Many good recipes, now we know the secrets of the cafes. Sadly, some are no longer in business but fortunately live on in the book. The Snicker salad recipe is worth the price of the book.

Takes the Anxiety Out of Food and Eating

A beautiful little book that has an immediate calming effect. Packed with lots of useful and inspirational quotes, Calm Eating refocuses our attitudes to food and eating into more positive and healthy ones. I loved the fact that I could pick this book up and turn it to any page just to have a quick reminder that my relationship with food really can be a good one. The book is divided into various topics such as "true beauty", "natural eating" and "feeding your soul", and the quotes are wonderful - wise & compassionate with a dash of humour. This is a lovely little book and I highly recommend it to everyone.

As a nutritionist, I am delighted to find a book about eating that can be of enormous help to readers. I will definitely recommend Calm Eating to my patients who are striving to develop a balance between nutrition knowledge and what they want. Dr. Kausman motivates readers to make good choices and to enjoy food without guilt -- key ingredients in successful weight management. The book is of particular interest to those who have spent too many years dieting and too few years maintaining an optimal weight.

SIMPLY AMAZING!

As a HUGE fan, I must say that this is the best book about her I have ever read. The author - a longtime friend who toured with her - doesn't repeat what's been said in every book, interview, and article about Celine and her story. He really gives you a true behind the scenes account of what she's like as a person, and what she endures just to give her fans a good show. Each chapter is an in-depth look into a different city and different aspect of her job. He focuses on the details of everything, and the reader comes away with a greater appreciation and respect for her and all preformers. This book shows her as a real person who does a real job - behind the smokescreens. No fan should miss it; no person should miss it. This book is simply amazing.

A Really Great Book!

If you're a big Celine fan, you have to get your hands on this book. It really gives great details about Celine while she's touring has over a 100 pics. What she thinks, how she feels, and most of all who she is. I purchase this book through Avon catalogs when they sponsored her "Let's Talk About Love" tour. I'm really glad I did. The author Georges-Hâebert Germain is a wonderful author and good friends of Celine & Rene. He really lets you see through Celine's eyes while reading his writings. This book is a MUST HAVE!

Allen S. Rosenfeld's exhaustive 658-page Burley biography is like finding a rare diamond in a flea market;its length is justifiable to boxing fans fascinated by minute details of this Hall of Famer who never got a title shot.Burley, who fought from 1936-1951 retired with a record of 83-12-2 and Rosenfeld documents each of these fights, icluding an incredible seven-fight series with Holman Williams.Burley and Williams went 3-3-and their other fight ended when the two boxing geniuses were tossed out of the ring for a no-contest by a ref who just didn't appreciate greatness. But the late great Archie Moore did;he considered Eddie Booker(discussed in this book)and Burley, who dropped him four times in their 1944 fight to be the toughest guys he ever fought, including Rocky Marciano. In his preface,Rosenfeld cites the late Nat Fleischer, publisher of Ring and his 'Black Dynamite' series published in 1939 about black boxers from 1782-1938.Rosenfeld's Burley biography is a great addition to 'Black Dynamite'.

Allen Rosenfeld gives Charley Burley his crown

The crown that this tough, hard as nails fighter never garnered in the ring he can now wear symbolically through the efforts of the author who obviously spent years doing his homework and research. It is a must for any boxing buff's library. Rich in information and boxing lore.

This is our favorite picture book. It is so funny that my kids squeal with laughter when we read it, and call each other by the names of the characters. The only problem is that they know it completely by heart, so I have to put it away every so often for a while. A must for every home with preschoolers.

This book was my 20-month-old son's absolute favourite for a long, long time. The way the animals' dialogue was structured, made this book excellent for reading aloud to young children, beginning to grasp the concept of story-telling. In no time at all, my son was imitating Foxy Loxy's sly "Well, well, well". The flaps also allowed for curious young fingers to participate in story time. Highly recommended for children from 15-months onwards.

