For anyone who wants to retire comfortably, I really recommend this book. It is so well written and it is very common sense. I look so forward for the new book "The Habitual Millionaire"

I especially enjoyed this book because I was a small part of the country property business when I lived in the Washington D.C. area 40 years ago during the 60's. As a salesman, I sold many of the properties developed by B.K. Haynes to enthusiastic and highly satisfied buyers. My work was made much easier when excited customers asked to meet the person who wrote "those wonderful ads." Haynes has the remarkable ability to form pictures in the minds of those ad readers looking for country property. They became doubly excited when the properties they looked at were exactly as he described them and precisely what they were hoping to find. His inclusion of world historical events in this book is a valuable tool that hopeful property developers might use to gauge the state of mind in prospective buyers. The How To features in this book are so clearly defined that readers should have little difficulty adapting them to their own property development efforts. With an entertaining narrative writing style, B.K. Haynes delivered what was promised in the book's title. He explained exactly "How I Turned $50 into $5 Million in Country Property - Part Time.

I bought BK Haynes book because he is from my home town and I thought it might be interesting. I am so glad I did! Not only does he share his life story but he also shares the secrets to how he went from being a poor kid in DC to being the multi-millionaire he is today. And the best part about it is that I can do the same thing! Mr. Haynes did not let small obsticles (like lack of funds) keep him from realizing his dreams. He is an inspiration and model that I plan to immulate.

My daughter (2 1/2) loves this book. She has me read it to her every night before bed along with 2 other books. This book has remained constant along with Charlie and Lola's I am not sleepy and I will not go to bed. There is always something you missed the first or fifteenth time around when reading this book to your little one. Very well written and a lot of fun. Also just came across the Charlie and Lola website. www.charlieandlola.com (excellent)

I just cant say how much I love Charlie & Lola...I think this is my fourth purchase of this very same book! I can't stop giving them to all the little ones in our lives. My daughter adores the characters. She isnt quite two but has been reading C&L with me for about 6 months. We also love the videos. Very sweet.
This particular book was fun to read as we got our daughter ready for her first daycare experience.
My goal is to have every Charlie & Lola book and DVD made. I love the innocence and imagination I see with every turn of the page.

I can't read this book to my children without singing. The song is a lovely little lullaby we heard on Sesame Street, sung once by Aaron Neville. It is so beautiful, if you buy this book and don't know the tune, do yourself a favor and get a CD, too! You'll want to "sing" this book! It doesn't matter if you think you don't sing well -- the tune is so simple and your toddler loves your singing voice, anyway.
Even if you don't know the tune, don't sing the song, and don't ever care to "sing" a book with your baby, this little board book catches a lovely, lilting rythym (even without music) that's perfect for bedtime. Read softly with lots of cuddling. The point of the story is that "home" is the best place to live, and other spots are great "just for visiting."

I discovered this book last year and presented it to my husband for Valentine's Day. The pictures are darling and I found my self wanting to dedicate each page to my sweetie. I have been so inspired by this book that I have recommended it to the Married Couples Ministry at my church. I've come up with an idea for an icebreaker at our annual Valentine party using the book's theme. We'll do a contest to get it each couple to come up with ways to express or show their love. Responses can be in various categories such as the most romantic or humorous, least expensive, with the children, etc. We'll give away the I Love You Because calenders to the best responses. We're also encouraging people to buy an ad in the program booklet and surprise their valentine with their own I Love You reason. Thanks for the inspiration.

Before I knew it, I had gone through the entire book before I even left the store. I've been married for 26 years and have a wonderful wonderful relationship. I knew that this was a gift I wanted to share with my husband to express once again, how very much I love him. My hats off to the author and photographer and the precious models, they really get it!

This is one of the best finds I've run across all year. I first saw the book at my 10 year old goddaughter's house. Her father bought it for her because he liked it. She thought it was okay but the adults, like me, who saw it laying on the family's coffee table were the ones who fell in love with it. Unfortunately, while her father always finds the best books to share with his family, he also manages to get the last copy. I couldn't believe this absolutely wonderful book was out of print. I searched everywhere for one for myself for months. When I finally found a source for it, I bought several to give to each of my best friends. When the books arrived, I wished I'd bought more because I loved it so. The pictures are wonderful. The sentiments; incredibly personal professions of love, gratitude and friendship. The combination of the photos and captions made it easy for me to tell my friends and family how important they were to me. This book is a fabulous gift to give to those people special to you. So when you buy it, buy more than one. Give the copies freely to the ones you love but don't forget to keep one for yourself. If you don't you'll regret it.

