Local to National Celebrities Interviewed

This is a great book for anyone who is a fan, but also a real treat for people living in the metro-Detroit area, as a few of the celebrities asked are local TV and radio stars. She wrote to a lot of people over the years and has a great collection of stars' heroes, from Soupy Sales to Les Paul and of course Davy Jones! It's neat to find out who inspired the celebrities to be who they are today.

What a great concept for a book!

Mary Guerra is an authority on fandom as she is a member of a fanclub or two herself. I know this since she belongs to the fanclub I run for Davy Jones, Davy Devotees. Though the concept of fandom is normally perceived as being something the nonfamous possess, Mary spent years contacting various celebrities asking them just who they consider themselves a fan of and what fanclubs they would join if they could! She received personal responses from legends in the field of entertainment like RoseMarie and Phyllis Diller to Les Paul, inventor of the electric guitar, Richard Petty, of racing fame, columnist, Liz Smith and "Mr. Hockey" Gordie Howe. Shirley Jones, Peter Noone and Mary's personal favorite, Davy Jones of The Monkees, are just a few of the many other highlighted celebrities. If you've been a fan of anyone at anytime, this book gives you an interesting look at who those we admire actually admire. At times the featured celebrities provide laughs and at other times intriguing revelations. Overall this is a fun read with a lot of heart!

This book is fabulous. My husband and I found it to be a quick, entertaining read. We particularly enjoyed the entry from Mike Clark, our favorite radio DJ. It's interesting to see what people celebrities find heroic, and it conveys more of an inside look into their personality as well.

This book is excellent reading and is well-balanced! I highly recommend it to anyone who has an interest in end-time events from a scholarly point of view. There is no sensationalism here, just the facts, presented by one who has certainly done his homework, has taught the subject for many years at a respected Bible college in the Detroit area, and presents the various views on prophecy with dignity and respect. Further, the author has a pastor's heart (for he is one) and is able to take a calm look at the sign of the times and instruct us as to how we should then live.

Last days of which Covenant?
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 10 total.

I have read this book, and find that the most important question was not asked by the author.. that question in whether the 'last days' of the New Testament were the last day of the New Covenant, or the Old? Numerous passages make it plain that the Old Covenant was coming to an end (Heb. 8:13), to be replaced with the everlasting New Covenant. The Preterist view (use a search engine) properly addresses this question, and shows why the passing of the Old Covenant was the creation of a New Heavens and earth (Heb 12:25-29).

Thoughtful book on a complex subject

Albert Einstein once said that everything should be made as simple as possible, but no simpler. The problem with many popular works on the end times is that they try to oversimplify this complex subject. Mr. Lewis avoids this trap: this is not an easy subject and he has not written an easy book. Taking a thoughtful look at what the whole of Scripture says, he challenges many common assumptions and offers a perspective that many readers may be seeing for the first time. Refreshingly, he is willing to leave open the issues about which Scripture is unclear.

There are those who will not like this volume. Those who want prophecy condensed into a well-defined, neat little package, or who merely want support for the positions they already hold, or who are looking for the Christian equivalent of the horoscope column will be disappointed. The author doesn't claim to have all the answers, but he does have thoughtful and challenging answers to at least these three questions. I strongly recommend it.

Passion and Power

Acting, the passion of Daniel Day-Lewis, in this comprehensive biography. Of an actress mother, poet father, and producer grandfather. The intensity of preparing for and performing his roles -- participating in a wilderness school and fire-arms course for "The Last of the Mohicans," to the extent of the difficulty of withdrawing from them when the picture or play is completed: halucinating his deceased father in the live production of Hamlet, his saying, "I don't know how not to be Hawkeye." Whether or not one is a particular fan, a good book for the film-buff's library.

Comprehensive yet lacks the spirit of the person

Garry Jenkins has written a thorough book on the life of a man who is, arguably, one of the greatest thespian talents in modern times; however, it is obviously without input from its subject, Daniel Day-Lewis. This book does give interesting detail of the romance of Day-Lewis' parents, (his father was Poet Laureate Cecil Day Lewis; his mother, a member of the Balcon family theater dynasty), as well as the story of the actor's odd aristocratic upbringing. The rest is merely information that a fan could have gleaned from various media resources, especially entertainment magazines. In Jenkins' defense, Daniel Day-Lewis, just turned forty, is very much a developing subject. The author, currently writing a sequel, is fortunate in that respect
