I also felt like I had missed something along the way in this book. I went back and reread the beginning to make sure I hadn't skipped over something important when I was about half way through the book. It just didn't flow well to me. I thought the characters were silly not to have realized who they really were. Also, since the main femaile character was supposed to be very powerful and had almost defeated the bad guy before, why was she worried this time? The ending also left me cold. Altogether, I was very disappointed since I really enjoy reading vampire novels.

I didn't expect much after reading the back cover and was therefore pleasantly surprised by the well rounded the story of Jessica Fraser, psychologist and bed & breakfast owner in New Orleans. I'd categorize the book as a vampire mystery with some well placed love scenes thrown in rather than a vampire romance novel. There's a fresh new take on vampires and vampire hunters to surprise the reader and even though I wasn't compelled to read it in one day I was sufficiently interested by the story to finish the book and the further I read the more I was curious how the author would let it all end.

What A Read!!!

Jessica Fraser travels to Transylvania for a conference. She is plagued the night before with unrest and questions why the idea of travel has her so upset. Despite her misgivings she packs her bags and wings her way east. While in Romania she feels as if she's being watched by the man she dreams about called "Master." She meets a man named Bryan and he requests her help and Jessica is not sure if she should help him or not. She's hiding a secret but the attraction she feels for Bryan is too strong. Together they will team up to fight evil but will they have a chance to be happy after the dust settles?

What can you say...It's Heather Graham. This was a fantastic page turner and one that I highly recommend. It was thrilled to find this was a continuation of her vampire stories she penned under her other name Shannon Drake. Ms. Graham is a wonderful talent who manages to interweave several different storylines together which ultimately gives the book more depth. Bryan and Jessica are fine additions to the stories she's created and the chemistry that burns between them is sexy. I highly recommend this read.

I think the title for my review sums it up for me. There was so much meaningless dialogue between too many characters. I stopped reading every line and skipped ahead to the end to see "who dunnit". I felt the book could have been really good if the story had been better developed.

This was one of Heather's best books yet. I love the way she brings in characters from her other books.

Ms. Graham has a way of making her characters come to life. In each and every book, no matter where the setting is placed, I would love to visit.

I love to read for entertainment. A Heather Graham book never fails to give me that pleasure.

A paranormal romantic suspense, Graham dives right into the story here with Gen Wallace encountering the body of a floating woman underwater at her newest scuba diving job. When she surfaces in a panic, the rest of her crew searches for evidence of a body, but no one can find anything. Her new co-worker, Thor, a salvage worker, doubts her ability to be a responsible dive partner and worker, but Gen's reputation precedes her and she is allowed to continue on the dive. When Thor and Gen overcome their differences and end up lovers, Thor begins to believe the unnatural events that Gen encounters as he experiences a few himself. When the body of a woman surfaces, Gen's story is given some credence until she denies that it is the same woman. When more bodies are discovered, and the divers discover reports of more missing women, Gen and Thor unearth the paranormal ties to Gen's ghost and the grisly discoveries, as well as a newfound passion for one another.

When diving for treasure literally, Genevieve Wallace comes face to face with a dead woman. When this dead woman tries to speak to her she is frightened and races for the surface. She reports what she saw but fellow divers find nothing. This terrifies Genevieve but she takes the teasing of her friends with good cheer. What she doesn't take with good cheer is the condescending attitude of Thor Thompson. He is working the dive site along with her team. He thinks she is crazy and a possible danger to work with. She sees things and her dead lady keeps popping up and no one sees her. But when a dead body washes up on shore...the mystery of what or rather who Gen saw underwater should have been solved. But it hasn't. The dead lady is not the same one Gen has seen and Thor finds himself spending more and more time with her and thinks there just might be something to the "ghost" that haunts her. Their close working relationship as dive buddies is forcing them to rely on the other and it's not long before passion begins to burn between them. Can they stay one step ahead of what is going on with their hearts in tack?

This was a great read. A skillfully woven tale that includes, ghost, suspense, and of course romance as only Ms. Graham can create! Think romance meets Pirates of the Caribbean and you can imagine how entertained you will be. Thor and Gen are great characters and you will be kept guess as to who the baddie is up until the very end. Ms. Graham has vividly brought to life the Key's and if you are looking for a way to escape for just a little bit...this is the ticket!

