Often in our search for meaning and happiness in our lives we turn to the latest media-visible celebrity with the quickest fix to offer. This little book is a veritable compendium of well-chosen quotes from people, who in most cases, history has judged worthy of attention. The quality of the quotes chosen for inclusion is testament to the quality of the author/compiler. This little book is a real joy and treasure. The loving work and research that went into its creation is readily apparent. It's a book I will not be embarrassed to share with friends and/or strangers. The real marvel is that the truths collected here will never become outdated so long as human nature stays what it is, and has been. Highly recommended for anyone interested in contemplating the TRUE meaning of that much misunderstood word--HAPPINESS.

The Little Book of Happiness is a way to "catch our breath" and remind ourselves that happiness is not all that elusive. The author has done a fantastic job in compiling these quotes to span sources throughout history.
I will certainly refer back often to this book for inspiration, comfort and most of all - little moments of happiness!

Being an Insider myself, I've seen guides and addresses sold for years. Most of which are a joke. But not this one. E.J. Fleming never fails. He's one of the most prolific and talented writers of our time and this book is a must have for movie and star buffs! Thank you - thank you!

This is a terrific book to use to navigate the Hollywood area for anyone interested in the movies. We drive up and down streets with my husband calling out names and events and loved it. We are locals in the San Fernando Valley and for the LA person comenting that changes have occurred in the area and streets over the years, "duh!." Some of the addresses are 100 years old but in the odd case that a street is not there or has been moved, as far as we could tell there was a note included. We didn't check everything, but we didn't have any problem using the lists. THis is a great resource for movies and LA history and great fun for vacations. It's heavy though!

Incredible, just incredible!

I envision E.J. Fleming huddled over a pc reviewing census information and entering data in a database and cross checking it against his formidable stacks of notebooks. E.J. is tired, tired, tired. He has worked day and night so I don't have to. Stop, I'm just kidding but this is an incredible collection of information. I am in total awe re: how someone could collect so much data, collate it, and present it in an easily accessible manner.
This directory is exactly what is implied. It is an enormous collection of addresses relating to celebrity homes, film locations, historical sites.......and here's the kicker.....the locations of scandals and crimes. That having been said, this is not a rolling narrative that relates a lot of juicy stories and histories. It presents the facts and it is up to the user to draw in the lines and reach his/her own conclusions.
So why did I drop $75 for this book. I was weary doing this type of research with only lukewarm results and a relatively miniscule database. This book has everything and I can let my fingers do the walking.
Now here is my warning. I reiterate don't buy this if you are expecting a lot of lurid stories as there really aren't any per se. However, buy this book if you want to know things like all the places Humphrey Bogart resided in LA, who cohabitated with Ramon Novarro, or where Laurel and Hardy filmed a lot of their classic shorts. Buy this book if you have a curious mind and the information provided has you asking other questions.
This is an impressive collection of information.

I am a tour guide in Hollywood - one of the very few that actually research our tours. I thought I knew a lot about Hollywood, but this book made my jaw hit the floor.

Mr. Fleming has published the BIBLE for Celebrity addresses. The most comprehensive book on stars homes I have ever poured through. I've even turned a few of my colleagues on to the book, who their own copies immediately.

You've made my job easier Mr. Fleming, and you have published a riveting and important document.

But I swear, if you honestly are interested in becoming famous, or at least finding out what angle is best going to get you there-- like if you should try for reality TV (and HOW to do all that) or perhaps journalism (Katie Couric!!) or just getting famous by sleeping in an airport or becomig a famous bounty hunter, this is the guide for you.

What Galen Rowell does for mountains, Patrick Demarchelier does for living subects. He captures the character, the inner self, the most basic essence of a subject and capture it on black and white film. It's as if he breaths on his photographs and they come to life. He does it for Hillary Clinton, he does it for giraffes--all mesmerizing to look at. I wish he could photograph everyone in the world--it would be a so much more interesting place if all the static, cliche portraits were replaced with his vivid work. The book includes color and magazine shoots, too--which prove the range of his talent. Who else could capture a different facet of the exhaustively photographed Linda Evangelista in every shot? Or make the form, the line of a model reclining on a whitewashed wall as interesting as the model's beauty? A really great book of pictures whose character, form, lines will entrance any viewer. This book -- or should I say Demarchelier's work--deserves more than five stars. How about ten?

