Lots of detail to the behind the screen stories. Many Classic picture's and hard to find shot's of Barbra. A must have for any Barbra Fan!!!0806519541514162000-02-25Barbra Fans Unite!Calling all Barbra Joan Streisand fans! Now is the time to support the would be publication of a comprehensive resource guide to Barbra's extraordinary film career. If Citadel is unable to publish such a nifty volume, then we should let other publishers know that such a book would be of significant interest. I hope that it won't be long until Ms. Swenson and Mr. Nickens find a home for their work (and on a more personal note, I hope that the somewhat overlooked "On A Clear Day You Can See Forever" (1970) and the sadly neglected "Up The Sandbox" (1972) receive the glowing credit these two glorious films deserve.) I encourage other Streisand partisans to compose "reviews" of the book they'd most like to add to their library shelves.THE FILMS OF BARBRA STREISAND features over 150 stunning color and black & white photographs--many published for the first time--as well as complete cast and credit listings, and a sampling of reviews. The volume also boasts exclusive, illuminating comments from dozens of Streisand's co-workers and friends. Authors Christopher Nickens and Karen Swenson have included a forty-page biographical overview that traces Barbra Streisand's remarkable journey from "dreary obscurity in Flatbush to heights of fame, acclaim and fortune no one would have dared predict." Her legendary triumphs as a concerts and recording artists, Broadway star and television personality are well documented, as are highlights from her personal life--including her marriages to Elliott Gould and James Brolin.1573921602My Life With Barbra: A Love StoryB000JBXXXGStreisand: Live In Concert (2 CD's)1432700995BARBRA STREISAND IN NEW YORK CITY: A Self Guided Tour of Landmark Locations in The Career of Barbra StreisandB000N2HDLYInside The Actors Studio: Barbra StreisandB000AYEL1AA Star Is Born2328Actors & Actresses2327Arts & Literature2Biographies & Memoirs1000Subjects283155Books2340Pop2331Composers & Musicians2327Arts & Literature2Biographies & Memoirs1000Subjects283155Books4493General4484Movies86Entertainment1000Subjects283155Books4495History & Criticism4484Movies86Entertainment1000Subjects283155Books4510General4507Music86Entertainment1000Subjects283155Books521000Performing Arts1474Dance271614011Reference2154Theater1Arts & Photography1000Subjects283155Books725798General11773Foreign Languages21Reference1000Subjects283155Books491552Film & Television684277011Performing Arts468206Humanities465600New & Used Textbooks251254011Custom Stores44258011Specialty Stores283155Books712992011General AAS684277011Performing Arts468206Humanities465600New & Used Textbooks251254011Custom Stores44258011Specialty Stores283155Books712982011General AAS465600New & Used Textbooks251254011Custom Stores44258011Specialty Stores283155Books713014011General AAS319654011Qualifying Textbooks251254011Custom Stores44258011Specialty Stores283155Books400272011Paperback394184011Mass Market401237011Trade394174011Binding (binding)388186011Refinements283155Books618083011Printed Books618072011Format (feature_browse-bin)388186011Refinements283155Books2FZAAAT7S5ZU6Timeless- Essential Barbra Streisand0786417978http://www.amazon.com/Films-Randolph-Scott-Robert-Nott/dp/0786417978%3FSubscriptionId%3D05ERXYTS89KFGEPQR5G2%26tag%3Dthebookrevi0b-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3D07864179781413031http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51VW98XEF6L._SL75_.jpg7552http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51VW98XEF6L._SL160_.jpg160112http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51VW98XEF6L.jpg500349Robert NottHardcoverMax Evans791.430280929780786417971790786417978EnglishEnglishEnglish10164500USD$45.00McFarland & Company1235Book2004-10McFarland & CompanyMcFarland & CompanyThe Films of Randolph Scott1417095856USD$58.561000005.04107864179785002008-08-15RandyNice book, with a lot of photos I had never seen before. The explanations on the films are quite detailed and extended, the biography is also quite complete. However, I was expecting a larger book, as I have many Citadel books from the 80's and 90's related to "The films of..." (i.e. Cary Grant, Robert Taylor, Humphrey Bogart, etc) and they were heavier, with more pages and higher quality photos.07864179785992006-11-04Heros of the Old WestThis is an exceptional and definitive reference work dealing with the West's greatest cowboy. Any fan of Western films or `Oaters' as they are affectionately called here will eventually be treated to a picture featuring a character played by Randolph Scott. This book presents a comprehensive look at his career and includes excellent quotes and much commentary on his filmography. It provides a balanced examination of his work and indicates that some film reviewers occasionally criticized Mr. Scott, indicating his acting range was "limited." While this may be a valid criticism, a more comprehensive analysis of his work clearly shows that when given a tightly written script, focused direction, and the help of good ensemble supporting characters, Randolph Scott always turned in a performance that was guaranteed to entertain. This was particularly true as Mr. Scott grew older; gradually perfecting the non-verbal communication skills (the set of his jaw and steely-eyed glare) which made him the `silent man of action' archetype which set this genre apart and made him so uniquely and classically an American hero. Excellent reading for the cowboy in all of us.07864179784992006-03-19Randolph Scott was a great Western film actorThis book is a thoughtful look at Randolph Scott's films. The author offers many personal comments, as well as comments from people involved with the films. Evans interviewed people who worked with Randolph Scott and provides many interesting insights.