In my recent awakening from addiction after many years of running in fear, teachings like this give rise to such a healthy mind set for facing and embracing life. What a refreshing thought that interpersonal and self conflict merely express the thoughts I bring into the situation. By reframing what it is I know and believe, not only can conflict enrich my life but it can also help me reach new levels of understanding which keep my life vibrant and new. Great read.

One of the most practical and helpful books on dealing with conflict in relationships. A must read for anyone who is looking to bring harmony to a family, a team, a congregation, or a community. Actually, these principles would work well for a nation and a world as well.
Gary Simmons lays out the issues in relationships fair and square, then shows how a shift in attitude and approach can bring peace and solutions where before there was only chaos and confusion.
There's also a teen-age version of this book for working with young people.

conflict has been challenging for me all my life...i wonder if it hasn't for anyone! reading gary's book has been such a gift, for not only does he remind me that all conflict begins within me, he also shows me that its cause is a sense of brokeness within myself and that it is simply an invitation for revealing wholeness. wholeness that already is within me, but just hasn't been discovered yet. and now the adventure begins; not one of judging my brokeness, but of disovering and experiencing and expressing my wholeness. and not just in my personal life, but also in my work life. i can't wait!!!! this is a must read for everyone....i can only imagine if we all practiced the principles that gary presents in this book......

It often appears that conflict is the norm and that there's no way to avoid it. We see this in our personal lives and in the entire world around us. We see it on TV and in the movies. We hear it in a lot of popular songs. We read about it in the newspapers.
However, there is an alternative to all this lying within each individual. Careful reading of Gary Simmons' book should help one understand the how and why of this conflict, and how to embrace, rather than resist, it and thus learn the effective way to deal with it.
This isn't Pollyana stuff. The author teaches martial arts, and his teaching comes from strength, not from timidity and passiveness.
For those who are super serious in their desire to deal effectively with conflict, I recommend buying the tape EMBRACE TIGER, RETURN TO MOUNTAIN, along with this book. However, if you're not ready for that, than go for the book itself.

What is this?!?! Giant ants in the jungle and amazing power beams?!?! Sure, WHY NOT? Space Sorcerers? Makes sense! Every story involves criminals with some form of bombing planes!?!?! Keen!
Nothing I can say THE BELIEVER magazine's article about Fletcher Hanks hasn't said better, but its an amazing book well worth owning.

This is a long overdue collection of the most mystery of comic book creators. Not only are his drawings strange and weirdly naive but the story are simply out-of-this-world bizarre. Hanks style is immediate and wholly idyosyncratic on par with Wolverton for oddity and inventiveness. Fletcher and Basil are probably the lone standouts in the form. It wasnt until the underground movement began that we again see the clear awareness of artist manipulating the mark and structure of the medium in such interesting and individual ways.
Everytime I look at his work and read the stories I feel as though I am tapping into some primal awareness; some strange clarity of the world in absolutes. Having the original comics is best(I have accumulated only a few) having this book however is a rare gift-- share it with any who want to investigate genius. I only wish we knew more about him. Come check out the wonderous world of Fletcher Hanks.

I SHALL DESTROY ALL THE CIVILIZED PLANETS: THE COMICS OF FLETCHER HANKS provides a sampling of stories written and illustrated by a forgotten name from the Golden Age of Comics. During the '30s and '40s, Hanks created super-powered characters such as Stardust, the science-wizard; Fantomah, the skull-faced jungle queen; Big Red McLane, the manly lumberjack; and Buzz Crandall of the Space Patrol.
Presented in a full-color oversized format, this book doesn't so much allow for a celebration of Hanks' abilities as much as it highlights their campy awkwardness. In fact, some may see the work in this book and say that Hanks should have remained forgotten; however, as bizarre as this work is, it is undeniably unique. All character types are cut from the same cloth - the microcephalic heroes with bloated muscular bodies look just as monstrous as the horridly scowling villains. Every story has almost the exact same laughable plot, with hordes of sharply-dressed fifth columnists running rampant across the globe, planning to destroy civilization either through military conquest or astounding pseudoscience (where these guys will get their suits tailored once they have achieved their goal is beyond me). Furthermore, the heroes are seemingly omnipotent, barely raising an eyebrow while meting out absurdly complex and gruesome punishments to the villains.
Despite the inclusion of photos and a final chapter providing information on Hanks and his son, I can't shake the odd feeling that this could be a hoax on the level of George Plimpton's Sports Illustrated article "The Curious Case of Sidd Finch". Whatever the case, it certainly was an interesting read. While I feel that this book is more a novelty than a serious evaluation, I'm grateful to editor Paul Karasik for having the drive to get it published.

