Jeff Daniels Books

My husband is 4 weeks post knee replacement surgery, and this book has been our Bible. I wish we had bought it sooner, but it has been very helpful. It tells what to expect and how to rehab! His physiotherapist and doctor have both approved!

This book is a must for all people considering a knee replacement. Especially important to get the book early enough that you can do all the pre-operative exercises to help you manage your post op better. Most surgeons just do not give you the whole picture of what the first year of your life will be like after the operation. To have a great outcome, you really need to know that your re-hab will continue long past what most insurance companies provide. This gives you the information to have the best possible outcome of your surgery. Thanks to the pysical therapist who had both his knees done, you see a very knowledgeable "insider" view of the total process. Get this book before your surgery!

I simply say "ditto" to what most of the other reviewers have stated. This is a real gem of a book. It wasn't until after my LTKR this past summer that I learned of the book. Once I received the book it has been at my side constantly. I'm now 5.5 months post and use the exercises in the book everyday. My faves: Pool Therapy, Futebol and the Balance Exercises. My OS was not familiar with the book so I sent him one as a "thank you" for my wonderful, new knee! It should be handed out to every TKR patient as part of their pre-op packet.

My left knee has been failing rapidly. . I have heard the good, bad and ugly about TKA. Thus I have purchased several books in the last few years. I will be so well prepared for my surgery (4 weeks away). This book has allowed me a be a TEAM player, and not just a patient. I already own a Total Gym, that is one piece of equipment suggested.
I know I will heal much faster due to the exercises I am doing now, and later after surgery. Technology in this field is advancing by leaps and bounds. Some of the info and details are almost outdated, but still covers all the bases. This book helped me have super communication with my surgeon and his staff. Hats off to Dr. Daniel J. Brugioni and Jeff Falkel, Ph.D. - Orthopedic Surgeons should write a pre-surgery prescription for this book!

I bought this for my mom who recently had her complete knee replacement surgery. When the physical therapist started coming over after the surgery, she looked over the book and started incorporating many of the exercises within in addition to the regular program she was doing. These have helped speed up her recovery and have allowed for the routine to change from session to session. By swapping exercises out, she maintains a varied yet beneficial recovery program. Although I got this after the surgery, the book also contains a lot of information for those who are considering having it done, including what to expect, how it's done, and other sections that help you plan ahead. Due to advances in knee replacement, the section on the surgery itself may be a little bit dated and does not include some of the newer procedures and materials used. All in all, an excellent and very complete book and one that anyone about the have knee replacement should definitely purchase and read

Daniel has a quiet life. He dind't have eny friends except
his mom,brother and dad.He and his family are good at art their are going to have a fair.Did Daniel do a good duck for the fair wish people like it?
I like this book because Daniel did a beutiful and funny duck.
I recomend this book for all the people who like art because is fun.

Henry Pettigrew was the best wood-carver in Tennessee. Everybody loved the animals he carved. One day Daniel said he wanted to carve animals too, all he needed was a good knife and a good piece of wood. His brother Jeff laughed. His father bought him the knife and gave him a block of wood, because sometimes it's important for a father to believe in his son.

Every year people made things for the fair. Jeff made a box, Mom made a quilt, Dad made moccasins and Daniel said he was going to carve something. He made a duck looking backwards. At the fair, people laughed at his work. He was ashamed, took the duck and ran, but someone followed him, said he loved the duck, told Daniel the people were not laughing at the duck because it was bad, but because it made them laugh and that was a good thing. He offered to buy the duck, but Daniel gave it to him instead. Can you guess who the man was?

Sophie Cacique Gaul

This book has a lot going for it - not only is it written by Clyde Robert Bulla, a prolific and talented writer whose books are slowly (and sadly) going out of print, it is also "An I Can Read Book", which is my favorite series of readers for young children.

While the setting of this book is well over 110 years ago, the emotions portrayed in this book will be accessible to every child. Daniel is the youngest child in his family, and wants to make something for the spring fair. Despite some well-intentioned "wait until you're older" discouragement from his family, he carves a duck and is quite proud of it. He brings it to the fair, and then sees people laughing at it. Embarrassed and angry, he grabs his duck and runs to the river to throw it in, but is stopped by the best wood-carver in Tennessee. Their conversation is simple and effective, without being sacharine or artificial.

My kids have picked up this book more than once to read on their own.

This is a great book to use when you help enhance your students' prediction skills. You could have the students guess what they think will happen next as you orally read the story. You could also have the students write their own ending and then read the book's ending to see if they guessed right or if they like their own ending better! I would use this in grades 1-3.