The bulk of Scott's film oeuvre was the Western and the author brings out the qualities that made Scott such an icon. Scott had
a certain Southern gentleman quality that imbued his roles with a dignity that many other Western actors lacked.

There are some good photographs in the book and there are cast listing for each film. 0786417978514162004-12-20"The Films of Randolph Scott" by Robert Nott"The Films of Randolph Scott" by Robert Nott. Excellent study on the life and films of Randolph Scott, that must be given prestige for the fans of this unforgettable actor/cowboy and who likes western movies as well. Other publications on Randy Scott that I recommend are the excellent " Last of The Cowboys Heroes" of the same author" as well as "Randolph Scott, a Film Biography" by J.B Crow and "Whatever Happened to Randolph Scott" by Chistopher Scott.

Mario Peixoto ALvesReclusive American actor Randolph Scott, known for his subtle, dignified performances in almost 60 westerns, has been called the "most genuine Westerner." His career began in 1928 with the first of several bit parts; his first starring role was 1932’s Heritage of the Desert. He fought in World War I, studying horsemanship, shooting, and bayoneting, and acted in a variety of films in every genre from musical to swashbuckler. His final film was Ride the High Country (1962).
Chronologically arranged from his birth in 1898 to his death in 1987, this book covers every film in which Randolph Scott acted. Each section begins with a biographical chapter and then lists Scott’s films from that period: each film’s entry has filmographic information, a synopsis, and detailed commentary, discussing such topics as the financial aspects, production details, acting, other participants, anecdotes, and critical responses. Quotes from interviews with figures in the industry and published reviews bolster the entries. A bibliographical essay completes the work, which is heavily illustrated with stills and promotional materials.094401917XRandolph Scott: A Film BiographyB000HT38I0The Man Behind the Gun / Thunder Over the Plains / Riding ShotgunB000HT389OColt .45 / Tall Man Riding / Fort WorthB0014BQR1AFox Western Classics (Rawhide / The Gunfighter / Garden of Evil)B0018RU45UErrol Flynn Westerns Collection (Montana / Rocky Mountain / San Antonio / Virginia City)21Reference11444Almanacs & Yearbooks11448Atlases & Maps385096011Audiobooks11461Business Skills2572Careers11626Catalogs & Directories11472Consumer Guides11475Dictionaries & Thesauruses11628Education11713Encyclopedias11761Etiquette11773Foreign Languages11871Fun Facts11880Genealogy408268General2576Job Hunting300955Large Print10975Law11891Publishing & Books11902Quotations301751Spanish-Language Reference1099190Study Guides11904Test Prep Central11970Words & Language12015Writing1000Subjects283155Books2375General2Biographies & Memoirs1000Subjects283155Books4487Biographies2328Actors & Actresses2345Directors4484Movies86Entertainment1000Subjects283155Books4493General4484Movies86Entertainment1000Subjects283155Books4498Reference4484Movies86Entertainment1000Subjects283155Books194810011Genre Films4484Movies86Entertainment1000Subjects283155Books394181011Hardcover394174011Binding (binding)388186011Refinements283155Books618083011Printed Books618072011Format (feature_browse-bin)388186011Refinements283155Books1K34ZS50NUVZERiding the High Country with Randolph Scott0801064813http://www.amazon.com/Finding-God-Movies-Films-Faith/dp/0801064813%3FSubscriptionId%3D05ERXYTS89KFGEPQR5G2%26tag%3Dthebookrevi0b-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3D0801064813235021http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/412Q9QZ460L._SL75_.jpg7548http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/412Q9QZ460L._SL160_.jpg160103http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/412Q9QZ460L.jpg500323Catherine M. I had a hard time coming up with questions for the small group and this book has great questions right inside. Eventually more people started showing up and everyone has amazing insights! I couldn't have asked for more!08010648135122007-08-26Good bookThe book really helped me with me class that I used it for. Even though we weren't required to read it.0801064813528292004-11-02A book for finding God's grace in the secular worldCatherine Barsotti and Robert Johnston --- husband and wife --- give thoughtful Christians a book full of tools to help them view select movies (33 in all; the oldest released in 1982) through a theological or philosophical lens.

