As a long time student of the photographic arts, I can truly appreciate the works of Helmut Newton. Intimate and perhaps slightly naughty, Newtons photographs have an exceptional power to them. Great book and a truly wonderful collection of work!!

Mr. Spamm writes crazy letters to "sane" celebrities and hilarity ensues. Really, it does.

In this highly entertaining book, Mr. Spamm sends fan letters to a variety of celebrities and eagerly awaits their responses. Many times, Mr. Spamm's letters themselves are the highlight; often, the response is priceless. For example, Jimmy Carter sends a picture of himself with his late brother that was oddly touching. It's also surprising how many has-been celebrities still respond as though they're "someone". Overall, a winner!

This is a fascinating series of interviews that appeared in "The Realist" with individuals that inflenced the American scene starting in the 1950s. One senses that neither Paul Krassner nor those being interviwed pulled any punches thereby allowing the reader to enter the mind set of the interviewees.

This book is the best book ever written! God I love this book I have read it oh I dont know like at least 100 times I love it that much not much of a science fiction fan but this book tells a story with out little green aliens everywhere it has people with life living within the pages I just bought the 2 others in the series I cant wait great book MUST READ and this means you!

Despite the title I found the substance compelling. The stories of these women and the men they served was new to me -- a definite for women's studies and a good read. It was hard to put down.

The photographs of the young Mrs. Kennedy are absolutely spectacular. Congratulations Jacques!

I loved this book so much. Jerry Vale is truly one of the most gifted singers I have ever heard. What he sings come straight from the heart as did this beautifully written book. What is wonderful about Mr. Vale is his sincerity and honesty. I loved this book and would recommend it not only to his fans but to anyone who wants to read a book about a nice man, a nice family and a wonderful career.

The story is true. Jerry contributed to it and approved every word. Dozens of interviews were conducted. The author traveled with Jerry on the road and toured with him at book signings. At concerts fans bought while Jerry signed books. They love him. His story is a wondrous adventure into the backstage area of show business and stars Sinatra, DiMaggio, Mantle, Durante, Goulet, Dean Martin, Jayne Mansfield and others. There are also numerous excellently reproduced color portraits, which along with the black and white portraits, are reproduced in a wonderful satin finish. There are many portraits from the 40's and 50's including his most famous portrait of Winston Churchill and powerful portraits such as the back of Pablo Casals playing the cello in an austerely but masterfully lit setting.

This book is a genuinely beautiful work of art. It will bring joy to the young and old at heart and will prove to be one of those treasures which one is proud to cherish for generations.

Lets start with the essentials then, firstly the material is good stong yet lightweight, the design is of a good quality, not iron on tranfers or any of that rubbish, and the style!!!! Very entertaining - also good reference as to whether or not certain names are deceased or not plus dates. As a lover of old black and white movies, I can satisfy my curiousity as to status of actors.

This book really surprised me. A browse through Remains to be Seen in California amounts to much more than picking over the bones of dead actors and historical figures. Nothing so dry as that. On the contrary, there's a great deal of fresh meat to the short biographical write-ups here, and it's well seasoned with humor, irony and opinionated insight. I'd initially thought to give the book away as a gift to my mother in law, but got carried away digging through the various entries, laughing at some, shaking my head in disagreement at others, that I decided to keep it for myself. Not only is the copy now too dog-eared to serve as a gift, but it's too darn funny for my straight-laced in-law. My one complaint is that mixed in with profiles on Jimi Hendrix, Jack London, John Muir, Rodney Dangerfield, etc., are an awful lot of "bios" on really old people that I've never heard of. But of course, my ignorance may be someone else's erudition. Although I'm not one of those people who's dying to visit cemeteries, the authors not only make it look easy, by giving lots of specifics on hours, addresses, tours, etc., but they even manage to make it look fun by listing lunch places near the tour spots. I never thought I'd dig a cemetery book, but this one really rattled my bones.
