There are other books on the subject that capture a child's interest better. Passable, but nothing to rush and buy.

Little Critter and the New Generation

Just Go To Bed was one of the first Little Critter books that I bought for our son. He was in so many ways our own "little critter". The character and our son felt the same way about going to bed and the frustrations and joys of growing up. Later we added a baby girl to the family and our own little critter also had a baby sister. Almost three decades later our little critter has his own son (who has a baby sister). All of the roles have shifted. Three generations in this family enjoy and appreciate "Little Critter" and his out-look on life.

The best bedtime book ever!

My husband reads this to my kids ages 3 and 2 every night. My three year old has it memorized and reads it back to daddy too. Right after, they always go to bed!! It's the greatest book. They walk around the house pretending to be "little critter" telling everyone to put on their pajamas and "GO TO BED!"

Read so much we wore it out!

My 3 year old daughter adores this book! We have literally worn out the cover. I am needing to buy another copy to keep this favorite alive. My daughter can recite the entire book and will look at the pictures even after we are done reading it before she falls asleep. It encourages the imagination and instills the message that everyone needs sleep. A must have!

Excellent series of books.

checked this out from the library, but had to purchase it! first of all, i knew NOTHING about gardening, so this gave me a starting point and help with the basics. i am slowly learning ... and have started my first vegetable garden! while there are very FEW pictures, the info itself was valuable to me. i have a book that is chock-full of pics, but the text is designed for a more advanced gardener. i love to look at that (other) book, but i needed something very basic to begin with- and this is it! good price for all the info you get. a must for those just starting out from scratch! good luck & have fun with your hands in the dirt!

It Can Change the Way You Feel About Nurses Forever

Most wonderful books change you in some way,and this beautifully written book is no exception. I couldn't stop reading all the wonderful stories. They taught me how to be a better patient, a better human being, and a better caretaker of my soul and body. Richly written with heartwrenching stories about the ups and downs of nursing, this book made want to run out and buy it for all my friends. Not because it was about nursing, but rather more than that---it was a book about living and dying--and the men and women nurses who act as midwives to these experiences. This book is both informative and literary, and one I would heartily recommend to all my friends.

Excellent!

I'd read and loved "Between the Heartbeats" and wondered if this second anthology of nurses' writing could be as wonderful----and it is! In this collection, the editors have gathered all new work from nurses in the US and abroad (some of the original "Heartbeats" writers are represented here too). The poetry and prose are stunning. This book is a must read for any nurse, physician, patient, caregiver, poet or writer; it's also a perfect teaching text for medical and nursing humanities. If you're stuck for a gift for your favorite nurse, buy this book!

This book makes it possible for teachers of writing to sit beside Judy Davis and Sharon Hill as they teach in their classrooms in the Manhattan New School. As the title suggests, this book is full of practical strategies for teaching students to write well. But the book is much more ambitious than that. It gives us a window into how these two incredible writing teachers think about children and curriculum in a writing workshop. For all of that, readers of this book will be thankful each time they return to the pages of the book to learn more and more.

Teacher of the Year is compelling, intriguing story, that starts and ends with excitement and drama. It shows you how God can work through people to direct your path. This books re-affirms that fact that you can overcome anything through Christ and that you should never give up. I was truly inspired by this book. I suggest this book for all teachers, women, christians and teenage girls.

Tests and examinations are the primary method used to challenge one's knowledge of a subject-ask any student. Those who are determined to be successful not only understand this essential fact but gather the tools necessary to develop such skills.
This book is one such tool and worth the investment. It is an excellect resource specifically applied to the nursing student, for developing critical thinking and analysis of test questions; preparation and practice for test taking. The nursing student who absorts and applies the lessons learned in this text will most certainly be successful.

This book breaks down each system and enables you to focus on specific diseases. The questions are a bit more difficult than typical NCLEX books but they provide excellent rationals. It was extremely helpful during my Med-Surg classes. It enabled me to get a better overall understanding of the different diseases/systems and my grades definately reflected that!

This book is great. I like how it is breaken down into sections. What I liked about it is that it's a great reviewer before taking any tests at school. I noticed that some questions were used by some instructors were from this book. Gives you rationales. Always buy a Nclex book or this one with rationales. You learn a lot from them. I give this book an A+, 100% and a positive evaluation!!! 2 Thumbs up!!!

This fine piece of work was produced by the Congressional Research Service, part of the U.S. government. Anyone who wants a copy of it can get it FREE by calling or writing your representative or senator. There's no need to buy it. This is just a reproduction of a public domain document by some private company.

What Next, From the Maddening Modern Michelangelo?
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2003-12-20
Chris Davis, iron-handed political ward boss, nihilist philosopher, dot.com visionary and inventor, Peace Corps Volunteer, former CIA station chief, seminal figure in the Washington DC punk / straight edge music scene that spawned the Slickee Boys and Henry Rollins, union organizer, Sandanista mouthpiece, newspaperman and Las Vegas Casino Pit Boss, suprises even those who have followed his storied career with a scholarly work on the history of the U.S. House. It is, in turn, exciting, sad, whimisical, shocking, and exactly the type of masterpiece you would expect from this bigger than life cult figure. The only criticism is because of who he is, sometimes Davis himself cuts a larger figure than the Congress he is writing about. When reading his dispassionate treatment of the 1995 GOP takeover, a reader can't help but wonder if Davis thinks we don't know he himself was largely (if accidentally) responsible for the change. Still, it is well worth the $60 and leaves me asking, what next from this Maddening Modern Michelangelo??

