I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was recommended to me by a friend. Finally a book that we as teenagers can relate to. I couldn't put the fiction part of the book down. I could actually relate to the story. I'm sure we can all relate in some way (friends, family). It was a little bit harder to read the non-fiction part - I thought it was another one of those self-help books. As I continued reading, though, it really opened my eyes and helped me see my future. My mom wishes she had read a book like this when she was young. Thanks Ms. Haji.
Thumbs up to Hanifa Haji!

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It is an insightful book that is geared toward a teen/young adult audience. However it offers pearls of wisdom to just about anyone who opens up its pages
I did not like the first part, which has a fictional story about a troubled teen (even though it is heart-warming). There is nothing wrong with the story. It's just that I don't like stories. I like to cut to the chase, especially when I am reading a book.
The second part of the book, which is designed on the flip side, i.e. you have to read it from the other end after flipping it over, is an excellent exposition. The author has done a marvellous job of sharing the seven universal truths which every teen must know to have a great life. They are (with my added comments):
1. KNOW THYSELF
Socrates was certainly right - "The unexamined life is not worth living." Having a knowledge & understanding of one's character, & being aware of our strengths, weaknesses & learning styles allow us to maximize our performance in any area of life;
2. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER
This is especially true when it is applied purposefully & meaningfully in one's life! Albert Einstein said this: "Education is what remains after one has forgotten everything he learned in school.";
3. LOVE YOURSELF:
Self esteem has always been an important key to personal growth & development. I like to define 'self esteem' as the feeling of 'being lovable & being capable'. Self esteem reinforces self image.
4. NO MAN IS AN ISLAND:
Relationships & social interaction are important in one's life, especially in today's global community;
5. THE MAGIC WORD IS ATTITDUE:
ATTITUDE is definitely everything. There is a saying - "It's not your aptitude but your attitude that determines your altitude." A positive attitude can really make a lot of difference in one's life!
6. THE MASTER SKILL OF SUCCESS IS GOAL SETTING:
We all know that goals determine one's direction in life. Stephen Covey would love this one, based on his habit #2;
7. THE LAWS OF LIFE:
I am very impressed by the ability of the author to put many of the universal laws into simple, easy-to-understand language. Bravo! I fully agree that the master law of the universe is the Law of Cause & Effect. This is essentially Newton's Third Law;
In reality, I would have preferred to expand the second part of the book, especially the laws of life, & tone down down the first part. This would have added more zest to the substance of the book.
Nevertheless, I am very confident that the ideas & insights from this book can bring any teen reader to the next level! It offers excellent survival insights & life skills:
- how to identify your talents;
- how to improve your self image;
- how to maintain good peer relationships;
- how to get along with those you love;
& more importantly,
- how to enjoy school & achieve your goals!
Tactically, the second part of the book serves as a guidebook as well as some sort of a workbook. There are many questions to ponder about as well as some blank areas to complete.
All Mums & Dads: Go out & get this wonderful book for your teenaged children!

"EasyJet: The Story of England's Biggest Low-Cost Airline" is a delightful book that those interested in the growing low cost airline phenomenon worldwide will enjoy reading. EasyJet is the largest and successful low cost airline based at Luton Airport near London. The airline operates frequent scheduled services for leisure and business passengers and serves more than 200 routes between more than 65 European airports. Its founder is the Greek Cypriot entrepreneur Stelios Haji-Ioannou.
The airline business is modelled around the successful no frills formula that has been brilliantly employed for over a generation by Southwest Airlines in the USA and its nearby rival Ryanair, based in Ireland. EasyJet and Ryanair are the largest low cost airlines in Europe, The airline started operations in November 1995. EasyJet can operate low cost flights because of its low operating costs. The airline achieves this by, among other things, flying to and from airports that offer cheaper take-off and landing fees, eliminating free meals and drinks during flights, using online and telephone booking systems to eliminate travel agent commissions, flying more often than traditional carriers, not allocating specific seats to passengers (free seating to speed up the passenger boarding process) and competing with all transport modes (especially road and railway transport).
The airline also typically opens new routes with no competition from legacy carriers and tends to target the price conscious business, leisure and visiting friends and relatives passengers. It has an aggressive marketing and pricing strategy and focus on short and medium haul traffic with high frequency of services. The airline has a strong brand.
EasyJet initially operated exclusively Boeing 737 aircraft to minimise costs. However, in September 2003 it broke with its philosophy of operating just one aircraft type, a typical strategy by low cost airlines worldwide, by ordering 120 Airbus A319 aircraft. When the last of the Airbus A319s has been delivered in 2007 easyJet is expected to have retired most of its Boeing 737 fleet.
So this is the story of easyJet, which Lois Jones related with rigour and eloquence.

Air travel in the United States was heavily regulated for many, many years. Then deregulation came and the era of inexpensive air travel came in. In Europe it was a much bigger mess. Most of the airlines were owned by the Government and had enough pull within the Government to make it difficult for new airlines to enter their protected territory.
easyJet has been able to carve a business out of the European market. Sometimes it has used, shall we say, 'creative' techniques. For instance, in trying to restrict entry into the market and protect SwissAir, the Swiss attempted to stop them by citing an obscure rule that said that that they had to offer accommodations with their tickets. easyJet's president had a tent errected on a hillside nearby and said that any passenger who wanted accommodations were welcome to stay there.
The story of easyJet is the story of our modern time as the rules of international business are changing dramatically. Indeed the whole rise of the no-frills airlines has been an interesting addition to the conventional airlines. The success of easyJet also proves that all new businesses don't have to be high-tech to succeed. There are still fortunes to be made in the more mundane businesses. The story of easyJet has lessons in it for all of us in business. As business becomes more world wide, any business needs to look at international expansion. The easyJet story is one involving a large number of countries and they did it in a different way.