FINDING GOD IN THE MOVIES starts with an informative introduction that discusses the film genre and theological approaches to film. What makes a good film? "Head, gut, and heart. The best movies will engage the whole person." How does a viewer find God in the movies? "Unpack the story.... What is more primary in the way the story is shaped? (1) Is it the plot...? (2) Is it the characters...? (3) Is it the point of view, where a story is given value by the perspective of the narrator(s)...? Or (4) is it the atmosphere...?...Concentrate your critical attention on where the filmmakers have centered their attention. By doing this, you will prove a more receptive viewer of the story and perhaps the Story."

Each of the 33 movie-chapters starts with a two- or three-page "synopsis and theological reflection" --- a review. This is followed by "dialogue texts" (relevant biblical passages), "discussion questions," "clip conversations" (more discussion questions but about specific scenes), and several pages of "bonus material," which includes interesting behind-the-scenes information about the making and makers of the film. Movies also are clearly linked to two helpful appendices: one listing (Genesis to Revelation) relevant biblical references; one listing (A to Z) topics covered in or themes of the movies (for example, Abuse; Affirming the Human Spirit; Anger; Arguing with God; Balance in Life).

The movie-chapters are presented in 13 categories, the more blatantly religious ("Living Our Faith"; "Images of the Savior"; "Renewing the Church") placed toward the end of the book. You might want to start your exploration in these later categories or simply bounce around. The second of the 13 categories, "Beauty, Imagination, and Creativity," discusses two Pacific Rim movies, Spirited Away and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, that celebrate imagination and creativity but may be hard for the neophyte to discuss theologically.

This is a book for Christians who have an understanding of common grace, "the wider work of God's Spirit throughout and within all creatures and creation," and for those who are open to dialogue with the secular world. What are some of the films discussed? Life Is Beautiful. Ulee's Gold. The Hurricane. Simon Birch. Chocolat. We Were Soldiers.

By using this guide you might get the hang of facilitating a movie-discussion group and then move on to films you wish the authors had included. We'd all have our own list. Mine? The Trip to Bountiful. Cinema Paradiso. Babette's Feast. The Quarrel. Smoke. Maybe I should check out Johnston's earlier book REEL SPIRITUALITY: Theology and Film in Dialogue (Baker, 2000).

--- Reviewed by Evelyn Bence0801064813515162004-07-23Help me open my eyes wide! Can we find God in the movies? Yes! In this outstanding cultural book, Johnston leads us to find God in the popculture. He mentions the movie as a story teller in which people communicate their values and worldviews. He, also, teaches us what the christian movies are and how christians can watch the films; the christian movies are what deal with the real human stories and what show the reality afresh. And, when we watch the movies, we, as chrsitians, have to see the christian values such as humanity, friendship, forgiveness, reconciliation, etc. In addition to these strengths, the most wonderful character of this book is the excellent complete film study guide. I enthusiastically recommend this book for all people who are interested in popculture and its application to their real lives. You love movies. Who Doesn't? In Finding God in the Movies Catherine Barsotti and Robert Johnston show you how to combine your love of movies with your desire for God. Introducing thirty-three films of faith--ranging from Tender Mercies to X-Men--the authors identify and explore key biblical themes like forgiveness, faith, and repentance. An enthusiastic guide for the individual movie lover or small group, this resource contains production notes and film synopses, relevant Scripture texts, theological reflection, recommended video clips, discussion questions, and more. It will deepen your fervor for film and for God.0801031877Reel Spirituality: Theology and Film in Dialogue (Engaging Culture)0829422013Movies That Matter: Reading Film Through the Lens of Faith0801027853Useless Beauty: Ecclesiastes through the Lens of Contemporary Film0664229506Faith and Film: A Guidebook for Leaders0802827950Catching Light: Looking For God In The Movies4493General4484Movies86Entertainment1000Subjects283155Books4494Guides & Reviews4484Movies86Entertainment1000Subjects283155Books12341General12333Christian