This was Heather Grahams third book in the Viking Series. First was Golden Surrender (which I thought was the best out of the three), Second is The Vikings Woman, and Third is The Lord of the Wolves. This Series has been my favorite series for a long time now. If you like Alpha Males, then this book is good for you. Heather Grahams writing style is fabulous! She knows how to keep her readers attention on each and every page. I loved this book, one of my favorites.

Melisande's father is killed by a treacherous enemy and she is forced to marry Conar,an Irish/viking prince to save her home and her people from an enemy. After the wedding she is sent to a convent to grow up as she is only 13.Years later Conar and Melisande meet again when her home is again being attacked. He rescues her again and they fight then she is abducted. At this point most of the remainder of the story is told in flashback. The hero was a pretty decent character but the heroine behaved like a spoilt brat throughout the story. She's 13 at the start of the story and continues to act 13 to the end of the story.Conar deserved someone who was woman enough to accept the fact that the best way to protect her people and her home was to marry him and accept it without all the fuss that she made.I lost track of the number of times she called him viking;he knows he's a viking we know he's a viking did she have to keep saying it? It was a good story but the heroine's childish attitude spoilt most of it for me. The scenes with Conar and his family going into battle were far more interesting than any scene with the heroine.Rhiannon and Eric(The Viking's woman)made appearances, also Erin and Olaf(Golden Surrender). They helped the story to get a 3 star rating. The story would have been alot better if the heroine didn't fight the hero all through the story.

I started reading this author on a recommendation. I bought two of her books, this one and the Viking's Woman. I can honestly say this one is WAY better than Viking's woman, but that's not saying much. I know it's a task trying to create a realistic hero, who's structured properly for the period of the novel while exhibiting romantic and loving traits, but that's the gift of a creative writer. Graham seems to be lacking in this creativity. Is it too much to ask that a ROMANCE novel contain at least a smidgen of romantic build up. I do not constitute sex with romance, they're two entirely different animals. Injecting sex in a story does not make it a romantic story, nor does the hero throwing around declaration of possession over his wife constitute romance. "You're Mine...I'll never give you up...You belong to me," because of the period, I can accept these statements as loving, if they're mixed in with a healthy understanding of the character's dynamics. Graham does not utilize a writer's ability to build a personality for her characters to create a caring or bond with the reader.

The heroine was a yawn inducing bore. Her immaturity was understandable in the beginning because of her age, but it remained through out the story to the last page. Fear ruled Melisande during her initial meeting with Conar. But after that encounter, I lost the motivation for her behavior towards him. I did enjoy the interaction between Conar and his parents. The love, loyalty and genuine affection between Conar, his parents and his numerous siblings was more interesting than the lack luster relationship between him and his *destiny* with the hellion. I can honestly say he tried to bend and show affection towards Melisande, which is the reason I gave this book three stars.

THIS BOOK IS WONDERFUL!!!First off,I'm a little partial because I absolutely LOVE Viking Romances! In Lord of the Wolves, Heather Graham weaves an intricate tale of love, suspense, trust, and passion. Her characters, Melisande and Conar, are both strong-willed and sensual at the same time.I would love to tell you my favorite parts of the book (which is practically all of it!) but,I don't want to spoil it for anyone! Because of Graham's incredible plot, vivid detail and amazing characters, I COULD NOT put this book down! I STRONGLY advise anyone who is looking for a GREAT read and amazing story buy Lord of the Wolves. This novel is STILL and will always remain one of my absoutle FAVORITES! If you do buy it, I hope you enjoy it and have as much fun as I did reading it!

Ok, I read the Seance...zzz. Then the Dead Room...not bad. But this one really had me going. I was actually on end. It's a good read, will keep you entertained if not a bit spooked. You'll never guess who the killer is. It actually had me agog and left me going...NO WAY!

Overall, I recommend it. But you will have to read the Dead Room first. It toggles back and forth to it. Also, I totally enjoyed the story being introduced by a, shall we say, an otherwordly but familiar voice? Pick it up..it's good.

Review Date: 2008-05-02
This book continues the story of some of the characters in THE DEAD ROOM. While this story can stand alone, it's probably better if you read the previous book first.