I read the books when I was 13 they are the Muslim answer to Hardy boys. they give an adventure novel (which the younger children are looking for)that also focuses on Islam the fundamentals and the necessity to act on them no matter what the situation. I believe that if children were to read the Invincible Abdullah series it would allow them to feel free in acting Islamic in front of other non Muslim children of their age or at least not make them deny their religion to their peers (which is happening at public schools)

`The Crafts of Malaysia' is a brilliantly written and illustrated book. The pictures are great and clear. I am very interested in the Malaysian arts, cultures and their handicrafts. It is very difficult to find a book which is so comprehensive and detail. The illustration on `Earth' is very informative and technical and it suits me very much. I specially like the explanation on Pua kumbu (Textile) by Vernon Art Kedit. It is brilliantly written.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to know more about Malaysian crafts and its history. This is a great book.

Truth - Simplicity - Love

I found this book an easy and enjoyable read. Concepts regarding relationships, emotional issues, spirituality and higher states of consciousness are all woven together in an understandable dialogue and illustrated by Ms. Gaudio's personal life's experiences. I came away feeling very good, with some clear ideas of what I can do to improve my own life.
The ideas written in the palms on the cover - Truth, Simplicity and Love are beautiful concepts. They may sound simple, but they are very real guidelines to follow in order to live a happy life. Ultimately, in my opinion, it really all boils down to Love, having one's awareness open to the field of Universal Love deep within us. As Max explains, this can be developed through the practice of Transcendental Meditation.
I recommend this book to those seeking answers and wanting to overcome problems in their lives.

The word Kasidah can be translated Testament, and here it conveys several of the meanings of that word. It is a statement about what the author believes and what he does not, it is concerned with the authority and veracity of scriptures, and it is deeply concerned with the meaning and consequences of death.
Burton here melds his broad knowledge of Western philosophy and religion with a deep understanding of Eastern philosophical and metaphysical thought, and he presents it flawlessly in the poetic idiom of the Sufis. This work stands alone, incomparable, for it is truly a unique work of genius. The Way of the Sufi is here presented in Western thought, clothed in poetic Sufi garb.
The Kasidah is an Agnostic Gospel. It calls for an abandonment of argument over what can never be known an acceptance that death is a mystery that we cannot penetrate, and a shunning of bribes of heaven or threats of hell. Burton offers instead his code for living the life before us - "Do what thy manhood bids thee do/ from none but self expect applause;/ He noblest lives and noblest dies/ who makes and keeps his self-made laws."
The Kasidah expresses Burton's life philosophy, stark, with a terrible beauty. It has been called his spiritual autobiography. More than any of his many other works, it reveals the heart and mind of this brilliant and amazing man. That is more than enough reason to read this powerful book.
This book should be read by anyone with an interest in Sir Richard Burton, Sufi poetry, the philosophy of applied Agnosticism, or works of unique and powerful vision. It has my highest recommendation

Web 1.0 Mindset Waving Web 2.0 Methods

I've given this book four stars because if you want to leverage Web 2.0 methods to garner more money for your Web 1.0 "what we think best" programs, then this is the book for you.
In terms of actually creating empowered social networks where the non-profit is a facilitatator, connecting real people with micro-cash to real people with micro-needs, this book is so far back in time as to be next to useless.
Argh! This is the last gasp of the United Way/Red Cross "rip off as many as possible" so we can have our first class tickets and lifestyle and practice trickle down tax-free programs that "we the elite" decide.
There are web sites devoted to micro-connecting and micro-giving, I recommend that individuals avoid giving to any organization that does not offer open books and a complete menu of opportunities to earmark your gift for a specific need from a specific person or household. The animal and child chartities are a bit ahead of the game here, but even this can be disintermediated eventually.
I am reminded of two famous views:
"Criticize by Creating" from Machiavelo, adopted by the Flow Project.
Instead of trying to fix old systems, create new ones that displace them (paraphrase) from Buckminster Fuller.
I must disclose that recently Earth Intelligence Network sent 65 copies of its first book (the last one listed below, also free online) along with a letter of inquiry to the top foundations puporting to be addressing the ten high-level threats to humanity. We received back exactly two serious responses, six postcards blowing us off, and nothing at all from all the others. This has persuaded me that most so-called national foundations are nothing more than tax dodges and golden parachutes for a select few, and it is time we subject them to the same "open books" scrutiny that we plan for corporations and for government at all levels.
For more innovative thinking, see, among many others:
The Tao of Democracy: Using Co-Intelligence to Create a World That Works for All
Society's Breakthrough!: Releasing Essential Wisdom and Virtue in All the People
How to Change the World: Social Entrepreneurs and the Power of New Ideas, Updated Edition

Ted Hart has created a wonderful primer on ephilanthropy and how to apply integrated fundraising strategies, including chapters from many experts from the nonprofit sector. Filled with profiles of nonprofits that have successfully implemented these techniques, this is well worth a read. I also feature some excerpts in my blog at www.nonprofitbridge.com.

There are a number of books that cover the theory, get seduced by the jargon and fall short of any helpful advice. This book isn't one of them. Thoughtfully presented with case studies and an impressive array of experts, you'll find yourself bookmarking pages and jotting down notes. I recommend this book to any NPO truly interested in effectively integrating social networking into their online marketing strategy.
