Toad RageReview Date: 2008-08-03
Aussie Toad Reaches OutReview Date: 2007-10-18
Kids 8-12, I think, would naturally enjoy this book, but they need to be a tad tough-minded. The Toad of the title is a spunky and sympathetic character, who remains optimistic about finding good in the world, despite the fact that every driver he meets goes out of his way to attempt to squash him. He's on a quest to get humans to be nicer to his kind, a scaley Don Quixote, a creature of strong convictions and high ideals. It's an exciting road trip across Australia for the plucky little guy, and you will root for him and laugh all the way. BTW a glossary of Aussie words will assist US readers and add to the fun of exploring the exciting world of Down Under.

" It's too dangerous, stay here."Review Date: 2007-01-11
"It's too dangerous, stay here," says Limmpy a Cane toad with a bad leg as he sets out on an adventure to answer his life long question," Why do humans hate us?" Limmpy's leg is bad because it got run over by a truck when he was little and if he runs too fast he goes around in circles.
Toad Rage will take you on an adventure with Limmpy, Goliath, and Charm. It's a good book for all ages and is funny and informational. Charm, Limmpy's younger sister, is sweet and somewhat stubborn. Limmpy's cousin Goliath is big but very stubborn. This book will keep you hooked 'til the very end.
Reading this book will teach you that life isn't always fair, that some things just can't be changed, and above all don't judge a book, human, or animal by its cover.

Loved It!Review Date: 2008-11-03
Through a catalytic, real life drama of a woman straddled and hog-tied on a bed, gun barrel dug into her chest as well as Karen's personal fears and experiences as a daughter, mother, reporter and Christian-- several important sub-themes are well illustrated. God is not a God of retribution but of redemption, faith in a God of retribution produces a fear-filled, bent-out of-shape life, and, until we come to know the God of the Bible--Who is love--we can't have a healthy relationship with Him.
Karen supports her main points citing just how dark lives of fear rather than lives of faith can become. Groups and individuals who demand control use fear as stimuli to keep their members in line be they Christian, Muslim or secular. "Fear makes our world smaller." (Favorite quote)
Karen brings home the point that a merely academic faith has all the same characteristics of a life lived in fear. This is where I most closely identify with the author's experience. She recounts, "I was a person who could spout all the right things about God but I wasn't in a right relationship with Him."
Focusing on the dysfunctional religion-of-right-answers versus a life of faith Karen gets the pedal to the metal. She shows how fear produces a culture of isolation and extremism while a life of faith in Jesus will supply whatever is needed for us as well as the needs of those He places in our path.
God will never abandon us whatever the circumstances look like. He is present and He powerful against our real enemy, fear. Fear is a fallen angel, a defanged and beaten foe, beaten forever on the cross of Jesus Christ. That's what I got out of this book. Good book!

A Human Look at Faith and FearReview Date: 2008-09-13
Karen blends Southern humor, social commentary, and introspection to give us the ability to confront our fears from the safety of our reading chairs. No punches are pulled: Karen takes aim at the Bush Administration, Ann Coulter (thanks Karen), cowardly clergy, but most endearingly, herself.
I'll be purchasing a few copies of WYJN for Christmas this year. It's a worthy read.

My boys have acted out the story repeatedly and I hear them quietly reciting the story to themselves.
The pictures are fantastic - bright, beautiful, so full of life. The text is superb and has a wonderful moral as well.
You will love this book and so will your kids.

"He is always with me."Review Date: 2006-06-19
This book is not just for widows; anyone who has lost a loved one will feel better after reading this book, just knowing that someone else has gone through it and shares your feelings. Her realization that the sharp pain had gradually, imperceptibly, lessened is realistic and heartening. Recommended.

