Love Lachapelle, pretty much an insane genius. His work is sexy, provocative, alluring, disturbing, insane, kinky, risqué, all while being too hot to handle... the book is so chock full of fun that a normal person can't look through the entire thing in one sitting without their head exploding. If only one day I can become him... Lachapelle if you are reading this, let me be your apprentice!

Mr La Chapelle does it again with tongue in cheek dark humor. I bought this for a friend who collects wild and bizarre photo books...For me, it's a collector's item but not for the faint of heart or a coffee table book for a young family with children. He is an amazing photographer but more, an amazing imagination along with obvious sexual undertones, skills to stir it it all up and produce a unique statement through photo collage. My friend loved this book.

Wonderfull book!

You will never find a fashion photography album like this. LaChapelle is credited to be the greatest fashion/celebrity portrayer and for sure this book attemps to encore his amusement with fame addiction, pop culture, iconography and some tendency to celebrate sex in a lush, ethereal way. I must confess tho, I was expecting to be more surprised with LaChapelle work than Pierre & Gilles, for instance, I was suddenly hit by the full throttle opposition. LaChapelle is kitch-religious kitch chroma extravaganza blasphemous, and all the same at some point. He is an imagery magician, but he also knows the limit of what he wants to document and that point of no return regards consumerism, the hero identity, the fame, the vanity, the modern idolatry to fame and money. The most important Pop artist. The Andy Warhol of the 00's. I see Warhol sparkling his influence, LaChapelle is a sort of heir of his philosophy and ideology. It's a important book whatever sexual orientation you shall follow.

As we know, there 's a popular film showing in US named' The

Lizzie McGuire Movie'. Unluckly, I'm not in US, so I can't

watch the film.I've watch the preview and I like it very

much. This book is full of imagination, it's a bit similar to the

book' The Princess Dairies'. It's the best book for all the

girls who liked to dream(including me) ------being a famous pop

star, having all the clothes and food you want. I like the

ending best, because it is unexpected. I think that it will be

one of the favourtes of the girls who liked to dream !!!

This book was really great. I would reccomend it for ages 11 or 12 and up because it has a bad word in it and it has the word sexiest in it. So if you know any 11 or 12 or older person get it for them if they are a Lizzie McGuire.

Totally Awsome Book!

The Lizzie McGuire Movie by Susan Estelle Jansen is an awesome story about one girl that is to clumsy to do anything and then she goes on a trip to Rome and finds out otherwise.

Lizzie is just about to graduate from junior high and she messes up real bad! Her brother tape records it and sends it to Good Morning America. Then she goes on a class trip to Rome and she tells her best friend Gordo that they need to find adventures. Then Lizzie bumps into pop superstar Paolo and she does find adventures. He tells her that she looks just like Isabella the girl he sings with. He tells her his story and she agrees to help him. She becomes Isabella for a couple of days dodging her new principal while doing so. Gordo covers for her and gets himself in tuns of trouble. Read this wonderful story and find out what happens with Lizzie and her singing career and Gordo and Isabella.

The characters really jump out at you. Lizzie is so clumsy and she seems to always fall down. The characters were really believable and the story seemed to be real to me. This book is really hard to put down you always want to know what is going to happen to Lizzie and her friends. You have to pay attention very closely so you aren't lost or confused. The plot is so interesting and the ending will blow you away. I really believe any girl who reads this would want this to happen to them.

I loved this book. It is every teenagers dream. This is such an exciting book it really lets you feel like you are leaving the `dream'. I would recommend this book to teenage girls looking for a good read because they would enjoy it and keep it as one of there favorites. The book will be enjoyed by all whom read.So read this book and please with all means `enjoy'!!

i don't know why he is not known for his poetry. it is like that scene in "men at work" where he and his brother shoot the guy with the b.b. gun and then he gets killed for real and they do not know. it is exactly like that. but for real. that is how amazing his work is.