What else can I say? It's lightweight material (but you knew that), but this book documents a bygone era in a unique and unforgettable way. There are many images in the book that alone are worth the purchase price. In particular I like the photo of all of the Eisenhower brothers caught in the midst of cracking up over a good joke.

Philippe Halsman's Jump Book is not just for people who love photography. Oh no - no matter who you are, what your age, sex or nationality is, you will love this book. It has everything, from actors to politicians to artists and even royalty - up in the air!

Each person has his own way of jumping. One hides her legs in her skirt, the other bends them and yet a third person will kick them as high as possible. I think each person's jump tells us a little bit about who he or she is, really. Each jump also has its own setting -some are indoors and some are outdoors, each person picking the place they want to be photographed at.

The book is divided into sections, which makes it easy to compare people's jumps with their peers'.

This is for the open-minded, as it is not your regular "straight" photography. If you're interested in more convetional pictures, I recommend Halsman's Portrait book, which is also beautiful.

Some of us developed our love of photography from looking at the pictures in LIFE magazine. We probably didn't realize it at the time but the great Philippe Halsman influenced us more than any other photographer as he had more LIFE covers than any other artist. Many of his photographs are part of the American unconscious-- the beautifully cropped portrait of John Kennedy, Marily Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor et al. Mr. Halsman, while on photo assignments, came up with the most clever idea of asking his subjects to jump for him. This beautiful book containing photographs of 191 jumps is the result.

This obviously persuasive photographer got statesmen, politicians, artists, actors, writers, scientists, theologians, comedians-- apparently just about everyone he asked-- to jump although some invitees said "no." They included Van Cliburn, Ed Murrow, Dag Hammarskjold, Herbert Hoover and most certainly Eleanor Roosevelt. (Tallulah Bankhead kept one foot on the ground.) I hadn't seen this book in several years. The two photographs I remembered with those of Salvador Dali and Marilyn Monroe. Other favorite shots are of Kitty Carlisle and Moss Hart, Shirley Temple, Joanne Woodward, Marcia Davenport, Adlai Stevenson, Grace Kelly and Judge Learned Hand as they jump.

Mr. Halsman wrote a very thought-provoking introduction to this collection in which he gives his theories about "jumpology." He certainly writes with a great deal of insight as well as humor. Dame Edith Sitwell "could. . . barely walk. . . I did not ask her to jump because it was obvious that the only thing Dame Edith could do well was to sit well." Some of his statements ring true. I'm not ready to jump on some of the others. Mr. Halsman opines that usually we, to quote T. S. Eliot, put on a face to meet the faces," and hide our feelings under our facial masks. When we jump, however, our faces show our true selves. That makes perfectly good sense. Case in point: Richard Nixon still looks like a caricature of himself when he is jumping. The artists also has theories about why men jump with their arms pointed toward the ceiling-- one arm versus both arms-- the significance of crossing the arms, keeping the arms to one's side, the differences in what the same motions mean when applied to men and women, the significance of removing one's shoes, the position of the legs, etc. In short, a fascinating essay. (Of all the men who jumped for Mr. Halsman, the only male to remove his shoes, showing dapper, designer socks as we would expect, while keeping his double-breasted suit buttoned, was the Duke of Windsor. I wonder what all that means.)

If you like photography or amateur psychology or just want to smile after a hard day at work, you should relax with this book.

This is the perfect coffee table book (If you still have a coffee table). It has great pictures of famous people jumping.

I ran accross this book back in the late 80's can I gave it to a friend. She loved it and I have been looking for a copy ever since for myself. I finally found it at Amazon.

The picture of Nixon jumping is priceless. He looks happy! This is my second favorite picture Nixon (Nixon and Elvis is #1). These are unique pictures taken by a master photographer -- Priceless.

This is the best purchase I have made in the past year. In spite of what seems like a hefty price tag, it is worth every penny.
Scott Wilson, through a large number of reputable contributors, has assembled a comprehensive list of the burial places of virtually every celebrity/historical figure that I can think of. In addition to providing burial locations, Mr. Wilson also provides information regarding the deceased person's claim to fame, cause of death, and anecdotal stories pertaining to his individual subject, as well as dates of birth and death.
While the book claims to provide over 7,000 "resting places", in actuality far more grave locations are provided as in many cases Mr. Wilson provides locations for prominent families on the basis of a prominent family member's name or a historial event such as Titanic victims.
In the four months since I have had this book, I have only come up with two or three people who are not listed in this book.
This book is essential to anyone who likes to visit cemeteries or as they say 'get within six feet of your favorite dead celeb'.

