Product arrived very fast! It's in great condition, even though it was a library book. It was from Beverly Hills Public Library...so I can't help but wonder whose hands it's been in...

There are so many recipes that are really good! And such a wide variety of stars. A must for any cookbook collector.

My father first bought this book just after it was first released in 1980 shortly after the death of John Lennon (his is the last chapter). Several years later, I pulled the silver and black hardback down from the book shelf and adopted it as my own.

An amazingly diverse and insightful piece of work, this book introduced me to many people who, to this day continue to intrigue and inspire me. Among those include Rudolph Valentino, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Sal Mineo, Brian Epstein, Cass Elliott, Janis Joplin, Freddie Prize, and, of course, the aforementioned John Lennon, just to name a few.

A truly priceless piece of work, far superior to any attempted reissue since.

I"m impressed with Brian Howell's documentary work featuring the culture of celebrity impersonators. In addition to wonderful photographs, the text reveals behind the scenes information that entertains and educates. Well done.

excellent book for allpurpos

This really is one of the best academic books on fandom, if not the best. Hills has a remarkable ability to read in, through, and around established theory, and yet also has a nice knack of forcing theory to account for grounded realities. Each chapter boldly approaches fandom from the standpoint of an existing binary in fan studies, and as a result, the book shatters through multiple impasses (and sillinesses) in established work to date.

Fan studies is such a maligned sub-discipline in a field (that of cultural and media studies) that all too often prefers mea-culpa lashing of the media body, and that prefers disgust with or pity of the fan to any actual attempt to understand him/her. But the strength of a book like this defies critics of the sub-discipline. Indeed, I don't think it's too much to say that fan studies really comes into its own with this book. Hills has opened up ground for future work, through careful reading of past work and a sense of what is tragically missing.

As such, I would highly recommend this. If you are looking for empirical work, this is not your book (although Hills reads others' empirical work well), but if you want a macro picture of how all that work fits together, this is it.

I've seen innumerable celebrity cookbooks, but this is one of the rare good ones - and it is outstanding. Celebrities actually wrote (in their own handwriting) why their recipes are so special - which, indeed, they are. Some are elaborate, some gourmet, and some down home. They range from caviar to Steve Speilberg's matzo brei, which he says he loves to fix for breakfast to serve family, friends, and staff. I never tire of this book ... gorgeous photos, warmly written, sensational recipes, fun to read, AND it supports a worthy cause. Don't miss this one!
