Clubs Books

This book was great for my existing book club- it gave us new ideas and discussion questions to liven up our meetings. The recipes are delicious and add to the "flavor" of our discussions. This is a beautifully done book- anyone thinking about starting a book club or if you have a club already can appreciate it's elegance
and insights.

This book provides the reader with helpful hints for starting a book club as well as a wide selection of books and discussion questions that will leave book club members reading and discussing for years. The reader will also not be able to resist trying out one of the delicious recipes that are beautifully displayed throughout the book. A very beautiful as well as useful book!!

Good Books, Good Friends, Good Food is a book that is of great interest to me on a number of levels. I like reading, especially the classics. This book gives a quick synopsis of some really good books as well as tidbits on the authors. I found these little sidelights to be very interesting. The recipes have produced some truly delicious foods that were most delightful. These are my favorite parts and I am sure others who are interested will appreciate the wonderful, step by step suggestions on how to start a successful book club. Included are great questions and ideas for discussion in a book club. In addition, it is a beautiful book to look through. I liked the book so well I bought 10 and gave them to my 4 daughters, my Mom, my sister & sisters-in-law, a dear fried, and of course, one for me.

This book is so versatile! It is a great resource for book ideas, discussion topics for book club meetings, and a recipe book as well. There are so many great books and recipes, it can be used over and over.
It is also great for personal use even if you are not in a book club as it gives great ideas for books to read, and interesting facts to think about as you read the book.

I purchased a copy of this book over twenty years ago when my children were young. It quickly became a favorite of ours as it also became a family tradition. Each Thanksgiving at bedtime I would begin reading a few pages to my son and daughter, and continued until the week of Christmas. My children were always as eager to hear the story no matter how many years I read it. I teach first grade and also read it to my students each year. They love it! I now am purchasing a copy for my two grandchildren so they can begin their own and continue the family tradition. A great book with a wonderful plot, dialog, and super characters. I recommend this book for parents to enjoy with their children.

AND it's not being published! Tell me where I can get it! Please! Have searched my brain for the name of this book and just got lucky. Wonderful book, from what I can remember, since I, too, read it long ago. If the reader from Tampa FL can tell me where to get it, I would be forever grateful!

I was fortunate enough to receive a copy of this tale one Christmas over fifteen years ago, and ever since, my dramatic reading the story one chapter a night until the finale on Christmas Eve has become a cherished family tradition. I admit I have read the other Marvin, Fats & Raymond stories as well, but this one often seems to be the one that keeps us coming back year after year. I hope the story one year take its place next to Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree & The Christmas Box. Don't miss reading this classic.

I read this book as a child twenty years ago and now find myself narrating this wonderful story to my children. It is as exciting to them now as it was to me then. The never ending excitment and suspense captures the imagination of all children as they see themselves living in the dollhouse at Macy's among their favorite toys. No library should be without this book.

Even though the story is rather long (it takes me about 30 minutes to read it aloud cover to cover), it keeps our children fully engaged, and the illustrations are absolutely fantastic. This is one of those books we will always keep and pass on from one generation to the next.

Marvelous illustrations. Great story about how brains can win out over braun. The Great Quillow is a character to be admired. Told with humor and feeling. I purchased my own copy to keep. One of the best.

As a fifth grader,I was enthralled by this book, partially because of the illustrations in the orginal edition. I have thought of it often during the past 55 years (I am now almost 64) and was overjoyed when I found that it was avaiable, and in print. I ordered it, and waited for it to arrive with eager anticipation. Imagine my horror when it arrived with illustrations totally out of keeping with the spirit of the Great Quillow, and certainly a far cry fro the originals. The great Quillow was a peaceful person, did not require force of arms or strength to overcome the Giant. The ugly and distorted illustrations in the new editions are a travesty. Is there any way to find a copy of the original edition?

This book is great... I got it when I was nine, and I loved it. Now, I am becoming a certified babysitter, and this really prepped me for what to do in an emergency, meal prep, games to play, bath/bedtime, babies, toddlers, bigger kids, it was an excellent reference to look back to when you don't know what to do with something. If something goes wrong, you call 9-1-1, but what do you do with the other children? What about bathing? What happens if the baby won't stop crying? What happens with fights? Is it rude to dicipline other people's children, even when you are watching them?

I got this book when I was 10 years old. I always wanted to babysit, but I was too young. This book got me prepared for babysitting. It tought me what to do and what not to do, while babysitting. It also gave me suggestions on things to do with children of all ages. This is a great book! If you want to or already do babysit, this is one of the greatest books you can get!

I thought this book was good. It has very, very helpful tips on advertisment, getting started, meal tips, and so on. I liked the part with questions answered and a place to write about jobs and other info. I wish they print more things to do with kids at different ages. I mean you can't play games all the time. But the part with what to do in emergencies was GREAT!

This book is a must have for good baby-sitters! It offers tips on everything from snacks to bathtime to bedtime. It even has a first aid section! Ms. Martian answers questions, there are pages about other baby-sitting clubs and there is even a section in the back to help you start a record book, notebook, client book and for your earnings. I would buy this book!!

This is such a cute book for kids. It's easy reading and great illustrations to for the kids to look at. This has always been a favorite of mine.

I LOVE this book. It's one of the few books that I kept from my childhood and still flip through it every once in awhile and it brings so many memories back of my mom reading it to me. It's a wonderful and timeless children's book.

