I really liked this book. It was about Stephanie and her friends at camp sail-away. She met her boyfriend out on the water. He was water skiing and the wave he created knocked her boat over. He came over to see if she was ok and one thing led to another. I would recommend this book because it was cool, exciting and you never know what would happen next.

I just became a STAR WARS fan this year with the release of the Special Editions. I won this book at an author signing and trivia contest in Orlando. I carried it with me to school and all my Star Wars buddies went and bought a copy, too. Now we spend our lunch periods testing each other's knowledge of droids, ships, characters, villains, planets, etc. It is the best! Lots and lots of fun! Plus, I met one of the authors at the bookstore and he was so cool to talk to. Nice and friendly and wearing jeans. I hope he does another STAR WARS book

A STAR WARS book that needed to be done years ago!

If you've ever engaged your hyperdrive, come of age on Dagobah, lost at Holomonster, or thrilled to the fastest combat starfighter in the Rebel Alliance, here's your chance to prove it-in the first ever trivia book for fans of the classic science-fiction trilogy. But watch out-even Yoda was stumped...test your knowledge of: All three STAR WARS movies, including the 20 anniversary commemorative SPECIAL EDITIONS; Divided into several thematic categories, over 1,300 questions (and 300+ pages) will test your knowledge of the SW universe with STAR POWER (ships to speeder bikes), I, ROBOT (droids), STAR TECH (technical specs, etc.), EWOK THIS WAY (Ewoks, of course), STAR WARFARE (self-explanatory), ALIEN FACES & PLACES (alien races and planets), WANTED: DEAD OR ALIVE (galactic bounty hunters), REBEL RUMBLINGS & IMPERI AL TRANSMISSIONS (dialogue with missing words, which you have to figure out or match to the character who spoke the line), etc. Interspersed throughout the book are dossiers of Luke (FROM FARM BOY TO JEDI KNIGHT), Lei (PRINCESS BY VIRTUE, REBEL BY CHOICE) , Han (SMUGGLER'S BLUES), Vader (LORD OF THE DARK SIDE), etc. and all the trivia questions in those categories cover the designated characters. Plus nitpicker's guides (bloopers, snafus, screw-ups, etc.), behind-the-scenes and other obscure stuff. The book covers ALL three movies, plus questions on the SPECIAL EDITIONS. At the end of the book, you calculate your correct answers and refer to the scoring legend, which will determine if you are a Jedi Master, Defender of the Galaxy ( Full-Fledged Jedi Knight), Guardian of Justice and Freedom (Jedi Knight-Errant), or down to the worst level-sarlacc snackfood! I hate to use an often-mentioned phrase, but I couldn't put the book down! It was fun, fun, fun! No STAR WARS fan should be without this special 20th anniversary edition

If you're really into home theatre or are just getting started collecting DVDs, you have got to have this book! It lists almost 2,000 movies with a story and a picture of the DVD box, but best of all, it gives professional reviews of the picture and sound quality so you know which movies will show off best on your home theatre equipment. It also tells you about all the extra features that DVDs come with. There are articles about DVD software, reviews of DVD players, articles about how movies are made and a lot of other awesome stuff like DVD-ROM and the difference between widescreen and pan-and-scan movies.

It doesn't get any better!

The Ultimate Widescreen DVD Movie Guide is a must for everyone who loves to watch DVD. Widescreen Review has done a wonderful job to create an informative, technically brilliant and easy to read guide for every owner of a DVD-player. The 555 pages provides you with every data you can imagine: DVD reviews (technical data, a short story line, picture and sound rating), facts and inside looks on the DVD industry, a DVD-player buyer's guide, a DVD-ROM review section, complete listings of DTS- and THX-DVDs and a complete set of DVDs FAQs. For everyone new to this hobby it's great to get an explanation on the various aspect ratios movies do have. It simplifys things a lot just to open the magazine and show someone the facts when explaining why it's better to have a 16:9 TV set instead of a 4:3 or why on a normal TV the black bars are good things and not bad ones. Another interesting section is the 70mm movie list which shows every movie made in this format from 1929 until today. Complete with studio, soundtrack, original photography format and notes. Don't we movie buffs love things like this. The DVD FAQs are interesting stuff for beginners and even "experts" can learn a thing or two. All in all the issue, which is thicker than some telephone books I know of, is worth every penny spent. I'm really looking forward to get my hands on the next issue 2002. Congratulations to the staff for doing an excellent job.

An excellent reference guide

This book is great. As a Spanish teacher, I can use it to encourage my students to read and enjoy things in the language they are learning. The material is already familiar to them and it makes it easier for them to read. The students love reading their favorite classic stories in another language. Even though it isn't authentic reading material from a Spanish speaking country, it is a wonderful book!

I bought this book for my 5 year old daughter , she is bilingual and she loves Disney stories . She loves it , we also have the stories in english so she enjoys the same stories in both languages . It is a great book , the translation is really good.
The only comment I have heard from her is that not all the pictures have colors , she would like to have all of them in color but she still enjoys it, it is a great buy.

This is the eighth book of Movie Posters that I have purchased from Bruce Hershenson and each time I remark on the extremely high quality of the reproductions. This is obviously a job done from the heart but the visual aspects of the book strikes something in the sub-conscious and suddenly you are back in some cinema watching that movie again. More than just a coffee-table book but a reference source and one to take to work and get a discussion going as an alternative to football. A great read and highly recommended.

Bruce has done it again. In one book he has included the best and most graphically appealing posters from the greatest WAR movies of all times. Not only does he have the U.S. posters but many times he has selected the foreign poster that has better graphics. When you view this book you will be "transported" back to the films that you loved. I had forgotten about many of the great WWII films that I saw as a kid until seeing Bruce's book. How will he top this??