If a picture paints a thousand words..Review Date: 2008-10-19
Roger Hamilton is clearly very gifted in his use of language. This book is deliberately designed to be read over and over, and there is a story behind the story that is reveled through repeated reading. The more you read this book, the more you will get from it.
I am on my second reading now and noticing a few things I didn't notice first time. One of the key pieces for me was the picture, I believe it was page 32 showing the money tap, was a huge revelation to me about how we spend time and money, instead of investing it. A major light bulb popped in my head when I saw this diagram.
Another major piece, asking better questions. For example in nlp, we are not too concerned with the why. These are reasoning and rationalisation questions, and yet can also be motivating questions. Questions like how can I, what can I, and what if open up new theaters of opportunity in your thinking.
If you can't get it here on Amazon, as is the case now as I write this review you can get it on the author's website. I also recommend his other book, Your Life, Your Legacy which I am currently reading.
I hope you find this review helpful, and if you do, please click yes.

Read it 3 times now -- and my wife Masami has gained so much from it she is looking at translating it!
You will gain understanding upon understanding from this simple little book about a boy called Richard who takes a differnt path one day on the journey to the well of wealth and ends up learning that life is indeed rich and doesnt have to be hard and that his name has a different meaning to what he thought!
I keep readind this in snippets -- picking up and asking questions and gaining more insights ---
Its a winner and will be a winner for you --- a tip though -- wealth is hidden between the words in the book ...

A very different approachReview Date: 2006-03-24
I have read this book a number of times, one time of which I wrote a load of notes. Every time I read it I'd swear that there were sentences there which were not there the previous time, hence I got something new out of it every time.
A very Zen, smart and simple approach - particularly once the penny drops on what comes after number 29... I highly recommend this book.

A Must Reference Book for All Parents!Review Date: 2007-10-02
I wish I had this book when my children were growing up. I bought this for my daughter when she had her first daughter. It is a great reference manual with good suggestions for any parent on ways to guide your child as he or she grows up to be a well-balance, loving, child, - adult, and at the same time develop a close relationship with them.
Kindness is always more powerful than fearReview Date: 2000-11-19
Rembember that children are independt beings who need your support and guidance, not your control. Be open to what they came to teach you and both will benefit in ways which no words can precisely define, since they will take you to the world of the spirit.
The author makes sure that every parent who reads this book mustr a clear understanding that feeling love is not enough you MUST express it.
Keeps me on trackReview Date: 2004-01-26
When the kids were toddlers and I was tired and feeling swamped and
cranky, it helped remind me what was important and what was not. My
kids are in 8th, 6th and 4th
grade now and life is busy and fun. I
pulled your book off of the shelf to find a quote for a friend and found
myself
re-reading many of the stories. Your book centers me and sort of
re-sets my attitude toward parenting. Your stories are
concise and
insightful; I appreciate your sense of family and fun. Just wanted to
say thanks for the times when your
book has helped me.

A Metaphisical MasterpieceReview Date: 2006-02-03
The premise of this book is the spiritual wisdom from the Book of Proverbs:
"As you think in your heart, so you are."
In the course of the volume, James Allen clearly describes how clarity of mind, linked with good intentions, can transform our experience of life and release the creative spirit within us all. The ultimate outcome of embracing the simple philosophy of this book is: Serenity.
Politically Correct VersionReview Date: 2003-12-09
Marc Allen points out that in the Buddhist tradition, a book opens with a poem. If the reader can understand the poem, he or she has grasped the meaning of the book, and need not read the entire book. Here is James Allen's opening poem:
Mind is the master power that molds and makes,
And we are mind, and evermore we take
the tool of thought,and
shaping what we will,
Bring forth a thousand joys, a thousand ills.
We think in secret, and it comes to pass--
Our
world is but our looking glass.
Thoreau said something similar in a shorter version where he alludes to how the mind of man can create a heaven or hell for itself.
THIS AUDIO VERSION IS EXCELLENT !!Review Date: 2008-03-05
Audio books are excellent reading options or gifts for persons with little time to read or who's sight is challenged or who spend significant time commuting. This audio version is very well read and is of excellent recorded quality. BEWARE that there are some horrifically cruddy readings / very poor audio versions of this book being sold on Ebay and other online places, but this particular audio version from Amazon is excellent in every way. I listen to this tape frequently and something always stands out as very pertinent, almost as if new, every time I listen.