These are two of the best.I love these movies.They are both movies that make you feel good.I will watch them again and again.Nothing is better than watching a great romantic movie.

Great Price on these two Love Story classics. Jennifer Lopez is superb !!!

I thoroughly enjoyed both movies, I had seen Fools Rush in many years ago, but had never seen Maid in America. I would highly recommend this combo to anyone, both movies are very good in my opinion.

MAID IN MANHATTAN ***

This is a relatively pleasant, though eminently forgettable, once-upon- a-time romantic comedy. Not even its excellent supporting cast can make this tepid movie better than it should be. Ralph Fiennes, with his sometimes British, sometimes American accent, and Jennifer Lopez, with her beauty marred the minute she opens her mouth, are the would be mis-matched lovers.

Fiennes plays Chris Marshall, a wealthy, to the manor born, silver spoon, political candidate. Lopez plays Marissa Ventura, a working class woman and single parent with an adorable, precocious, ten year old son named Ty (Tyler Garcia Posey). Marissa works as a maid in the posh hotel in which Marshall is a guest. When her son accompanies her to work one day, he runs into Chris Marshall and recognizes him. They start up a conversation and before you know it they are going to go off for a walk together, only Ty has to ask his mom. They go to the suite in which she is cleaning, only thing is that she has tried one of the haute couture outfits belonging to a wealthy businesswoman named Caroline who is staying in the suite.

Naturally, Marissa looks gorgeous in this outfit and is wearing it when Ty and Chris enter the suite. Chris is smitten, and all three go for a walk in the park. Chris does not know, and Marissa does not disclose, that she is one of the maids in the hotel. Don't ask. Don't tell.

When Chris, thinking that his dream woman's name is Caroline, forwards an invitation for lunch to her ostensible suite, the real Caroline (Natasha Richardson) responds. Let the games begin! Marissa spends quite a bit if time avoiding running into Chris in her work clothes. When she finally runs into him in the street, Chris instructs his aide to find her and invite her to a glittering soiree. She gets the invitation via the hotel butler (Bob Hoskins), along with some advice, and decides to go for the gold. With her fellow employees at the hotel acting as collective fairy godmothers, she gets the proverbial ball gown, diamonds, makeover, and emerges a princess, making a dramatic entrance at the ball, further entrancing Chris. When she runs off before the ball is over, he pursues her, and what then follows is a night to remember.

Of course, Natasha, who is also at the ball, sees Marissa and Chris together and realizes that she looks familiar. Consumed by the green eyed monster, she contacts the hotel authorities when the morning after the ball she sees Marissa, exiting the suite occupied by Chris and still wearing the diamond necklace she wore at the ball. A review of security tapes leads to her identification of Marissa and a host of other things. Chris is now faced with a choice, as is Marissa.

The film is pretty formulaic in that it is filmed as a fairy tale. Of course it has the proverbial happy ending. The film is saved by the very funny performance of Natasha Richardson and her pre-menopausal, obnoxious friend played with relish and delicious abandon by Amy Sedaris. Stanley Tucci is excellent as Jerry, Chris Marshall's campaign manager. Bob Hoskins is very good as the prim and proper hotel butler, though the film strikes a false note towards the end when he gives Marissa a final speech that is ridiculous. Tyler Garcia Posey is a totally adorable child actor who gives a very natural and engaging performance.

Ralph Fiennes gives a decent performance but has difficulty maintaining an American accent. Jennifer Lopez gives a better performance than she usually does but that is not saying a lot. It is unfortunate that to date she has been unable to replicate the level of performance that she gave in "Selena", the film that propelled her into stardom. She is, however, totally drop dead gorgeous when she is all gussied up, looking every inch the princess.

Still, if one's expectations are not too high, one should find this to be a mildly entertaining, romantic comedy. Rent it rather than buy it.


FOOLS RUSH IN ****

This is a delightful romantic comedy. Matthew Perry is a charming, self-effacing leading man. Salma Hayek is a most fetching and winsome leading lady. Strong performances by the supporting cast help make this a most enjoyable movie.

Alex Whitman (Matthew Perry) lives in New York and has a high powered job as a field agent for a builder that specializes in the construction of night clubs. He is sent to Las Vegas to supervise new construction. While there, he meets a fiery, latin beaty, Isabel Fuentes (Salma Hayek), with whom he has a very memorable one night stand. This is totally out of character for both of them. In fact, she is so embarrassed by what happened, that she sneaks out of his house first thing in the morning. Before he even knows it, she is gone, never to be heard from again, until she shows up on his door step three months later to announce that she is pregnant with his baby.