Charlie is a personal friend of mine, and i have been reading his poetry for years. This collection is the best of the best as far as Chas's art is concerned. When one works on a show like full house, one sees many forms of expression (from "youve got it dude" to "Watch the hair!" [my personal favorite!]). Sheen expresses the overall feeling of the modern man. From our disgust with the system (damn the man) to our love of sheenistry. Not many people realized that i not only function as an actor, but as a producer. How does this relate to Los? one might ask. Well, sheen PRODUCES some pretty good poetry. Ok ok. Some of sheen's poems may be seen as obscene, thats what i hear anyway. Well, thats trash. that is like saying c thomas howell is a bad tennis player. its just flat out not true. Sheen steals part of ourselves and gives us a chunk of humanity and sheenathan. And, everything that is sheentastic. i remember when a young man named carlos estevez came to town and tried to break into the business. After a name change and a little flick named Lucas, the buzz was too loud to ignore. i personally think that the artist formerly known as estevez will be known more for his poetry than for his acting. carlos is of a caliber not normally seen in this lifetime. I know that sheen has given us all something to think about. ok, i know what you are thinking. he is a mysoginist. nope. he is a drug addict/alcoholic. nope. first of all, as sheen once said, "nobody ever told me it wasnt ok to have a good time." ill vouch for that. ive known the man for quite a while, and never, i mean never, during that time did anyone tell the man that it was not ok to have a good time. now, time to get down to the nitty gritty. The poetry. it is outstanding. brilliant. fun. did i say outstanding? yeah. i am going to go out on a limb here. are you ready? sheen has produced the greatest book of all time. did i say the greatest book of all time? yes. the greatest book of poetry of all time? nope. the greatest book of all time. Why? well ill answer that. sheen is willing to take on the greatest of topics. i wont spoil anything, but lets just say he runs the gamut from A to F. F stands for a bad word. now im going to introduce a new word. Sheenastia. verb. - to live life with the greatest of detailed theological reasoning known to the human form. NOUN - a bong. There is one movie that i would like to expound upon. please allow. NO CODE OF CONDUCT is a film not like any other. on the surface, it seems to be the story of a man's struggle to solve a crime. yeah, yeah, but thats not the end of it. It is ultimately an allegory of one man's search for truth. It may have been directed by the greatest new directing talent on the planet. bret michaels. alright, enough. back to my experience as it relates to sheen. sheens and my life have intertwined on not only a physical but a spiritual level. And through sheens words, i have found life. life's name is estevez. the extevez tribe started in spain in the year 4000 bc. when the spanish conquered much of south america, the estevez's moved on to find their fortune in the new world. they made it, but little jose esteves, didnt. this created a long line of disillusionment within the sheen's inner circle. it lasted for generations, and was not truly harnessed in art until young carlos sheen, born 2350 years after jose, gave his artistic gifts to the world. now, we experience a new form of sheen. a new form of expression. i believe that this book will outlast us all, and will be the final testament of a species that never fully grasped their capability. Call me oldfashioned, but that is the way i feel. sheen has given us what we may never repay. now i will get to the real purpose of this review. i, as a spiritual being, believe in my deepest darkest regions, that sheen the publishing of this book breaks the forth seal of the apolcolypse. that being said, i also believe that sheen is not human. allow me to qualify. sheen, the father of modern thought, is supernatural. sure martin claims to be his biological father. but i know this is not the case. the conception of one carlos sheen-estevez was one of divinity. this impregnation parallels that of another great book of poetry. in fact, i'm not convinced that sheen did not write that great book, as either one apostles or the Lord himself. How did this happen, it cant be true you say. permit my clarification. it is not widely known, but this book of poetry was originally written by sheen during a year of isolation and meditation in the mountains. sheen during this binge of spirituality, would go into trances where he would write unconsciously. Big deal, you say. well, did i mention that he wrote it in a dead language known as aremaic. Once this book is broken down, translated back into other languages and then back to native american languages, we will get the true translation, we will see THE BOOK OF SHEEN aka a piece of my mind.

