This is a shocking story of how parents could discard their children in Ireland. I'm happy I live in America.

Intellectual and Entertaining Art from Kathy Prendergast

A very good introductory essay by Francis McKee for this book illuminates Irish artist Kathy Prendergast's sophisticated ideas on art and life. Prendergast's work is dominated thematically by the life-death-renewal cycle, visually by the Surrealist method of presenting everyday objects and materials in new ways that challenge established notions of use. A fun and enlightening book!

Different than his others, but still a page-turner

This novel by Robert B. Parker is very different than his Spenser, Jesse Stone, and Sunny Randall novels. Those tend to be shorter, wittier, high-action mysteries, while this one focuses more on characters and relationships. For me, the plot and the characters were interesting enough to keep me reading, and by the second half, I was completely hooked and found myself unable to put the book down. I did find the dialog pretty forced and unnatural at times, and the characters' personalities and histories felt a bit cookie-cutter, but I enjoyed it in spite of these criticisms.

I usually like Parker's books, and particularly when he deviates from his Spenser books. So, I really was expecting to enjoy All Our Yesterdays, probably Parker's most significant departure from his 'norm" However, much to my disappointment, I found this book to be have erratic pacing, slow to develop, and not very believable or interesting characters. As such, I wound up skimming through large passages and then, ultimately, giving up on it. There are just too many books and not enough time to waste time reading All Our Yesterdays.

Three generations

In this melodramatic tale Chris's grandfather was Conn Sheridan who sniped at British troops during the Easter uprising and became an officer in the IRA. Later he went to prison because he was betrayed by a woman and ended up moving to Boston, becoming a police officer. Chris feels frustrated because he has only been to graduate school and feels that he has never done anything.

In Boston Conn marries the daughter of a judge. In 1932 his son Gus is born. When a child, Maureen Burns, is discovered in a church basement, Conn learns that the homicide in the commission of a felony was caused by the son of the woman who betrayed him to the authorities. The perpetrator is sent to Zurich and the matter is officially listed as unsolved.

Conn dies walking into gunfire. His son Gus becomes a police officer. The child of Gus and his wife Peggy, Chris, was sickly and precocious. Moving forward to adulthood, Chris becomes interested in a grandchild of Conn's longstanding love interest. The strands in the story become disentangled when Chris undertakes a job as a special investigative prosecutor.

I love Robert B. Parker's books. He is the only author I buy in hardback because I think the man can write better than anyone in the market today, and I never want to wait for the paperback, or for the new ones to come back at the library. Parker isn't really a one-note author, as his critics claim; he's more of a one-tune author, but if you happen to like the tune, he's always fun. This book is very well-plotted at the action is great, and all three of the main characters are every bit as appealing as Spenser. But please, oh please, pretty please, Mr. Parker, stop buying into the "Playboy" philosophy that men are made more powerful by their uniforms, but women acquire power only when they take their clothes off! And that those women who aren't "picture perfect" aren't worth anything at all! Please? This is the very same attitude that you skewered - and beautifully - in "Taming a Sea Horse," the book about the sleazy smut-peddling Crown Prince Club. Whose side are you on anyway? Other than that major irritation, this book is a very good read, and in my opinion Parker makes the transition from pot-boiler to mainstream well. But....Please??

Better than most Spenser novels, give it a chance

OK, here's the deal. Robert B Parker wants to write something different, and he's just cranked out about 6 Spenser novels in a row. So, he sits down and writes this, All Our Yesterdays, a very good thriller, but often trashed novel. Why? Its easy... Robert B Parker is a simpistic writer, often taking for granted that you have read all the earlier novels, and you want no background material and no filler. Well, this isnt a Spenser novel, so background material is needed, you just met these guys. That for one agrivates Spenser fans, they like there novels to start on page one and never drag, but you do need a little background here. Heres the catcher, Robert B Parker also hates background material and explanitory writing. So he writes a vast, sprawling novel existing on three generations, with as little writing as possible. He does it in about 460 pages, (about the lengh of 2 Spenser novels). Does it work? Yes, its a gritty, fun yarn that is fast pased and slightly dark at times. Its also a little sterotypical towards the Irish, but Robert B Parker is Irish, so let that be. Its a welcome change of pace, more filling than most of his Spenser novels. Not a steak dinner filling, but more filling than say a Snickers.

I had such high hopes for deep and meaningful messages to be revealed within the pages of this text. I have no idea why - the Title must have spoken to me on some other level...
In the end, this book was just a long, drawn out, Thank You note to all the people who have helped to build the Kathy Ireland Empire.
Although its very nice of her to "write this note" its not something any of us who are not mentioned in the book, need to read. Save your money and move on to something truly inspirational.