P.I. Joe Connolly could use a change. The events of THE DEAD ROOM have left him with nothing but sadness. And now it may have opened the door to the dead. On the way to a charity event he witnesses an accident and stops to help--saving a young girl hidden in the back seat at the urging of a dead man. So naturally he skips the event and goes out to get drunk. Genevieve O'Brien, who was rescued from a harrowing kidnapping by a serial killer, hires Connolly to look into the murder of an Edgar Allen Poe society board member. Her mother is also a member and she's worried that others may be threatened. Genevieve, too, is haunted... not so much by the past, although everyone is extremely over-protective of her, but by similar ghosts that haunt Joe... And by new ones as the Poe Killings continue...

The main and supporting characters are totally sympathetic. Old friends from Harrison Investigations also make some nice cameos. There's some great information about Edgar Allen Poe's time in New York (and in Baltimore). The mystery is a pretty good one. I didn't see the solution until it was revealed. The only slight quibble I had was that some of the characters seemed to keep putting themselves at risk--going out alone into dark parking garages, for instance. But otherwise they weren't being unbearably stupid about it. I thought this was a good, solid, interesting read.

Still not fully healed from her near death experience social worker Genevieve O'Brien struggles to move on with her life though she still suffers nightmares from the killer's assaults. However, her efforts stall when Ravens literary society president Thorne Bigelow is murdered. That is followed by a second member almost dying in a car accident. Being fans of Poe, the other Ravens connect the two ugly incidents as not being coincidence. They, especially Genevieve's mom, wonders if a killer dubbed the Poe Killings, is targeting their reading club.

Worried about her mother, Genevieve asks her friend, private investigator Joe Connolly to make inquires. After some minor investigating with the advice of some ghosts, Joe tells Genevieve he agrees with the Ravens that a killer is stalking the book group.

Joe is a fascinating protagonist who talks to ghosts while Genevieve is a courageous individual who had her own near death experience, but will not back down from the Poe Killer investigation. Together they are an awesome sleuthing team as each begins to understand the true meaning of the Tell-Tale Heart. The investigation is fun to follow as his late cousin and is cuz's beloved help from the beyond (his Brooklyn apartment seems a bit over crowded and if the landlord learns of his ghostly borders will demand more rent). Paranormal romantic suspense fans will appreciate the lead couple's investigation into the Poe Killings.

I've read several of Graham's books, Devil's Mistress is definitely a good book. If you're the type of person who skims the books for the steamy passionate scenes, this book is not for you. The plot, though slightly predictable, is well worth reading the book through, and the end is definitely rewarding and odd, because you always think of your heroine's living forever in your mind, at least I do. Devil's Mistress is an awesome book, I also recommend A Pirate's Pleasure, also by Ms. Graham, and would strongly suggest that people not invest the money in Savage Sweet Eden.

This is the 1st pirate book I've read, and I thought it was very
good. I found some things a little too convenient, such as
ailing spouses, but aside from that, I really liked the book &
did not want it to end. It did have a happy ending, and I
didn't sob like a baby when it was finished, like I thought I
might.

How non-formula of you, Ms. Graham!

Review Date: 2000-01-25
Devil's Mistress is unlike any Historical Romance I have read in that it does not follow the standard formula for this type of novel. The book begins with a Prologue that lends an eeriness that makes the reader eager to get into the guts of the book. The book begins with a witch burning, a witch hunt and the hero and heroine meeting. Then the hero turns out to be married. Then the heroine gets married to someone else. This is what I mean about the book not following standard formula. You have to continue reading to see if and how the two could possibly get back together. The writing allowed me to feel the hysteria that permeated Salem in the late 1600s as the witch hunts began. The love story is poignant and understandable.

For me, the unusual way in which this book was presented makes it one of Ms. Graham's finest.

I have read better books by Heather Graham. The book was a bit drawn out could have been cut down by at least three chapters. The heroin pretty much worked my nerves. At times she was very naive. The book also became a little boring halfway through but all in all it was okay. I do suggest reading "A Pirates Pleasure" a very good book.

