A Thorough Treatment

Review Date: 2007-05-24
If you are familiar with previous Julie Strain photo collections published by Heavy Metal such as Its Only Art If Its Well Hung! and Six Foot One and Worth the Climb, you'll be pleased to know that this book is of similar content and quality. It is cover-to-cover with big, glossy pages jammed full of photos.

The book starts with a typical Julie-penned introduction adorned with images of every domestic and foreign cover of Penthouse she's ever graced. After that, it's a survey of images from (surely) every photoshoot she ever did for Penthouse. The presentation varies from 2-10 thumbnail images to full-page, or even two-page spreads in crystal clarity (with Bob Guccione's trademark soft-focus, of course).

The images run the gamut from clothed glamour shots to the explicit nudity Penthouse is famous for. Nothing is censored, and the book provides a very nice cross-section of the wide range of styles and settings found in the various shoots.

As the back cover states, there are over seven-hundred photos in here. For Julie fans, it's a no-brainer.

Not Just for Jewish Readers
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2008-09-17
I have been a student of different esoteric schools for about 20 years, but had only a peripheral knowledge of the esoteric Jewish stream of kabbalah. I was attracted to the title of this book due to my interest in history and the divine feminine, but I was a little hesitant when I flipped through it and saw all the charts and Hebrew letters. I wanted to learn the stories of these seven holy women, however, and I knew I needed to learn more about Kabbalah, so I decided to give it a try. Boy, am I glad I did. I want to share with my fellow readers who came up in the Christian tradition like I did: Don't be intimidated by the Hebrew. Ms. Hieronimus makes this difficult topic accessible and understandable. The charts are AMAZINGLY helpful, and I finally feel like I can begin to make some sense out of Kabbalah. The first two chapters are an excellent summary and overview of the tree of life that sets the stage for her stories on the prophetesses. The rest of the book goes chapter by chapter through the seven prophetesses and correlates their lessons to the seven days of the week, special foods, and parts of the body. Believe me, you don't have to be Jewish to appreciate this book. You just have to be a seeker interested in the divine feminine and this esoteric stream of holy wisdom from the people who have influenced the religious beliefs of so much of the Western world.

A Treasure of a book for anyone seeking old time family values. As a white woman, soon divorced with young adult children I have at times doubted some of my family choices because of my white-bred ways.("Kick them out when they turn 18") My intuition has led me on the right pathway with my family. What a joy/wopila to read the Truth of a Woman's life and see in her words and life deeds that the family AND extended famlily are indeed important and should be the mainstay of our life. Pilamiya/Thankyou Beautiful Woman for sharing your life and family.

In the tradition of Goddesses in Everywoman: Powerful Archetypes in Women's Lives and The Secrets of the Tarot: Origins, History, and Symbolism, this challenging book offers a woman-centered interpretation and history of astrology that will give readers new tools for self-exploration.

The Knot of Time reveals how the roots of "man's oldest science" lie in the depths of women's experience and creativity. Lindsay River and Sally Gilespie, both experienced astrologers, reclaim this lost heritage and mythology, transforming traditional interpretations of the components of the horoscope - the signs of the zodiac, the planets and the elements - into a path of self-understanding.

With the aid of clear, accessible diagrams, you can begin to nderstand your own chart and work out your own interpretations. Far from spelling out a fixed destiny, the book helps readers to explore the choices that are open to them and to make the most of their inner resources.

This book is a must for those new to astrology, for thoe wanting to get in touch with their intuitive side abd especially for thse who have found some of the concepts of traditional astrology inappropriate.

The Knot of Time also offers experienced astrologers a wealth of original insights.

A piece of History - not to be missed

This is a coloring book of full-page drawings of women's vaginas.

The author's comments will speak better to this book than I could -

'In 1973 I set out to do drawings of women's genitals for use in sex education groups. I wanted the drawings to be lovely and informative, to give pleasure and affirmation. I organized the drawings into a coloring book because a major way we learn to understand the world, as children, is by coloring. As adults many of us still need to learn about our external sexual anatomy.' -Tee Corinne

You can still find this book under a different edition by the name "C*nt Coloring Book" (I substituted the 2nd letter so amazon would allow the post) ISBN: 0867193719

Wanting to see more by the author I found this delightful interview -

An Erotic Tale of Female Domination
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2008-01-01
A young man undergoes an intense process of forced feminization. Through the fiendish plots of beautiful mistresses, the main character descends into a world of cross dressing, chastity, verbal humiliation, and sissyfication. Elegantly written, this is a wicked tale of captivating femme dommes and helplessly aroused transvestites. Erotica at its best.

I loved this play, I could relate to each character as if they had been friends throughout my life. It has wonderful clarity and so easily read. The author blind sided me though because it ended far too early. I wish it had a few 100 more pages!

Richardson is a well known academic writer who has inspired many students of qualitative writing to get on with it and learn to love it. She is also an accomplished auoethnographer that this volume more than proves. I as an Australian hospice nurse appreciate the struggles she has been through seeing her friend die.
Thank you Laurel.

Beautiful and Brilliant

Review Date: 2005-05-31
This collection of essays masterfully (or mistressfully?) weaves together autobiography, thealogy, feminist theory, and first-rate religious scholarship into an intoxicating blend that is at once moving and informative. Christ raises many critical points that anyone doing contemporary theology (particularly Jewish or Christian) should seriously take under consideration.

I am an American male graduate student in philosophy of religion who is pretty familiar with writings in feminist theology/thealogy, and I must say that Christ's prose (in this book as well as her other work--"Rebirth of the Goddess" is my personal favorite) is some of the most lyrical and provocative stuff I have ever had the pleasure of reading. This type of religious writing is just the breath of fresh air the often stagnant academy needs. Taste and see for yourself.
