This is an excellent study guide to help the reader understand symbols and imagery in the Bible.

This is a very good reference book. I have a couple of seminary graduates that recommended it to me.

a tremendous work of explaining the imagery found in the bible. The range of subjects are vast in scope. A must have reference resource for serious bible study. Goes a long way towards helping one to understand the various levels and ways that symbolic and picturesque meaning is used and construed in the bible. Deals with individual concepts, broad ranging themes, people, places, books of the bible, events and more. Top notch resource!!!

This book was one of the most unusual presents I have ever received. It was given to me by an individual who had enjoyed my teaching and thought I would find it helpful. It has proven to be an indispensible aid to Bible study and the understanding of deeper underlying themes of the symbolism which are so prevalent in the scriptures if you have the eyes to see them. The reader/researcher will find the material easy to use and well refrenced with historical and theological explanations. Although the Dictionary is written from a Protestant viewpoint, seekers of wisdom from a variety of different experiences will benefit from the insights and cultural revelations which can aid in unfolding deeper meaning through the symbolism, stories and pictures of the Bible.

The Dictionary of Biblical Imagery is an excellent reference for obtaining expanded meanings of the different words and images of the Bible. And even if it's a "dictionary", it is an enjoyable read straight through or even just when you want to hop from one entry to another. And for the price, it's a steal.

It was a timeless story.I was quite upset cause it wasn't all about horses.

This is a very good book. Although it features horses it is not completely about horses. It is a strange--in a good way--study into human nature, from Uncle's disturbing rage to Will's defiance.>>Summary<<Where will Christina fit in at Flambards, the once-prominent foxhunting stables? After riding a horse named Sweetbriar, she loves foxhunting, but life at Flambards isn't easy.}This book is excellent, for anyone. It is not a novel for children young than YA, for some scenes are mildly violent, and contains mature situtations. This is not to say the book is bad, it's just a warning. ;)...ps, I'm really 15, the adult form doesn't work.

I first read this trilogy 18 years ago, shortly after I had seen bits and pieces of the series of the same name on PBS, and I was unable to put it down. Although the books are geared towards young adults, do NOT let that hinder you--adults of any age will find these novels appealing because they are well-written, the characters are fully developed and engaging, and the storyline, with its triumphs and tragedies, is timeless. They are the stories of Christina, a young orphan who is sent to live with her uncle because she is an heiress and he needs her money to continue the lifestyle he is accustomed to living. The story progresses as Christina grows up, learning to both love Flambards, the ancestral home, and yet despise the backward-thinking ways of her uncle and his eldest son, Mark. It tells of the rivalry between Mark (the favorite) and William (the second son) not only for their father's love but for Christina's as well. It illustrates how life was changing in England at the time (just before WWI), and the hope that those changes brought to many who felt restricted by hide-bound Victorian (& Edwardian) rules. I think that readers will be able to relate to Christina, William, Mark, Dick, Sandy, and Dorothy regardless of their age, or where you grew up. I do suggest reading them in their proper sequence, beginning with "Flambards", continuing with "Edge of the Cloud", and finishing with "Flambards in Summer". I have read these novels again and again, and have loaned out my copy of the trilogy so many times. The author has a rare ability to truly take you back to an Edwardian county estate and to draw you into that world through Christina and her cousins. The books are very emotional, and have touched me in ways that other books depicting this era do not. I think that the best word for them is "haunting". It is too bad that they cannot be rated as 10 stars.

I'll admit it....I'm a Flambards Fanatic. I read this book in the early 80's, after seeing the series on television. I found the book at a local bookstore, loved every word, reread it immediately, ordered so many copies that the bookstore owner started calling me "The Flambards Lady". I was thrilled to be able to get another copy here at Amazon. This book is sometimes considered to be a child's book, but I think adults enjoy it very much. It's a marvelous, unforgettable story of love, loss, and picking up the pieces (or reins) and moving ahead. The series is available on VHS and DVD. I own both but prefer the DVD.

