disease, and injustice...this book is inspiring and it opens the eyes we can no longer close.

Read this book, be inspired, and act on it. Pearl has shown us that we can change the world in small ways and it is all up to us to make the difference. Call it cheesy, cliché, what you will...but it's the complete truth.

Loved this!!! Great pictures and great insight into a wonderful person's world. Being a fan I had heard most of the stories from Angelina interviews in the past, but there were some things that surprised me. It also offered a lot of information on her marriages and why they didn't work out.

Wow! A great read!

This biography on Angelina Jolie was very well written and informative. The book included tons of fun facts about her, and had alot of great pictures. I enjoyed the book very much and would absolutely recommend it. If you're a Jolie fan, this book is for you. I also recommend Notes from My Travels by Angelina. That book was very touching and inspirational. I highly recommend both books.

The book is a short read, 144 pages. It has a nice assortment of black and white photos, no color photos except the front and back covers. If you have been following Angelina for some time now, you'll already have seen most of these photos. Most of the photos are either screen shots and promotions, or from various award ceremonies. As a long time fan of Angelina, I was surprised to see that this book had a good bit of information on her that I didn't already know. There's a lot of quotes from magazines. The author breaks down most of Angelina's movies, and I do think he spends a tad too much time describing the other actors in these movies. Either way, it is a cheap book and a nice addition to a fan's collection, also a great read for the brand new fan. I recommend!

I FOUND THIS BOOK ABOUT ANGELINA TO BE A GOOD READ. IT IS SHORT AND SWEET, EASY TO READ. IT COVERS HER LIFE AND CAREER IN GENERAL WITHOUT A GREAT DEAL OF DETAIL. IF YOU LIKE TO READ ABOUT THE MOVIES SHE HAS MADE AND A BIT ABOUT HER PRIVATE LIFE, THEN THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU. IT HAS MANY PICS AND IS A NICE KEEPSAKE IF YOU ENJOY THIS GORGEOUS AND TALENTED ACTRESS. A NICE BUY.

I'm an Angelina Jolie fan and had hoped to learn a lot about her by reading this biography. I was seriously disappointed. I didn't learn much, as well as the book was not well written. I felt like half the book was dedicated to reviewing her movies or telling more about the movie plots, which I don't care about. I wanted to learn more about Angelina Jolie as a person, and frankly, this book didn't teach me much. It was a waste of my time to read.

Princess Christianna of Liechtenstein was a beautiful, but sheltered daughter of a dominate King who was used to getting his own way. After she graduated from college in the United States, she didn't want to return to her country to perform meaningless princess duties as her father wanted. She wanted to make a difference and use her position and education to help others. She got the chance when her father weakened his grip and allowed her to volunteer for the Red Cross in East Africa if she went incognito with body guards. While she was there, she met and fell in love with an American Doctor who was on a brief assignment. None of the volunteers knew she was a Princess, including the doctor, until one day, the secret got out. By then it was too late, the couple was already in love. When he found out, her father forbids her to marry a commoner even though he was a well-educated and handsome physician. Through a series of unforeseen events, Christianna and the doctor did get-together and lived happily ever after. A fairy-tale Danielle Steel novel!

I started reading this book and it was pretty good. I agree that it seems like a child wrote it, especially during "and they made love" part. The ending left me mad. I thought it was stupid to just end it as "he smiled and she smiled and they lived happily ever after".. I was very disappointed in this book.. and it had a lot of stupid parts that I just skimmed throught.. the whole story wasn't bad, it was just kinda stupid in some parts and like I said, the ending.

Not great

This book was a let down. It's the first book I have ever read by Danielle Steel and I hope to never read another one. It was so boring that I felt like I was wading through every page.

I suppose there's a reason I never read a Danielle Steel novel before. The plot is lacking, the characters are thin, and the writing is mediocre. And this is from a best selling author?

A self absorbed heroine

Review Date: 2008-01-28
H.R.H. was a disappointing book. The heroine, Princess Christianna was a totally self absorbed young lady who we are told repeatedly was giving of herself. She clearly despises visiting the sick and orphans who are her country people, yet is consumed with doing exactly this type of activity when it is in Africa. She despises her lack of meaningful activity, but then visits London and parties all night and finds it fulfilling. When faced with crisis, she totally dissolves into tears and makes no effort to pull herself together. When her presence may mean danger to others, she thinks only of what she wants to do herself. The presentation of Africa/ Africans was at least 30 years out of date. The treatment of Africa as a single entity (instead of a variety of countries) was demeaning to the continent, as well as the suggestion that local Eritreans didn't have local midwives until someone arrives from Europe. Within the "medical compound" where Christianna stays in Eritrea, there are aids patients, but apparently no critical illness or death, because the staff doesn't have any night shifts. The local peoples are relegated to pouring water over the Europeans for their showers, rather than being able to do any meaningful activity, and they prepare western food, apparently because the local food is unacceptable to the volunteers who supposedly "love" Africa. Danielle Steel would do a service to her readers by doing a little bit of research.