I like this book because it was a good story and interesting. This story is about a ghost named Gus that is friendly. The lives in an abandon house that no one lives, but a family lives in the house during summer. Their name is the Scott family, with Mr and Mrs. Scott and theirs children Susie and Sammy. This family isn't afraid of ghost or believes in them, so they like going to the house. During the winters the Scotts go back to their own house. Gus is always lonely without them there because he always amuses the family by rattling and clanking in the attic. One day Gus goes out and finds Mouse, who is very cold because its winter. Gus asks Mouse back to the house and spend some time with him. They go back to the house and Mouse is cold, so with Gus's power he makes a fire. Mouse is hungry and Gus isn't because ghost don't get hungry, so with Gus's power, he makes Mouse a cheese sandwich. The next day the Scotts come back to the house and they don't like mice. Read the book to find out what happens to Mouse and the Scotts.

THIS IS ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES! I REMEMEBER READING ALL ABOUT GUS LIVING IN THE ATTIC TRYING TO KEEP THE HOUSE HAUNTED BUT IN A FRIENDLY WAY. I LOVED HIS COLORED SHEETS AND LAUNDY DAYS! I DO REMEMBER THERE BEING OTHER BOOKS IN THIS GUS SERIES!

Wishbone is a lovable ,talking, pooch full of stories. He has a tail overflowing in excitement, as the humans around him try to grasp what is truly going on.
Aside from all the cuteness,Wishbone explains words the reader may not know. His words are bold, for simple reference.
This story isn't overly scary, nor wordy. It has enough adventure to keep young readers wanting more.

Someone is haunting the clubhouse that Joe, Sam, David are hanging out in with some new kids. The person is found, but the REAL mystery is just beginning!

This book is super! This mystery has another mystery inside the first one! The end of the book is extremely surprising!!! I finished this book over the weekend because it was so good!

As in all Wishbone tales this story has us looking at a famous book and dealing with another story. In the case of the mystery tales we have a mystery in another mystery. This makes for a doubly mysterious book. It was funny and kind of scary. It as a surprise at the end as all mysteries are. I liked the book and thing everyone should read the whole series.

Another fabulous adventure in one of my pre-teen favorite series' was "Hayride!" I loved it because of all the boy-girl stuff (I was just getting into boys) and it was just a really entertaining book! Reccommended to any young girl, Saddle Club reader or not!

When I used to read the Saddle Club books, this was one of my favs. I loved the way Stevie schemed Bob and Lisa's relationship and Veronica's failed scheme added to the hysterias! I love this one!

This book, I could read over and over. Friendship, in this book you see the speacial bond friends have and i admire the one between Stevie,Lisa and Carole. Carole wants a speacial party but something turns up that ruins it, READ THIS BOOK!!!!

Carole's birthday is coming up and she wants to do something speacial. Stevie and lisa think that it's a great idea. Carole deserves something special for her birthday. Not just special, something horsey. Then they come up with the perfect plan. A hayride! They invite girls and boys to a basic party and then they go for a hayride. It's perfect! But their plans shatter when Carole hurts her leg and won't be able to dance at the party. They decide to have the party anyway, so they invite everyone at Pine Hollow. But word gets out around the stables before snooty Veronica gets her invite. Now she's out to ruin the party for The saddle Club. She calls Cam and Phil (Carole and Stevie's boyfriends) and tells them something to make them not come. As for Lisa... Veronica gets the idea that Simon, the boy who's been crushing on Lisa, is Lisa's boyfriend. She snags him as a partner to go to the dance with, planning to go to the party she wasn't invited to with Lisa's boyfriend. But Lisa has help from Stevie to get her real crush as a date. Turns out Veronica was invited, though.

Read this book, it's great!

This is an excellent book that has been well researched. I am a decendant of Henry Rains on my mother's side and have been trying to find out a lot more about my mom's side of the family. This book saved me countless hours of research and I haven't found anything so far in my research that disagrees with what is written in this book.

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this well researched book written by David S. Rains. It is easy to follow the journey this family made. I am a Rains descendant who is searching for my roots, but alas I was not connected through Henry Rains lineage. I would recommend this book to anyone searching the Rains line and to those that are collectors of historical families.

I must say this book was very insightful and met all my expectations. Especially knowing my uncle David Rains wrote this
book. Comming from a hard working man who I know put 100% effort into obtaining all the historical facts, Must of dedicated all his time to research the information. I have no doubt in my mind that every thing in this book is accurate. It was so nice to sit back and read a book about my ancestors. I would have never known any these things if my uncle David Rains didn't write this book. I encourage all family members and non-family members as well to purshes this book.

What a ride! Carlos is your everyday hero, who could be your neighbor!!! I couldn't stop reading until I finished . What a story. I hope we will see more of Carlos in the future. Let's get a sequal out soon.

This book grabs you and brings you into a world unknown to most Americans. It is a witty, inciteful and factual look into the world of most Cubans following Castro's rise to power. While the book itself is fictional the events that took place could very well have happened. While it does not have the far-fetched, only in your dreams action of Hollywood, it is highly engaging and still maintains suspense and intrigue ( a refreshing change of pace from the blood and guts of most action/suspense books). Two emphatic thumbs up!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It kept my interest from beginning to end. It seems it contained historical information about Cuba and the dictorship in control of that country. The characters were developed in a very likeable and believeable manner. I highly recommend this fictional novel.

Very entertaining and informative. After I got into the plot I couldn't put it down. Would be a sequence? I know the author and that is amazing, we live in the same town!