This moving story of the struggling relationships between Mark, Christiana, William and dick will touch the hearts of anyone who reads it. I finished reading the whole series a few days ago and i cannot forget the effect that these books had on me, i admit that i did cry at times. The book tells the story of christiana, an orphan, who is sent to live at the crumbling Flambards. It tells of her life and loves in the old manor. An excellently written story and a must read, especially for a country lass like myself!

Maybe it's not the first of the civ building type games, but it's the first rule set for those games. Played between H.G. Wells' kids, with him as moderator, this nation versus nation in combat and comerce game is still fun to play. It's very family oriented and a good way to bond with parents and kids. Since everything is physical there is no ambiguous rules to be misinterpreted, this helps belay blow ups between siblings. A fun fun game for all!

I am long-time gamer and also a great fan of H. G. Wells. When this reprint came out, I knew I just had to have it. It is really neat. Thanks to Skirmisher Publishing for making it available again!

If you haven't read H. G. Wells's "Floor Games" (and the later but better known "Little Wars") you owe it to yourself to check them out. They're funny, creative, insightful, and elegantly written--a century-old testament to Wells's genius. Kudos to Varhola and Skirmisher Publishing for rescuing these classics from obscurity.

I must admit I had not heard of "Floor Wars" prior to reading "Little Wars". The book predates "Little Wars" but is often considered a companion to the other book. It focuses more on the collecting and building of settings than actual wargaming. The books compliment each other well. "Floor Wars" sparked my imagination even more...taking me back to the little countries and armies that I used to think up in my youth. It was amusing listening to Wells go on about how good figures for certain periods and ranges were not available. I guess nothing really changes after all!

I too grew up on the north side of Chicago in the 1950s, in a half-Irish family. I enjoyed the story, which wasn't sensational but rang true. Most though I loved the rendering of 50's Chicago. Haven't thought about Goldblatt's in a long time, I confess. I wish the book was twice as long so I could revisit that Chicago of so long ago for a little while longer. Well done.

This is one of my favorite books, and I have passed it on to many. The story is both sad and funny (but mainly funny). I hated to see it end. Often we read books that are just okay, but this book is one of those "great book finds," something we hope to find in each book we take time for.

I loved this story. Not only were the escapades fun, but it's well-written as well. I was particularly interested because I grew up in a neighborhood not far from the one in the book. Many of the places mentioned were part of my youth.

I enjoyed this book. I grew up, a Roman Catholic in Chicago, IL. I also attended Catholic schools through all my education. I feel this novel is well written and captivating. It shares the daily struggles and joys of a family with its dark side and its nurturing side. I would recommend this book. I have a concern that for someone not raised in Chicago, it may not be as enjoyable.

Look at this list and see if any items bring back memories: Wieboldt's, "suntan lotion," Shedd Aquarium, forest preserves, "da boda ya," Belmont Avenue, trolley buses, Waveland Avenue, Wrigley Field, Ernie Banks, calling your mother "Ma," calling soda "pop." Well? If those make your past come blowing into your present, then this book is for you. Anyone who grew up in an ethnic working-class family around Chicago in the 50s and 60s will recognize these and the myriad other memory sparkers that appear in this book. The story is good too.

As a provider of internet related services to realtors, I found this book to be practical and well written to focus on creation of your web site, getting found - which normally means it's easier to pay per click. Get started and sending effective emails. As a self promoted internet optimization junkie, it's easy to understand and explains how things work, really there is no mystery to search engines, keywords, and meta-tags. Even the sales-focused agent who leaves the details to his marketing people and technical assistants will want this book - to give to them to read.

