Dr. Ashby also makes the reader cognizant of the Female Principle or Divine Feminine which precepts go well beyond Egypt. Precepts much needed in the patriarchal run societies of today.

ALL FOR JESUS-The Easy Ways of Divine Love. Fr. Frederick William Faber. Every catechism student should remember learning that God made us to know, to love and to serve Him. Because we cannot serve Him without first loving Him, and we cannot love Him without first knowing Him, Fr. Faber develops several extremely powerful motives for our loving God, and then offers a number of very creative ways in which we can best serve God out of love, rather than just out of duty. Fr. Faber says "Nothing is easy, which we are not happy about while we are doing." He then shows how to make the service of God easy by doing all for love of God. "I want to beguile you into serving Jesus out of love," says Fr. Faber, "for everything comes easy to love." One of this famous convert/priest's greatest books written precisely to help us save our souls by doing ALL for God out of love for God - which is by far the easiest way of salvation! Comprehensive inspirational insights! 308pp. PB. Imprimatur.

As all of Lockyear's "All of the....in the Bible" this book is an easy-to-read and valuable resource. Great for personal devotions focusing on the Names and Attributes of God, topical study, or sermon preparation. Highly recommended.

I am a fan of the late Dr. Herbert Lockyer's books. All the Divine Names and Titles in the Bible happens to be the one I most refer to when studying or preparing a talk. He has done the intial, exhaustive research of listing all the names of the Trinty and giving scriptural references for each as well as a giving commentary on them. Though, I tend to stay away from commentaries, I find Lockyer's to be very straightforward with scripture and exceptionally praise-worthy.

How in the world could such a book be out of print? Does it reflect the mentality of Christians today, that they are more focused on themselves than on God? The publisher probably wouldn't take this book out of print unless people just weren't buying it. Well, people need to read this book. It is a hidden classic, part of a series Herbert Lockyer produced on the Bible. The names and titles (and attributes) of God are the very foundation and purpose of the revelation of the Bible. This book is comprehensive and an excellent resource for critical Bible study concerning the Person of God. Such a book would help restore the theocentric and Christocentric thinking and living that is so absolutely critical for correct Bible interpretation and Biblical obedience.

When read aloud, this book really breathes life into an otherwise boring class. My teacher assigned passages to read for homework, and I actually enjoyed reading them.
Its modern and not written in bland textbook language. You can look forward to the class that requires this book.

I was very impressed with the speediness if my purchase. It arrived exactly as they promised. Even though the book was indicated as "Used", it appeared as "Brand New". I will definitely use Amazon again for future textbook purchases. I saved a lot more money going this route than buying the books through my college bookstore.

Kathie FitzPatrick's book, Angel Promises, is a journey into the odyssey of losing someone precious in one's life and then, through the process of this experience, attempting to find a purpose that goes well beyond the loss and the pain. The book is the story about Karen, her daughter who died in the Thirtymile Fire in July 2001. It is a story told through Karen's poetry, writings and experiences. But Angel Promises is also a dialog by a parent, and rightly so, as it describes a mother who, while celebrating her daughter's life, at the same time, is sharing her own suffering, questions, and her experience in finding answers through her faith. The book is a dialog rooted in the nature of faith and that age old question, why do these terrible things happen? Through the compilation of this experience, Kathie has modelled in tangible terms, through the publication of these thoughts and memoirs, a method by which others on this journey can rediscover those lost as well as themselves in a way that reaffirms the assurance that God still cares. Angel Promises would make an excellent background reading for courses dealing with the teleology of human suffering or the challenge of personal loss.

Firefighters throughout the world joined together to grieve over the loss of four young wildland firefighters. It was on a hot dry July 10th day in 2001 when 18 year old Karen FitzPatrick of Yakima was trapped with three young comrades and died. The whole nation was in shock.
Safety issues sprang forth from the tragic fire that will be heatedly discussed for infinity.
"Angel Promises" is a well written memoir about a lovely young woman who was denied adulthood by circumstances. For lovers of poetry, this book is a must read. Verse is incuded by both Karen and her mother Katherin (the author). The reader will obtain an understanding of the physical events that were never reported by the media relative to this fire in Northern Washington state, but far more important is the way the emotions leading up to and afterwards, are portrayed by beautiful verse. I highly recommend "Angel Promises." Of all the "tags" or key words available, I think "Inspirational" would far outshine any other possible tag. (9-2-07) The circumstances behind this tragedy are going to be more and more in the National news. Get a head start on a major issue; read "Angel Promises"

The great Zen master D.T. Suzuki once said: "For you Westerners, it is Swedenborg who is your Buddhe. It is he who should be read and followed!" Suzuki translated four of Swedenborg's books (including "Divine Love and Wisdom") into Japanese, but if you want an English version, this is without doubt the finest available translation of Swedenborg's metaphysical masterpiece. Before beginning his English rendering, Mr. Rogers prepared a critical edition of the Latin text - an imperative task if the translation is to be completely faithful to the original, but a task that has been and continues to be ignored by the Swedenborg Foundation, the major publisher of Swedenborg's theological writings, which is now focusing more on pretty covers than on reliable translations. If you are new to Swedenborg, and you want to start with one of his most profound and important works, read "Divine Love and Wisdom" in this wonderful new translation. It will certainly give you an incentive to read Mr. Rogers' translation of Swedenborg's "Marriage Love," and his forthcoming translation of "Divine Providence."

This work, from the Divinely inspired pen of Emanuel Swedenborg, lays out the spiritual and natural foundations of the created universe. The book details how our Creator brought humans into existence from his Divine Love for us and how he governs that creation. It answers philosphical and practical questions about the works of God. This new translation, by the Rev. N.B. Rogers, allows the Divine message to come through clearly in modern English. Learn how the spiritual and natural worlds co-exist and corespond.

The very premise of the book is a bit awkward, considering that all deities (who are the ONE) of ancient Egypgt are "androgynous", to use the word of a more modern concept provided in the book. As such, the Goddess may be depicted with an erection here and there, for example. Clearly, the author hasn't REALLY solved the paradox of genders not existing, yet saying everyone (and everything) comprises both. Actually, to write a book specifically on the female part of ancient Egyptian religion is indulging in the belief of the construct of genders, qualifying it as a work of separation, which very literally means "sexism". Thus, this book(let) is defeating its cause. Yet, the spirit of the book had the opposite in mind. (I would like to mention, though that some of Muata Ashby's books are rather sexist, such as Egyptian Yoga Vol. 1:: The Philosophy of Enlightenment.)
It is a bit difficult to rate this book in context of my rating of his other works. This one IS repetitive, unsurprisingly, but not as intense as usual. I do not agree 100% with the author, yet, he is much more balanced than in other (later!?) books. He is actually lobbying for a balance in the indulging of such things as entertainment, work, fun, emotions etc. and advises to "avoid extreme people". He even includes a sex-POSITIVE quote of ancient Egypt, for once, by Ra as the creator: "...and I have made the joys of love (love-making) to exist." Usually its about sublimating/avoiding sexuality only.
The book features a parable of Hetheru and Djehuti and the Story of Ra and Aset. The author interprets them (and the usual Asar-Aset-Heru-Set/Osiris-Isis-Horus-Seth story in the abridged version) and explains the many Goddesses facets of the one Goddess (who in turn is part of the One Supreme Being). At the end, a practical meditation/prayer is provided. I give this book 4.5 stars. If you want to look up the first volume: African Religion Vol. 1, Anunian Theology and the Philosophy of Ra.
