This book is both entertaining and informative, and scientifically argues why no one else will touch the subject matter.
This makes the ideal gift: I handed my Poop Culture over to my mom, and she loved it.

Primary Reference Work on Theology of DeificationReview Date: 2005-08-18
»The Divinization of the Christian« demonstrates how widely the conception of theosis was held in the early church and the role that it played in the major christological and pneumatological debates of the time. For scholars who are working in the fields of patristics or historical theology, this is an indispensable resource. For scholars in biblical studies, a substantial section also is devoted to the origins of the doctrine in the Bible and in pseudepigraphical writings.
Those familiar with the original work in French will find that the scholarly apparatus has been completely updated and a number of new features added, including a table of authors and works, a biblical index, and an extensive subject index.

The conflict is a struggle of principles for prominence, one that serves the sense of an individual free will against the "forces of nature" argued as capitalism. The prophet for the humanistic cause makes his choices and the captivated public echoes him enthusiastically whatever his position happens to be. Why? The business of amusement doesn't serve any great human design, only the ceremonious murder of boredom.
There is also a love story, that serves as an excellent compatibility experiment between the old and new. William Holden, our objective old school news executive is loyal to the news and the traditional values, and we see his transformation upon realizations of whether falling for the seductive charms of a mercenary agent of entertainment are really worth the conversion. And what is to be said of this new mercenary, how would she fare having to face the responsibility for genuine human experience? Who, needed whom?
I think my favorite part had to be the legal terms and conditions negotiations between the ecumenical liberation army and the network attorneys over the Mao Tse Tung Hour.
I am amazed at the extent to which the makers of this film demonstrated lucid self awareness with vivid and meaningful representations of the competing ideologies at work. I wonder to what extent the hippy celebrations for the dawning of the age of aquarious mantras had something to do with this film's themes, given its timing and central arguments against the hypocrisy inherent in the new order of things. Many have wondered if the hippy generations really added anything to the American Experience. Perhaps this film could be argued in favor of the cause to expand American awareness through creative license.
I think my review is only about 32 years overdue, however, I just discovered this film a couple of months ago, and to be honest, I was very young when it came out, more captivated by Sesame Street at that point in time.
Altogether a fascinating and intriguing story with brillint dialog, direction, performances and an outstanding story in general. I wonder how the people of Fox News would comment on this film given their current criticims.
One of a kind movie for the patient viewerReview Date: 2008-03-05
This film takes a little (or a lot depending the person) patience as a viewer. Beyond the pacing, I couldn't believe how on-point this movie was. Not simply about television and media, but about life. Wow, what a message this movie delivers to those who are listening. And this was 1976 to boot!
There are a few monologues from Howard that are fabulous and packed with emotion and words that may shake you, if only slightly. There Is a particular scene, when Howard is in the office talking to Max and Max tells him they are taking him off the air. Listen carefully to Howard's monologue about energy and purpose and oneness of life. Wow.
Peter Finch is fantastic, but all main players do excellent. He won the Oscar for best actor and it was certainly deserved. This move is worth seeing for his performance alone.
This movie should definitely find an audience in today's new age spiritual movement and those questioning the veils of society. It gets five stars from me. Highly recommended for the patient viewer.

BEST GUIDE FOR GENERAL INFORMATION!Review Date: 2008-05-13
best book everReview Date: 2008-03-29
The best part about this book is you can read it cover to cover and gain insight into all aspects of sex including the social history or you can grab the index and read only the sections that apply to you and you won't feel like you're missing something.

Awful.Review Date: 2008-02-19
Plus, this book does not even fit in every heterosexual relationship. It assumes that men have penises, women have vaginas, men are masculine, women are feminine, men prefer to top and penetrate his woman, women prefer to bottom and be penetrated by her man, et cetera. If you don't fit into these confines, you won't enjoy this book and it will be useless. There's an entire chapter about how men can't be intimate while women love relationships more than sex... and how being masculine is so sexy for a man while being feminine is so sexy for a woman. Pffffft.
Not to mention that this book focuses much more on men than on women. There's a whole chapter devoted to balls and another whole chapter devoted to foreskins. OK, cool, but where are the chapters about female anatomy, eg, the four hormones that influence the menstrual cycle? Oh, and where's the birth control chapter?
If you don't want to read a book with lame sport metaphors, gender-role specific guidelines, and entire sections on how to tell your kid about sex, don't pick this up.

Maybe it is idealistic for me to feel that "love conquers all" but having been married to my first and only husband for nearly thirty years and two children and two grandchildren, I KNOW that love does conquer all and that no matter what happens you can get past it and continue to live and be happy!!!

Funny and Chock Full of InformationReview Date: 2006-12-06
So many writers take themselves very serious when writing about sex, but The Guide pokes fun at sexual intimacy. It's wit was very appreciated. I recommend this book for anyone who is interested in any aspect of sex.

Replacing it!Review Date: 2005-02-05
This book doesn't demonize consentual sex at all. It's about making consentual sex pleasant and safe for both participants, and it does a great job. It covers topics other books haven't even touched! For example, one picture flatly demonstrates that a partner who helps out with the housework is far more likely to get sex than one who doesn't. How many books touch that third rail???
There are pictures showing the differences between circumsized and uncircumsized penises, as well as genitalia (male and female) of different shapes and sizes. I firmly believe that these will prevent emotionally painful experiences for many young adults beginning to have sex. The information is accessible, and having read the book before I know it will break the ice for the more detailed sex talk with my stepdaughter with both humor and seriousness, while at all times giving vital information.
Best sex book I've ever come acrossReview Date: 2000-08-02
Then I started flipping through it.
It was intelligent. And informative. And funny. And contained details and suggestions that I had actually never heard of. (The oral sex section in particular contains the most straightforward, clear and thoughtful instructions on this topic that I have ever come across, and I have not led a sheltered life.)
I bought it right away as the birthday gift I was looking for, but then ended up reading most of it before I gave it away. Now I'm back to buy another copy for another friend. The guy who gave this just one star probably was expecting another clinical social sex review with funny anecdotes, and not a guide that gives you detailed sexual advice that you can actually use. This is also not simply a book of positions, or a book of thinly disguised porn with deep-throating instructions. The advice given here is realistic, honest, and very, very useful.

Alas, I found myself continually intrigued by Praeger's unique research, and in the end I found that I was surprised that I had learned so much regarding the subject. To say it changed my life might be overstating the fact, but it certainly did change the way I considered one constant aspect of it.
The book was also well written, educational and thoughtful without being dry or stuffy. And the humor in the book is well balanced, managing to be clever without being over-the-top.
Poop Culture is a fun, quick read, and you will learn more than you ever thought you would about crap. And that's a good thing.