I have seen no other book devoted to the internet and real estate. This book is loaded with good information on setting up a web site for your real estate interests or business. The book is written that even a person unfamilar with the technical aspects of the internet can benefit from this book. This book written in 2001 is up to date in the ever changing world of the internet. There are tons of web sites listed in the book, which if that was all there was in this book would be valuable. Ideas on the content of your web site is provided, as well as a chapter on email. Conventions with email, and even email etiquette. Anybody involved in real estate, whether an agent, broker, investor, or an individual buyer and seller of real estate will want to read this book. Attention Realtors, Buy This Book: "Internet Marketing in Real Estate," by Barbara Cox and William Koelzer. Don't just buy it, read it. It could help your business immensely. It also could help you overcome your apprehension about all that World Wide Web mumbo-jumbo.

Finally, it could help to free you from the intimidation of all those salespersons clad in guru's clothing who conduct seminars and office meetings, touting the latest product or service that is claimed to be "essential" for your survival in the wild-and-wooly world of real estate in cyberspace.

No technical expertise is presumed on the part of the reader. Each part that deals with Internet and marketing related concepts begins with a friendly "learning the language" section. A great deal of effort is made to explain to the reader, in plain language aided with illustrations, how things work in the initially mysterious world of Web sites, search engines, keywords, and meta-tags.

Textbook-like, "Internet Marketing in Real Estate" starts its sections with "the basics" and then develops the concepts that have been introduced. Sections end with exercises that encourage the reader to put his/her new knowledge to work.

The book also integrates related topics that are not Internet specific. Chapter 1 of Part 1 could be titled "Real Estate Marketing 101." It is important toward understanding Internet marketing concepts but that is because it is basic to marketing per se. Parts of the effective e-mail" section are straight out of basic composition. They are highly relevant.

"Internet Marketing in Real Estate" doesn't deal with all the issues that bear discussing. No book does. For example, the authors do not engage the serious questions that can be asked vis-à-vis the relative effectiveness of dollars and time spent on Internet marketing as opposed to other kinds of marketing. That is not their purpose.

When confronted with a new marketing medium, a businessperson (real estate or otherwise) must always ask the question, "If I adopt this, what will I stop doing that I am doing now?" (If the task - or the dollars - represents an addition to present efforts, rather than a replacement, then presumably it replaces something we were doing or spending in our non-business lives.)

To the credit of Cox and Koelzer, they present with great clarity the tasks and range of costs associated with various levels of involvement in Internet marketing. They provide the real estate businessperson with the information that will enable him or her to make an informed decision about this medium.

For those who have already decided that they want to make an effort at Internet marketing, the Cox and Koelzer book will provide an invaluable tool. Even the sales-focused agent who leaves the details to his marketing people and technical assistants will want this book - to give to them to read.

Yum! This book is great! Easy to follow. Check out the BBQ chicken. My parents came over for the first time for dinner (I'm a newly wed) and they ooohh and ahhhh over the BBQ chicken and wanted to know what I did. Anyways, I can't wait to try other recipes in the book! A must recipe book to own for busy or newly wed people like me!

I can't say how much we have enjoyed this cookbook. It inspired my son (older teenager) to actually learn how to cook and cook well. Instead of grabbing a hamburger, he now looks in this cookbook and makes something to eat at home. The recipes are healthy and tasty and easy to prepare.

Fantastic book for treating myself right with a tasty, healthy dinner a couple nights a week.

Has also put me at ease with a few practiced recipes that I am confident serving to dates.

This cookbook makes it possible to cook healthy, tasty food after you've worked all day and without any compromises. Jennifer is an extremely talented and inspiring writer and cook and unlike most cooks, knows nutrition! As a busy Mom herself, you can't get better advice on what pleases kids. This is not just a list of good healthy recipes (the wonton soup and fruit compote for example are fabulous), but unlike other cookbooks, she actually explains in her introduction professional cooks' best kept secrets and is an inspiration for maintaining the delight of being with your family for a simple, delicious home cooked meal. Say goodbye to those styrofoam take-out dinners, Jennifer shows you how to cook a healthier, cheaper meal in about the same time. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that there are so few pictures, but the layout and design are topnotch.

