I was captivated by this book. James Spada has compiled several well-known photographs with many photos I had never seen. He does not try to analyse or to delve into the behind the scenes. He presents the photos with a paragraph or two, and lets us glimpse into Jackie Kennedy Onassis's life. I was entranced by the pictures of her youth and the pure beauty and joy in several ungarded moments. A beautiful tribute.

Great Photo Essay

Despite her need for privacy Jackie Kennedy was a major target of photographers when she retreated to private life. This is a great collage of her moments being herself in New York City and elsewhere. Whether she was just walking in Central Park or throughout Manhattan, Jackie's poise never left her. The pictures prove it.

A remarkable and reverent look at a very human icon.

I really adored this book - it is so much more than yet another reprinting of the famous pictures of Jackie. The photos chosen by Spada are remarkable in their ability to portray both the remarkable strength possessed by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, as well as her frailties that we can all relate to. While many people have seen the countless photos that have been published of Mrs. Onassis from her birth to death, Mr. Spada managed to select mostly photos that are little-seen, as well as photos that needed no text to give the reader a better sense of the people portrayed in the book. The text that does accompany the photos is well written and restrained. Purchasing "Jackie: Her Life in Pictures" will be money well spent.

We gave this CD to our daughter for her birthday as she recently has started listening to audiobooks and has enjoyed Arthur for awhile. This has been very nice to listen to in the car, and we were pleased to see that some of the profits go to a good cause. The only glitch is that many of the Arthur stories rely on the talented artistry of Marc Brown to convey the scene. Without the book directly in front of the child, parents really may need to explain what was visually shown by Marc Brown. Ex: In Arthur's Tooth, Arthur loses his first tooth because he is shoved by Francine. This is shown in the book, but never said in the story. My daughter wondered why Arthur was grateful to be pushed roughly. Aside from this, it has been great fun.

This is a fantastic choice for children who love Arthur. The stories are so well read by the celebrities that they really capture my son's attention (he's almost 3), and mine too as I listened to some of my favorite stars (Kelly Ripa). I usually played this in his room when he was having quiet time/nap time. He would be able to play quietly because he was listening to the stories, which are his favorite anyway.

Really Enjoyable

My kids love Arthur and this product is a nice treat! Each of the celebrities brought their own unique personality to the Arthur stories and make the entire Audiobook really enjoyable. It's also nice to see such wonderful celebrities take time out to record stories for charity.

Aside from the feel good factor, this is a really fun product that includes some of my favorite Arthur stories, pictures from his beloved books, the catchy Ziggy Marley theme song and a host of interactive games to keep the kids occupied. Don't be fooled! There's a lot on this little CD!

I highly recommend it.

I'm so glad that Donna has written this book. From the very first chapter my head started jumping with ideas that we could implement immediately for little or no cost. In fact, many of the pratical ideas and suggestions Donna has are all about thinking in new ways about ordinary events - which can then change how we are acting in those moments - which creates the opportunity for WOW!

Donna shows how easy and fun it is to treat each other well; you will be asking yourself, "Why in the heck haven't we been doing this from day one?" Even if your goal is only to create more fun in the workplace, this book will have you waking up in the middle of the night to write down the deluge of ideas that will come.

For example, we have some new job titles, like SURPRISE and DELIGHT,and DIRECTOR of WOW. At staff meetings everyone gets to spend time "bragging" about how they fulfilled those roles; exchanging ideas for even better service. A very simple change, with powerful influence as people take the roles seriously.

Donna has shown us that we can do anything we want and have a great time doing it.

You know what I was completely unprepared for when reading this book? The way my blood started--literally--vibrating! My brain was whirling around with this vision: what would it look like if I treated the people I work with in extraordinary ways? Who would I become? Who might the people around me become? What would have to happen in my life in order to, quite simply, start seeing the world through a different lens: the lens of treating someone like a star!? The book is fantastic--a totally unexpected surprise. It's SOOO easy to read, so well laid out, such a nice mix of professionalism and fun, such a great showcase for inspiring story after inspiring story. But really, now, folks: It is a really good thing the last four pages of the book are blank. WERE blank, I should say. I could NOT STOP flipping to the back and scribbling down one incredible idea after another for ways to treat my customers in a manner that would blow them away. A lot of the ideas I wrote down came straight out of the book. You don't have to work too hard--Donna's more than happy to lay it all out and make it easy for you. But, you know what? TONS of the ideas I wrote on those back pages came straight out of my own brain! I got inspired. The stories and suggestions turned out to be just a springboard for my own revelations about just how engaged and creative and attuned I am actually capable of being with my clients! I read the book yesterday, in one fell swoop! I filled up those four blank back pages as I went. And today--no kidding--I have spend the entire day creating amazing emails, making amazing phone calls, and concocting plans for a whole new way of thinking about honoring those people who are good enough to cast their lot with me! Take a deep breath, pick up this book, and get ready to amaze YOURSELF! I am a total and utter "Celebrity Experience" convert!