Fantastic photography in another large book from Versace. This book captures the 'rock chic' glamourama which the late Versace excelled at creating. The association between 'Rock and Roll', and art is full indulged here creating a empirical illusion to the Versace dynasty. The glossy presentation of the images also adds to an overall feeling of luxury. The only reason I have not given this book the top rating is for its inclusion of Elton John - who makes me sick. So what if its expensive, luxuries like this don't come cheap. ciao,

Gianni Versace, a Fashion Genuis
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2002-06-11
Gianni Versace was a designer who loved to push the envelope. His clothes were a mixture of extremes: sexy, sleazy, colorful, tacky, and elegant. One adjective you'd never find in a sentence with the word Versace is "boring." His clothes commanded--and often got--attention, which is why he was such a favorite among celebrities such as Madonna, Elton John, Liz Hurley, Courtney Love, Prince, Jon Bon Jovi and even Princess Diana. This book is a fabulous, eye-opening collection of vivid photographs of models and rock stars in Versace: from Prince to the members of British boy band Take That. Some outfits are more releaving than others, but they're all unmistakably Versace. Diana herself is also included in the book, along with a few words of praise for the designer. Tragically, Versace was murdered in the summer of 1997, but his spirit and influence live on. This book comes highly recommended. Drop it on your coffeetable, and your guests won't want to put it down.

I was looking forward to reading the updates about former faves but I was more than surprised about the magazines history. Great read and a ton of fun. I sat down and before the first page was turned I was reading it out loud to my girlfriend. Rolled over laughing (or should I say Roller) at parts I just wish I had my sister's record player back so I could bother the neighbors with the sound of my Partridge albums. Great and fun read and perfect for story time with a friend. Strongly suggested it should be your homework to read it.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I ordered this book, so I was surprised and delighted to find that the book not only contained the story of Gloria Stavers and 16 magazine, but also featured reprints of actual pages from the magazine going back to 1950s. I was a reader of 16 magazine during the heyday of the Monkees, Paul Revere and the Raiders, and Bobby Sherman, so it was a real treat to see old articles about my favorites, but it also was fascinating to see how the magazine covered other teen idols over the years, from Ricky Nelson and Frankie Avalon to David Cassidy and John Travolta. Best of all, the authors include new interviews with many of the performers who had been prominently featured in the magazine, so the reader learns what the teen idol experience was like from the other side. And it's always nice to find out what your "fave raves" are up to today. My only complaint is that the book wasn't long enough. I wish that additional space had been available to print more old articles from 16 magazine, rather than just one or two about each featured performer. I understand that a second volume will focus on the late 1970s and the 1980s, but I hope that the authors will consider another volume of treasures from the '60s and '70s. All in all, this book is a wonderful trip down memory lane for all of us who grew up in the golden age of pop music.

If you're a woman (or a man) of a "certain age" you might just GET this book. But, if you don't... If you NEVER envied Gloria Stavers when you were a kid, and you NEVER actually wanted to really get to know not just Herman, but alllll the HERMITS, and not just wanted but NEEDED to know everything about Freddy AND alllllll the Dreamers...this book is definitely NOT FOR YOU. But if you did all those mysterious things, then get out your credit card NOW and get this book, 'cause, girlfriend -- it's CALLING YOUR NAME!

Review Date: 2006-10-27
My only complaint about the book? the price!!! I can remember buying the REAL 16 Magazine for less than a dollar. I, just like millions of pre-teens of the 60s and 70s made sure we spent our hard earned babysitting money on 16 so we could feel close to our "faves."

It was fun reading about the various teen idols and teen idol wannabees from over the years, but I really wished that Randi and Danny had given us more info on the late Gloria Stavers in her book. It's really too bad she doesn't get the proper credit she should get for being rock and roll's FIRST woman journalist. Indeed, I would say that Ms. Stavers was probably one of the most hardworking but underrated persons in her profession, and apparently for years she was referred to derisively as "Mother Superior of the Inferior." How wrong the detractors were!

Gloria was amazing in the sense that she was a trailblazer when it came to celebrity journalism: she did not possess a journalism degree, but yet she had unprecedented access to the big stars of her day. She wielded a considerable amount of influence for a woman of that time. It's said that between she and Dick Clark, they could make or break an aspiring teen idol.