THE ART OF WAR

Review Date: 2001-02-13
This is arguably the finest entry in the Bruce Hershenson published series of film genre graphics books. Though all of his volumes are impeccable in style and presentation, this book approaches film advertising illustration not only as art, but as world history. Instead of compiling war film posters in order of their release year, they are here presented chronologically by the time of the actual war itself, adding profound depths of sociological and psychological perspective to the long sad history of hell on Earth. I write this review not for all the film buffs out there or poster collectors or illustrators, but to historians, to all teachers and students of the human journey. Here, from flag waving to burning, are the images of war as hope, promise, necessity, waste and despair. More than the films themselves with all their shooting and shouting, these posters silently command and provoke our senses all the way to the last shreds of wonder.

Don't let the heading full you, this story is just a movie. but based on the real life characters of the orginal Nightmare series. However as exciting as The movie novelization is, The author puts a new twist on things as he put himself in the situation. With journals and all. David is haunted by the Dream master himself. So to find out what happens to The Elm street crew and David Bergentino.....Buy the book....It's only a book....isn't it?

The perfect novelization to the last (Sure it is) Nightmare on Elm Street movie. The book itself is an interesting read and the photos are worth a look. The entire mood of the movie is caught on the pages and if you love these movies like I do, you won't be able to put it down.

An Author's Best Nightmare Come True

Review Date: 1998-11-09
This novelization (of probably the best film in the Elm Street series) is an incredible work of fiction. The story of a film crew who discovers that their fictional creation, Freddy, is all to real is superbly acted out. Credit should go to Wes Craven for his script, but Bergantino made great additions to this piece, such as: excerpts from a (fictional?) journal in which David begins having bad dreams; clippings of (fictional?) news articles discussing bizzare deaths; and characterization which is so believable that one cannot doubt that David talked to the actual crew of the film. The book focusses more on the psycological effects on the characters than on blood and gore. Don't get me wrong, in the scenes where gore abounds -- boy, does it abound. But in the scenes where the characters are hit with the realization that what they have acted as and with is actually real and attacking them, one cannot help but be moved. In conclusion: read the book, see the film, and have pleasant dreams.

This is an excellent book about the making of WILD WILD WEST. It even includes the script. The critics were not to kind to this film starring Will Smith and Kevin Kline. However, if you have seen the film and examine this book will begin to appreciate what actually went in to the making of this motion picture. Technically there was a lot more than meets the eye or the eye was aware of in the production of this film. Complex special effects, intricate set designs, costumes, makeup and gadgetry were well thought out to have a look and feel of post Civil War America. This book is brilliantly illustrated with photographs and drawings covering every aspect of the move. If you like films and filmmaking you should enjoy this book.

HEARTWRENCHING AND COMPELLING...

Review Date: 2004-12-22
Harvard University professor Susan Selky, separated from her husband, Graham, lets her six year old son, Alex, walk the several blocks to his school all by himself. One morning she says good bye to him, not realizing until later in the day, when he does not return home after school, that he simply never made it to school that morning. He had simply disappeared without a trace.

The police are notified and an immediate manhunt ensues for the missing boy. The story follows the impact that the boy's disappearance has on Susan and Graham, as well as the reaction of those closest to them and of the public at large. It explores their relationship, as well as their relationship with others in the context of the tragedy that has befallen them. You definitely feel Susan's pain.

Sensitively drawn and well-written, the book explores the avenues that Susan travels in her steadfast search for her son. It is a story of hope, loss, and faith, despite seemingly insurmountable odds. What happens is sure to keep the reader on the edge of his or her seat. The author plays on the reader's emotions and keeps the tension taut throughout the story, making for a real pager turner of a book. The suspense is kept up until the very end, where it boils over into a crescendo of a finale. This is, without a doubt, one of the best suspense novels to be found.

First published over twenty years ago, this popular book was subsequently released again under the title, "Still Missing".

I read this back in high school almost 20 years ago and the book still stays with me. The author gives an almost chilling tale of loss, and the range of emotions that a parent can go through. While it can be a hard read at time because of the subject matter it's a most satisfying read.

This is a heartbreaking story of a little boy that gets dressed for school, walks around the corner and disappears. His mother only begins to panic when he is late home from school, only to subsequently realise that he didn't make it there.

There are a huge amount of emotions played out through the course of the book, guilt, fear, pain, loss, and I felt heartsick for the mother, who lost her boy over and over again, after all the police leads led nowhere.

Having a son almost the same age as the one that went missing in this book made me very emotional, rethink the amount of independence I should grant him and constantly drill in the whole 'stranger' scenario. Therefore, the book did it's job!

I really love this calendar. Because who doesn't have fond memories of "The Wizard of Oz" or Judy Garland? The pictures are really beautiful. There's only 1 black and white and the rest are all in color. The paper isn't the shiny magazine type of paper, instead it's thicker and doesn't have a glare to it; so IMO this almost gives it a retro or a nostalgic look. I also enjoy how each month is color-coded. For example February is in pink and red, March is green and of course July is red, white & blue! My favorite month is April because this includes a lovely picture of Dorothy and Glenda. With the "Wizard of Oz" every day this year can be a good day, if you work at it!

Past Wizard of Oz calendars have had colorized and bastardized images from the movie that I suppose were considered "artistic," however, for die-hard fanatics like me who want their images "pure," this calendar offers real frame-blowups (done well, too) from the actual film itself. Fun graphics and comments throughout, this is the nicest licensed Oz calendar in years.

We bought this book when my son was 1 1/2. We all fall in love with this book. The colorful pictures really draw his attention. He especially loves the pages with planes, boats and construction equipment. My son is now 2 1/2 and still enjoys the book. However I would hope the publisher would have the board book verion. The thin pages would be torn easily because we read it everyday. I highly recommend this book to all parents.