Fun and exciting romance with good historical context

Review Date: 1999-03-18
I REALLY enjoyed this book. The plot centers around the witch trials both of England and Salem. The heroine (unfortunately) falls victim to both and must be saved by the hero, Sloan, twice. The book gets off to a quick and exciting start-the first hundred-fifty pages are fabulous. The protagonists (whose names I don't remember) get together, have a few near misses with death, then hit it off nicely. Unfortunately, it slumps a bit after that with a very, very lengthy discription of their enforced separation. The action and romance both pick up again in the end, so I guess all's well that ends well.

All told, this book provided me with several extremly diverting hours, so, if that is all you are looking for, I suggest you read it as well.

I should have looked at how many people were eager to sell their copy and not just the reviews I saw below! The story line had a lot of potential but the mystery was never developed. The psycic ability didn't jive either... There was never any hint of who it would turn out to be and no reason for this person to have been the KILLER. The credability that this "mad " person could have fooled so many was beyond belief. That is for starters but even the romance part was purely physical and there was very little I found that made the couples work as a couple... Several couples are worked on in the book but not one seemed to have a strong basis for a relationship... I read the book through as I tend to do to see how all well it tied in but ... being a romance reader and I read about 25 books a month or more... I was not impressed . My bet is that it is geared to people who like their men to be hunks , their women Barbie DOLLs and their romance HOT LUST... and if there is a threat and he has to show cave man instincts to rescue her ... all the better.

Lust and trust get Kyle & Madison through their ordeals as their wealthy extended families play their roles in tracking down a serial killer.

Madison's psychic *gift* of being able to see the victims, but not the muderer and Kyle's FBI expertise, has this once step-brother & step-sister as a team working together at all odds.

Right now she "sees" a butchers knife being used on her mother. When the police finally arrive, Madison is unable to identify the killer. ...... Twelve years later, Madison is divorced and raising her daughter Carrie by herself. The visions of the man with the knife have returned just as the city of Miami is being stalked by a serial killer. The FBI send agent Kyle Montgomery, Madison's step-brother to protect her. However, he has his own problems including his very real attraction to Madison. Madison begins to realize that the Miami murders are linked to her own mother's violent death. Though she may be able to feel the killer, he apparently watches her every move. Slow burn is an excellent read. I have read of all of Heather Graham's bboks and once again, this is top notch. David's love for Spencer is for all time. Graham makes him come to life and he is very realistic. what you would expect of a virile Latin male. I could fall in love with him. Spencer is feisty and has gumption. although it is a bit sad, the ending makes it all worthwhile. If you're into romantic suspense, the villian is not too hard to figure out.

I love Heather Graham books, but this wasn't my favorite. It's good, but not quite a keeper. Read if you love trying to figure out who-done-it continuously. Too sad of a plot and head spinning with the suspicious actions of everyone around the main characters for me. I felt like I was being jerked around a little bit, led this way and that. Mainly, it just wasn't passionate enough and detailed enough for me in the romance part and that's why I read these books!

Wow! I haven't read a Graham book in a long time and I thought I would try out one of her contemporaries and boy was I shocked! I had only read her historicals all these years. This was excellent! The characters were so real and complex, I loved them! Especially the male lead of David Delgado. Whew, does he burn up the pages!!!

~Spencer Huntington just lost her husband, a police detective, to a brutal murder and now she is faced with the possibilty that the crime wasn't random at all. She needs help and only the trusted help of her husband's best friend and her former lover and ex-cop David Delgado. But, can she do it? She has to. She has to swallow her pride and put the past aside and get to the bottom of this heinous act.

David is from the wrong side of the tracks, being a former Cuban refugee as a child and struggling through life with nothing until his best friend Danny Huntington saved him. Danny made his friends David's too and they both fell in love with the same girl, a petite blonde rich girl named Spencer Montgomery. Ten years later, David is faced with his friend's murder and his widow, the only woman David ever loved.
...
Can their long lost love hinder their efforts for the truth or spur them on to the end? A killer awaits...

Gritty and very well written. As I would expect from Ms. Graham. David is very real and deep. Spencer is no 'rich girl' to be put on a shelf. These two make a real 'slow burn' on the pages and you will wish for more! The only complaint is that the killer is a little farfetched, but all in all, the story make up for it by far! Definate hot romance to read on a hot summer night even though I read it in March, lol.