If you are in any sort of service-related field, do yourself a favor and buy this book! As the manager of a service department I know I will be using the tools I learned in The Celebrity Experience for years to come. I was not a third of the way through when I realized I already wanted to read the book again. The first read to just enjoy it and let the concepts and stories wash over me. The second read to really drill down and discover how I could use it as a guide to help my department provide better service and to help me celebrate my own staff. It showed me how to lay out the red carpet in both directions. And it didn't hurt that the book was so entertaining. After just finishing three dry, snooze-inducing business books, The Celebrity Experience was a refreshing joy to read. I laughed, I cried, I learned something. Bravo Donna Cutting!

I read this book in one sitting. It's terrific. If you think you're giving your customers the best customer service - think again. There is always room for improvement as I've realized reading this book. With an extensive customer service background, I quite often patted myself on the back for the service I give my clients - yet I picked up so many wonderful new ideas from reading this book. It's chock full of great, real life stories, and examples and ideas on how to make your clients feel like the stars that they are.

Donna is on the "cutting" edge of the seismic shift that needs to happen in our thinking in order for customer service to live up to its name. Donna's book, The Celebrity Experience, is an invitation to each of us, no matter what our role, to ramp up our customers' experience. She's a master storyteller with dynamic examples ranging from Gaylord's Opryland Hotel Celebrity Services Team to the employee from Tabitha Health Care Services who made a patient's trolley wish come true. From the very first chapter Donna had me asking how we could create a celebrity experience for every person we serve. If you only read one business book this entire year - this is the one to read! If you read it and apply the concepts to your own business, the ideas in this book will help you keep your customers coming back for life.

I ! I loved this book! This was the first cookbook that I ever enjoyed just reading. First of all,you open it up and excitedly go through it,looking at all the stars and seeing what particular recipe that they have contributed. Then you think, hmmmm, why did they use that recipe? Then its fun analizing why that celibrity chose that paticular recipe. Oh and who knew that Mr.Rogers was a vegetarian? The recipes are fatastic! Not your regular vegetarian boring stuff. I believe that is because not just celebrity vegetarians contributed, but those with varied eating habits, participated. That makes for a very unique and versitile cookbook. Ms.Ruppen should be commended for using recipes from both vegetarians and non-vegetarian. Vegetarian dishes are not just for vegetarians anymore. This is obviously proven with the many recipes that were sent in by non-vegetarian celebraties.I must also say Thank You!Thank You! Ms. Ruppen for researching your recipes so thoroughly, by including additional low or no fat ways to make each recipe. Now I can eat vegetarian and TOTALLY healthy! This is such a great book,I could write on and on., Incudedwith pictures of your favorite celebrities their personal recipes, are some great little antidotes on each page. They were informative and interesting reading. This was the most unboring cookbook I ever read.1

I have been a vegetarian for all of my life. My name is Britain. I think my Aunt is a genius. Sincerely, Britain

'This book about the Marchesa Casati (1881-1957) is called "The Definitive Edition" about a lady of extravagant leisures. It is an excellent book reviving the roaring twenties in Europe and gives you a fairly good insight of the lifestyle of the truly rich and famous through to the 1940s. Part of this set was the Marchesa Casati, who is a source of inspiration to this very day for fashion designers, artists and wealthy heirs. So if you squander your vast inheritance, at least do it in style!' (review from Elegant Lifestyle)

This book is a win-win situation. If you want to get into any facet of entertaining, then the informative and generous writings that Denise offers in her book will be of intense value to you. However, if you're a person that is looking for a book that's eyecatching and interesting for your coffeetable or personal library, then this is the one! Most books like this only cover one person, and if you're a fan, that's great, but this one covers over 100 people that are dead-ringers! That alone will keep people talking for hours! I know- I see it happen again and again. Talk about fun. That makes this an investment book. I covered mine in a clear cover to keep it from getting tattered from all the handling! Thanks, Denise Vlasis! Bravo!