See of St. Mark: Chrisological Journey in time and space
Helpful Votes: 17 out of 18 total.
Review Date: 2002-08-30
Christ in Christian Tradition:
Since Adolph von Harnack's great work on History of the Dogma, there is no parallel for this ever-growing and most established reference in Chrisological history and development of Doctrine of the Person of Christ. This review covers only volume 2, part 4: The Church of Alexandria With Nubia and Ethiopia
Fr. Grillmeier reevaluates the alternative Orthodox, albeit mystical, Christology of the great Alexandrines: Alexander, Athanasius, and Cyril. With the help of the able academic Dr. Hainthaler expouds, not only the defense of Severus of Antioch, and Theodosius of Alexandria (in house arrest at Constantinopole) but also the arbitration of his colleague the colorful grammarian , scientific theologian , the genius Johannes Philoponus.

Whast is new in theology?
Aloys Grillmeier is revealing in this volume new sources made available by two great Coptologists; Prof. Tito Orlandi and Dr. Hans Quecke, who supported this great work in service of a better understanding of the schism that divided the One Holy Universal Apostolic Church. For the very first time a Christology of Shenute of Atripe, and his Disciple Besa the Archimandrite of the White Monastery are briefly reviewed for the first time.
The legendary story of faithful Nubia (in Coptic : Land of Gold) and holy Axum (Ethiopia) are treated at some elaboration, that was only attempted by the great Utah U. historian A. S. Atiya. Thus this work consecrated not only time but also space, as the Orientals are used to say.

Book Contents:
Part One: Alexandrian Christology in Greek:
Section I: Christology of the patriarchs;
1. Timothy Aerulus in rejection of Chalcedon
2. The struggle between Pro and Anti Chaledonians
3. Theodosius, Spiritual heir of Severus of Antioch
4. Two hierarchies: the Copts and Melkites
Section II: Christology of the Scholars:
1. The poet Nonnos of Panopolis
2. Two Alexegites: Ammonius and Olimpiodore
3. John Philoponus, Alexandrian Philosopher and Theologian
4. Cosmas Indicopleustes

Part Two: The Province of Coptic Christology:
1. A new source for Shenute: Founder of Coptic Christology
2. Besa: Archimandrite of the White Monastery
3. Christology in Coptic liturgical prayers

Part Three: The Cross of Christ over Nubia

Part Four: Christ in a new Messianic Kingdom of Ethiopia

Concluding Epilogue:
This great book, 430 pages of ecclesiastical agony and Christological ecstasy, work of great Christian Scholars who in search of truth discovered the treasures of Alexandrian and Coptic faith. John Meyendroff says in his Epilogue of Imperial Unity and Christian Divisions "Actually, it becomes increasingly embarrassing to use the term 'Monophysite' to designate these ancient Churches.' After less than a decade this work was translated into English to dogmatically support Fr. Meyendroff and all the blessed Dyophisite Chaledonians.

The Church of Alexandria & its Christology
Helpful Votes: 9 out of 12 total.
Review Date: 2004-10-15
Orthodox Christology Rediscovered:
Alexandria, the loving city of Christ, and the theological megalopolis has got at last some recognition for its toil in shaping the doctrinal faith for Eastern orthodoxy and Roman Catholicism. Athanasius and Cyril were, and still are the most prominent doctors of the Church and champions of orthodoxy. Liberated scholarship after Vatican II, with renewed contacts in ecumenical dialogues, and newly available sources, evaluated christologically renewed the case. Two great Roman Catholic Coptologist; Professors Tito Orlandi and Hans Quecke, SJ who advised the creation of this work, supported with the scholarship and devotion of Dr. T. Hainthaler, an established researcher and outstanding contributor.

Alexandrian Christology:
In part I, the post Chalcedonian christology of the Alexandrian patriarchs who defended the 'real' incarnation, since Athanasius' Treatise "De Incarnatione Verbi Dei" , and Cyril's hypostatic union, with polemic against Leo's suspected pseudo Nestorianism. Hainthaler exposes the christological struggle after Chalcedon and prescribed ways to unity in the Henoticon. Papa Theodosius confession of faith and Mar Severus of Antioch's christological defence and theological terminology are explained.

