My 3.5 year old son is ready to give up nap, but I wasn't ready to give up my afternoon quiet time. This was the perfect solution. I put one of these CDs in and he lays down and listens. There is nice music throughout and the storytellers all have very pleasant voices. There are 2 CDs in this set, each with over an hour of storytelling. He likes them so much that he frequently gets up after the first CD is over and asks for the other one, so I get 2 hours of quiet and he gets the rest he still needs to get through his day. I will definitely be getting the other CDs in this series.

When our children were little, every Friday evening on NPR radio, Rabbit Ears would share these treasures. The stories are excellent with movie stars reading the story and famous musicians doing the music. It is exciting to have these now on cd's! I love the Talking Eggs!

Inspired by Jodie Foster's film of the same name--Home for the Holidays contains more than 60 kitchen-tested recipes, from appetizers to desserts, including vegetarian dishes. of color photos.

Home for the Holidays is dedicated "to our mothers, who taught us everything about saying 'thank you' on command, overeating, and the culinary miracle of salt." This dedication alone should be a tip off to the kind of wit, joy and heart warming recipes of our growing up that the book contains.

Allright, perhaps that is not such a ringing endorsment. But "Jodie Foster a Life on screen" is a fine book. It is a must read for any of Ms. Fosters fans. Indeed for anyone interested in American film. Debateably Ms. Foster is the most powerful woman in film. She is also feircely private. This makes for no easy task when one has to write a bio about someone who refuses to discuss anything about there romantic life, and has had everything else about her published in magasines. This book manages to find interesting things that I did not know about. I am a devoted fan and have read every magasine article I can find. This book provides thoughtful insights and is an interesting read. Saddly Ms. Fosters life story could not be told without including that whole "Hinkley" thing. The book does not dwell on it or give that person any more attention then he deserves. The nicest part is the way the author, Philippa Kennedy, does her very best not to trash Jodies father, Lucius, he divorced his wife Brandy before Jodie was born. He is given a chapter and allowed to present his side. Buddy Foster is also given a chapter. Saddly he has written a "tell All" biography which I, and I would hope, all other true fans, refuse to read. Phillipa Kennedy does a fine job writing the life story of a famouse person who discusses little about herself.

Many biographies are written for money, the authors job, or many other factors...rarely is it for pure interest in the famous figure at hand. This book is one of those rare and special books that make you WANT to see the work the star has been in, that doesn't lessen your enjoyment of the movies because of what you know about the actor (perhaps that is Ms. Foster's flawless privacy). This book is about one of the true actresses of our time, who is as true to the camera as she is to the interviewer (when answering questions she is willing to discuss). It has not only increased my knowledge of Jodie Foster herself, but reminded me of what she has been through, and how valiantly she came through them. I loved this book, and I think that most movie buffs or plain fans will as well.

Not your typicle "unauthorised biography

When one thinks of an "unathorised biography" one thinks of "Kitty Kelly" tell-all books. The basic point of writing one seems to be, as I can see it, to discredit or otherwise say nasty things about the person being written about. The public then buys this in hopes of reading some hidden nastiness about the person. "Jodie" is not like this. It is, as the author states in the begining, honorable work. No unconfirmed sexual encounters are mentioned. A staple in "unathorised Biographys" particularly of actresses. No this is not a book for anyone wishing to peek into Ms. Foster's private affairs. It is a dillagent, thoughtful and detailed (detailed nearly to a fault) look at Ms. Fosters life and collected works. Since there is no direct interviews with the lady herself (she refused interviews with Luois Chunovic, no doubt due to he release of the authorised version) and so, rather then print hearsay and rumer Mr. Chunovic goes painstakeingly through Jodie's many, many filmas and TV appearances and writes virtually every minute aspect of every film. This book is a goldmine of Jodie trivia and has every possible thing one could ever want to know about this fascinating woman, except of course, what she keeps to herself. He rarely interjects opinion's and keeps to the facts. It is hard to say if Ilike this one better then "a life on screen" but I certainly liked it at least as much. A fine example of an honorable unauthorised biography.

This is an awesome movie for what it is. There were many back n' forth's going on with how people felt about it. Some people didn't like it, but they don't really give a clear, clean, cut believable reason as to why they don't. They're reason is as a couch film critic's perspective as to what they would've done if they had shot this film. Go ahead, shoot the film your way then. I didn't see any flaws in this picture. I thought everyone did a fantastic job from Director, David Fincher's meticulous and detailed directing to one of cinema's top actors, Jodie Foster carrying an entire film mostly shot in a room. The main drive of this movie is about an ordinary human being having to quickly pull it together and fight when faced with conflict. The three-disc set is definitely the one to get, as the price is dropping just as low as the one disc, plus if you have any dream to be in the film business on any level and not sure what it's like to make a movie, this is one of the best interpretations of what goes on in production, and it's not Hollywood lights and limos, you are taken through an almost step by step film school fly on the wall version of how hard people work to make a film, it's clearly not something that any critic or film goer can do, whether or not you like the film is irrelevant, the passion and work ethic that these people have is pretty incredible, and on this special edition extra discs set it definitely shows.