If you ask me, Gloria should be nominated to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for her contribution to rock and roll journalism. It was Gloria with her "40 intimate questions" who set the pace for the way news about celebrities is reported. She made the stars approachable to the average person. Gloria Stavers was far more important in the lives of the nations pre-teenagers than one realizes. Not only was she the one giving us the "scoop" on our favorite stars, she made us feel she really understood what we were going through in our everyday lives...and while she feed us fuel for fantasy, she also was opening doors to places most young girls wouldn't have even considered venturing into, and subtly telling us how to make our dreams to "be somebody" a reality. Granted the pages of 16 were free from controversy, but it didn't mean she wasn't a rebel of sorts. While others talked of feminism and being "new women"...she didn't mention that in her pages. No, apparently she was too busy "walking the walk."

As silly as it sounds now, 16 Magazine was my "salvation" Looking back, I feel the most important lesson 16 Magazine taught me that my feeling are important, my likes aren't silly, my goals are valid and that I shouldn't just settle for a mundane life. It helped me to become the strong and well rounded woman I am today. Far too often the messages adults gave us girls was "you can't" "you shouldn't" or "you'll never make it." Yet, Gloria in her pages, gave girls the message "you can"...whether that "can" met meeting Davey Jones, Rick Springfield(or whomever tripped your trigger) or just deciding to make another dream come true.

Gotta have it!

Superbly packaged. Grouped by decade, teen idols reflect on their experience and have their memories punctuated by reprints of the articles most emblematic of their experiences. So many memories....Credit was also finally given to Gloria Stavers, who sheparded so many of us through pre-teenhood. Totally respectful of the teenboppers who saved their babysitting money so they could buy the magazine or send in for the contests. I'm hoping this is one of a series!

I wish I had this book when I was young. I want to give it to every teenage girl growing up in today's twisted world of skinny, shallow celebrity worship--and to every parent of every teen girl, and to every teen boy who blindly believes what he's told about what makes chicks cool and attractive. It's a rare treat to find a book on this subject that is smart without being preachy, informative without being pedantic, and provocative without being alienating. This is what teen magazines should be. This is what parenting guides should be. This is what we all should have been told as we entered puberty.

Media ia so much a part of our lives that we so rarely even stop to consider the effect it has on something as fundamental as body image.
The situation gets worse when you try to consider just how to speak to the younger generation about such things without invoking pedantics.
But Audrey Brashich gets right to the heart of the matter in this book, by speaking the right language, using all the right examples, and never, ever preaching.
More than an information goldmine, this book is a great guide on how to decipher the media--and to take away from it what's useful and good about it, and leave the rest of it behind.
It's a terrific resource for teachers!

As someone who volunteers with teen girls on a regular basis, and hears them obsess about their bodies, "All Made Up" is a breath of fresh air. My favorite aspect of this book is how it helps girls deal with boys who think that all girls should look like pop stars and models -- my favorite chapter. It reminds young women that they're wonderful just as they are, yet "All Made Up" is not condescending or preachy. It's obvious the author knows what she's talking about; she constantly pulls examples from her days as a teen model, and her experience as a teen magazine editor. I only wish this book existed when I was a teen.

WOW! This easy and entertaining read by former model and girls' activist Audrey Brashich could not have arrived at a better moment. American women and girls are increasingly frothing at the mouth for the mundane details of the lives of Britney, Jen, and "celebutantes" like Paris Hilton. This addictive focus on a handful of Beautiful People is drowning out substance, like "real" news of the world instead of who's choosing an exotic baby name, real achievements by real women, instead of who's in rehab again or was seen on a shopping spree, and real beauty instead of an unattainable combination of Barbielike measurements. Many girls these days "get" that there's a difference between stars'/models' lives and reality. However, media mania is so pervasive that girls are bound to be affected in many subtle ways. ALL MADE UP will help any girl see herself and her world more clearly. Every preteen and teen (female and male) should check this book out now.--Catherine Dee, author of THE GIRLS' GUIDE TO LIFE and THE GIRLS' BOOK OF WISDOM