As a mother of two picky under 8-year old boys this cookbook has been a treasure. My kids enjoy helping whip these dinners, lunches and breakfasts up with me and on top of that they enjoy eating them also.
We now have banana pancakes with honey-butter for breakfast instead of the usual high fat, high sugar, low nutrient breakfast cereals. They enjoy sandwiches other than pb&j for lunch (and yes, they are no-trade lunches as the title of the chapter says!) with veggies and a little dipping sauce. Our dinners are not as stressful for me because Jennifer teaches you how to stalk your pantry so you can get home and answer that age-old question "What's for dinner?" in a matter of minutes by surveying your supplies. Jennifer's cookbook brings the fun back to the kitchen. Thank you!

I followed Martin's swim via his web site from start to finish. Needless to say I couldn't wait for the book. I read it in just two sittings and found the insites into the man and his crew to be simpley amazing. Matthew wrote this as a day to day diary, just as the web site did. For those of us that will never experance the Amazon in person, it gives you the feel of the jungle and the strength and determation of this man. He has to considered one of the greatest and most unselfish people on this planet. To do this, to open the eyes of the rest of us to what is really happening with the inviornment is an accomplishment that no politican or hollywood movie could ever do. If we had Martin Strel running the governments of this world it would be a better place for all of us. Martin proves that anything is possible if you really want it. A must read for anyone who say's "I just can't do that".

This is your quintessential "page turner." Despite being fully aware of how the story ends, I found my fingers glued to the book, just dying to know what would happen next. In addition to chronicling Strel's astonishing athletic feet, Mohlke also allows the reader to voyeur his or her way onto the boat as we meet members of the crew and delve into small human dramas which unfold as they travel deeper into the deadly jungle, (I, too, can't wait for the movie.) All is written by an author who was masterfully able to marry articulacy with slang, and eloquence with wit. I loved it.

What Martin Strel did is unbelievable! This story is written beautifully to chronicle the journey through the jungle, as well as unveil the different sides of a man who seems incredibly human, yet not human, at the same time. The daily, journal style arrangement of this book has an easy, exciting flow and makes it near impossible to put down. I am exctied for the documentary "Big River Man" to come out, to put a face to all of the characters of the book!.....Here's to hoping that Martin's dream of peace, clean water, and friendship will be realized.

The story of a 'fat man' with the heart of a (sea)lion who swam the Amazon is one to inspire all of us who see ourselves in our dreams as athletes. It is compelling because it is often a life and death struggle with this overwelming monster of a river. It is also full of humanity, strength, frailty and beauty as it is the story of Martin and his support team who appreciate and deeply experience the wonder of the great river, the jungle and the different people along the way.

From the very first page, you know you are in for the story of your life. It is overwhelming to even think of the logistics involved in this unprecedented level of accomplishment - and even more so that it was the grueling feat of a man who, in most walks of life, would be well past his atheletic prime. Author, Matthew Mohlke, brings the reader onto the expedition, the highs and the lows. And if it is Martin's intent to remind the world of the need to preserve the beauty of our forests and rivers, he has accomplished just that with his passionate and unswerving devotion to this cause. In The Man Who Swam The Amazon, the authors share the danger and the beauty; taking the reader on a page-turning adventure that no script writer could ever improve upon. Thank you Martin and your whole incredible team for sharing all 3,274 miles with us; I could have read a page for every mile.

I needed this book right away for a Summer school class, and I received the book less than a week after ordering it!

In my view, this book (which looks like a collection of articles gathered up under several rubrics) shares typical achievements and flaws of all popular-math literature; namely, it's enjoyable and enlightening as far as historical and philosophical aspects of the material presented, yet when they authors actually get to mathematics, it becomes fragmeted, jerky, and confused. Symptomatic of this is the chapter on nonstandard calculus: the historical narrative is very interesting, yet the math proper is confused and incomprehensible. Perhaps that is because it's impossible to express it fully and right in a popularizing context; perhaps it is so because I'm too obtuse to have understood it (but then the most of the target audience is probably no better); or maybe it's because the authors didn't do a terribly good job of it. The next chapter (Fourier analysis) suffers from the same.

