I like this show and like the mech drawings and stuff I wish they would make a second season!

I used to watch the Battletech cartoon with out knowing Battletech.Now 6 pc games ,157 cards,dozen minitures,and 30 books later I can enjoy the source book.It is all in color(few pages in the back arn't)wich is a major plus. It gives summaries of the characters with good art work from the show.After that it has info on the 'Mechs in the cartoon. The 'Mech art cool is computer stuff.(Makes the Clan 'Mechs in Tech:3050 sorry!) The best is a detailed episode guide of the series. Each page with (almost each)a sweet scene from that episode. Some times they "round"corners, like the discription of the Mauler is a little confuseing.Another is the lack of depth in the pre exsitihg BT characters. But then how can you cram every thing in Battltech in to a neat cartoon series?(it should be made known that the show also uses computer animation with traditional "hand" animation,makes the battles better then the CD-Rom games!)It gives info on the people and 'Mechs for the role playing game.The book gives vivid detail on the 1st Sumerset Strikers that pop up in the books sometimes.Recap:This source book has something for every one but most of all is very good(and colorful!)reading.A must for EVERY Battletech FAN!!

Each day has either a picture, quote or trivia from the fellowship of the ring. It has enough space to write homework, meetings or just day-to-day stuff. At the beginning it also has some nice inteview exerpts from the leading characters from the FOTR. Any true fan of LOTR could not do without

I was expecting another list book where someone gave their opinion about what he or she liked. I also expected to hate the list because I usually disagree with many critics on their top 10 or 20 lists. With an extra 30 to choose from I immediately snatched this book up and was ready to argue. I was pleasantly surprised.

There is no possible way anyone could agree with all 50 movies on the list, but there are some absolute gems that normaly get missed. In addition, the author adds his 10 favorite movies, making a clear distinction between favorite and best. That is not all.

There are also two other lists that Russo compares his list to. that is pretty brave in my opinion, because there are major differences and Russo sticks to his guns with his choices. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and will be sure to flip through it again and again as movies discussed are watched in the future. I might even check out his other book. If it's half as good as this one it will be well worth it.

Highly recommended, even for the occasional movie fan.

I agree with the first review on this page. This book is awesome. I love the fact that the movies are talked about in a conversational manner. It's like the author is talking to us, not down to us. I try to see as many movies as I can and this book has given me some great new movies to see that I never had before.

I hope they strart discussing it on the internet movie databse, because he talks about their top 250 list and points out some of the positives and the flaws. All in all a great book and one that I highly recommend to anyone who likes movies.

My son wants to make movies. This book seemed like a good place to begin for him to learn about establised directors and what made them unique.
I feel the book will not only be interesting, but inspirational.

This book is summarising all of the successfull and talented directors all around the world with best informations and photos. This is a journey to the amazing minds of movie inventors from past to present.

Lawrence Grobel is a brilliant entertainment interviewer. I have admired his work and by reading "Above the Line: Conversations about the movies", his work inspires me even more. As an entertainment writer, I've always wanted to conduct my interviews like Grobel's. One thing about Grobel's style is that he's smart, he's a man who does his research and although I have never met the man, his interviews are intelligent, informative and it leaves me complete. Where magazines tend to have the typical questions that are becoming so damn repetitive in many entertainment publications (and also to short), when you read this book you can tell by his conversations with people like Harrison Ford, Sharon Stone, Oliver Stone and more that they have a certain respect for this man. I can't wait to read the next book from Grobel (which I hope there is another one) and I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves reading entertainment interviews and to those who are interviewers as well. "Above the Line" is deserving of the five stars.

Lawrence Grobel has been writing the finest interviews with the world's famous for the past twenty years. Finally, a compilation of his best work has arrived. The thing that sets Grobel apart from most interviewers is research. He makes a consistent effort to never repeat the same old tired questions. This is apparent throughout this book. I highly recommend both the Robert Evans interview and the Oliver Stone, but they're all pretty great. Be sure to check out Grobel's work each month in Movieline and Palyboy magazines as well.