I certainly felt like doing so when the murderer was unveiled. I won't give anything away if for some reason you decide to read this book, but believe me the murderer is the one person who absolutely could not have committed the crime... at least not without more explanation from Pozzessere as to the logistics of the crime. But I went back and checked and double-checked and I'm positive that this was a case of this author's habitual sloppiness with details. Forget this book. It's not worth the frustration.

IT SHOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED but it had. And in the years since then, Kit McHennessy had never been able to escape the memory of her one night of love with Justin O'Niall.

Now she was back in Ireland again, back in the tiny village of Shallywae and, before long, back in Justin's arms. But the past still haunted her, and there were questions to be answered before she could let herself think about love. Lives had been lost all those years ago, and the present seemed no less dangerous. Suddenly Kit was forced to realize that she might not live to taste the happiness a future with Justin offered.

There is mystery behind their first encounter that follows them into their second. Unable to deny their strong passion for each other, they rekindle a relationship that years before seemed wrong.

I was disappointed in this book for several reasons. The author uses a Scottish brogue instead of an Irish one. Big boo-boo. The two major characters are constantly fighting (when they aren't making love), which is contrary to sweet romance. They simply seem to never find a common plane on which they can both survive -- and this problem is never resolved believeably. And some passages are repeated several times unnecessarily.

I closed the book feeling dark and moody myself and would not recommend it to anyone just for that reason. Good points? Some interesting Irish history, perhaps, but when told with a Scottish brogue, very contrary.

Nope. If you want to read a love story set in Ireland, stick to Nora Roberts or Lisa Hendrix. They are feel-good stories. This one is not.

I love Heather Graham! I could not put this book down either, refering to A Customer's review. I have read a lot of her books twice. Craig is a great hero! Blair is a tricky heroine. This a a reprint from the early 1980's so it is a bit dated at times but I think that adds to its charm. Just read it and enjoy.

A fun, easy weekend read!

This was a great read! Once I started I couldn't put it down. This was my first Heather Graham novel and it sure won't be my last. It was a fased paced book that kept you more than interested. Taylor's torn sence of duty and love for Blair... was more than compelling! I look forward to more of Grahams works!

I was very disappointed in this book. The characters are very one diminsional. You don't even know or care about them before they are falling into bed together. I kept waiting for a DANGEROUS situation to happen, but none did. Taylor was supposed to be some superhuman agent - but all he did was pilot a boat down a river. The ending was very predictable. This could have been a really good book, but I had the feeling Ms Graham didn't want to take the time and then just hurry up and finish the story.

This civil war trilogy was absolutely wonderful. Heather Grahams books are almost always 5 stars anyway but I really loved these. They turned me on to civil war romances and now I read everyone I can find........which is no small feat.
Also.......on the subject of Heather Graham, the very best book I have ever read was her book "Shanna". I keep extra copies
to give as gifts and loan out. It was full of everything, love, suspense, intrigue, history and wonderful dialogue. Do yourself a favor and make shanna your next buy.

I think that One Wore Blue, And One Wore Gray, and And One Rode West are very interesting books. Once you start reading them, you can't put them down. Not only are they interesting, they are also historically correct. They include real people who did exsist in the time and very real facts. I would recommend this book to anyone.

Attributes like originality and plot wouldn't hurt

Have I read a worse book? porbably, but none comes to mind right now. A horrific- and even more damning: a BORING- collection of three novels which have a revolting tendency to stray into common territory. Joint synopsis: 3 beautiful, "spirited" belles flip for their 3 dark, handsome gents, who respectively happen to be on the other side of a raging Civil War. Under the combined weight of insipid characters, predictable conclusions, and the weakly depicted, watered-down Civil War scenario, the whole book fizzles into a veritable every-reader's-nightmare. What a waste of time and energy! and thank heaven I'll never make the mistake of reading something like that again!

one wore gray and one rode west are very worth reading

I lide reading Heather Graham`s books, and one wore gray please me much, I love Jesse, the hero and his heroin, Kiernan, they are exciting. One rode west was almost better, Jeremy is so sweet when he is boyish, christa is a adorable woman who in some way like Scarlett has the strength to survive the war and to save Camaron which I love very much