Living12290Christianity22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books12504General22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books491438Christianity468234Religious Studies468206Humanities465600New & Used Textbooks251254011Custom Stores44258011Specialty Stores283155Books712994011General AAS468234Religious Studies468206Humanities465600New & Used Textbooks251254011Custom Stores44258011Specialty Stores283155Books491552Film & Television684277011Performing Arts468206Humanities465600New & Used Textbooks251254011Custom Stores44258011Specialty Stores283155Books712992011General AAS684277011Performing Arts468206Humanities465600New & Used Textbooks251254011Custom Stores44258011Specialty Stores283155Books712982011General AAS465600New & Used Textbooks251254011Custom Stores44258011Specialty Stores283155Books713014011General AAS319654011Qualifying Textbooks251254011Custom Stores44258011Specialty Stores283155Books400272011Paperback394184011Mass Market401237011Trade394174011Binding (binding)388186011Refinements283155Books618083011Printed Books618072011Format (feature_browse-bin)388186011Refinements283155BooksRJCYQ2X8B7QOIThe Church WorksRCJEKT7FVENE8Faith and Film Critics' Circle - Members writingR2H6GGPBA16K9RHollywood Christians - Evangelicals & Entertainment Industry3GALVIAH1Y4YHSpirituality & Film0595331939http://www.amazon.com/First-Gentleman-Kristina-Bachman/dp/0595331939%3FSubscriptionId%3D05ERXYTS89KFGEPQR5G2%26tag%3Dthebookrevi0b-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3D05953319392476885http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51Z6r9vp3RL._SL75_.jpg7550http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51Z6r9vp3RL._SL160_.jpg160107http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51Z6r9vp3RL.jpg500333Kristina BachmanPaperback8139780595331932800595331939EnglishEnglishEnglish8901895USD$18.95iUniverse, Inc.1300Book2004-11-10iUniverse, Inc.2004-11-10iUniverse, Inc.The First Gentleman956001193USD$11.9358USD$0.581580011ATVPDKIKX0DERhttp://www.amazon.com/gp/help/seller/home.html?seller=ATVPDKIKX0DERNewnew9aQStQf7mRuvxjtTytxFhVyDapOIYDObNoDejxI3A5r7q98olexUZmclRlV%2F2E%2F9iGyPq6gI5Bo02q3lobcNbuZtctYeWGXt1895USD$18.95Usually ships in 24 hours5.04105953319395002008-03-04First GentlemanWhen is Ms Bachman going to write a sequel? The characters are well-drawn, the plot timely and intriguing, the conclusion, despite knowing the outcome from the beginning, exciting. You will be left wondering when the sequel will be released, and perhaps, who will be starring in the movie version!Dr. Milton Stafford had nothing but love and support for his wife --charismatic, outspoken, talk show host Meredith Nicholson-- when she announces her intentions of running for President of the United States. It was a fasinating look at the Bond movies, and the faces behind them. I had no idea that the budgets of the movies were so low.(as compared to other action films) This book took me in,and I would recommend it to any fan of film, especially James Bond films!15748836905552006-02-01Definitely a must-have for any Bond fanJohn Glen directed the five 007 films which basically span the entire decade of the 1980s: For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy, A View to a Kill, The Living Daylights, and License to Kill. He was also involved with previous 007 films such as Moonraker, The Spy Who Loved Me, and numerous other British films going back to the 60s. This book is a collection of behind the scenes stories from the making of Glen's films, but with special emphasis on the Bond films. Most Bond fans know the plot details inside and out, so what makes this book interesting is the story and script development, shooting location stories, and cast and crew details. The only downside to the book is I wish there was MORE of everything...more stories, more photos, etc. This is a highly entertaining book if you are a 007 fan, particularly from the Roger Moore - Timothy Dalton era.15748836905572005-10-09Bond Only BondThis is a valuable book for the inside track on the Bond films. Director John Glen did a good job. His services will be greatly missed unless they get him back. After reading this book perhaps the producers should get John Glen back. 1574883690510132001-11-14A Must Have for All James Bond FansDirector John Glen tells of his experience with the James Bond film series strait up. At the helm of five of the films as director Glen pulls no punches and offers great insight into the creative efforts of the whole Bond film team. This is a great book and even more so if you are a James Bond fan. I really like this book. There is really no gloss here. This is really about what went into making these films while Albert R. Broccoli was still alive and producing them. I highly recommend