This novel works like a huge and beautiful testimony of the years before the Great War in Europe. It transcends the limits of the genre and becomes a great Encyclopedia full of fascinating characters, archetypes and allegories. The intelectual battle between Naphta and Settembrini (the religious and social view between the liberal and individualistic perspective) is, maybe, the most perfect chronicle of a philosophical and political controversy that hasn't end yet.
At the end we all scream with the chilling scene of the duel and cry with Hans Castorp`s fate.

Nana's Bible Stories will definitely become a Christian children's classic. The stories are told with such vivid description and from the point of view of very relatable characters. Nana has Balaam's Donkey give us the skinny in "A Donkey's Tale". The story of David and Goliath is related by one of David's more timid friends. We experience the parable of the Lost Sheep as we frisk along with a rebellious little lamb and we view the crucifixion through the eyes of a sad and curious butterfly. I have heard each of the Bible stories since childhood but Nana manages to make them fresh and give them more vivid life. I can not recommend this book highly enough. It is a must have for those of us who wish to pass on Biblical values to our children and grandchildren in a way that they will never forget. Don't be surprised if while reading them you are moved to laughter and tears. It is part of Nana's magic. Don't miss this book.

This is by far my favorite english book I've ever had! The content is organized so well that it's incredibly easy to find whatever you're looking for. I didn't even have to really read anything because I could so easily find what I was looking for. Very nice! The language is simple, concise, not inflated, and straight to the point. Very easy to understand.

Princess in the Pigpen is the best, I want to give it 5 stars. Elizabeth was really sick and Sukie first gave her a bath and dried her off and then put her in bed.
When she lay down in the bed, this light struck her in the face when Sukie opened the curtains. When she rolled over away from the light, she was in a different place. This man was standing by her.
He asked her "What are you doing here, miss?" in amazement. She started calling for her dog and Sukie but they didn't come. She tried so many times but they still didn't come. Than this woman came in and put her hand on her forehead. The lady said that she (Elizabeth) was ill so they took her to the doctor and she took a look at her. She took off Elizabeth's dress and gave her some medicine to make her feel better.
After they took her to the doctors, they took her to get their daughter. They hate each other at first, but after a little bit later, they become friends. They have a lot of fun together.
The girl goes into the barn to get Elizabeth back home to get some medicine for her mother. They do a lot to get back home. I know I left out a lot but I'm running out of time. Trust me, you'll love this book!!!!!!

this book details the story of a young princess from the 1600's who is transported into the future to the year 1988. the charming fairy tale of sorts follows her story as she befriends the family whose pigpen she has appeared in, manages to find her way back home, and saves her dying mother in the process. well written to be pleasurable reading, its the perfect choice for that special little girl in your life.

The illistration of this book is as good as it gets. The artwork is detailed and life like. I found not only did it draw my eye to it, but my 4 and 7 yr olds as well. The story is simple, but wonderful. It draws you to the place it describes. I was competely taken by it's illistration. It is about a grandfather who takes his grandsons on a trip to find where the river beings. What I also found about this book, is that although it has fairly simple words, it threw in some ones that are proably new to children of this age. It gave me an opportunity to teach new words like "meandnered lazily". I enjoyed the book as much as my children did and I am ready to find more books by this wonderful author and illistrator. I give it my highest rating!

We picked up this book on a whim at the used book store, and we've worn our copy ragged. Not only are the paintings breathtaking, the story is sweet and it became my daughter's favorite for months. You'll want to pull out the pages and frame them, then go camping.

I bought this book to help me with a quilt I was planning to make. At first I was disappointed and then I realized that having taken some floral arranging classes I might enjoy this book. Boy did I ever! The information is marvelous and well planned and extremely helpful. There is much you can learn about flowers and how to treat them from this book. Instead of returning it as I had originally thought I would, I find myself looking things up all the time.

I saw Jane on "Martha Stewart" where she was talking about her work for the Duchess of York's wedding and i was hooked. World Flowers is one of the most incredible books available on floral design. Each chapter represents a different country-- and the influences and ideas as they apply to flowers. The best part-- she gives easy tips to create these arrangements on your own. imagine-- putting single light pink roses inside individual pale pink cupcake papers, and arranging them on stacked cake plates. So delightful!

I have a child who is Autistic and 3 1/2 years old who fell in love with this book. He carries it around with him, although it is a bit big. His father (me) is a well known wildlife photographer who is an admirer of the photographic talent displayed in this publication. I recommend this publication highly to those who have an interest in African wildlife and the preservation of endangered and threatened animal populations. The only way this book may have been improved is if they used some of the photos that my sons father took. I still give it 5 stars!

This book is so much more than just a grief journey. It is a journey of faith and love and hope as well. Ms. Wipf's writing is eloquent and the photographs of her son are beautiful. We feel honored to be allowed to share her journey with her terminally ill son, and in the end, we feel her peace. Highly Recommended!

I had the good fortune of being a friend and informal student of Professor Fielding, and I am delighted to see that such a fine compilation of international Carlylean scholars pay tribute to his scholarship. I agree with Prof. Fielding's observation about being able to appreciate Carlyle better when reading him backwards, and I admit that I read this book in reverse! The essays are informative, scholarly, accessible: not being a Carlyle specialist myself I admit that I've always found reading him daunting (the voluminousness of the tomes, the convoluted language and diverse historical references )but this collection of essays is an excellent Everyman introduction, as well as a movable feast for aficionados. I was particularly compelled by Ronald Wendling's juxtaposition of Carlyle and Coleridge.
