My daughter, who is now 21 years old, loved this book as a child. We are purchasing it for her nephews. She learned to tie her shoes, button her buttons....all at the age of 2 and because she truly wanted to do it herself.

I remember this book as being one of my favorite books from when I was a little girl. I'm 21 now and have two kids of my own and personally, I wouldn't recommend any other books. It's a great choice for any parent who wants to start their little one down the road to reading. ^_^

Bert and Ernie take care of a puppy

When Barbara calls to ask for a favor, Ernie doesn't hesitate in accepting to take care of her puppy for the day. Cautious Bert, of course, worries that neither he nor Ernie knows anything about dogs. That's the opportunity for Barkley the large sheepdog of Sesame Street to join in teaching Bert and Ernie about what dogs like to do with their days. After playing fetch and hide-and-seek in the park, the dogs are fed and then bathed and brushed. As the group settles down for naps, Barbara returns to pick up the puppy and Bert and Ernie have had a great experience in caring for the puppy and Barkley. Kids will love seeing their favorite muppets from Sesame Street in this cute and didactic story.

I like this book because it involves dogs. They have to learn how to own a pet.I thought this was a good book because it teaches children what they have to do if they got a pet.

This book is great, a dog teaches two guys how to take care of a puppy. For little kids it could be helpfull, with colorfull pictures kids could learn basics of taking care of a dog. The funniest part is that the dog teaches the guys, he makes different face and shows them what to do which makes the book very interesting.

Great Book for a Toddler

I checked this book out of the library for my daughter when she was 14 months old and she really loved it. After renewing it a couple of times we decided to buy it for her (we like to see what books keep her interest before buying them). She is now 18 months old and still enjoys the book; she isn't really into counting yet but she quotes the book every time she sees butterflies now ("bye, bye, butterflies"). It's a fun book-- I recommend it!

We bought this book for our baby when he was 10 months old, which may be a little young for it, but he really enjoys the illustrations of Elmo (with the 10 stars in the sky page being his favorite). Now that he's almost a year old, he'll sit still for the whole book -- twice in a row! Elmo is a perennial favorite, and I feel sure my baby will enjoy this book even more as he gets a bit older and starts learning to count.

My 18-month old loves this book. The activities and characters are familiar to our daily lives and she loves "discussing" each page's event. While she has never seen Sesame Street on TV, she loves the characters anyway.

My 12-month-old son loves to be read this book. It's one of those books that's easy to make interesting: "Cookie glides down the slide" , "Ernie swings high," "Bert swings low" . Very simple pictures and words, suitable for a baby or young toddler.

Our daughter received this book several months ago and it is one of her favorites. At 19 months she enjoys pointing to the pictures and being able to identify them herself.

In this Bear book, we are taken on a tour of the Big Blue House by Bear himself. As we travel from room to room, different simple to read words can be found by objects that are very ordinary.

We have read this book on many occasions now and it always amazes me what my daughter picks up on after we read it. I highly recommend this book for the Bear fan in your life!

What a wonderful book for young readers just learning to read. Within this book you take a tour through Bear's house exploring room by room naming different items in each room. My 11 month old daughter has fun trying to find "Bear's" friends in each room. The words in the book are so simple to read and learn. The illustrations that they have chosen for each word are excellent and very clear for the reader to understand what the item(word) is. When you read this book you start in the kitchen and go all the way to the attic to see Luna.

After you have read this book, you can ask your child where items are located in Bear's house. You can even ask them if you have any of the same items in your own home as Bear does. You can also ask your child, how many of a certain item are in Bear's house. Not only does this book teach the reader words it can also help them count, along with helping them with their memory skills.

I can hardly wait for my daughter to get older so that we can read this together. However, we have fun looking at the pictures, and having me read the words to her for right now. We strongly recommend this book for any "Bear" fan or any young reader.

It's the Holiday Spirit That Counts

Christmas is coming to the Big Blue House, but it seems like the minds of our friends Tutter, Ojo, Treelo and Pip and Pop just aren't on the holidays. They keep stealing glances out the window and are kinda sad because it's dry and windy outside and there's no snow.

Bear helps them all to see that even without snow, it's the holiday spirit that truly makes Christmas great. Another wonderful, and original, "Bear in the Big Blue House" story. The characters look like they do on the TV show, but the rest of the illustrations are original and done by a veteran pro at illustrating Muppet books --- Tom Brannon.

My mom had this book when she was little and she wore it into 3 sections before it was finally thrown away. Years later she finally found this book again on the internet and bought it for us and we love it as much as she did. Wonderful book, can't say enough about it!

I loved it then and my child loves it now!

This was my all-time favorite book when I was little. My mom got it for me as a premium because she gave money to support PBS. Its humor and thoughtfulness still holds true today -- it is an excellent book that covers shapes, colors, nature, numbers, the alphabet, etc from several approaches: through crafts, through poetry/storytelling, with fun games -- I can't say enough great things about this book. Parents who grew up in the 1970s will also remember characters such as Mr. Hooper and Roosevelt Franklin as well.

I just unearthened this book recently and remembered how much I enjoyed it when I was little. I can remember trying to follow Oscar's "advice" on how to become a grouch. Now that I have a little one of my own, I enjoy sharing the story with him and I hope he likes it as much as I did. Sesame Street is just timeless and classic, and so is this book. It's fun and cute.

Best Kids Book - EVER

This book is a favorite with small children and older kids. Oscar gives a description of the grouch lifestyle, including grouchy homes, grouchy vehicles and grouchy pasttimes. For aspiring grouches, he suggests ways to stay in a grouchy mood all day long. For example: putting rocks in your bed at night, eating such things as fish-flavored ice cream, and vacationing at uninviting Muddville Flats. It's a silly book and even grownups like it. I've had my copy for about 27 years.

I received this as a Christmas present and was suprised at how tiny it is. Only 127 pages long and it measures just about 3X3! However this small package is packed with Muppet takes on classic Christmas carols (Please Rest Ye Grumpy Gentlemen), stories (The Thrift of the Magi), Muppet letters to Santa and illustrated with charming photos of the Muppets in various Christmas settings. It's sure to bring joy and delight to children as well as adults!

I was delighted to see this book still in print. Totally forgot about it until I saw it at a store recently.. I LOVED it as a kid, and any kid will continue to do so (especially with a well-animated reader)
Grover's begs and pleads for you not to continue will ensure that it gets read to the end.

This is a fun book that I came across at a book fair and recognized as an old childhood favorite. The basic theme is that Grover keeps saying not to turn the page, and then humorously berates you when you do turn the page. So now my niece is getting a copy! If your kid likes Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus by Mo Willems, he or she will like this book too.