this book.0953192636The Battle for Bond: The Genesis of Cinema's Greatest Hero1845115155Licence to Thrill: A Cultural History of the James Bond Films (Cinema and Society)0810954885The Art of Bond: From Storyboard to Screen: The Creative Process Behind the James Bond Phenomenon0752264990Bond on Set: 007 Filming Die Another Day0471661953The Science of James Bond: From Bullets to Bowler Hats to Boat Jumps, the Real Technology Behind 007's Fabulous Films2345Movie Directors2327Arts & Literature2Biographies & Memoirs1000Subjects283155Books4491Direction & Production4484Movies86Entertainment1000Subjects283155Books4493General4484Movies86Entertainment1000Subjects283155Books4495History & Criticism4484Movies86Entertainment1000Subjects283155Books400272011Paperback394184011Mass Market401237011Trade394174011Binding (binding)388186011Refinements283155Books618083011Printed Books618072011Format (feature_browse-bin)388186011Refinements283155BooksR9T2FD45GWDGJames Bond 2, the movies33M7NCFSCQET0Books about Bond, James Bond1O3S2R4XO3JNJBooks About James Bond2AA1TJHS6V0IEThe Best James Bond Movie Books1887714073http://www.amazon.com/Forest-Love-Story-Blank-Verse/dp/1887714073%3FSubscriptionId%3D05ERXYTS89KFGEPQR5G2%26tag%3Dthebookrevi0b-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3D1887714073622733http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51SYVKN3CCL._SL75_.jpg7548http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51SYVKN3CCL._SL160_.jpg160102http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51SYVKN3CCL.jpg475303Jack PalanceHardcover811.549781887714075631887714073EnglishEnglishEnglish8502200USD$22.00Summerhouse Press187Book1996-10Summerhouse PressSummerhouse PressThe Forest of Love: A Love Story in Blank Verse66575494USD$4.941USD$0.012200USD$22.001022110005.04118877140735451999-11-19extremly thought provoking,Mr. Palance has allowed me to seeI had the pleasure of hearing Mr. Palance read a portion of the book on the Roseanne Show just a few minutes ago. His reading allowed me to see his thoughts something I have only experienced previously in the reading and writing by Rod McKuen.18877140735111999-03-29It made me realize I had never known a real love like he hadI bought this book after I saw Mr. Palance on the Regis & Kathie Lee program. I have read it and reread it so many times I think I have memorized it. The writing is absolutely beautiful and the emotions it elicits are exquisite. It is my hope that Mr. Palance will write again and again. It is so refreshing to read and experience the emotions he bares for the reader. Thank you, Mr. Palance. I wish he would have a web site so that we could personally write to him about his book and other endeavors. I think he is one of our treasures.18877140735111998-02-24Touching Beautiful poetryI received this book from my very special friend for my birthday. I had heard an interview with Mr. Palance and just knew I would love the poetry. It touches a part of my heart in a special way. Bravo Mr. Palance...please give us more.18877140735231997-12-31It Made Me CryThe text was written beautifully, with so much emotion. It was given to me as a xmas gift from my husband of 20 years. I enjoyed it and the meaning, words just flowing so tenderly.Palance takes us on an intimate and emotional ride through a love affair -- the love of a woman and the love of nature -- brilliantly intertwining his artwork and text in a journey filled with exhilaration, passion, ecstasy, disappointment, remorse, and ultimately, rebirth. A writer and artist for all of his life, this is Palance's first published book. With over 20,000 copies in print since its initial publication in November, 1996, Jack Palance has received widespread acclaim for The Forest of Love. With numerous appearances on such programs as Regis & Kathy Lee, Conan O'Brien, and Charlie Rose, Palance has established himself as a fresh voice of male sensuality. His parents were creative-Carmen was a musician in the
Detroit Symphony and later in the New York Philharmonic under the baton of Arturo Toscanini. Carmen would later win a musical
Oscar for the Godfather films.
Francis was a younger son to his older brother who was everything Francis wasn't: handsome and well liked at school.
His sister Talia Shire would later be a movie star in his own
films most notably the Godfather classics.
Coppola graduated from Hofstra and received a master's degree
in film from the UCLA film school. His early apprenticship in
film was under the tutelage of famed B director Roger Corman.
Coppolla emerged from nudie films and small pictures to direct
"Finigan's Rainbow" and began to emerge as a talented maverick
whose creative/artistic wings were flying in the early 1970s.