Alex tells her that he supports her right to choose. Isabel chooses to have the baby. She asks nothing from him other than he meet her family, so that it is not such a shock when she announces that she is pregnant. He agrees to do so. He meets her traditional, Mexican-American family and is taken by their warmth, a quality that is sorely lacking in his family. He rarely sees his own family, except for the obligatory holidays, while Isabel meets hers once a week for dinner.

Alex and Isabel fall in love and have a quickie marriage ceremony performed in Las Vegas. Naturally, as they are now husband and wife. they move in together. Then reality sets in. They contend with cultural difference, with pain in the you know what in-laws, and with the every day adjustments necessary, when living with someone one does not, as yet, know. Then, the trust that had developed is violated, and they each go their own separate ways.

What happens with the baby? Does the marriage survive? Watch the movie and find out. The experience will be an enjoyable one.

These are two of the best.I love these movies.They are both movies that make you feel good.I will watch them again and again.Nothing is better than watching a great romantic movie.

Very True Depiction of the ever growing injustice that is taking place everday in Minority Communities around the county while everyone just sits around idly not doing anything to change it. I highly recommend this movie to anyone, but especially blacks and hispanics, so that you can see how easily it could be you or someone that you love going through a similar situation. This movie makes you wanna get up and start a march or just want to do more to change the unfair practices used against Blacks and other minorities in the "so-called" name of JUSTICE. We need to all come together to make a change. This is how moved the movie made me. By the way, mandatory maximums and minimums should be abolished! Well, I hope you check out the movie which has an awesome cast of actors to highlight a heavy issue.

This is a great movie that everyone should see. Not just blacks, but latinoes, Asians, and even whites to open eyes to a truth that goes overlooked. This movie basically tells of the "new slavery" for minorities, the prison and so-called "Justice System." There's no justice. This movie is a must see, and needs to air on BET and other public airways, in order to get the message out.

This is an excellent movie. One that shows us how to rally the people and give us the strength to stand up to the power structure of this nation and fight for justice, if we truly want to. A great movie. I was quite inspired.

If you feel disenfranchised as a citizen and voter in America, this book may provide the answers you're looking for. Indeed, the consolidation of power in Washington, economic uncertainty, social erosion, and the 2000 presidential election debacle prove the need for election reform, more democracy and voter participation in self-government. It's time for us to re-examine ourselves. And it's time for real democracy.

I recommend this as the best beginner's astrology book.

This is definitely not a run-of-the-mill calculus book like most students study in college. It is very unique, in that it patternizes concepts and makes you think. In other words, it is not a "cookbook" type of approach to calculus, where you plug numbers into a formula to arrive at your answer. This approach, using patternization (i.e., finding patterns in mathematics and physics through words, symbols, numbers, pictures, etc.), makes concepts more concrete. It makes mathematics and physics more understandable and less abstract. It also aids in the learning process. When you can patternize something, it is easier to remember and recall the concepts and ideas, which can then be translated into formulas and equations, and ultimately into getting better grades in school. Multivariable calculus is very exciting, because it is the mathematical basis for a lot of physics, including electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, astrophysics, and theoretical mechanics. Among other things, this book covers vectors, vector fields, line integrals, and flux integrals, which are used frequently in the physical and engineering sciences. With a strong focus on these concepts, the material is presented in a clear and organized way that makes it understandable and concrete by using patternization. If you really want to understand multivariable calculus and want to recall these concepts years later, then you should get this book for self-study, for your class, or for reference. You won't be disappointed.

I can't imagine a better survey of modern car technology. It's as readable as a magazine article but more substantial. The author easily explains the engineering principles involved in suspension, brakes, steering, and so on, then describes the current state of the art, and finally offers a glimpse into the future (individual electric motors for steering, brakes, AC, even valves). This is a very interesting book.

The history of cars is mostly the history of engines, at least to those in the know. This entertaining chronology of non-racing engine development, organized by era, country (often European) and company, discusses hundreds of engines--most of which are long forgotten, so some skimming is allowed--in terms of bore and stroke, valve and camshaft placement, etc., in a very easy to read style. There are also tales of good engineering which did not prevail, due to, for example, British tax laws based on piston area instead of displacement, or the Twenties' inexplicable clamoring for straight eights over the superior vee configuration.

A lot of history is passed along. Cadillac always built V8s, Buick always OHVs. Hemispherical combustion chambers go back to the Thirties. Most of the engines I was curious about were included: VW Beetle and Golf, Citroen DS 21, 12-valve Accord. It ends by discussing the trends towards multivalve engines and variable valve timing, and is overall a very skillfully written reference book.