Hi yes I'm back, the 46 year old Rocky and Bullwinkle fan.

I have read this book and found it great fun. I went to see the movie no fewer than 5 TIMES!!!! Yes I love Moose and Squirrel that much!!!

I was 10 when the cartoon was on television here in England, and still have fond memories of it.

I loved the plot, Fearless Leader, Boris and Natasha breaking out of Cartoon Land and wreaking havoc through a hypnotic television to take over the planet.

HELP, WHO CAN STOP THEM!!!? Why Rocky and Bullwinkle of course, with the help of a beautiful FBI agent, Karen Sympathy (Piper Perabo). The stars: Rocket J Squirrel and Bullwinkle J Moose, together with Robert de Niro as Fearless Leader (very meanly played) Jason Alexander (a wicked Boris Badenov) and Rene Rousso (a mean Natasha Fatale).

All three played their cartoon counterparts really good and Rocky was his usual heroic self along with the world's coolest moose, Bullwinkle who proved to us never to underestimate his antlers.

Hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.

i have been a fan of the battle of the alamo since i saw walt disney's davy crockett. since then i have seen every movie about the seige. this book brought back fond memories. i even fulfilled a dream of 37 years of going to bracketville to see the movie sets of the alamo. unfortunately, i was caught in the flood, and couldn't see them. i would really enjoy writing to frank thompson, we could share very similar memories. again, thanks frank for a very enjoyable book.

Being a Texas History buff, I've seen most of the films made about the Alamo. So, I was pleseantly surprised when I found this book. Thompson covers just about every motion picture made about the 13 day seige. He even covers films that are not about the Alamo directly. In some cases, the crumbling adobe mission makes only a cameo appearance. There is plenty of enjoyable reading here, with facts, trivia and lore. In addition to the lively text are photos and even cartoons that deal with Alamo films. Even if the Alamo is not your cup of tea, students of film will find plenty to hold their interest. From the first movie made in 1911 to the IMAX production; PRICE OF FREEDOM.
What is really telling is how the image of the Texas Revolution, especially the Mexican perspective has changed over the years.
Compare the MARTYRS OF THE ALAMO done in 1915 to John Wayne's 1960 epic. Hopefully this new production by Disney will be a major improvement.

The author, W. Franklyn Moshier, offers the book as ..."a record of the screen work . . ." of Alice Faye. Believe me, it is so very much more than that! I have owned this book for only a year but it truly captures as well as enhances my memories of Sunday afternoon movie-watching as a young girl in the 1970's. The films were broadcast from Cincinnati, and the most vivid image remaining is that of "Lillian Russell", with the title character protrayed by the statuesque Alice Faye. The hours of programming set aside for televising movies from twenty and thirty years ealier was entitled, "When Movies Were Movies" and the films of Alice Faye were always among those broadcast. Therefore, I found it quite fitting for me that this book edition was published in 1974. Even more fitting is the reference on the inside front flap of the dust jacket to the thirties as being the time when movies were movies. This printed tribute to Alice Faye is so much more than a record of her screen work. The chronology provided is a true timeline of her talent, charm, and elegance. The hundreds of priceless photographs included are beyond fabulous. The carefully complete descriptions of the movies are filled with more than mere details and trivia. As each page is turned, one receives a revelation of production realities, thought-provoking reviews, and insight into the personableness of a true screen star legend. I was enthralled from cover to cover. I have always felt I was born about 40 years too late. Fortunately, this treasure has made it possible to feel like having a front-row seat and being backstage at the very same time!

I have owned this book (1st Edition) since 1974) and It is a swell rememberance of the delightful Alice. I know personally that Alice was delighted with it and considered it her "Oscar". The photos and movie reviews are stunning and also a testament to How to grow older with STYLE! We miss her terribly, as her talent , grace and charm is very rare to find! Though she has left us, her music and the movies linger..Perhaps a little girl of 10 will be watching "Stowaway"this weekend, and wonder"Who was the Lady singing?" Thats how the new fans start..Well, "ONE NEVER KNOWS, DOES ONE?"