Gillian Zoe Segal's book, New York Characters, is outstanding- the best photography book I've ever seen/read! The photographs featuring prominent New Yorkers are incredible. Each one captures the true essence of the "character" and truly comes to life on the page. The characters are all photographed in their natural environment, and as Segal points out and demonstrates in her book it is New York's characters that make "it the greatest city in the world". In addition to her photographic genius, Segal writes beautifully. The vignettes's about the characters are intersting, informative, humorous, and touching. No coffee table should be without a copy of New York Characters. It makes the perfect holiday gift for New Yorkers as well as out-of-towners because everyone loves or has an interest in New York, right? Furthermore, all of the proceeds of the book sales are going to the September 11th fund. So what could be more gratifying than supporting the city's recovery effort by buying this wonderful book for yourself, for your friends, for your family...? I feel confident in saying that anyone who picks up New York Characters will enjoy it immensely. What will Segal do next? I can't wait....

If you admire great photography and exquisite prose and feel the slightest attachment (or wish you did) to New York, then Gillian Segal's book is for you. I moved from New York a little over ten years ago and was determined to keep in touch with the city I love. However, it was only a matter of time before I lost touch with what really made New York special: the people's unique personalities. Gillian's book has allowed me to reestablish contact with the city that I still like to call home. Now, when my colleagues in Providence ask me what to do in New York, I no longer provide them with a mundane and outdated list of restaurants and sites. Instead, I refer them to Mrs. Segal's book. I inform them that in its pages is where they can find the real New York. Everything from great food, The Egg Cake Lady, to a wonderful opera on 57th street, performed by Opera Man, to a great jogging partner, the Mayor of the Reservoir (he is featured on the cover) can be found in "New York Characters".

As a voracious reader of books on stars, I was wonderfully entertained by Edwin Howard's new book, Seeing Stars. The book is written in an easy reading style, full of interesting facts and insights about some of the movie stars who have dominated the screen for the past 50 years. What is most amazing is how Mr. Howard became friends with many of the stars that he covered. This is obviously a testament to his own personality and his ability to connect with stars as people and not just as Hollywood names. This is a must read for anyone who wants an inside glimpse of celebrities as diverse as Cary Grant, Elvis Presley, Jack Nicholson, Ingrid Bergman or John Wayne. I even got several copies to give as gifts to friends who love the movies!

Edwin Howard's "Seeing Stars" enables one to pick a favorite star celebrity and to discover what it's really like to have a one-on-one conversation with them. From the silent stars (Lillian Gish) to Martin Sheen (West Wing) and all the others in between, Edwin gets us up close to the star.

For example, I learned how John Grisham deals with unexpected celebrity; John Wayne's political views and his thoughts on ballet (yes, ballet!) Howard doesn't mince words, he tells of his interviews with the stars in a "what you see is what you get" kind of manner. He has learned how to get close to famous people and earn their trust but as veteran newspaperman his writing rings true.

Seeing Stars - A Delicious Celebration of a Celebrity Seeker

Review Date: 2003-02-15
Edwin Howard's Seeing Stars is a celebration of a professional celebrity seeker, beautifully written with passionate insight for his abundance of subject matter - such as calling "John Wayne the Grand Canyon of movie stars" and Lucille Ball "the Niagara Falls." Throughout the book, Howard has seasoned his original interviews of some of Hollywood's most famous stars with personal observations and evaluations of their films and careers. This reader learned so much and was inspired to want to see again films in which the stars appeared. This reader-friendly book, with candid photographs of many of the stars, is a must for the cinema loving public as well as for theater/cinema libraries - and the personal book shelves of students studying these disciplines.

Seeing Stars' introduction is a perfect tune-up for what is to come - by first defining what an interview actually is: "biography in a hurry"... and very informative about where the word interview comes from: "to see each other" from old French. The book's opening chapter on Mae West, who invited the author up to her apartment, whets the appetite to read on. In subsequent chapters, one is introduced to sharp, witty and appropriately catchy chaper titles - salt and peppering the interviews to follow. With Howard's flare for words, his interviews are absolutely delicious! The chapter on Patricia Neal will bring a tear to the eye. Wait until you read the final words Howard writes about Elvis Presley!

Let's hope Edwin Howard doesn't stop seeing more stars in the future. This 260-page book seeks a celebratory sequel.