Hamish Pringle has done a great job. 'Celebrity Sells' is a good read. It's also an invaluable guide to what to do, and what to avoid. He has had the good sense to tap into the first hand knowledge of some authoritative experts. These interviews give real insights into what made Dudley Moore and Prunella Scales (Tesco), Maureen Lipman (BT), Rowan Atkinson (Barclaycard), and the One2One campaigns the huge successes they were. I also found his pitfalls section very illuminating (noting how overexposure can be a particular problem). Pringle draws interesting conclusions from the increasing incidence of celebrities among IPA Effectiveness Award winners. I guess that old adfolk like me have always known that the first target market for any campaign is always the client, and nearly 20 years experience running pitches has proved it beyond doubt. It's intriguing to get the inside track on the special relationship clients (both as companies and people) have with the celebs their agencies have hired. But Pringle gives us ten priceless rules for how the agency can best manage those relationships. The examples given are what makes this book particularly rewarding. Some must have been no-brainers. But who could ever have predicted George Foreman would sell as many grills as Dyson has made vacuum cleaners?

I confess to having a vested interest in Hamish Pringle's writing--I was his co author on the highly successful Brand Spirit: How Cause Related Marketing Builds Brands. He followed that up with a collaboration with someone in consultancy--Brand Manners and now Celebrity Sells. His genial and affable style, accessible to media and communications experts and lay people alike, is built on a firm foundation of careful analysis and case studies. He also captures the zeitgeist--explaining what it is about the 'celebrification' of culture in the early 21st century that strikes a chord with consumers. I can't wait for his next book!

Using celebrities to sell a brand can be immensely powerful, if you get things right - and little short of disastrous, if you get things wrong. Celebrity Sells shows you how to avoid the pitfalls, and sail into the sunny uplands of sales success in clear, readable and pithy prose. No other book, or article, on the subject that I have ever read is remotely comparable in terms of comprehensiveness, authority and know-how.

This book is a really accessible guide to how use celebrities in advertising. It tells you what works and what doesn't, and how to get the best out of celebrity advertising. Backed up by good solid research, with lots of case studies too. A handy guide to an increasingly important area of marketing.

Hamish Pringle has written a thoughtful, crisply-paced book exploring the power of celebrity and how that power can be harnessed in marketing. The book focuses on the U.K. - thus, many of its case studies and celebrities will be unknown to those who haven't spent time in England - but its core message transcends national borders. Even those who have often had to deal with celebrities will still learn ample lessons, while those who have never dipped their toes in the celebrity marketing pool will find this essential reading. It is a textbook for avoiding many pitfalls of star marketing. We recommend this useful, insightful book to marketers and executives who are considering their first foray into the celebrity arena or re-thinking their use of celebrity marketing.

Celebrity Skin is the way I imagine that the life of a teen celebrity can be. I can imagine that this is how the lives of popular celebrities like Lindsay and Britney were when they were teenagers. It's written very well and seems realistic enough that I don't doubt the fact that this could be why many of the celebrites turn out the way they do.

Fans of teenage popstars, actresses and tabloids would love reading this fun and serious book about a girl who never thought she was good enough but turns out to be an A-list superstar.

Imagine you're best friends with someone like Lindsay Lohan, except you knew her before she was famous - and infamous. You get to watch and learn s she goes on her adventure into stardom and all of its triumphs and tragedies. And along the way, you break out of your shy shell. That's what I love about Erin, the main character and narrator of Celebrity Skin. She goes through a lot to be best friends with Taylor, keeping both of them sane. Liane Bonin has created two very real girls here, with a multi-layered friendship. There is so much to love in the book - it is sharp and dramatic, and has a lot of great characters - Taylor's mother is a piece of work! And the star of Taylor's TV show gives you a look at how insane some movie stars can be. I felt like I was with Erin the whole way, and got to be on the set of a TV show and learn about the film and TV business. Erin's family relationships are also very well-written and touching. I can't wait for the next book in the series to see what happens next to Erin (and Taylor, too).