On at least a superficial level, I Shall Destroy All the Civilized Planets by Fletcher Hanks is an unimpressive collection of comics from the late 1930s and early 1940s, and it is apparent why the comics have remained obscure. The art is okay but the writing is definitely missing something, such as characterization or plot development.
The greatest number of stories feature Stardust, "the most remarkable man who ever lived." This blond giant lives on a distant asteroid where his seemingly omniscient technology detects evil doings on Earth, usually involving world conquest or mass murder. Equipped with strange and powerful weapons, Stardust metes out justice. He is so utterly powerful, however, that no foe stands a chance against him, and suspense is never really an issue.
Of only slightly more depth is Fantomah, "the most remarkable woman ever known," a jungle girl with vast supernatural powers which she uses to stop people from exploiting the people and beasts of the jungle. When she uses her fullest powers, she changes from beautiful woman to skeletal monster, but she is essentially a scaled down Stardust.
There are also standalone stories featuring lumberjack Big Red McLane taking on the Red River Gang and one with Buzz Crandall stopping Lepus the Fiend (who utters the line that is the title of this book) from forcing Earth and Venus to collide.
As mentioned before, on the superficial level, these stories are quite mediocre, but as I read through the book, I realized that they are not meant to have the standard qualities one would associate with good stories. Instead, they are tales of divine justice. With their near omnipotence, Stardust and Fantomah (in particular), punish evil with fierce, often ironic justice. For example, when Stardust stops one villain from robbing Fort Knox, he gives the crook his share of "gold" when Stardust feeds him to a monstrous golden octopus. (Unlike many superheroes, Stardust and Fantomah have no qualms about killing.)
The best writing is actually in the comic-form afterword by editor Paul Karasik, which deals with Karasik's attempts to find out more about the mysterious Fletcher Hanks. He tracks down the son, who describes his father as a thoroughly unpleasant man. Karasik (and the reader) get some insights into Hanks, but he remains mostly an enigma.
This book has a certain nostalgic charm but I don't know if they are really worth owning unless you're a real comics completist. If you are, then pick this up; otherwise, approach this book with caution.

I find these books great mind stretchers, even for us older folks. This book especially is a learning tool because there is a page with all the letters of the alphabet surrounded by little objects that start with each letter. Another page groups things by category with overlapping categories. Really well done.

Our two year-old has a fine time finding new things in the pictures each night, and learning to memorize the sentences...I say the first word now, she finishes it up.
Great art work, repetitive verses, a very calming book, perfect for bedtime.

My two and a half old son loves anything that has to do with the moon. When I first saw this book, I knew instantly that he would love it. Boy, was I right. The words flow gracefully as we read it together over and over again. This book is a family favorite that is read by someone in my home daily. The illustrations are captivating and will hold a child imagination for hours. Highly recommend.

I bought this book having bought "Picture This" which was illustrated by Allison Jay. My 22 month old loves it!! I like the fact that there are only a few words per page and the story has wonderful rhythm when read out loud. My daughter now tries to say the words along with me and tries to read it to her doll "Dolly". The illustrations for some reason arouse a feeling of nostalgia in me, and my daughter loves to point out the moon, the cows, the swing in the park and the various other wonderful pictures. Well worth a look!

BEAUTIFUL PROSE, WONDERFUL PICTURES. My two-year-old son LOVES this book. The assonance (vowel rhyme within the words) in the prose makes it flow much like a poem but much more sophisticated than the popular, "Good Night Moon." The first line: "I took the moon for a walk last night, it followed along like a still summer kite, high in the sky through darkness and light, when I took the moon for a walk." Animals and people appear from page to page with wonderful landscapes that reward readers when closely examined. I am a librarian and this book should be on a list of BEST CHILDREN'S BOOKS, EVER.

This new book has a lot of his personal history which many people looking for practical advice may not enjoy. But I enjoyed them. And mixed in with that history are absolutely great land ads he wrote. They could be used today and still be highly effective. I know I'm borrowing from them.
The rest of the book has lots of practical advice for people who want to buy and sell land from the developers stand point. He keeps it simple. And useful.
Overall, a real treat for me.