Thankfully, my copy only cost me 99 cents - maybe that should have been a clue!!!!

I thought this was such a helpful book. I really appreciate Kathy sharing lessons that she's learned in her life. She seems to have really tuned in to her own female intuition at times where she was unsure where she was headed and it really saved her and kept her grounded. I really admire that. She is very strong and I think everyone should read this book. You will surely at least learn something from it.

Sorry, I cannot embrace you, Kathy

Though I haven't read this book, I feel the circumstances are all too cliche such that I can articulate some kind of review. Essentially, I agree with the reviewer who feels that Ms. Ireland, even if in possession of good intentions and wisdom, may be a little out of her league in offering life strategies to the rest of us. Kathy Ireland has received an overabundance of blessing in her life, and may not be in a position to coach the average guy or those who've endured enormous hardship and struggle with overcoming the legacy of a compromised life. Additionally, I've applied so many precepts to my life in the hope of improving my personal situation, but sometimes life isn't that simple. And I would not be honest if I didn't say I was tired of hearing about celebrities and their excessive fortunes, Ireland's Christian faith notwithstanding. I'm no socialist, but these stories confirm the fact that life is unfair and that a disproportionate amount of fortune is concentrated into the hands of too few people. Kathy, if you really want to share something with the world, I could use a few dollars.

Ditto to Brooke Shields, who feels her several-month bout with Post-partum Depression justifies her writing a book about it.

These folks don't know true suffering.

This beautiful young woman shares stories from her life (as I do occasionally); also writes about her failures and the lessons she learned while triumphing over them. She's the new Martha Stewart -- a former model who started her successful business with her own line of socks (my favorites). She added apparel, home furnishings, flooring and accessories designed for the busy women with families who depend on them. "She doesn't just talk the talk, she walks the walk."

Her brand garned the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval for consumer excellence. In order to accomplish things we desire, we need the love and support of others.

She lists eight lessons to get the reader started on the road to happiness and fulfillment. Powerful Inspirations: When God is with us, who can be against us? Powerful You: Failure is an education in itself; even with self-esteem, you will get hurt from time to time. Powerful families: With family, you are never alone. Powerful Answers: When you ask powerful questions, you may get powerful answers; be ready to act on them.

Powerful Changes: It's great to have goals, but don't forget to enjoy the journey. Powerful Financial Wisdom: Money won't solve all of your problems, but it helps along the way. Powerful Beliefs and Boundaries: Wise people constantly discover what they beleive and act on these beliefs. Powerful Joys and Sorrows: Without sorrow, true joy cannot be understood.

This is a powerful book to help realize your potential without all the stresses of life we all endure. She is a good teacher with her examples and experiences.

Kathy stated that her father always advised her to under promise and over deliver. That is exactly what Kathy does in her book, Powerful Inspiration. It's broken down into eight simple lesson. While the lessons themselves are nothing new, a gentle reminder from someone as beautiful as Kathy, makes them more interesting. The book is a quick read, and the message will defintely go over well with individuals of the Christian faith. Kathy adds credibility to the book, by providing personal examples from her own life as a supermodel, mother and entrepeneur.

Beware!! This collection (2 novellas)will make you want to read all of Katie MacAlister's books. Both of these stories are witty and clever and very enjoyable, my only regret is that they were short, but what can you do? If you haven't read her before, this is a good place to start. But be cautioned, next thing you know you'll be winding up your Amazon account to buy them all, Vampires, Dragons, and English/Scottish Hunks, OH MY!

My best friend lent me this book (even though she knew that I didn't normally read romance novels) because she said it was unbelievably funny. When I read it, I laughed so hard that I kept dropping the book. My husband, who was often in the same room as me, had to stop working on his college homework because he couldn't concentrate with me laughing so much. He is reading it now, and he thinks it is just as funny as I did. Overall, I thought this book was creative, light, and a lot of fun. Note: This book has has a lot of adult content, always presented in a humorous way.

It was a quirky and fun read. Ms MacAlister provides an insightful and irreverant look into ancient myths. With lots of chuckles and appreciation for women who have real life bodies, who are sexy and choose not to starve themselves into fitting in a size 2 dress.

I usually enjoy most of Ms. MacAlisters books. So I was excited to find this book while on vacation. I tend to read her books all in one sitting. I must say the first person point of view was extremely irritating. Get one of her previous books. I must say I no longer trust my well loved authors they all seem to think we prefer quantity over quality.