This is a wonderful book that tells the story of best friends Erin and Taylor as Taylor bursts onto the scene in Hollywood on her way to superstardom. Of course Taylor's life wasn't always glitz and fame, and Erin is the loyal best friend who knew her before she was the next big thing. The book gives a great inside peak at the lives of young Hollywood starlets and Erin's along for the ride that becomes her life. The book includes a crazy "stage" mom and of course a glimpse of the party girl attitudes. Erin really is the star of this book though and provides a grounded attitude that doesn't keep the more wild Taylor out of trouble but tries to provide her with sensibilities that one wishes someone would provide to the real stars of today like Hilton, Lohan, Ritchie and Spears. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the second book in the series.

Taylor Christensen is one of the hottest stars in Hollywood. She's young and beautiful, but she wasn't always that way. Her best friend, Erin Kim, has the geeky pictures to prove it. Erin has been with Taylor through middle school bullies and high school girl fights. She was there for Taylor when she was alone on the first day of school and when she got her first big break. Erin, having problems of her own with her headstrong Korean-born parents, needs Taylor just as bad as Taylor needs her.

Taylor's rise to stardom isn't exactly all fun and games and someone needs to be around to keep her sane. From a crazy stage mom who seems to spend every penny Taylor makes to see-through dresses that make front-page news, Erin sticks to Taylor like glue. Taylor's problems may be crazy but it's a lot more fun than what is going on in Erin's house.

Erin stays Taylor's one real friend through everything, but as time goes by that gets harder and harder to do. Taylor starts to self-destruct and Erin watches from the sidelines, scared that speaking up will ruin their friendship. But real friends speak up, right?

This book is full of hot guys, pretty yet deadly girls, and all the drama you can expect from Hollywood. There are characters you'll love and characters you'll love to hate.

This book was awesome and with only nine chapters it's a fast read. I had trouble putting this one down and I have a countdown going for when the next book in the series, Pretty on the Outside: Fame Unlimited, comes out. I highly suggest grabbing a copy of your own!!

I have used Letha Hadady's popular alternative health and beauty books for years. Her new Amazon Short on the life and times of baseball great Jackie Robinson makes good, fast, and easy reading. I especially enjoyed the stories about the important friendships between Robinson and Dodgers' manager Branch Rickey and Jewish ballplayer Hank Greenberg. Truly inspiring. I am giving this Amazon Short as a gift to my friends who are World Series fans and those who need health advice for conquering diabetes. FIVE STARS reading!

It took a health expert to tell me more about Jackie Robinson and Hank Greenberg than all the bios I've read on these memorable athletes. Letha Hadady has provided a real service here by combining history, culture and health care all in one wallop -- and she did so with a firm command of her subjects. I knew about the religious barrier and the color barrier, but not to the extent as provided here in this short but illuminating piece. Jackie Robinson had diabetes? I didn't know. I go back to Montreal with him, even before he got to Brooklyn, when he played for the Montreal Royals, so I've always felt that connection with Robinson and still think he did more to bring the races together than anyone. I was inspired by this story and I'll be returning to this Amazon Short to learn more from Letha's health tips. Altogether, a superb essay. Jack Engelhard

The Greatest Baseball Story Ever Told

When I was a kid my father took me to Brooklyn's Ebbits Field and we sat high up in the bleachers, ate popped corn and yelled for the home team. At age ten I rode my bike half way across the City to the house of Carl Erskine, the Dodgers' star pitcher so that he could sign my baseball. Even now--so many years later--I can still list the lineup of the team that put Brooklyn on the map. I never got to meet Jackie Robinson, a great American hero and shining example for everyone who loves the sport.

This Amazon Short tells Jackie Robinson's awe-inspiring personal story-- his troubled youth and struggles against racial prejudice. As an added bonus, because this biography is written by Letha Hadady a highly respected natural health expert, it describes the best diet and herbs for diabetes, a disease that Jackie had and that many other people suffer from today. Jackie acted with great character and confidence in all that he did. Youth today can learn a lot from his story. Anyone with diabetes will be interested in the sound health advice found here. I strongly recommend buying this Short and I look forward to the upcoming Champion Spirit Series of Amazon Shorts.