Overall, I say, it's a good, although overrated, book. Read it, get what you can out of it and don't fret about the rest: the book is really a collection of articles, apparently written for different purposes, at different times, and for different publications; the quality of writing varies from section to section, although the overall structure and topicality are unquestionably very good. The book has an extensive and diverse bibliography along with a rather mediocre (close to names-only) index. Well, no book is perfect, including this one: overall it's solid four stars -- recommended.

This is the wonderful first edition of The Mathematical Experience written by Philip J. Davis and Reuben Hersh. However it is NOT the study edition which was designed for use in the classroom. The ISBN number for the Study edition is: 0-8176-3739-7.

The authors deal with various important aspects of mathematics and about practising mathematics. They also deal with the philosophy of mathematics. By and large, they do it engagingly. Specifically, they tackle why mathematics seems to 'work'; how a mathematician actually goes about doing mathematics; they offer some light treatment of a few mathematical topics, and they illustrate mathematical thinking as well.

This book is best read by students thinking about choosing mathematics as a career, or even just as a field of study. Although, any layperson will come off with a greater appreciation of what mathematics is, and what mathematicians do.

Is all of pure mathematics a meaningless game? What are the contradictions that upset the very foundations of mathematics? If a can of tuna cost $1.05 how much does two cans of tuna cost (Pg. 71)? If you think you know the answer, don't be so sure. How old are the oldest mathematical tables? What is mathematics anyway, and why does it work? Can anyone prove that 1 + 1 = 2?
This is a book about the history and philosophy of mathematics. I'm certainly not a mathematician, and there are parts of the book I will never understand, yet the balance of it made the experience well worth while. The authors presented the material so that it is interesting and (mostly) easily understood. They have a creative way of making a difficult subject exciting. They do this by giving us insights into how mathematicians work and create. They live up to the title making mathematics a human experience by adding fascinating history. Frankly I was shocked when they pointing out how even mathematicians have made questionable assumptions and taken some basic "truths" on faith. They show the beauty of math in the "Aesthetic Component" chapter. Ultimately the question that comes up again and again is the question of whether or not we can really know anything about time and space independent of our own experience to make an adequate foundation for a complete system in mathematics. If you have ever wondered about the world of mathematics and the personalities involved you might consider this book. If you are a mathematics teacher you should read this book. If you are a mathematician you could find it quite unsettling.
It contains eight chapters, each one broken up into many subtitles so if you do get bogged down in the mathematics it isn't for long. There are 440 pages. I'd like to see a much more complete glossary for people like me who need it.

My wish is that everyone reads this brilliant book and of course get to know Neville Goddard's teachings and work. The Power of Awareness teaches each one of us how to improve our life and achieve what we really want. We will have the chance to discover that we can be so much more than we think we are, elevate our consciousness to a higher level, and find our real purpose.

What are you( the reviewer who only gave it 1 star) talking about mood psychology? If you are after a book to tell you about EQ or how you should control your emotions or how to get along well socially, then this book is not the one! This book is not even about psychology studies why and how people are screwed up! All that is really time wasting and achieves nothing.

This book by Neville Goddard tells you how you can shape your experience the way you want it. In fact, he is revealing to us what we already do morning noon and night! But most people are not aware of their thoughts that they are hypnotised by the external world and they feel helpless and scared.

What I like about Neville's method is that he teaches a method that bypasses all psychoanyalysis or any kind of analysis, for analysis are only to find reasons "Why" you have not succeeded! Those are actually excuses and traps that if you believe them, will rob you of your goal! Neville even goes one step further by teaching you to bypass the analysis of "How". My point is, most people do not achieve their goals because they are robbed by their "Why" and "How".