Despite arduous business and creative troubles he won fame and fortune and several Oscars for the Godfather films. His most
controversial film was "Apocalypse Now" his take on the Vietnam
conflict based on Joseph Conrad's novella "The Heart of Darkness."
Coppola's career has more ups and downs than a roller coaster
as he founded Zoetrope Films in San Francisco and went to the
mat in countless donybrook battles with studio executives.
Coppola reminds me of Orson Welles in that he achieved fame early and then had a difficult career in tinsel town. He is a
man of massive ego; intelligence; daring and creative attention
to the details/minutia of film. He was unfaithful to his wife
Ellie; grieved over a son yet emerges from this biography as a
flawed but good man. He is gregarious and honest and a good
friend. His friendship assisted George Lucas in launching his
storied career! I like Coppola's rich textured films. His screenwriting from Patton to his latest project is outstanding.
This meticulous account of Coppola's career in the Hollywood jungle will not appeal to everyone. Countless pages are devoted to business deals, legal disputes and the difficulties encountered by Coppola in making his films.
For me who loves the Godfather and FFC this is a fine book.
Anyone who seeks to explore this brilliant man's career would do
well to begin with Schumacher's fine biograpy.06098067775162000-04-08Apocalypse WhenI thought this biography was detailed mostly around this film. On page 262, first paragraph, I think Mr. Coppola would agree to mention the fact that "The Chief Phillips" made a life last attempt to end Willard after getting speared on the boat by Kurtz's mongrules. Overall, the book was a manificant biography of a Itailian-American film maker of our time.06098067775132000-02-05A TOTAL mystery......and I hope he stays that way. Francis Ford Coppola is one of the inspirations of my life. His energy and enthusiasm for what he does outshines even the projects many might deride. One thing you have to say is at LEAST he puts his all into what he does, and I'd imagine no one would doubt this. PS: WHEN is the UNCUT version of "One From the Heart" going to be issued on DVD?06098067775881999-12-16Schumacher got it rightI work for Francis Coppola today and know him pretty well. Michael Schumacher's book really captures the spirit and energy of this facinating and complex man. I have read most of the other Coppola books and none combines an understanding for both the human and artistic side of Francis.
This book, like no other I have read, reflects the passion, energy and chaos of the Coppola world. I can tell you from the inside there is no more exciting experience than being part of the Coppola energy. Francis loves to tackle the "impossible" and never gives up. I particularly like this book because it is clear that the author, like myself, has great respect for this whirlwind of a man.Francis Ford Coppola: A Filmmaker’s Life is the first complete picture of the internationally renowned and controversial cinematic genius who directed such films as the Godfather trilogy, Apocalypse Now, The Conversation, and dozens more -- some wildly successful, some utterly disastrous. He is Hollywood’s perennial outsider, admired and respected for his courage and individualism, but still criticized for being a gambler in a business where success is measured by box-office receipts.

Michael Schumacher tells the entire history of this masterful filmmaker. Coppola reveals for the first time:
* The whole story of his early years, including his “skin flick,” his slasher movie, and his years with Roger Corman.
* The reason behind the most controversial casting decision of his career: putting his daughter, Sofia, in The
Godfather, Part III.
* The impact of the loss of his son, Gio, on his work and his life.

