This is an exquisite collection of stories. Barbara Klein Moss is a master storyteller whose prose is glorious - poetic, intelligent, wry and rich in metaphor.
The characters are inventive, the observations are astute, and every story is complex, sophisticated and skillfully crafted. The novella alone is worth the price of this book.

Moving Tale

Barbara Rogan paints an incisive portrait of life in small-town America, definitely not Norman Rockwell. Here are murderers, bigots, small-minded busybodies. Jane Goncalves and her foster children left the big city to escape these things, but find themselves embroiled in controversy and strife. Sam Rockwell exists in a shadowy purgatory of grief after losing his beloved wife to cancer. Sam and Jane come together in the face of adversity and form a deep bond, showing that the best families aren't necessarily related by blood.

A moving story of unlikely bonds formed by tragic events.

Rowing in Eden is an insightful look at small town americana in the 1990's and of the darkness that lurks beneath the the post card exterior of the seemingly ideal town of Old Wickham. While parts of the story are predictable and the villains are, at times, somewhat one dimensional, what separates this story from others of its type are Rogan's rich drawings of the three main characters and the separate tragedies that unite them. Rowing in Eden is solemn, haunting, and yet a strangely uplifting story about love and hate, death and living, fear of the unknown, and bonds that form in adversity.Rowing in Eden is not a triumph of the human spirit spirit, but rather a testament to its perseverance. I strongly recommend this book to fans of slice-of-life fiction.

This book was sweet and short. It pulled me more in the emotional sense. Too bad it was short. The plot seemed to easy and there was really no conflict for the main characters to solve but sept for their feelings for one another. But anyway I did like it because it kept me up all night and I could not put it down.

For all you cynics who belive that romance is dead , perhaps it was not your partner . After all you had been working hard that week , and even if it was , how can you be so sure ,that checking into a motel as mr and mrs smith for two hours , was in any way suspicious . Dear old Barbara would put your mind at rest.and in these perfumed pages ,our old hearts are set to flutter as love blossoms . First its a good old fashioned tale of passion and hatred , between Lord Cockbury the seventh earl of undergarb ,and his fiery half gypsy half aubergine dentist . The tale ends as you would expect from such romantic fiction ,with the two lovers .fighting a naked duel on the Westminster bridge at midnight ,with only a few out of date tomatoes dying in the snow along with the lovers . Sob sob I can not continue its all too heart renching . My only complaint with these stories ,is that far too often the villain of the piece ,turns out to be wearing thermal underwear ,all the better for hiding tropical fish I suppose .

PINK BLOOMERS . THE OVER HOT WASHING MACHINE .

One has to marvel at the prolific writing skills of dear Barbara . I once owned a horse that refused to eat its oats , but would gnaw cheerfully ,on a Barbara Cartland book ,then tap dance for hours ,with a rose between its teeth .The sheer romance of her work enthralls , even those of us with four feet .In this delightful book we are transported to the world of Dukes and there Coconut carvings . The Duke who married a fire engine ,never laugh at a bowl of stewed prunes , and a touch of an unemployed town crier . All three are little pebbles in the hillwalkers boot . OH I do wish Henry would stop pestering the gardeners daughter .

For the romantic at heart (cynics please abstain)

The first time I read a Barbara Cartland book, I was transported, as she would write, like an angel up to heaven! Her stories are a combination of the "Contesse de Ségur" books I loved as a child and the "Angélique" movies I still love as a woman. I love the way she writes. Perhaps I am old-fashioned, but her tales of innocence and tenderness touch me on a fundamental level.

It was cute as usally. Typical of a Barbara Cartland book. If you read Barbara Cartland book before you will realised that she is an author that stresses love will conquer all philosophy. Unfortunately, she tends to write very little and tends to be brief to the point. These stories are very consise and moving for your emotions. You will not put it down until you are done. But by the time you are done reading it you will likely say that is it. Where is the rest of it. These stories are great but most of the time it leaves the reader wanting to read more about it even though it is the ending. These stories are way to short but they always gurantee you a happy and charming ending.