This is truly an amazing work.

The depth of this text is outstanding, and is highly recommended for anyone with a passion for business, political, sports, entertainment, military or journalistic history....and everything in between.

This work is one of the best bargains you will ever find. It will never be outdated, and will continue to be one of the greatest resources on this topic. All this for just over a penny a person!

Before I heard of this book, I came into contact with its author through the website "Find a Grave." For 20 years, I had been searching fruitlessly for the gravesite of prohibition gangster Legs Diamond. My interest was one of historical curiosity (I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit that Diamond had been a boyhood hero of mine), and I meant no disrespect to anyone, living or dead, but it was impossible to locate this gravesite. I couldn't quite understand the reticence of cemetery personnel to divulge its location, considering that Diamond has been dead for over 70 years, but such was the case. No printed guide I consulted was helpful (the most I learned was the name and borough of the cemetery he was buried in and the fact that the gravesite was unmarked). I contacted the cemetery office, I talked to gravediggers in the cemetery, and was ready to give up completely when, in desperation and without any expectation of success, I went onto a "Find a Grave" forum and spelled out the frustrating experience I had been through. Mr. Wilson responded and within a day's time, using Mr. Wilson's information and contemporary photos of Diamond's funeral, I was able to locate the exact spot of his final "Resting Place." For those with an interest in this subject, Mr. Wilson's book is indispensable. His biographical descriptions are concise and accurate and one would be hard put to think of anyone deceased, famous or infamous, who is not included in this book. Actors, writers, criminals, politicians, athletes, politicians, scientists, artists- they're all here. The price may be steep, but, speaking for myself, it was well worth the investment.

Jean Sherman Chatzky has done an awesome job of combining the glamor of high finance with valuable lessons that hit down home. This book interviews about two dozen of the Rich and Famous -- athletes like Dennis Rodman and Mike Ditka, celebrities like Matt Lauer and Ivana Trump and Helen Gurley Brown, Wall Street wizzes like Charles Schwab and Bear Stearns' Ace Greenberg -- and provides an in-depth look at their investments and financial strategies. The book seems to uncover humorous stories from most, and interesting anecdotes from all. The book has a wonderful collection of stars from all arenas; it's the first book I've seen with so much dirt on celebrity money.

Each chapter provides valuable advice that you can apply to your own finances, even if your numbers pale by comparison. I was spellbound by this book, which is basically a fun-to-read how-to guide.

A unique book covering a universal favorite: fame and fortune.

Finding out how people as diverse as Matt Lauer, Charles Schwab, and Ivana Trump build their nest eggs is illuminating -- and fun. And their experiences make for an easy-reading guide to investing. Jean's section on "rebounders" like Dennis Rodman, who lost a bundle and came back far wiser for it, will be valuable for anyone trying to climb out of debt.

I thought that Serge Norman was a photographer, he is a hair dresser though. I actually think thats much nicer because the photos are a collection from many different eyes. Well worth the price! Photos range from black and white to color and have many famous celebs in photos I hadn't seen before, and then some I had. The quality as well is great. What a cool book! Who knew all these celebrities could also draw! I bought 2 copies. One for myself and one as a gift for Christmas.

Wonderful book

This is a beautiful book to keep and to give. The drawings are very interesting and beautiful, some of them are very basic sketches, some are complex artistic works, but all of them have one thing in common: they were drawn with lots of love. And that shows. Thank you for this book Ms Leacock!

A beautiful book to keep forever.

A very beautifully well put together book. Not only are the drawings interesting, the text that goes along with them as Ms. Leacock remembers the acquiring of the flowers will make you laugh and cry. The wide range of celebrities drawings of flowers is quite amazing (authors, directors, actors, etc.). That Ms. Leacock would share these very personal rememberances make it quite touching. Makes a wonderful gift for anyone and you will want to display it on your coffee table forever. The fact that a large percentage of the proceeds is going to AIDS charities is even more special.