Why are so many of the best American writers Southerners? Edwin Howard is a Southerner and a brilliant novelist and his gifts show through also in the intimacy and warmth of these extended interviews with his fellow Southerners William Faulkner, John Grisham, Patricia Neal, Dixie Carter and Joanne Woodward. In spite of the catchy sub-title, don't mistake Howard for your usual "celebrity seeker". He is a serious writer, and even his short pieces are remarkable for their depth and penetration. And for their frankness and raw humour, because the death of many of his subjects has allowed Howard to print things they said that couldn't be printed in their lifetime (at least not in his Memphis paper). Mae West is even earthier and John Wayne tougher than you imagined - though her main interest is a healthy diet and he loves ballet and considers himself a liberal. Others like Sophia Loren, Ingrid Bergman and Cary Grant are as we know them but more so. I skipped some of the interviews at first because they were with actors who didn't interest me (I won't mention names - they may be your favorites) but when I finally read them I found that in Howard's hands they had become interesting. My personal favourite, though, is Lucille Ball; I particularly like her answer to Howard's question, "You don't mind being considered a legend, then?" This is a wonderful book; read it and find out what she says.

I like the way this book gives background information on celebrities. I can always use some useful facts about celebrities when I write to them. I use the celebrity birthday list a lot. It is a good way to break the ice in writing to a celebrity. I usually write to all the celebrities that have the same birthday as me. Other times I just write to the celebrity wishing them a happy birthday. I have had good success this way. Some of the celebrities that have replied to me are Mohammed Ali, Bill Gates, Bill Clinton and Ron Howard.

I received my copy of the January issue of Autograph Collector Magazine and read the review on "The Address Directory & Autograph Collector's Guide" (which I own and use a lot). It received rave reviews as "refreshing, rich in data and this book will keep autograph collectors busy for a long time." Since I have used this book I have been getting better than average responses.

I live in a small town in North Dakota and writing to celebrities is the only way I have to contact them. I have used the "The Celebrity Address Directory" and I am getting fantastic results. I had a couple of return to sender and used the satisfaction guarantee form in the back of the book. I got answers to my requests right away. I contacted the publisher by e-mail and the publisher had the new addresses within minutes! I will stay with this book forever, it is the only one I will ever need.

When I received my copy of this book I was surprised. It has many top name celebrities and a lot more! I like the lists he has in this book - celebrity birthdays, celebrity charities, celebrity hobbies, top paid entertainers, Rock' Roll Hall of Famers, Nobel Prize winners, places to get in person autographs and via venues -places to send a request where a celebrity is performing. I haven't seen these features in any other celebrity book. Got to go, I have letters to write.

My wife wanted this book to find out Marilyn Monroe's makeup secrets. I'm not complaining.

The truth is in the details

Devon Cass takes celebrity impersonators (who run the gamut from looking somewhat like the celeb to being virtually identical) and shows how they create the look. I was surprised by the detail that goes into every makeup job; sometimes it's not the gross features but the little things -- tiny birthmarks, dimples, the line of the lower lip -- that bring out the similarity.

I found it useful (I've worked as a Fergie lookalike in the past) and also entertaining. Highly recommended

Incredible transformations, a bit slim on the details

This book is an incredible photographic documentation of the power of makeup, etc; and you will understand how much you can transform yourself when you see Devon Cass turn himself into Cher. Many of the transformations are just incredible--in particular my jaw dropped at Cher, the guy who did Marilyn, and the woman who did Mariah Carey. And there is lots of information on how to get there, with fascinating half-face makeup shots, advice on wardrobe, and even famous lines of the stars to give you something to say once you've gotten there. I dare say, though, that this book is, for most people, going to be something to gawk at rather than a guide to a halloween costume. Too often necessary details are missing--you are told what to get, then sometimes it is kind of "then go ahead and put it on the way Cher does"....not all that helpful all the time. But still, there's tons here, and lots of people will enjoy this book--I'd heartily recommend it for all you crossdressers out there; buy two and give one to a friend!

This book is an amazing compendium of information and inspiration. The photos are remarkable, as are the effects of the makeovers on every model! Devon Cass REALLY knows his stuff, and he shows and demonstrates it ALL in this book! He's elevated celebrity impersonations into an artform, and chronicled every single step for the reader. Buy this book and be AMAZED at the transformative powers of makeup, clothes, hair, etc. to create indelible images.