With unprecedented access to Coppola’s friends, critics, peers, casts, and crews, Schumacher creates an irresistible read, showing all the aspects of one of the most complex, conflicted filmmakers of our time. The terrible fact about Francis Ford Coppola's career is that it will always be divided evenly in half, down a line called Apocalypse Now. Before that film is prodigious promise--an Academy Award for writing Patton, two uncannily fine Godfather movies, and the Antonioni-esque smallness of The Conversation. After, there is telescoping debt, talk of reinventing the studios, and multiple, hollow exercises in style. If that's a tough assessment, it's one borne out by this thick, fair biography. The author, Michael Schumacher, who has previously published books on Allen Ginsberg and Eric Clapton, makes much of Coppola's boyhood spell of polio, from which he emerged miraculously healthy and movie-mad. He orchestrated his life thereafter with a consequent mania, as though making up for lost time. While still in film school, he sold screenplays and made Z-budget drive-in movies for Roger Corman. In two years, he wrote 12 scripts for 7 Arts, and in the mid-1960s started a family, made You're a Big Boy Now and Finian's Rainbow, pushed George Lucas to write THX1138, founded American Zoetrope, and took a job, purely for the money, directing The Godfather. The chapters on Apocalypse Now are the book's highlights, and without saying as much they explain the spent quality at the core of Coppola's films in the next two decades. After hurricanes in Manila, Marlon Brando, and the ungodly beauty of those helicopters at dawn, whose career wouldn't wing straight to twilight? --Lyall Bush1560251948Francis Ford Coppola: Close Up: The Making of His Movies (Close-Up Series)1578066662Francis Ford Coppola: Interviews (Conversations With Filmmakers Series)B000XECFXSHearts of Darkness - A Filmmaker's Apocalypse0743287770The Godfather Legacy: The Untold Story of the Making of the Classic Godfather Trilogy Featuring Never-Before-Published Production Stills1579127398The Annotated Godfather: The Complete Screenplay2344Entertainers2327Arts & Literature2Biographies & Memoirs1000Subjects283155Books2345Movie Directors2327Arts & Literature2Biographies & Memoirs1000Subjects283155Books2375General2Biographies & Memoirs1000Subjects283155Books4491Direction & Production4484Movies86Entertainment1000Subjects283155Books4493General4484Movies86Entertainment1000Subjects283155Books400272011Paperback394184011Mass Market401237011Trade394174011Binding (binding)388186011Refinements283155Books618083011Printed Books618072011Format (feature_browse-bin)388186011Refinements283155Books1882127137http://www.amazon.com/Frankenstein-Meets-Universal-Filmscript-Filmscripts/dp/1882127137%3FSubscriptionId%3D05ERXYTS89KFGEPQR5G2%26tag%3Dthebookrevi0b-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3D18821271371067595http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51D7E0SWJML._SL75_.jpg7557http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51D7E0SWJML._SL160_.jpg160122http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51D7E0SWJML.jpg475363PaperbackPhilip J. The pictures, the behind-the-scenes stories and the script are all wonderful. Goes into details about each of the cast members and has tons of pictures, many of them i've never seen before! Included at the end is a "press book" originally given out at the theaters when the film was first released. Learn the fascinating facts behind the "lost" scenes in which the Frankenstein monster was supposed to SPEAK! Screenwriter Curt Siodmak was a true legend and his contribution to the Wolf Man and Universal's legacy is un-matched. Did you know Curt wrote the famous poem for the Wolf Man "...even a man who is pure at heart and says his prayers by night, may become a wolf when the Wolf Bane blooms, and the Autumn moon is bright". Anyone who loves classic horror will love this book. Filled with fascinating facts, photos and much more...a real treat!18821271375442004-11-05The Monster speaks again..... at last!!!FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLF MAN is best remembered today not only because it is the first of its genre (the crossover, still utilized today with films such as Alien Vs. Predator and Freddy Vs. Jason), but also because of a peculiar and maddening bit of editing: As originally shot, the Frankenstein Monster (as played by Bela Lugosi) was to be portrayed here as a weak, blind creature speaking eloquent dialogue (in Ygor's voice), the result of a clever plot twist from the previous feature, THE GHOST OF FRANKENSTEIN.

Within this book is the true reason why Lugosi's lines were deleted, as well as some interesting behind-the-scenes information, extremely rare stills (particularly of the deleted scenes), cast bios, the pressbook, and Curt Siodmak's original shooting script, which includes the Monster's long-sought dialogue in its entirety!

A source of lasting enjoyment for all Classic Universal Monster fans, especially those seeking a "completed" version of FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLF MAN. Highly recommended!
18821271374222002-01-24Finally an explanation!!It's fantastic that we finally here the dialog of the monster that was cut out of the picture. Bela Lugosi played the monster in the film. Why was it cut out? The explanation makes no sense since Bela voiced the monster in the final scenes of the previous film. It worked then so why not with this film? The hacking of this script ruined this film. It would have been a much better movie if they left the dialog in. It explains so much.
