The Battered Women's Directory is an excellent source for information on the historical, political and economic background of violence against women. Although it seems written initially as a directory of services for battered women, the 100 pages of text it includes makes it a feminist classic on the movement against violence towards women. In fact, much of the directory for services is now out of date. Still, the political analysis is as trenchant as ever. The text includes a wide selection of articles from various perspectives. For instance, articles written by medical professionals give us the view of the battered woman from an emergency room perspective. Other articles, by batterers and by the men who counsel them, give deep insight into some of the emotional forces triggering this behavior. Best of all, are the articles written by the book's author whose concise style and well-expounded arguments bring a clear understanding to this usually disputatious subject. A classic of feminist scholarship - well worth reading!

Kay Evans has really done her homework with this book. New comers and long time residents will find this an invaluable resource guide. This book covers alot of ground and it's great to have a personal reference when looking for services.

Hidden in issue ten of volume 15 of this RBOC Update is possibly the most gripping 500 word essay documenting the tireless work of Bellsouth, relentless missionaries of The Real Yellow Pages.

There can be only one Real Yellow Pages according to Thomas Gale. This slyly dry tale of banishing the pagan "Talking Phone Book" from the greater Louisville area literally had me in tears; frightful, horrible tears. Of Joy. To see the word of the Real Yellow Pages reach each and every corner of that godforsaken land.

I particularly like this book because not only do they tell you about the cost of each school and the median GPA and LSAT score but also they ask the students what they like or don't like about each school. For example, they will tell you whether or not a law school is "high schoolish" or how cutthroat the place is. They also give the average age of the students.

This book covers bike paths and routes in several cities in Arizona (14 routes), Southern California (6 routes), Northern California (26 routes), Nevada (2 routes) and Utah (8 routes). There are no maps of the routes but the author does a pretty good job of describing them. The descriptions are pretty detailed including such things as places to park, restroom locations, places to eat, level of difficulty, and condition of pavement.

This book seems to be written with the casual cyclist in mind. If you're looking for a route where you can "hammer" out 40 miles at a fast pace then this book is not for you. If you're looking for a place to enjoy a leisurely weekend ride with friends or children, then this book was designed with you in mind, For example, in their level of difficulty ranking the authors consider a 3-mile route with rolling hills to be "challenging."

The only negative comment I have about the book was that it was written about 5 years ago so some of these routes may have changed over the years. For most of the routes, the author does provide a phone number to call to get more information about the route. If you're traveling to a new area and plan to ride one of these routes you may want to call ahead of time to make sure the route or bike path still exists or has not changed.

"Fodor's 99 Worldwide Cruises and Ports of Call" is an outstanding guide.

Yes, we're given honest and pertinent advice on all the top cruise lines and their ports of call. And yes, the presentation of that information is very well-organized.

But what makes this guide such an exemplary one is the wealth of "cruise-primer" details. Everything from cabin graphics and library information (most ships have 500 to 1,500 volumes, including the latest best-sellers) to CruiseLoan offers and seasickness fears are addressed here.

Even routine issues are presented with welcomed specificity. The guide, for instance, doesn't just inform us that movies are shown aboard ships. It explains how many are generally shown, their times, screening facilities, and that "R" rated films may be edited for sex or violence (which may or may not float well with you.)

Another fine feature is the immensely-helpful two-page listing of cruise-only agencies near the front of the book.

This guide is a must-purchase for anyone planning a cruise.

Well-written and helpful guide for camping, especially tent camping, in Utah.
The author has done a fantastic job of highlighting the different tent camping options in Utah and has included his personal preferences of both campgrounds and the individual sites within each campground.
If you are new to tent camping in Utah, I highly recommend this book. If you are a more seasoned camper, I still recommend this book because he has obviously put his heart and soul into visiting all the campsites in Utah which is something that most of us simply do not have the time to do.
Included are helpful maps, contact information and additional sources for further information.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to go camping in Utah!