Finally a book for baseball lovers and congress enthusiasts

While seeking respite from a exciting yet arduous baseball post-season I decided to turn to my second favorite past-time: Congressional history. Much to my delight I came across this elegantly titled monograph. After reading the first page, Evelyn Wood herself could not have read this work of literature quickly enough. The authors introduce the reader to the mysterious inner-workings of the House of Representatives. I was especially fascinated with the authors' ability to use baseball metaphors to make complex materials more understandable to the layperson. I never realized how many characteristics some former House Speakers and George Steinbrenner share. Scheider possesses remarkable intuition and while describing institutional turmoil seems to predict the recent demise of the New York Yankee organization which has now extended into the off-season.

This book is a rare find and I want to thank Nova Publishing for their tireless work at printing and binding literature that can only otherwise be obtained for free by contacting your Senator or Representative. The exquisite binding absent in the free version looks much better on your bookshelf.

Great(er than) Expectations

Absolutely the greatest book I've ever read. War and Peace, Great Expectations, Moby Dick - these tales merely lay the foundation for perhaps the greatest collection of words set upon parchment, "Reorganization of the House of Representatives; Background and History." Action, suspense, drama, romance (yes, romance), this literary gem provides it all. Mr. Davis' maiden attempt is not only insightful, it is absolutely riveting. The author presents a unique style that captivates the reader from page one to page six hundred and forty-three. It is, in a word, brilliant.

Gagewyn is a moron
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2005-01-25
This is a thouroughly researched book that digs into the history of the Jacksonville area with a heavy emphasis on the historic architecture of such architects including Henry Klutho, Louis Sullivan and the many other architects reared under the Chicago and Prairie schools of design. It is quite popular among locals, and should provide some interest for those familiar with the city whether a resident or visitor. Having said that, I would like to respond to gagewyn's comments in his review regarding Jacksonville. Jacksonville, in fact, has 5 public museums, not the 2 he references. And the city of Jacksonville is 700,000, not 1 million. That is not to say Jacksonville is a cultural mecca, but we have our strenghts. And while I would agree that some buildings have been destroyed that were worth saving for their historical significance, I would challenge gagewyn to identify any city older than 50 years that hasn't lost buildings to the inevitble march of progress. Savannah, Charleston and Atlant are 3 southern cities all who have had significant buildings torn down to accommodate the needs of the present. Finally, a bit of a grammatical correction for gagewyn, who stated, "Jacksonville was burned down in...". That is totally incorrect and a significant error when talking about southern cities (as so many were burned to the ground during the Civil War. Jacksonville burned as a result of an accidental fire at a mattress factory that began a chain reaction throughout the mostly wooden structures. gagewyn's take regarding multi-story building development also shows a lack of architectural understanding (or perhaps intelligence) as it is quite expensive to build highrise or any multi story building in Florida as the sub-surface material is usually one of 3 materials: sand, clay, or water. Just as New York is built on solid rock, it is necessary to create a suitable foundation when building on soft material. So buildings in Florida are often 2-3 stories vs 10-20.

Perhaps gagewyn should go back to rating books about robot love (see his other reviewed books), and leave history to those who rely on fact.

Finding the emerald in S___ville

A bit of background: Jacksonville was burned to the ground in 1901 in a city wide fire. It was already a large developed city at the time, and so there was a market for large buildings immediately after the fire up through the present. The city is not big on culture (more than a million residents and only two public museums) or any kind of preservation. When a building changes hands it is as likely to be demolished as renovated. Still if you know where to look it is possible to find representative buildings from each decade of the 1900's. Locals will be floored to learn that 128 buildings constructed before the 1901 fire remain.

This book provides a short write-up of each building deemed historically important. There is a black and white picture of the building. The address, date of construction, architects and builders are listed for each. Two to four buildings per page makes this cramped or action packed depending on your perspective.

Jacksonville is not big on preservation and it shows: This book was originally compiled in 1976 to commemorate the US bicentennial. Entries for buildings that have been demolished since then have not been removed, but have instead been marked through with a large red demolished label. Let's just say there is a lot of red.

This is a book with a very specific audience. Libraries in Florida and especially Jacksonville should have a copy of this or an older edition (and many do). This is an invaluable resource to any one doing a thesis in the Jacksonville/north Florida area.

If you are into architectural history and in the area, then visiting some of the buildings in this book could be interesting. Be careful though. Many of these historic neighborhoods are run down crack towns. If you are driving through a neighborhood and notice many stray dogs, plush armchairs in the front yard, and every building you pass could use a paint job and a new roof then that would be a tip off. Be cautious in "Historic Springfield". The city is trying to gentrify this slum area full of period wood frame houses. Every third house is being nicely restored. The rest are falling down and have no roofs.

PS, added August 12, 2005, not to be all Orwellian and change the actual review or anything: In hopes that willself will read this, although I stoop to respond at all. I just want to point out that Jacksonville's population was around 750,000 in 1990 and now in mid-2005 is approximately 1 million. (see www.cityrating.com/citystats.asp?city=Jacksonville&state=FL) The city has grown in 15 years - not a big surprise, as we are not located in the Dakotas. The two public museums I refer to are MOSH and The Museum of Contemporary Art. Private museums come and go, but props to The Cummer on being a fabulous and permanent (or I will cry) art museum. If public school students are going to a field trip to a museum, those are their three options. And please take note, willself as you flame me, that I am definitly not a "he" as my about page has always clarified. Also you might want to shake things up and review a book for a change and not a reviewer.