David Fincher's pacing and cinematography is worthy of praise. This movie written by David koepp is a stunner. Jodie and Forest whitaker shine as the stars. It is a simple cat and mouse game yet not a minute of the movie deviates from the suspense. It is the minimality of digression that is the key here. The director does not leave the story line to chase any ponderous or emotional moments. From when the burglars enter the house till the very end the suspense refuses to die. The concept of the panic room, the strong hold, the very room the burglars are after is novel. In many places in the movie the tables are turned and the movie goes from jodie's character has upper hand TO burglars have upper hand sitation. In the end Jodie's character goes into the Bruce Willis Die hard mode. One pitted against the gang where she has to outwit them. The movie is violent and brutal in the scenes where it is necessary. The fun is in how the burglars try to get Jodie's character to come out of the panic room. Nicole Kidman was originally to star in the role of Meg Altman (Jodie), but had to back out due to a knee injury she sustained during the filming of Moulin Rouge. However, she did add her voice to the movie portraying Steven Altman's girlfriend and talking with Meg Altman on the phone. The movie is fully shot in a house and it's amazing how even without change of environments, sets and no expensive costume design, one is still glued to the screen. The location is still the same house. So where lies the gem ?. The gem is in the suspense and plotting and in the deep seated desire of every movie goer to see the underdog win.

Director: David Fincher.
Starring: Jodie Foster, Kristen Stewart, Forest Whitaker, Jared Leto.
When burglars break into their home, Foster and daughter Steward head for a sealed-off, impregnable bunker; fine and dandy-o, then, except what the burglars want is hidden in the panic room. A superbly constructed thriller from director Fincher (Seven, Fight Club) that boasts almost unbearable tension.

New York itself plays a major role in Panic Room, where the paranoid need protection from the hyper, anxiety-saturated dark element. It's, evidently, where back-alley threats and urban terrorists attack the pure and virtuous wealthy New Yorkers.

Meg Altman (Jodie Foster) and her daughter Sarah (Kristen Stewart) are living in a spacious Upper West Side brownstone town house, with architecture that reflects the priciest of pricy New York abodes - large and expensive enough for three or four young professionals to live in, and they'd still have to live off of ramen a few times per week. Meg attained her home via the money-grubbing divorcee route, with real estate revenge as her sole purpose for even choosing the Richie Rich option in housing.

In this ridiculously large home in which Meg and her daughter have ten times the room they truly need, there is no real need to furnish the house. Instead, Meg is worried about her WASPish needs such as finding the corkscrew for her wine bottle, how to steal more money from her ex-husband, and, oh yeah, making sure she has enough diabetes medicine for her daughter. On top of all the other opulence, they have a luxury above all other needless luxuries: a panic room. This panic room is the amenity of all amenities, and for only the filthy rich. It acts as a barricade for an extended period of time for any and all rich occupants, and via its Ft. Knox security and armaggedon stockage, all rich occupants remain safe from all non-rich people.

In the case of this movie, I was kind of hoping that the criminals would win because the money and security clearly wasn't earned. However, the three criminals in his movie aren't that lucky. Burnham (Forest Whitaker) is a safe-cracking, goofy-as-hell yet somehow intelligent role tailor made for Forest Whitaker. Junior (Jared Leto) is the ADD-riddled, get rich quick bad element generically typical in every psychological thriller. And Raoul (Dwight Yoakam) is the heartless psychopath of the group, ubiquitous to this type of movie. While fighting for power and control, the criminals build tension and suspense, allowing the viewer to not only choose sides between Meg and the villians, but also amongst the villians themselves.

Generic maternal instinct provides determination enough to thwart the bad guys in a foreshadowed Lavergne and Shirley meets Jackass style of female empowerment ending. I knew the ending about halfway through, but it didn't suffer a loss of entertainment value as a result. Good movie.

Like with most public figures, reading about the growth path of this talented star was enjoyable. Written by her brother, a public figure himself, was well done and informative. The perspective is unique and comes across as "telling it like it was".

Like most people, i initially thought, "oh great, i want to read about jodie, but this guy's going to spend most of the book talking about himself." the irony is, as the book went on, i realized, his life seemed a lot more interesting than hers, and if anything, i wanted to know more about his life. Jodie's life seems more cut and dry, boring, and conservative.
The first half of the book is interesting as it details how much resentment buddy holds for his mother, and colours in what we dont know about jodie's upbringing. The 2nd half of the book was slower going as it was clear buddy didnt have much interaction with his sister since the late 70's, and most of the information is filler gleaned from interviews.
I spent a lot of the book thinking, man, this guy does seem to love his family, and he did seem to go out of his way to be fair and honest, but boy oh boy, for a who wants his family to be closer together, you gotta figure this book just might blow it further apart than ever.

i thought the book was pretty good. i agree with what someone said earlier. we want to hear about jodie not about buddy and all of his complaints, but i thought he did a pretty good job. jodie seems like such an interesting person. its funny b/c everytime i see her, even in her recent movies, she will make some facial expression and it will remind me of freaky friday. i love that movie. anyway, this is the only "jodie" book that i have read but i'm reading another one so i'll have something to compare it to. i wish that she would write and autobiography. that would be cool.

a brother loves his sister

Well, Buddy Foster may or may not have written this book for the $$, but after reading it, despite the fact that he probably made his sister really mad at him for disclosing all the family foibles, secrets, etc., it so so apparent that this is a brother who geniunely loves his sister. I like seeing that. As a baby sister myself, I know how terrific it feels for your siblings to adore you. It's a sweet deal. I hope that by now (what is it? five years later; today is 2/14/03), Jodie fully realizes that and has forgiven Buddy. He seems like a pretty nice fellow despite his admitted faults.

This book is the Cliff Notes version of Jodie Foster's life. It is pretty to look at but doesn't offer anything new for Jodie Foster fans. Most of the info has been rehashed before in a variety of other sources (books, magazines, interviews, et al). If you lead a pristine life, know nothing about Jodie Foster, and enjoy brevity and a light lunch, then this is the book for you. If you like dirt, then dig through her brother Buddy's tell all book FOSTER CHILD. Everything else is a secret.

This book is obviously well-researched and is elegantly written. Jodie Foster is a smart and fascinating lady who's been through quite a bit in her lifetime. The author clearly did her research and presents the subject sympathetically, yet honestly. The paperback version is probably the one with the most value.