This a great book for those who are fans of the movie and the Universal monsters. In fact, it's a must!18821271375442001-08-04Magicimage Filmbooks presents:Frankenstein Meets the WolfmanAnother in the great series of Universal Filmscripts. The pictures alone are worth the price of the book. The background also tells about Lugosi's dialogue being cut out and what some of it was. It also explains the ending and the escape of Massey, Knowles, and Ouspenskaya (which is not shown in the film). It is a shame that production of these filmscripts didn't cover ALL of the Universal Horror Movies because of the detailed background of each.188212717XHouse of Frankenstein (Universal Filmscript Series, Vol. 6) (Universal Filmscripts Series: Classic Horror Films)1882127358The Mummy's Curse: Including the Original Shooting Script (Universal Filmscripts Series: Classic Horror Films)0786429747Universal Horrors: The Studio's Classic Films, 1931-19460345486854Monsters: A Celebration of the Classics from Universal Studios1882127102Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (Universal Filmscripts Series Classic Comedies, Vol 1) (Universal Filmscripts Series Classic Comedies, Vol 1)4495History & Criticism4484Movies86Entertainment1000Subjects283155Books4499Screenplays4484Movies86Entertainment1000Subjects283155Books194810011Genre Films4484Movies86Entertainment1000Subjects283155Books4497Movie Tie-Ins10134Genre Fiction17Literature & Fiction1000Subjects283155Books8680Riley, Philip J.70039( R )70021Authors, A-Z17Literature & Fiction1000Subjects283155Books521000Performing Arts1474Dance271614011Reference2154Theater1Arts & Photography1000Subjects283155Books725798General11773Foreign Languages21Reference1000Subjects283155Books491552Film & Television684277011Performing Arts468206Humanities465600New & Used Textbooks251254011Custom Stores44258011Specialty Stores283155Books712992011General AAS684277011Performing Arts468206Humanities465600New & Used Textbooks251254011Custom Stores44258011Specialty Stores283155Books712982011General AAS465600New & Used Textbooks251254011Custom Stores44258011Specialty Stores283155Books713014011General AAS319654011Qualifying Textbooks251254011Custom Stores44258011Specialty Stores283155Books400272011Paperback394184011Mass Market401237011Trade394174011Binding (binding)388186011Refinements283155Books618083011Printed Books618072011Format (feature_browse-bin)388186011Refinements283155BooksIQULHO5XVIVOThe Monsters are Coming1JT5KD6WYQSXG"It's Alive!" But I remember when I read Full House books. The good ole Club Stephanie. It's cute and funny how every summer they always end up with the Flamingoes, and the same routine. The Flamingoes play tricks on them, they fight over the guys, etc. This book is great and really gives you the feeling of young summer love.06138727034452000-10-24Watch out Golding! While not as explosive as "Friend or Flamingo," this first novel in the Club Stephanie series explores social incongruities in post-Cold War San Francisico. Wrapped around a bare bones Steinbeck-like narrative detailing the struggles of setting up a summer camp for neighborhood children, the book moves at such a blistering pace that it's easy to miss Quin-Harkin and Taaffe's subtle nuances. Indeed, their scope of intertextual references ranging from Chaucer to Pete Townshend fix the battle between the two groups on a wider social level, foreshadowing the LA riots and Atlanta Olympics.
The influence of William Golding is not lost on the authors either. Indeed, her paradise is all too easily corrupted. Stephanie emerges in the novel as a flawed heroine, whose victories depend upon her ability to arrive at universal truths. All the while, she remains engaging and entertaining to the reader.
While my love of the series leads me to award a 5 star rating to this book, my mixed feelings on the dualistic ending put it at 4 stars. The ending definitely raises more questions than it answers, leaving many a reader, myself included, feeling somewhat unsatisfied.06138727035021999-05-22A great book from beggining to endThis book is really exciting and is good for people at 9 upwards but if you were looking for something serious and fun this is the right book for you.It contains alot of laughter and shocking things but it is still a really good book.06138727035021998-07-14Overall it was a great book, I want to read the next one.I LOVE CLUB STEPHANIE! The only thing that makes me give this book 4 stars rather than 5 is that ghost pirates come out from the grave, I think that was stupid. Other than that I loved the book! I also own it.03453304555112002-10-27Adventurous and thrilling and like the TV program!I love "Garfield's Halloween Adventure". I read it around Halloween every year. I've read the book more than I saw the TV program. Garfield and Odie do the town going trick-or-treating and are thrilled with every moment getting candy left and right. Then, things aren't so thrilling as they wind up in a real-life very scary and frightening ghost story and experience pirate-ghosts up-close. Young and old readers who love comics will be thrilled about this! HAPPY HALLOWEEN.03453304555012002-07-14THE MOVIE IS EVEN BETTERA childhood Favorite.. I love the part of "candy candy candy candy......" lol.. Good funny not the usual ha ha.. but ho ho..lol Later.. Should be with all Halloween favorites like "The Great Pumpkin".03453304555011999-03-07This book was very good.I really liked this book. It was funny and it was very exiting at the end. It is one of the best Garfield books.Garfield's Halloween Adventure

Halloween is Garfield's favorite holiday -- you dress up ina costume and next thing you know it's candy, candy, candy!