Coptic Lay Christology:
Unique in this book, is how influential was the role, as still is, and the devotion of lay Coptic scholars to the cause of faith, and how outspoken they were from Nonnus and christology of his countrymen, Cyrus, Pamprepius and the discourses of Aphrodito. Alexandrian exegetes, presbyter Ammonius and deacon Olympiodore stood on solid ground, their writings thus show.
Dr. Hainthaler chapter on John Philoponus, the innovative anti Aristotelian philosopher and genuine orthodox arbiter is the most elaborate so far on this outstanding dean of the academy, on creation ex nihilo, and defence of miaphysite orthodoxy of the hypostatic union. She refers to most of his works.

Province of Coptic Soteriology:
Shenute as founder of Coptic christology, other than Alexandrian soteriology, is well treated from Thebaid monasticism to Atripe' exhortation, a miror of Coptic faith, two decades prior to the schismatic council and Dioscorus call for support. Here, read an articulate treatment of specifics of seraphim, Nicene faith, and Shenute witness to the Jesus prayer. Gnostic infiltration of Origenistic apocryphal 'double creation' are wonderful, in addition to delightful small 'Large' histories of Nestorius by Shenute own report, with quotations. His second christological catechesis enthrone him as the real biblical Christocentric Coptic, in the eyes of hegemon Besa his kerygmatic successor.

Liturgical Christology:
Christological peculiarities of the three Coptic Anaphoras that survived liturgical ordination of the two Gabriel's II & V, is the zenith of the prevailing excellence of scholarship of this work. The anaphora of St. Gregory, the Capadocian theologos who addresses his prayers to Christ has a unique place in Coptic liturgy. His beloved fellow, St. Basil, is the author of the dominant Coptic liturgy, both christologically enlightening and their christology deserves a separate analytical treatment from Dr. G. Bebawi, Cambridge Parasitic scholar, in addition to the Coptic Synaxarion, and book of Psalmody.

New Messianic Kingdom:
Parts IV (130 pages) is devoted to the fourth century kingdom of Axum; the Christians' Church of Ethiopia that preceded Europe. The Cross over Nubia; in chapter III recounts the evangelization by the Copts of Nubia, in the sixth century, forced later into Islam, recalling the Western reluctance to stand against their Massacre in Darfur, a shame!

Theognostic appeal:
Read this unparalleled work of grillmeier eminent scholarship to learn how those sons of the Pharoes, ancestors to the remaining Coptic minority deserved to be specifically blessed by the Lord as "Egypt, my people" Isaia 19:25

Sinatra, the man, singer, actor

I have been listening to Frank Sinatra since he was first heard on the radio around 1939-1940, and also have been an admirer of his best movies, particularly his classic musicals and his later dramatic roles. There are a lot of books on the man--some good, some gossip-filled and sensational, but this book is the first I have found that does such a good job of blending all aspects of the phenomenon known as Frank Sinatra. In the introduction, Nollen gets right to the heart and soul of Sinatra, and focuses in on the loneliness that drove the content of his songs (though he didn't write them--he INTERPRETED them, par excellance) and his screen performances EQUALLY. Just about anything you'd want to know about Sinatra is here--his life, loves, issues he cared about, his charity work, and his astounding achievements as a peerless musician and actor. A great read, but hard to find. I don't think this book is getting any attention, and that is too bad! The introduction states the author worked on it for many years--and it shows! Great photos and posters, too!

Best Book on Frank YET!

I have always been a fan of FRANK SINATRA, both as a singer AND an actor, but SCOTT NOLLEN's book is the FIRST to link both together--the idea that FS was an ACTOR always--and that his singing was part of his talent as an ACTOR. A FASCINATING book that has got no promotion from its publisher--a REAL SHAME! This is a GREAT BOOK, and you should order it from AMAZON.COM ASAP! Nollen is knowledgeable about history, music and film, and he integrates it all together in a masterful narrative that with keep you reading on--once you start, you can't put it down!