I liked this book, it contained great pictures and a lot of information.I don't give it 5 stars because I don't think the author really checked if the facts was true, because some things wasn't. And it was too much facts about other people in it.
If you really are a fan you should buy it, you will love the pictures.

okay the book was very well written and the facts and every thing was awesome but I wish it would of told more about Angelina's feelings and thoughts. There is a lot of pictures in the book and they are very nice. I love Angelina Jolie and the book gives you a lot of trival things about her. I loved the pictures of her in high school that was cool. The only two things that werent good was it didn't show her feelings and thougths and of course it is not up to date. It says nothing about Her and Billy Bob spliting and abopting Maddox but it is a little older for that. Good book

If you are a fan of Angelina, this book will not tell you anything you do not already know. Very poorly written, the author obviously threw this book together in a quick attempt to cash in on the AJ craze. However, I did enjoy the photos, they make a nice addition to your collection. If you'd like to get to know AJ a little better, try the book Angelina Jolie's Journals: Notes From My Travels, written by Angelina herself. She takes you behind the scenes for a personal look at her work as an ambassador.

Why oh why did i buy this book? Oh yes... in a fit of madness i fell in love with angelina jolie and spent too much money on her dvd's and this book. I wish I had read marcia's review... this book has a gorgeous cover but inside is just a compilation of magazine articles and speculation. i would have given the book one star- but threw in the extra one for the highschool pics of angelina and this color pic that makes her look like a housewife. However if I were you- i wouldn't waste your money on this book for the pictures because there's not many. then again- we all have to learn from our own mistakes right?

Okay to read if you are amateur to Jolie's life

Review Date: 2008-03-22
I have been an Angelina Jolie fan since she was pregnant with Shiloh. It hasn't been too long but I already heard most about the things that were in the biography from a single, but thorough fansite of Angelina's, [...].

Brandon Hurst DID give good information on Angelina's childhood, which many people, including fans, don't know about but want to know; such as the rumors and exaggerations of Angie's very young love life. The whole "first chapter" in the book strictly covered Angelina's parents' life from before, during, and after Angie's birth, including what really went on about her father cheating on Marcheline, Angie's mother.

Most of the rest of the book mostly told you what tabloids tell you. If you are buying this biography to know what went on "behind the scenes" of the Jennifer-Brad-Angelina ordeal, don't expect to find out anything new because no one except Angelina and Brad knows what really happend so the author could only tell you as much as the rest of the world knows. But if you don't know much about Angelina, her childhood, her parents, early acting career, and beyond, this touches major points in her life that is good for the unknowledged fan of Angelina Jolie.

A decent bio but borrows too much from tabloids
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2007-03-14
I give this biography three stars b/c it allows the reader to read a bit more about Angelina's childhood that is not prev. known. The author goes out of his way to make it clear to the reader that the image and the woman are two different things. To get people to go beyond the shocking headlines and judgement.

However, a great deal of this book is simply a rehash of tabloid articles. The author tries to be fair to Jolie, and is for the most part, but there is no real stucture to it, it has way too many borrowed quotes from tabloids that make up a great deal. There are some phrases and discriptions of both Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt towards the end that are rather crude and unfair. Perhaps I'm being too hard on this book but frankly I was expecting better. I purchased this book because I'm a fan of Angelina Jolie so I already know alot about her. I was hoping to get a less tabloid point of view about her life and career. Like I said it takes so much from British rags that it's hard to know what is real and what is actually from Ms. Jolie.

This book provides exactly what you want - a list of addresses for basically every relevant celebrity in the world. Many books on this subject contain lots of pages filled with useless recommendations and sample letters, all of which are easily accessible on the internet.

If you are an autograph junkie, fundraiser or just a big fan of celebrities, this is the book for you. Get your letters ready because you will have more than enough addresses to start working with.

Worthless, Dated, A Complete Waste of Money

Many of the people listed in the pdf. are dead; a shocking number of the supposed celebrities can be contacted only through a medium. Unless you're interested in communing with the spirit world, skip this volume entirely. A complete waste of money, with incomplete addresses, typos galore, contact numbers through agencies rather than personal info; a complete waste of your time, and your money.