This book reveals how we create our own experience, and of course it will reveal to you some spiritual secrets and new understanding, for our whole life IS spiritual!

Neville's system is simple, easy to apply, and --- most importantly --- effective. Like many esoteric writers of his generation (the so-called "New Thought" movement), he frequently quotes the Bible to make his point. However, his point is usually 180 degrees removed from the traditional interpretation of the cited passage. Like another reviewer, I was initially put off by the constant references to "Holy Scripture". I kept asking myself why Neville felt the need to validate his system by appealing to authority. Once I got beyond my own mental hang-ups, I was able to appreciate fully what Neville was saying... and to apply it.

I'm now a big Neville fan, and have read several of his other books. But "Power of Awareness" is probably the only one you need to read. It lays out the entire system clearly and concisely.

By the way, anyone familiar with Israel Regardie (Golden Dawn) may appreciate knowing that he agreed with and approved of Neville's system ... but felt that most people lacked the simplicity and native imagination to use it as effectively as Neville was able to do. For such people, Regardie maintained that ritual work and a broader occult background was necessary.

As someone suspicious of ritual (talk about giving unnecessary deference to our religious heritage!) and tending to believe that most 'occult powers' are misunderstood manifestations of our own unconscious being, I much prefer Neville's approach.

"The Power of Awareness" shows us how to use our minds to fulfill our wishes. It is like teaching someone how to make their dreams come true! I believe it provided an insightful prospective as to how to realize the power that we all how to control the direction of our lives, the "power of awareness". Useful and informative, and set in an easy to understand and follow format. I recommend reading this book to anyone and everyone. Realize the truth, take control, and use the power of awareness to your advantage!

The Power of Awareness is a hidden jewel. For over 34 years, I've been studying Spiritual Masters, and although there are many with valuable information, Neville, uncovers the mystery in attaining your deepest desires. A step by step process, where by you receive the tools necessary to manifest your intentions. A book to refer to, always, as you must practice this wisdom daily and do your "internal" work. It's not a magic bullet, there are none. Yet the more you re-read, you have the keys to unfold your magnificent life. Buy it, you'll be amazed.

This book is so endearing. It truly is a challenge to keep our society G-Rated. The Hatch family is the Swiss Family Robinson of the 21st Century.
Buy this book for any parent that you know!

Brent and Phelecia Hatch have seven children; and they are parents who are unafraid to admit they're not perfect. I met Brent at Book Expo America and joked, "I tell my husband he's the calm and I'm the storm." He said he and his wife were the exact opposite. The Hatches admit their shortcomings and help you learn how to overcome those shortcomings and others. Now that I've read this book, maybe my children will see the movie "Old Yeller" in the DVD store and not think it's about me!

I am father of Six truly believe if everyone followed with the advice in this book we would have less problems in our homes and society.

I have raised three children myself and it would have been wonderful if this book was in circulation at that time. There are so may different experiences the Hatchs have come across in their life time and I'm sure each of us can relate to at least a few of these. Their helpful ways to look at these situations is so informative. Just to step back, look at our own relationships and reactions, then give that hug, count to ten, take that walk, and make that necessary change to help move forward today. It's never to late and although different experiences may take longer than others, raising children in this X rated world or just handling all relationships for the better, make this book worth it's reading. I had the pleasure to see Brent Hatch deliver the Keynote address at the Parenting University in Valencia, California. It was excellent! Brent Hatch's positive attitude is absolutely contagious. It was everything I expected from the book and more! He had the audience laughing, hugging, crying, and more importantly, motivated to be better parents. The 10 tools in his book and seminar are simple and immediately applicable. After the seminar, everyone was walking around using the Hug Card, laughing and giving each other hugs. I overheard many people saying that they did not come from "hugging" families, but that they wanted to change that with their children. People were excited to go home and immediately start a "Cotton ball jar" or "Band-aid Magnet" with their kids.
